It was a gorgeous theatre and we had lots of fun seeing how everything was run. We got to walk all around back stage and see the cooling systems. We also got to go on stage and play a bunch of theatre games. And the guide was absolutely amazing and answered all of our questions!!
No booking required! Tours daily at noon. Vinceta gave us a tour of the entire facility. This theater has 100 ft ceilings, Greek murals and sculptures built into the architecture of a most impressive building. The only thing I have ever seen that rivals it's art and architecture is the basilica in Washington DC. This truly extraordinary theater has a rich history as it was once the premiere place in Boston for all major artists. These days Broadway plays and large concerts are performed there. As an added perk, a rock and roll Hall of Fame type exhibit was displayed in the basement. I was able to see original costuming of Elvis Presley, BB King, Etta James, Madonna, Michael Jackson and the list goes on. You do not want to miss putting this on your stop if you visit Boston!
We enjoyed the self guided tour of three exhibits here. Had a lot of fun at the “music bar”..learned so much. The theatre is beautiful too so make sure you go up to the third floor exhibit for the view too!,
Excellent tour guide! Informative, cordial and a theater aficionado. The restored theater is a stunning gem.
Stunning theater built in 1925; I highly recommend it! Elijah, the tour guide, was outstanding—- he was friendly and knew everything about the theater! I loved the history and architecture and being able to visit various places throughout the theater (I didn’t realize how large it is)! Go! It’s a great experience!
It was interesting to know the building’s history and how its purpose evolved to what it is now. Very special feeling when it is empty, seeing the backstage is and being on the stage is a unique experience. Our guide Marcus was knowledgeable and professional. Definitely recommend!
This review is for the theater It seemed rather dirty and not kept up. The ladies room was dirty.. My seat area was dirty box l2 And you couldn't see the show because of The chairs in front of you. People wearing shorts and flip flops. Huge line for drinks. Horrible traffic out front. Horrible experience will not go back.
We were greeted at the entrance by V. We had a warm welcome to the theatre and were informed it was just myself and my wife for the tour, so basically a private tour all for ourselves. The tour itself was very informative and interesting. We are both theatre goers and enjoyed learning about the history of the building. We were blown away by the size of the theatre itself. It was larger than any theatre we have been in (we are from the UK). We were shown all parts of the theatre and told stories of performers that had played their. A truly fantastic experience for any theatre lovers. Big shout out to V who was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable.
When my wife and I were planning our trip to Boston, we saw the Wang Theatre and emailed to see if we could take a private tour. It ended up being one of the most interesting things we did in Boston. There is so much interesting history surrounding the theater, and our tour guide was able to go in depth and clearly knew the history without it seeming like she was just there to show us around or reading from a script. She was really engaging and answered all of my questions. We saw every floor, including the VIP area, and the guide had stories to tell everywhere. From the architecture, history, and its relationship to music and film, the theater has a rich past that we found fascinating. Thanks for the tour!
5-Tour Guide was very knowledgeable. I especially enjoyed the old amenities available to patrons in the 1920’s. The modern improvements are spectacular!
Beautiful theatre! We were pleasantly surprised by the extra exhibits and really enjoyed learning about the history of the building. Thanks V for a great tour!
The architecture was beautiful and our tour guide, Marcus, was very kind amd informative! What a beautiful structure with a rich history. The folk/jazz musicians exhibits were very nicely done and had a lot of valuable installations! One of the highlights of our trip, and we would highly recommend.
Beautiful theatre and great tour guide! The tour started in the lobby then we sat in the theatre, and went on stage. All great. This took about 30 minutes and we really enjoyed it. Then the next hour was spend going through exhibits of folk and Americano memorabilia which I had no interest in. I know that was disclosed in the description but I thought the focus would be more on the amazing architecture and design of the building.
I run a travel program at a local bank and took 20 customers on April 11th for the tour of Boch Center Wang Theatre. Scott was our tour guide; he was nothing short of fantastic!! Five-star reviews from each attendee. Among some of the comments: "Scott the historian was knowledgeable and pleasant"; "the tour was fabulous, Scott was terrific"; "the tour exceeded my expectations"; "standing on the stage was such a thrill". HIGHLY recommend Scott and the backstage tour. He took two hours with our group; he was very attentive, funny and left no corner unseen.
The Boch Center Wang Theatre and Folk American Roots Hall of Fame Tour was outstanding. This is a must see for all theater and music lovers. Their historian Scott was a font of knowledge and so pleasant. You will see the music exhibits on the second floor and in the basement. There are photos, instruments, statues, programs of American musicians and songwriters of many genres. The Center will soon be inducting some of these people into their Hall of Fame private event and that will be featured on PBS. The basement room has a hologram of philanthropist Ernie Boch with whom you can interact as well as some of his guitars and some decorated guitars. You will sit in the audience and hear about the incredible art work. You will stand on the enormous stage which is a once in a lifetime experience. You will see a dressing room, autographed by performers playbills, and even the unique AC room. It was a wonderful few hours in this grand dame of Boston theater.
There primarily for the Springsteen exhibition. The theater tour was fabulous. As theater geeks, I loved being backstage and downstairs. Seeing the walls signed by so many artists was wonderful, I would go again!
What an amazing theater. As soon as you walk in you are in awe of how beautiful this theater is. It is so ornately decorated. From my vantage point it did not seem like there was a bad seat in the house. The seats were very comfortable and there was plenty of room between each row. It was a pleasant theater experience and would definitely like to go back to see other shows in the future.
Ordering tickets to historic filled theatre in Boston was easy with a great price. Tour started at entrance of building, which was locked when we arrived, we didn't know if it was cancelled or if we were at wrong location. I called number on ticket several times before someone answered and said to just wait. Tour was amazing, being lead from floor to floor even backstage and lower level of theatre by the guide who was informative and waited for everyone before he began to talk. Parking was not onsite and was hectic to find. After tour I presented my parking ticket for credit and was told they do not honor parking tickets. I would have walked to theatre if I knew they wouldn't pay parking; which was part of the ticket offer.
So helpful when making reservations and even when it was necessary to reschedule due to illness. Our guide was outstanding and so knowledgeable about the history and special exhibitions.
This was simply amazing! Vee was our tour guide and as it was only a small group gave us extra time in the music experience areas which were a great addition as I wasn’t expecting these. The theatre itself is just amazing and really spectacular, I would say it’s more grand than majority of the London theatres, just breathtaking as you go into the main lobby. Best of the tour was you actually get to go all the way upto the orchestra pit AND onto the stage!!! Which you never ever get to do. This was a highlight for me seeing the stage from the performers view. Definitely a must do your for anyone who loves theatre, performing arts or general history and architecture.
Really great tour of the theatre and exhibitions. Our guide, Marcus, was very knowledgeable and very enthusiastic. Definitely worth a visit if you a local or visiting Boston.
Boston is steeped in history. The Wang Center is a delicious slice of that history. Recently restored to its original opulence, just the opportunity to explore it free of crowds is worth the price of admission. Our guide Scott’s entertaining and engaging stories elevated the experience. Add a fantastic collection of Americana Roots memorabilia and you have yourself a winner. Highly recommended for dyed in the wool Bostonians and visitors alike.
So rich in detail about the history of a building right in my backyard but had never thought about. Fascinating and fun stories!
I went with 5 of my family members and on of the shen Yun security people made me feel so Awful. He was so rude. I wanted to leave. I went down stairs and George helped me and made me feel better and I stayed. I'm a regular customer to boch center and I really appreciate the help from them.
An interesting and informative tour of this beautiful theatre. Wonderful learning about the history, discovering hidden features (that are actually not hidden but never noticed when visiting for a show!), seeing the backstage areas with the murals and messages from past performers. The Hall of Fame displays are fascinating. Highly recommend this tour.
Really informative and entertaining tour. Great tour host. Beautiful theatre and felt such a privilege to experience a tour of this building. Would definitely recommend this.
Such a great museum tour and well worth the $25 admission. Our tour guide was excellent and I learned so much about the history of the theatre. The Bruce Springsteen exhibit was why I went and it did not disappoint! Getting on stage and getting to see the dressing room where Jerry Seinfeld had used the previous night and all the signatures back stage were other highlights of the tour!
We took the Wang Center tour with Scott in Sept 2023! He was a great help getting our reservation & was incredibly knowledgable about the history of the Center. The Center itself is stunning inside & is home to lots of signed memorabilia for every music fan of every genre. The exhibits are a bit spread out but I’m looking forward to the day the Centre can put their full vision of a museum together.
The tour of the theater is fantastic. Getting on stage, backstage, under the stage, and even seeing the dressing rooms was really cool in such a historic theater. Our main reason for going was to see the Folk and Americana Roots Hall of Fame. The HOF is in its infancy so it needs as much exposure as possible, but already it has a heap of folk and Americana memorabilia to check out. Stage outfits, signed guitars, and all kinds of items the theater has acquired or loaned are on display! 10/10 would go again if we are ever in Boston again. You can even buy some HOF merch to help support the theater. Would highly recommend.
Really enjoyed seeing signatures of past performers on the walls and hearing the history of the theatre.
The tour was amazing. The building itself was a work of art, so impressive and gorgeous. The guide was very knowledgeable. We liked those stories behind the scenes and got a chance to visit different sections of the theater and stand on the stage! Wish we could have been there for a performance, definitely recommend it as Must see in Boston!
This is a great tour. The guide explained the history of the theater. The tour takes you to the upper areas of the theater, dressing rooms, the unique air conditioning system, and the stage. The music exhibits are really interesting. I like Arlo Guthrie and enjoyed his exhibit. We enjoyed the tour more than we expected.
IF you cant see a live performance also then the tour is a great way to start. You will want to come back and see a show or two. This incredibly beautiful historic theater is a national treasure and we are lucky that the Wang and Boch families and friends have invested to maintain it in such terrific condition. Our guide, V was knowledgeable and extremely comfortable showing off the place. She has some wonderful stories about the artists and visitors and knew all the history of the place. I loved how she spoke in first person. She starts with ' When we build the theater... It was very endearing. I have been in nice halls before but this was by far the most beautiful.
This place was amazing ! The tour guide was extreemly knowledgeable and friendly. She told us so many interesting facts about the Wang Theater. We were able to get up close to see the detailed architecture and paintings. We were able to go in and see the dressing rooms and even stand on stage as if we were performing. We got to sit in any of the seats even the VIP section and see the different perspectives and angles of the theater. There are tons of musical artifacts and showcases of artists that were there even WALLS of signatures from past performers. It was more beautiful and interesting than I thought it was going to be. We highly recommend this tour.
This was a great tour. There were about 12 people, we walked around and got to hear the history of the building, what it was like when it first opened, etc. There were several interesting exhibits to see on the top floor and in the basement. I enjoyed seeing all the autographed walls and posters in the basement and touring the dressing rooms. Our tour guide was really knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The tour ended with a trip on stage which was surprisingly much larger than expected. Lots of opportunities for some great pictures. Would recommend this for anyone who has an interest in the theater.
A hidden gem to discover. The Wang Theatre is a beautiful and charming building plenty of history. The tour not only shows you the main dependences but also the memorabilia, backstage, permenent and new exhibitions in a reduced group. A really intimate experience. The tour guide explanations were really interesting and she was extremely kind like her manager. Highly reccomended for all the Boston visitors.
I brought a bus group of 56 for an afternoon tour, and everyone agreed that it was excellent. Such a gorgeous venue and so grateful it is still being maintained. Scott Towers was a fantastic guide - very personable and knowledgeable. The Folk Americana Roots Hall of Fame was very interesting and enjoyable as it covered the Boston area personalities and bands that all who have grown up in the area know so well - a trip down memory lane with some tidbits and pictures you may have not have known before.
An enjoyable tour through an often missed jewel of a theatre. Great to get the history of this nearly century old theatre told with passion, energy and humor. They had two rotating exhibits (A few of Ernie Boch’s guitars and a Dylan photo gallery) along with some permanent and terrific music.
My wife and I had a wonderful time last Saturday. We went to an exhibit at the Folk Americana and Roots Hall of Fame. It is housed at the beautiful Wang Center on Tremont St. In Boston. It was a collection called “Don’t Think Twice”. A.collection of Photos of Bob Dylan from 1964 & 65. By photographer Daniel Kramer. These images were displayed beautifully. What really made the day special for me was, It also included a tour of the Wang Center. Which is on of the most amazing theaters in America. Having grown up in this area I had been there a number of times. Also, There was a collection of Ernie Boch’s rare guitars. Scott Towers from FARHOF gave a wonderful tour with great knowledge of its history. I highly recommend this wonderful tour.
Being on stage The autograph walls by the dressing rooms The historian was great! Very informative and passionate.
Touring the Wang Theater while it was otherwise not open to the public made for a great Sunday afternoon experience in Boston. Our tour guide, Scott, was very knowledgeable and led our small group (8) through the theater, as we learned the long and amazing history of the Wang. My husband and I especially enjoyed being “behind the scenes”, viewing the Dan Kramer photo exhibit and learning about the RAF Hall of Fame. I recommend this tour both to locals and to Boston visitors. A+
What a hidden treasure in Boston! My husband found out about the exhibit from the Boston Globe. From beginning to end, the communication with Scott (the tour guide) was great. We were greeted along with a small handful of other people for a 90-minute tour that included access to the theater itself, a photo exhibit of Bob Dylan and much much more. We highly recommend!!!
Scott was an engaging, enthusiastic and very informative tour guide. it was obvious he loves his work as a historian and sharing history of the Wang Theatre and its restoration. We enjoyed the Bob Dylan photograph collection by Bob Kramer, the Ernie Boch guitar collection, photographs of performers and the opportunity to stand on a magnificent stage . We definitely recommend this unique tour!
When you go to the Wang for a show, you're probably too rushed and crowded to relax and take in the architecture. It is truly amazing. The tour gives you a behind the scenes look at show business and is quite enjoyable. Historian Scott is very knowledgeable and entertaining. If you go before mid March 2023, you will also see an exhibition of Bob Dylan photography portraits that is phenomenal. Stuff you've never seen, even if you're a big fan.
So special to have a memorable tour with an excellent, knowledgeable, and personable guide in a beautifully restored historically significant theatre. The Daniel Kramer exhibit of Bob Dylan photographs was awesome as was being on the magnificent stage and seeing autographs of past performers on the backstage walls. Ernie Boch Jr.’s guitar collection and the Americana exhibit rounded out a very unique and enjoyable tour.
Scott did an amazing job on our tour. We learned so much and got to see some really cool spaces within the building. The Dylan exhibit was VERY cool. I learned a lot and the rest of the exhibits were so fun. I would highly recommend it for any music enthusiast!
Such a fun and thorough experience on this tour with Scott! Great communicator and really knows his stuff. Highly recommend. Great value- used with Go City app.
Excellent tour. The theater is a beatiful historic building and the tour was a great find. It takes you backstage and on stage, the theater historian is very knowledgeable and tells great anecdotes about the theater and the people involved with it.
This tour was well worth the time and cost. It doesn't matter if you're from out of town or lived in New England all your life. If you're a fan of music and history, you won't be disappointed. The Wang Theater is a special piece of Boston history. The Ernie Boch guitar collection was a huge bonus.
