Itinerary
All Food & Drink Tours start in the North End. The North End is Boston's oldest neighborhood, first settled in 1630. Today, this area is affectionately known as Little Italy, and is home to some of the City's very best restaurants, pizzerias and bakeries. From here, walk to historic Long Wharf to catch a scenic Ferry Ride across Boston Harbor!
The Charlestown Navy Yard is home to the USS Constitution, the only "floating site" on Boston's Freedom Trail. Hear the story of how this famous War Ship earned it's nickname - "Old Ironsides".
Bunker Hill is the site of the 1st major battle of the American Revolution. Dr. Joseph Warren died in the waning moments of this historic battle. Hear the story behind that famous military command - "Don't fire til you see the whites of their eyes!"
Hoist a beer (or wine, or soda!) under the very same roof as George Washington, Samuel Adams, Paul Revere and Dr. Joseph Warren - the taverns namesake. This historic tavern was built in 1780!
The Old State House is the oldest standing public building in the Eastern US. The circle of cobblestones in front of this historical landmark commemorate the 1st bloodshed of the American Revolution - the Boston Massacre.
After your return Ferry Ride from Charlestown, explore the Faneuil Hall / Quincy Market area. Faneuil Hall (aka the "Cradle of Liberty") has always been the central marketplace for Boston, and still is today. Hear the story of wealthy merchant, Peter Faneuil, who built this at his own expense in 1742.
The last tavern stop (includes one drink and snacks) will be at either the Green Dragon aka "Headquarters of the Revolution" or the Bell in Hand aka "America's Oldest Tavern".
This Fun & Unique walking tour finishes back in Boston's North End for cannoli from a famous North End bakery!

Big Al is very friendly, very knowledgable about the area and history, and we enjoyed the tour very much. We would highly recommend this tour with big Al
Big Al was a wonderful tour guide. Keep in mind they will order full beer and appetizers at each stop, so come hungry.
Big Al was great! Very informative. Saw a lot during the duration of the tour. Definitely recommend!
Big Al was very knowledgeable about the history of Boston. Fun to talk to & answered our questions. He adjusted our walking if needed pointed out yummy spots to grab a sub (which we went back for before leaving the city-Monica’s Merchants) and delicious pastries- Mikes or Modern- cash only.
Big Al was a hoot. He surely knows his Boston history. Having perfect weather didn’t hurt either. We had a fabulous day!
BEST tour we went on. This tour is an experience that everyone NEEDS to do. Big Al treats you like a long lost cousin and he's taking you around to all of his favorite places in Boston. His knowledge and information was so much more then even the Freedom Trial tour. Wonderful hospitality and we're grateful for his knowledge. 100% recommend!!
Great tour! Big AL was an amazing guide. Loved exploring the city, eating and drinking while learning about the history. Also loved how knowledgeable and engaging he was. He did an amazing job ensuring he gave everyone a great and unique Boston Experience!
Big Al was very knowledgeable and accommodating. Very open to questions. Took the fairy to Charleston which provided a different perspective. We had a great time.
This is a great time to learn a little history, have a few drinks, meet a few friends, and really appreciate Boston! Big Al is the man! Or as we would call him in San Diego, Grande Al!
This was a really great experience. Highly recommended. It seemed a little pricey at first, but boy, do you get a lot of stuff for your money. Big Al was extremely knowledgeable about Boston and the revolutionary war, the north end of Boston and the history of the places we walked, and the taverns we went in. Everyone on the tour got a beer or cocktail in two taverns and appetizers in both taverns. Let me tell you, we had so much food to eat in both taverns. The appetizers in both taverns were huge and each couple got to choose their own appetizer plus big Al bought one for the table. Really really great food and then we all got cannolis at the end. We were stuffed. Highly recommend this tour.
This is hands down the best tour we’ve ever had! Big Al was not only informative but extremely funny and personable. The small group size allowed us to ask questions and genuinely have a personalized experience. We were able to bond/connect with Al and the other participants. I cannot recommend this tour enough. Not only did we learn about Boston, the North End and historical figures but we laughed, enjoyed good food and drinks and left feeling like we spent the afternoon with friends. This tour is an absolute must!
Big Al is an absolutely incredible guide. Very entertaining and knowledgeable. Great food and drinks. This has been one of our favorite tours.
Our guide Big Al was great. I wasn’t sure how it would go since they were only three of us in the group. But we all had a great time. The two taverns that we ate at were wonderful. I do wish there was a little more historic information question, but I think what Big Al covered was great. I really enjoyed going to Charlestown, I have never been there before. I would highly recommend this tour to family and friends.
Big Al was our host and the tour was just for our family of three. We had laughs, American revolution stories and history and visits to two brilliant and oldest of Bostons Inns. 3 and a half hours well spent and good value.
Only 2 pubs on the tour. Would have liked more pubs.
I am now a history nerd! It came to life today as a group of six strangers from differnt cities all joined Big Al for the day- a 3-hr walk-about became 6 All fueled by amazing pace and chat about Paul Revere and the Sons of Liberty became a real life dive into what it might have been to live the real seeds of revolution. The taverns chosen were purposeful. And fun! The walk was great- a clear coverage of Boston proper! But that no one left promptly at the last stop, spoke volumes. We will always remember this day when a 3-hr tour became a day full of everything Boston!
A friend and I (her from US, me from UK) decided to do this as a great way to discover some of Boston during our girls trip and we had a blast! We were joined by 3 others so we were a perfect size group. Our guide, Al - a true Bostonian - kept us entertained for the entire tour with history and anecdotes, including two excellent stops at pubs for drinks and appetisers. Even the rain didn't dampen our spirits! We were all getting on so well we stayed at our last stop for an additional two hours after the tour finished, Al included! Highly recommend if want an overview of some of Bostons most famous history with the added bonus of drinks too.
Our tour guide was phenomenal! So knowledgeable and made things so much fun. Very aware of us and accommodating (even with unexpected cold temps). Great food recommendations too! Taverns we went to were perfect!
Had an awesome afternoon tour with Big Al and my girlfriends. He was so fun with lots of positive energy and historic knowledge everywhere we went on the Taverns Tours. Would highly recommend!
Learned a lot of history while enjoying good food and drinks. Big Al was awesome, full of energy and fun facts. Highly recommend this tour!!
Exceptional food, beer and guide. Would highly recommend this experience. Great history lessons, with a solid amount of comedy mixed in. Remember to wear good walking shoes.
Allot of info and good knowledge of area. Big al has great local knowledge. He was well known everywhere with was i.pressive.
Very fun and informative. Be sure to dress for the weather and definitely wear comfortable shoes. Our guide, Big Al was fun.
I was in Boston on business and had an afternoon of free time so I chose to take The Boston Historic Taverns Tour with Tastings and Ferry. And what an excellent choice that was. "Big Al" is one of the best tour guides I've ever seen (I took the Boston Pizza Lovers tour with him earlier this year and he seems incredibly passionate about his work). He's incredibly friendly, funny and very knowledgeable about the history and the city of Boston in general. He told detailed, informative stories and answered multiple questions. Unfortunately we were unable to access the USS Constitution Museum due to the government shutdown; however, the Warren and Bell in Hand Taverns as well as the other sites that we were able to access were extremely interesting and well worth taking the tour.
This tour was very fun, informative, and filled with great stories (not all based in truth). There was beautiful walks through the streets of Charlestown and the north End. The guide was engaging and knowledgeable.
If you get Big Al as your guy, you're in for a real treat. He certainly has a passion for history and is full of all kinds of facts. He had answers for all our questions, knew all the neat local places to go and shared a lot of information.
Big Al took us into Charlotte to different areas and pointed out buildings as well as entertained us with stories along the way. Places we stopped to eat and drink had good food and ambiance.
Our tour person Al was very knowledgeable and a-lot of fun! We all had a great time! Definitely recommend.
Big Al was a great tour guide. Funny and knowledgeable about the history of Boston. We had some beer and appetizers at 2 bars and Al got some oysters that we all took a toast with and sucked down. If you like a good beer or wine and love to meet new people and want to learn a little more about Boston, than I would say book this tour.
So much fun!!! Big Al had great energy and stories! Totally recommend! Covered a lot of area and a short time and loved the small group.
It’s a great walk (around 10,000 steps) and worth each step. Time spent on Freedom Trail! Raising a glass in a pub where Washington and other historic characters did the same. And the cannoli- oh my goodness. I save the best for last - Big Al - our guide. He is full of energy and great stories. Made sure the group moved at a comfortable pace. Loved it!
Big Al is passionate about history and Boston. His energy and fun personality created instant comradery in our group. We enjoyed learning about the history & trivia about the area. Stopping for beverages & snacks. He helped with food paring.
Great tour with a great guide. Some walking but not too much. You can tell he really is proud of the area and all of its history. Any tour with beer is alright by me! Highly recommended.
We had big Al for our guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. He brought history to life! Was a lot of fun
Al was great - very knowledgeable and entertaining! Quite a bit of walking but it was not difficult and we went through really interesting areas of Boston. The pubs were fantastic. We would definitely recommend this tour.
It was EXCELLENT!!! Big AL WAS AWESOME!!! His character and knowledge of history was amazing!! We walked a lot but Big Al made it so much fun! I Highly recommend this if you want Boston history!
A great tour, Big Al was a fantastic tour guide and very knowledgeable. A perfect blend of history and fun!
Fun tour through Boston history while enjoying time at two great taverns. Al was great and took good care of us.
We learned so much from Al. He made our tour both informative and a lot of fun. I highly recommend taking his tour!!
Fantastic experience with Big Al. Learned so much and laughed so much. Perfect blend of seeing a lot but relaxing with the stops at the Taverns
We had such an informative tour guide (Big Al) we spent the whole tour having a great laugh and he wanted to make the experience as comfortable as possible doing a few pit stops in shaded areas due to the heat. We had a small, intimate group which all got on so well. The history, walk, food and drink was top notch and the ferry experience was also lovely.
This tour was exceptional!!! Big Al was entertaining and ensured everyone had a great time! We started off at the modern Pastry and took a ferry over to Charlestown and visited a bar there then walked back to the ferry, history along the way…stopped for a bathroom break then headed to the hand in bell tavern. The only thing I would have done differently with somehow take out some of the walking from Charlestown back to Little Italy, but perhaps we would’ve missed out on that hidden gem in Charlestown… everyone was super!
We saw all the top Revolutionary sites in a walking tour….ferry ride was very enjoyable break from walking. The Taverns were outstanding!
It was a fun outing. The small group size and Al the guide made this a great experience. Fun pubs and great cocktails made this historic experience even more enjoyable,
Big Al is great. Very entertaining tour and Big Al really made it so fun! Lots of good food, drinks and history. Highly recommend
My boyfriend and I had such a great time on this historical pub tour in Boston. Big Al was an outstanding guide. He was super friendly, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable. You could tell he really cares about the stories he tells and always takes the time to explain the “why” behind the events. That made the whole experience feel much more meaningful and memorable. We especially loved taking the ferry. It was a unique and scenic way to see the city. Learning about important moments like the Battle of Bunker Hill was a highlight. Big Al made it all come alive with his storytelling. The pub stops added a fun and relaxed atmosphere where we could enjoy a drink and chat with others. We would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone looking for a unique and entertaining Boston experience.
Al made the experience enjoyable and fun. I would definitely recommend this tour! It included a lot of history as well as good food and drinks.
Big Al was soo knowledgeable and funny..Loved it He was great with going at our pace,so we never felt rushed or too tired.
