Itinerary
Pop into Faneuil Hall, once a town meeting hall where Samuel Adams used to speak, and today a government auditorium with cool old art.
On this Freedom Trail walking tour, I’ll take you to all 16 of its sites including where unarmed citizens were shot dead in a massacre by British soldiers (sort of), where American colonists gathered to toss 92 tons of tea into Boston Harbor (we call it a Party), and where Paul Revere left on his Midnight Ride (before getting arrested).
Visit Brewer Fountain and hear about how Boston was formed before taking in the impressive Massachusetts State House.
Get to know the character's of Boston's yore as you peruse this beautiful graveyard. It's dusty inhabitants include James Otis, John Hancock, Paul Revere and Samuel Adams, some of Boston's most important historical figures.
Explore one of Boston's oldest buildings, dating back to 1713 and learn about the interesting history of Boston's unique trading position.
Marvel at the grand façade of Boston's Old City Hall and learn about the birth of the American legal system.
Old South Meeting House was the largest building in colonial Boston at one point and where the Boston Tea Party was planned, an important catalyst for the American Revolution.
Marvel at the gold and brick structure that is the Massachussets state house and ponder the American Revolution.
Grab a refreshment at Beantown Pub, a Bostonian favourite and home of the Sam Adam's beer.
Learn about the history of Irish immigrants in America and the biological tragedy which forced them to leave their homeland for the great unknown.
See where the infamous incident of the Boston Massacre happened in 1770 where nine British officers went up against a crowd of hundreds of people. Five Bostonian lives were lost during this revolt.
Explore Boston's oldest outdoor market, which offers the best deals on fresh produce, fish and flowers in the historic heart of the city.

The virtual tour guide is knowledgable, witty and interesting. I found this tour to be a great way to explore the city’s history on your own terms and at your own pace.
Such a great way to explore Boston solo! I didn’t want to do a formal group tour and was so impressed with this entire audio experience. I had never done anything like it before and it was so easy to download and use and I loved how the audio would automatically start when I got to the next location.
Educational and fun. Take your time and absorb the history around you. Grab a Canolli and Italian Coffee.
Excellent narration in a storytelling, humorous tone. Interesting information too. The map feature was very helpful.
Hillary was an amazing tour guide. She knew information about the Salem witch trials, local ghost, general information about Salems historical history, and of course, hocus-pocus. We learned so much and more from our tour with Hillary. She also took amazing pictures of us. She provided hand warmers as a nice gesture due to the weather. She also gave us great recommendations for shopping and food for the next day. Overall 10 out of 10 recommendation for our tour with Hillary.
What a fantastic tour! The narration was excellent, the narrator's sonorous voice clearly explaining the history of each part of the trail. He added humor and relatable anecdotes where needed to make the information relevant and timeless. The directions were clear and easy to follow. We loved the Oporto take a break then restart without having the stress of keeping up with a tour group. Absolutely wonderful experience!
Easy to follow with great information shared! We liked having the option to peel off and linger at our choosing. We also took advantage of the food recommendations! Yum!
It was such a great tour. The map follows along with you so the timing elements work out so well with audio tour! It was very thorough and not boring at all. So thankful for this opportunity. We were able to add on museum tickets or rest at our disgression then continue on. Thankful.
Historical wittiness! The narrator had vast knowledge of sites along the Freedom Trail and used humor and intellect to impart facts about the importance about each site.
Great tour. Very informative and the narrator had just enough sarcasm to make it fun. Highly recommend.
Fantastic tour! The code received was able to be used by all in our party (me and husband) so we both downloaded the app and listened on our phones. Tour guide did a great job with directions and telling of the history in each area. VERY easy to follow along with. The guide ends at the view of the USS Constitution and Bunker Hill, not actually at the locations, so if you wanted to actually visit these you would have to plan separately. The rest of the tour was great though. Would 10/10 recommend for those that want to complete the Freedom Trail on a self-guided tour!
Great day - loved listening to James narrate and had a great time even though the rest of group was in meetings. Loved the cannoli he recommended! Diana
This download is amazing - it was really cold and windy when we went and we were able to pick and choose the most important stops and we can review later! We have also been looking at some of the other amazing tours we now have access to! I would highly recommend this app!!
The app was slightly confusing to download and to start using. It took awhile to figure it out with my confirmation code, etc. Once downloaded, the narrator's voice was super clear and understandable. Both me and my husband downloaded the app. His worked well. I had to manually press the forward button when I reached the next site. The map didn't always read where I was, and I had to forward and replay when it stopped mid-story. Other than that, I did like it. We saw alot and learned quite a bit. I would recommend it. Especially, if you want to go your own pace and make quick stops in between to go eat or drink, etc. Start mid-morning. It was a great day!
OK, this is the first time I did this. Lucky to say they have made me a believer. The app worked perfectly. I practiced a couple of times before arriving in Boston. If you want a pleasant funny and detailed account of the Freedom Trail, this is the tour for you. The directions are easy. The speaker clear and informative. The descriptions of the 16 sites are detailed and poignant. It took. 2 1/2 hours to go through them all. So fun and informative. I did it alone so I was at my own pace. Looking forward to using this app again.
