Margaret River Group Surfing Lesson

Thank you so much Margaret River Surf School for providing such a great learning environment for our students. The coaches, equipment and location were fantastic. The coaches allow students to guide the instruction of the lesson due to their ability, and allowed them freedom to make their own choices. Many students went from surfing the inside to surfing green waves in one lesson.

We loved it, we had so much fun, the instructors were super friendly and tried their best to get us up on the board. 10/10 recommended

The team is fantastic : friendly, patient, and super encouraging. I took the 3-lesson package and absolutely loved it. Despite a few falls, I managed to catch some waves, it was so much fun!!! Our school used MR Surf School to teach our students to surf over a course of three weeks. The instructors were enthusiastic and helpful and our kids really enjoyed their time in the water. Many were buzzing with enthusiasm and noting this as a highlight of their Primary School years. Due to the huge amount of positive feedback we are now considering how to make this an annual tradition.

I got the package group lesson. I have had a great time. Patrick and Arthur were very good at giving me helpful tips to have fun, be safe in the water and now I am excited about my new passion. Thanks Margaret River Surf School.

The coaches and staff at Margaret River Surf School provided the most amazing experience for our Year 12 Outdoor Education students. The coaches were able to instil confidence in the students to challenge themselves and develop their surfing skills in a safe environment. I have been teaching Outdoor Education for 15 years and this was the best surf lesson and experience that I have been a part of with Outdoor Education students.

The group lesson was awesome. I would highly recommend for all ages, we had a 3 year old and a 73 year old! The instructors were great with kids and really made an effort for everyone at all levels. Redgate beach is also a magic spot.

I did a Group lesson with Arthur as our instructor. I had a great time! First we had a walkthrough of safety and then we got straight into the water! Can definitely recommend if you wanna try surfing for your first time!

My husband and daughter did a 5 day lesson. I went along and watched each day. They improved a little everyday with the wonderful coaching and experience that was offered. The instructors were all very helpful, kind and very friendly. Even from the beach I could tell my family were in great hands. Arthur was our favorite. The age group during the week was very wide, with different experiences, the boys looked after everyone equally with experience, safety and care.

As beginners, we got a bit unlucky with extremely big waves, so it felt quite unsafe as we were surfing in an area full of rocks which could have been dangerous. Since the conditions were quite dangerous, only one student at a time could try to catch a wave with one of the instructors, while the other people had to wait and paddle away from the rocks and massive waves. Due to this, we were in a rotation system and we only had the opportunity to go about 6 times each in 2 hours of lesson. The instructor Jorge was friendly and helped us paddle in the waves. We still had fun, but it didn’t feel completely safe and definitely not beginner friendly. If the conditions are better and you can surf on a beach with sand, it is probably much better.

I caught the best wave of my life today, with instructor Russel at Margaret Surf school. Epic experience can't wait for the next lesson. Thanks guys Ryda

The instructors were lovely, but WAY too many students to instructors. People just sitting in the water with their boards, waiting to be told what to do but it is impossible for one instructor (as lovely as they were) to help 8 novices learn to surf. Great concept, great people, but rather reduce the numbers and increase the price if required, as you don’t get much out of it in its current format.

Went to the surf school at redgate beach on the 5&11 Jan. Had George, Luka and Patrick on the 5th and George and Arthur on the 11. Had my daughters with me, non of us had surfed before. The guys were really helpful and positive. Cheered us on when we caught waves, and gave positive encouragement when we didn’t. I’d highly recommend them, and will definitely go back again. Tony

LUCA & Patrick provided professional, appropriate information to support, teach & make the lessons enjoyable for all. Perfect conditions on the first day allowed all to brush up there skills. Second day was more challenging but Lucca & Patrick enabled all to push their limits in choppy conditions & learn to steer aswell as stand. Professional outfit, 3rd day saw sore bodies, but with enthusiastic coaches all enjoyed the final day of surfing feeling a sense of achievement. HIGHLY recommend as staff knowledgeable, relaxed but attentive to variety of needs of group & who were able to engage & build rapport with kids.

I had five days lessons It was great decision that I made!! I’m in progress!!! Ollie and Jorge are great coaches! highly recommend them!

Arthur and Jorge are the best trainers. Focused on safety, relocating to better suited breaks when needed. Always go out of their way to make sure everyone gets up on waves with 1 on 1 training where needed. Highly recommended

We loved our 3 consecutive days of group lessons! The coaches were wonderful, and it was awesome to meet and learn from different coaches each day, as well as surf with a bunch of different people! They provided lots of theoretical knowledge and adjusted to our level of surfing each day accordingly so we could progress! We loved it so much that we came back to hire some boards and went out for a surf by ourselves! Thanks team, much appreciated!! :)

Jarrad and the team at Margaret River Surf School are fantastic! I am an Outdoor Education teacher, and I took my classes down to Margaret River in March this Year for a surfing expedition. From the booking process, down to the way in which the surf instructors interacted and coached the students, the experience was seamless. I would highly recommend using Margaret River Surf School for any school trips.

I've made the trip down to Margaret River from Perth a few weekends across this summer. Grew up in the ocean but never learned to surf and always wanted to! In my 30s, giving it a good crack learning and I've been really grateful and impressed by my experiences in the water with these guys. Arthur's been there every lesson - great teacher - patient, knowledgeable and skilled, lots of great tips as I slooooowly build some confidence out there. :-) Thanks to all the coaches!

Arthur and Jorje were amazing! They were super fun, really patient and informative with me and the kids who were all under 10 and standing up within the first 10mins. Thanks guys was definitely worth every cent and can’t wait to do again!!!!

Amazing, the coaches were excellent, forever encouraging and always giving the right advice. Always wanted to surf at Margaret River and to do it with people who know the area and in a friendly group made it even better. I’m 60 and so glad that I did the full five days. Highly recommend it to anybody.

Coach Jorge is great. He's so patience with my boy. If we have holiday, my boy will choose Jorge to be his coach again. We will recommend surf school to my friends as well.

My son and I did a 2 hour course on beautiful Redgate Beach It was excellent special thanks to Luke and Jorge. They provided great teaching, enthusiasm and it was lots of fun.

Signed our kids up for a single lesson while we were camping in Margs for the holidays. and they LOVED it. They have never surfed before, and the surf instructors were incredibly patient and encouraging. The kids loved it so much we booked them in for a second lesson. Highly recommend.

Took three sessions in the space of a week with the surf school, and cannot fault it in anyway! The coaches are so friendly, helpful, and most importantly encouraging and just frothing to help anyone and everyone learn to surf! Their wetsuits are super high quality and they have sizes for everyone, and they really work hard to help everyone get the most that they can out of each lesson! I can't thank them enough for helping me to start my journey in surfing. Also - who doesn't love Redgate Beach!

After being keen on trying surfing for years, my experience with MRSS was absolutely incredible and I have since been totally hooked on all things surfing. Since finishing the three-lesson package, I feel so much safer and confident in the water and on the board and feel that the coaching I received throughout the lessons has allowed me to consolidate the basics and good technique on the board. Aside from the actual learning and practical components of the lesson, the main thing that made the experience even more amazing were the coaches that supported us through the lessons. As well as holding a wealth of knowledge surrounding surfing, water safety, and technique, they are also the friendliest people on earth and really fuelled the stoke when you started to catch some waves. As someone who has a slight fear of sharks, during the lessons, it never once crossed my mind to consider sharks or even getting stuck under the water because I felt so relaxed and safe with the coaches and knew that our safety was their priority. I would also like to especially mention Alex for taking myself and my brothers out for some one-on-one time on our third lesson so we could really make the most of the swell and Luke for bringing the good green wave vibes during our second lesson - you guys really brought the stoke. Overall an amazing experience ran by amazing people and would 10/10 recommend - double shakkas from me :)

First time surfing!! The instructor was rlly great and friendly~ i stood up once on the surfboard!!!! Tho u gotta prepare for swallowing lotsa seawater, it's overall funnn and may contact them agn for another surf lesson!!! But probably with friends nx time hehe. No photos cuz i had too much fun enjoying da wavesssssss

I'm 63 and managed to get up on the board a few times on the first lesson. Great, supportive team on the beach and in the water. The equipment all looked in first-class condition to me (as far as I can tell as a novice). Recommended to newbies like me. It's got me interested in learning more when I get back to the east coast.

The whole experience, it was awesome from start to finish. The location was fantastic , the instructor was very knowledgeable, helpful and encouraging.

I enrolled my nine year old daughter into the Surf Groms group lessons this summer and it was a huge success! The coaching was fantastic; lessons were given with wonderful, positive and encouraging energy together with expertise, ensuring that all the kids got 110% out of their learning experience, as well as so much fun! By the end of it, she had accomplished new skills and stood up countless times! We will be back!

Fantastic introduction to surfing. Great instructors with the right balance of structure and just giving it a go! All the equipment is provided, basics are taught then its straight into the water to get some waves! Great experience. Highly recommend these guys to anyone thinking about trying out surfing.

I booked this for myself and my boyfriend as part of our trip down to Margaret River. I am not a confident swimmer, and typically I try to avoid the ocean. Both the instructors were caring, considerate and supportive throughout. Even as a complete beginners, with the help of the instructors, we were both able to stand up and had lots of time to practise. The experience was thrilling, fun and I would not hesitate to book this experience again and again. It was the highlight of our trip Thank you

I had an unreal experience with the Margaret River surf school from start to finish. Enthusiastic coach with great coaching directions helped change me from a complete beginner who’s never surfed before to being able to stand up on a board. I also gained the knowledge of staying safe on Australias coast when swimming/surfing solo which is going to be so beneficial. Would highly recommend this company if you want good fun and to learn a new skill. Thanks again for a brilliant 3 days

Myself and my brother did a group lesson with Bec. She described everything clearly and it didn’t take up too much time before we jumped on the board to practice. She ran through some great tips also, getting out past the waves. We were soon in the sea. It was a rough sea, but she helped us all eventually and we all managed to stand up by the end of it. At the end of the class, she even ran into the sea to rescue someone who got caught in a rip. A real hero, especially as Redgate beach doesn’t have lifeguards.

My girls aged 11 and 13 did the 3 day lessons and loved it! They actually did the lessons last year as well and really wanted to do them again this year. Very casual and fun for anyone wanting a go!
