Brilliant day trip. Picked up from hotel promptly. Had one more stop en route. Matt our driver was really friendly and knowledgeable. Told us lots about local history. Arrived at Salem for the trolley bus tour. Matt made sure we knew the best place to sit. Tour took approximately 1 hour, really interesting with plenty of photos opportunities. We then went on to The Witch Museum, really good exhibit followed by a talk by a guide, again very knowledgeable. We then had nearly 2 hours for lunch ( plenty of choice) and shopping (could have spent much longer looking round the shops). We then travelled across town to The House of the Seven Gables, where we were shown around this historic house, again really interesting and passionate guide. Salem in September was beautiful, we were a little to early for the fall colours, and luckily too early for the busiest time of Halloween . Brilliant day. Thoroughly recommend it. Ooh and a list of local restaurant recommendations...... thanks Matt!

Itinerary
Relax as we take a 1 hour ride to Salem
Listen to expert guides as they take you around Salem explaining every detail of this towns very important history
The House of the Seven Gables, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, published in 1851. Set in mid-19th-century Salem, MA, is based on the legend of a curse pronounced on Hawthorne’s own family by a woman condemned to death during the infamous Salem witch trials.
The Salem Witch Museum, founded in 1972, offers two historical presentations. The first tells the tragic story of the 1692 witch trials, and takes place in a large auditorium with life-sized stage sets which are illuminated and dramatically-narrated to immerse visitors in the world of 17th century Salem. The second exhibit, Witches: Evolving Perceptions, examines the European witchcraft trials, the evolving image of the witch, and the larger issues of persecution and scapegoating in American history.
A harbor side shopping-village, filled with history and landmarks alike. This is the perfect place to explore what Salem has to offer: from local shops to waterfront dining on the Salem harbor to the Salem Maritime Site and the Friendship trading ship.
Now a landmark of the city of Salem, this statue pays tribute to the well-known TV sitcom ‘Bewitched’ and its filming of the seventh season here in Salem. This bronze beauty has quickly become a staple in our magical city. You can visit this monument during time. This will be our meeting point after your leisure time.
Take a look at this fantastic shopping center fill with hidden historical gems
After a bustling day of site-seeing, fine dining and light shopping, relax as your expert driver takes you back to your original pick-up location in the heart of downtown Boston.

Was a great day trip to Salem, tour guide was very knowledgeable about the area and very responsive to questions and giving recommendations. My only wish was to have more free time to explore in Salem!
We loved our tour guide Matt. He knew all the best places to go. The witch museum was not what I expected it was a underwhelming. The seven gables was great information but also underwhelming. Would recommend the Trolley that was everyone’s favorite besides the restaurant we ate at. It was called the Dire wolf Tavern. Great food.
This was a really cool tour. The guide had everything well planned so it was easy to just go along. We learned a lot about Salem.
We loved this trip, the driver was very knowledgeable and helpful. It was great to see all the sights in Salem. I will take another tour with New England Excursions next time I am in the Boston
Our tour was fantastic! History on the way there, History on the way back. Keep the group engaged in conversation. Had snacks and water. Gave tips on where to eat and allowed time for solo adventures. Would recommend this to anyone!
It was a great experience, guide was personable, informative and attentive. Wished we’d had more time to visit!
Great staf and very informative exhibits
Some discomfort with this tour, sitting on wooden benches for the trolley tour, standing around for guided tours, and a cramped bus ride.
I had a such wonderful time. Matthew was absolutely wonderful. Was a fantastic day. The tour was very complete and Matthew was very helpful and very good telling us the history.
This was a horrible experience. The tour guide texted me personally and asked to move the day, which we agreed to, but then one of our party couldn’t go anymore and we couldn’t get a refund. The tour guide was a random Boston person who had no knowledge or real interest in Salem. He rushed us through the day and skipped two things on the Viator itinerary. The VIATOR itinerary said 8-9 hours but our tour guide took us home after 5.5 hours. When I tried to tell him that he skipped things on the itinerary, he told me that we saw those things while on the trolley driving thru the town. The VIATOR itinerary had the trolley listed as a separate part from the other things he skipped. He must have had Saturday night plans he had to get to. Viator won’t refund us at all because he won’t approve the refund. We didn’t get to do any shopping and it was so rushed. If you want to go to Salem just do it on your own there is no reason to use VIATOR because Salem is pretty structured and has effective systems on its own and you won’t risk the chance of being rushed and losing money. A massive waste of $800 for 4 people!! Do not do it. ☹️😢
Was a seamless experience and our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. I had an amazing time!!
Great time in a comfortable ride down to Salem. Our guide was great kept everything organized and running smoothly, we had lots of time to explore the area and never felt rushed. Highly recommend.
Really fun day trip to Salem. The pick up and drive was easy and low stress. Very friendly guide and the tour was very well organized. Loved learning the history of the area. Highlights for me were the candy store and the House of the Seven Gables. Overall very fun day.
Excellent trip. Well organised, great tour guides at each venue and Matt was exceptional with the right balance of being friendly and very knowledgable. If you want to visit Salem, which I recommend then this is the trip for you. 3 individual tours plus plenty of time to wander round and have lunch.
Very informative guide. Enjoyed the variety of activities.
Booking this trip made visiting Salem so easy! The tours were booked and taken care of for us. The van arrived on time and was clean, safe, and roomy. Our guide was very knowledgeable, friendly, and a good driver. He anticipated our needs, had water and popcorn available, made recommendations for lunch and even messaged everyone a guide for Boston restaurants to try out. We would 100 percent recommend!
Rory was an excellent tour guide. The tour includes the witches museum which lol was not that exciting but just ok. The House of Seven Gables was really interesting. Plenty of time to wal the town. Highly recommend
Great tour guide, bonus insights and history of Boston on the way out. Our guide looked after us from the text message the night before about pick up until drop off. Amazing experience and trip!
Very fun and interesting! Great way to spend the day😊
Great time. Great guide very knowledgeable and kind.
Driver was very knowledgeable and humorous got to see plenty of sites even time for extras so interesting would recommend to everyone and would do it again probably when it's a bit cooler
It was a great day learning about the history of the Salem Witch Trial. We had a trolley tour and the tour guide on the trolley was excellent driving around the city and listening to the history of Salem. After the trolley we went to the Witch's Museum and learned interesting facts. If you have time, you need to visit the Witch's house too. We had approximately 2 hours for lunch and shopping. I wished we had 2 1/2 hours instead of 2 hours. Afterwards we proceeded to the oldest candy shop in the US. Then we headed to the House of the Seven Gables guided by a tour guide. This was very interesting, especially the hidden staircase in the house! The tour was excellent to learn about the history of the house. I would highly recommend this tour. We were back in Boston by 5:00pm.
Matthew was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining throughout the whole experience - always going the extra mile to ensure that we had an experience to remember.
Excellent experience. Lots of great history with tours .Our tour guide was funny and had a wealth of knowledge.
Great day trip from Boston! The tour and guides were very informative.
Fun filled day. After we arrived in Salem, we did a trolley tour of the city. Was a nice tour, but the mic was not working. We could not hear the guide. But we saw a lot. We did the Witches museum and the Seven Gables house. Had a good history lesson in each place. I would recommend this tour to any one who has never been to Salem. Our shuttle driver was wonderful also.
Matt was a great guide, very easy going and knowledgeable. The trip was full of things to do, but with a healthy mix of down time to explore on your own.
The driver did not pick us up at our hotel. He had the wrong Hyatt. He wouldn’t drop us off at the Hyatt Regency Harbor either. We didn’t know Boston. It was a stressful day. I had to pay for two Ubers to get to Salem then a random downtown Boston dropoff point to our hotel. I spent $90 I didn’t intend to and I never would have booked the tour if they weren’t going to pick up or drop off at our hotel. The Witch Museum was ok but kinda boring. The trolley was good and thorough. The last guided tour was of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s house and another. The guide Stephen was excellent. He was really into it.
Nice tour. Tour guide was great
It was a wonderful day. The guide/driver was awesome, knowledgable, and very kind. I highly recommend this tour!
Great day in Salem. There was lots to see and do. The trolley tour was a great start to the day, the witch museum was so so, & the house of 7 gables was great. Rory was an excellent driver & an informative guide! All of his recommendations for things to do & places to eat were 10/10 & so is he!
Worth the trip from Boston to Salem. We learned a lot and our guide left us a lot of time to explore.
Great experience. Picked up from our hotel. We didn't have to worry about anything but showing up. Got great recommendations for Salem and even for when we got back to Boston.
Seemed pricey at first, but was dropped off right by everything. Admission to various attractions. Everything timed perfectly and not rushed. Driver Matt was knowledgeable & friendly. Easy & would go again.
Very nice experience. Great guide.
Amazing trip with Matthew H who was very knowledgeable and kept everything light hearted. Fairly priced and the pacing of the day worked well. 100% would recommend any trip with Matthew H!
Prompt pick up at our hotel. Driver was friendly and informative. The tour was exactly what we wanted it to be and then some.
My husband and I really enjoyed this tour! The friendly owner/tour guide, Matt, effectively communicated with me by text to let me know when he would pick us up from our hotel. (We appreciated not having to rent a car or navigate public transportation.) The large passenger van was very comfortable with steps to easily allow passengers to get in and out of it. During our drive to Salem from Boston, Matt used a microphone system to provide historical information and friendly tidbits. The tour included all stops and entrance fees, and enough time was allocated for lunch and shopping. Matt was so nice to also text a document with his restaurant recommendations for different areas of Boston. Overall, this New England Excursions tour was the best way for us to travel to and experience Salem in a one day tour!
This tour had the history of Salem done in several entertaining presentations with a trolley tour, the witch museum and a tour of the house of seven gables. There was also sufficient free time to eat and shop.
Matt is a great tour guide I was picked up and dropped off at my hotel He did provide snacks and water He gives out good information about the tour and also recommends places to eat in Salem and Boston. That was a plus! Tours are very informative and it’s a must you learn about a lot of history in Salem Don’t hesitate so this tour you won’t regret it.
Be sure to go on this tour. Matt is amazing and full of great information. We had a lot of fun and had plenty of time for each stop. We had a great day!
My wife and I went on the last Salem Witch Trials tour offered by New England Excursions for 2025. Our driver and guide, Albert, did a fantastic job of adhering to the time schedule. We arrived at every scheduled stop on time and Albert gave us great background information to prepare for what we would see. He was very knowledgeable of the Salem area since he lives there. Albert made the entire trip enjoyable!!
Great day out exploring Salem. Matt our tour guide was friendly and knew all the interesting details about the with trials. Great options to eat and plenty of free time to shop and browse
Matthew was awesome - he was so knowledgeable about both Boston & Salem history for the drives to & from & just so kind (he even gave us a long list of recommendations in the Boston area for after we were done if we didn’t have any other plans already). The tour was also very organized; it was so much easier to do this than it would’ve been to try to plan everything on our own. The entire experience was most definitely worth it especially for the price and length of time and I can’t recommend it enough!
Our guide Matt was so knowledgeable and fun!! We had a great experience and totally stress-free since he was doing all the driving and navigating!
Enjoyed the scenic and historic town of Salem. The museums were engaging and fun. The break was enough time to eat and view iconic sights.
A well organised tour. Our guide, Rory gave a detailed history of Salem. The tour included skip the line admission to the Salem Witch Museum which was very atmospheric and interesting. We had free time to explore Salem on our own. Finally we visited the House of the Seven Gables for a guided tour by Stephen which was very interesting. The transport arrangements were very good
Hotel pick was convenient. Quick drive to Salem. Snacks and water available on the van. This day trip included 3 tours, a city tour, the Salem Witch Museum and the House of Seven Gables. However, there was also plenty of time to explore on our own!
Rory was very informative and a pleasure to deal with. The trip was smooth and it hit all the hot spots in Salem.
