Brilliant. Emma our guide was so much fun & the bush tucker experience was first rate.

Itinerary
Your tour will begin at 09.30 when we will meet at the Margaret River mouth, Prevelly Beach. Please note we do not pick up for this tour. You’ll be greeted by your guide at the end of the Rivermouth CarPark .Safety instructions, lifejackets and paddles will be allocated for the 2-person, 3-person or 4-person canoe boats Unique Australian sites are identified as you travel upstream on this beautiful crystal crystal-clear river. Access to the river is very restricted, so there are no powerboats, and the ecosystem is almost untouched, boasting an abundance of wildlife, unique coastal forests and tranquil waters. Lunch will be served around 12 pm and includes an exotic selection of wild food tastes from all over Western Australia, including kangaroo, emu and crocodile, wild fruits, vegetarian and vegan food. After lunch, we’ll paddle a little further upstream past forested kangaroo habitats and learn the history of our first native inhabitants, plus trials of the famous Bussell family, who were among the first European settlers in the region. There will be opportunities for unique photos, fun in the sun before we meander back downstream or race for a bottle of Margaret River wine.

My wife and I went on the Bushtucker Canoe trip with Dave as our guide, along with a group of others. Dave was an excellent guide and kept us entertained and informed at all things local about Margaret River and surrounds, including the bush tucker food we ate for lunch. Despite a headwind hitting us on the paddle up the river we were assisted by a tailwind on the way back. I can't recommend this canoe trip highly enough and if possible try and get Dave as your guide. He's the best.
Was a lot of fun and educational. Lucked out with perfect weather. Would recommend to the tour company to either move the trash bins or cover them before placing out all the food near them. Just bad optics. Guides were both very nice and friendly.
We really enjoyed our canoe trip and learning about all the local bush tucker. Emma was a really good hostess, very knowledgeable, calm and proficient. And the food was delicious! Emma also did a nice job of making sure everyone felt like they knew each other, which was a lovely touch. Our only criticism of this tour is why it started so late, knowing that the wind would pick up and make it less enjoyable. If the tour began at say, 7:30 or 8, the conditions around lunch time would be perfect for swimming. But by the time we got to the pontoon it was probably gusting to 15-20 knots. Not super pleasant. Other than that, it was a great day!
If you are in Margaret River don’t miss this tour, the scenery is beautiful, the experience unique and very well organized.
What a beautiful experience. With three adults and three children it was a scientific feat to coordinate our canoeing endeavours to locomote ourselves upriver! We had a wonderful day. Such a brilliant lunch comprising wild foods, and utterly delicious, with our guide explaining where the products came from in the wild. A memorable and pleasurable meal. I loved learning the history of the area and the heritage of the indigenous people for whom I have such respect and admiration. We swam in the river and had a restful lunchbreak in the sun. Thank you so much for one of those 'best times in my life'.
Take swim wear if you fancy a swim the river. Knowledgable guides tell you lots about local edible plants and herbs and we got to try various meats, berries and vegetables at lunch along with tasty bread. Canoeing isn’t too strenuous and you’re in a boat with others and share the work. Fun to have a race at the end too.
Enjoyable, educational, relaxing and delicious new foods to try. Adam our tour guide was capable & knowledgeable. He obviously enjoyed his work. We all had fun.
There is more information given than I expected. The river is beautiful. David is very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. It was a lovely day.
I would strongly advise skipping this trip. I would go as far as to say it was dangerous. There was a total lack of care shown to the group from the tour guide we had. It was so bad that most of the children on the tour were frightened and refused to get back in the canoes after the half way point. We were told unless we wanted to hitchhike or walk for hours we better get back in. There was another tour led by a lady who were not brought as far down the river as us (due to the weather) and seemed to have a different experience to the one we experienced by our guide (older gentleman). The wind was far too strong to be out on the water or to be brought as far down the river as we were brought. My friend and I ended up in the river pushing our canoe to try and get us to safety. The tour guide paddles past without a care in the world. I would avoid this tour.
Awesome trip up and down the river. The food was amazing, great to try some native Australian food. The kangaroo was epic. The guides were friendly and informative. Unfortunately, you can't go into the caves anymore. Great experience.
Our experience did not live up to the glowing reviews which we read when we booked the trip. We submitted a detailed review to the owner who took our concerns seriously and promised action in response. The issues related to the tour leader and the weather conditions. The group which took place at the same time and in the same weather conditions was led by another guide and it was evident that they had a positive experience which validated the positive reviews. We were just unlucky and chalk this up as a ‘one-off’. I would have confidence that future trips will be as good as most reviews claim.
The trip was very enjoyable. The tour guide, Emma, was very knowledgeable about the indigenous culture and history of the area. She was very patient and helpful with our canoe efforts. The bushtucker lunch was delicious and it was definitely worth the cost of the trip. Would highly recommend this tour for anyone of any skill level.
Wooditjup (Margaret River) canoe tour was amazing! I would 100% be recommending this to anyone travelling to the region. Highlights: -fantastic, cool, calm and knowledgeable tour guide. Our tour guide was an absolutely wonderful wise woman. -Culturally informative, the tour really supported everyone’s knowledge of how important the river is to the Aboriginal community past and present. - The food was unreal! I’ve never had so much Australian food in my life and I live here. - It is fun and safe for a wide range of age groups - No sharks in the river. - Heaps of bird watching, bring your binoculars. Very grateful for the experience and the knowledge we learnt.
Great day and interesting intro to the natural beauty of the area. Not overly taxing. European travelers, please cover up and use sunscreen.
A beautiful experience paddling on Margaret River learning local history. The Bush Tucker food was delicious. I’d highly recommend this tour for anyone.
An amazing experience and an equally amazing guide. Thoroughly informative and enjoyable. The Bush Tucker was great! PS it was a bonus to win the final sprint 😄🛶
Good fun, knowledgeable guide. Would have been useful to know that lunch was pretty much all bushtucker when you have fussy eaters but good time had by all. We’ll be achy tomorrow. Thank you
Great enjoyable peaceful and informative trip along Margaret River. Learnt about the history of the area the habitat and experienced and tasted Bushtucker food. Local produced foraged and prepared by Helen. Which was really enjoyable.
The bushtucker canoe tour was a unique, informative and exciting experience for us in our Margaret river holiday. The online booking was easy to do, clear comms about the starting point , and what to bring for the tour. The tour guide Emma was very helpful and got us into our canoes after an initial briefing. All four of us could stay together in one canoe. Emma provided us wonderful insights into the natural flora and fauna and history of the region during the tour. We stopped for a picnic lunch which included many options for vegetarians like us and they were mostly made with indigenous ingredients. The flavours were exotic unique and tasty offering us a different culinary experience. The canoe ride back in slightly windy conditions was challenging but just to the level required to make it interesting! Highly recommend this tour if you’re in the region.
What a great fun day out with family Hosted by Emma and Simon, Emma talked us through the history and culture of the area focusing on the history of the river. Lunch was provided as a cultural experience of locally sourced foods
Best day out in Margaret River. Emma, our guide, shared her knowledge of the river, aboriginal stories pertaining to the area, plus the foraged berries nuts fruits and meats to invigorate the group for the journey. It was interesting, exciting spotting birds and peaceful. A wonderful group of people of all ages made it even more pleasurable! Thank you again, Emma!
Our Bushtucker canoe trip up the river was excellent. Our guide Emma was a fountain of knowledge and her enthusiasm for the area was infectious. The scenery was spectacular and the bush tucker lunch was surprisingly delicious. Swimming in the river is completely safe as the sandbar across the entrance prevents any sharks getting into the river. We would thoroughly recommend this trip (especially if Emma is your guide).
Learnt about bush foods and had a good time canoeing down Margaret River. The food is good and the river is beautiful
This is a unique experience which delves into bush tucker and the surrounding environment. Our guide, Adam, was a very impressive young person with a wealth of knowledge and very pleasant demeanour. Totally recommend this tour.
This was a wonderful trip, surely very underrated. The Margaret River was lovely and the water pristine. We saw almost no development. The highlight was swimming in the river. The shore lunch was a surprise delight. Our guide Adam was perfect. Very friendly but helped us with no complaints if our canoes had an issue. He was also very knowledgeable about the history, flora and fauna of the river. Canoeing experience is not needed but you do need to get in and out of the canoe.
We had a great time. Emma the guide was so lovely & imparted her knowledge of the river, indigenous stories & foraging for native edible plants, she made the experience great! Lunch was so good, I will definitely be recommending to friends.
A very enjoyable day and very well organised. Guide was very knowledgeable and had a broad understanding of local flora and fauna She provided a vast collection of foods and berries for us to taste and served a memorable meal.of kangaroo, emu and crocodile plus various pesto to try. The canoe tripwas very educatio Al and a very pleasant experience. Would highly recommend this adventure and good value for money.
Great canoe trip down Margaret River lead by Emma. The bushtucker lunch provided the opportunity to sample crocodile, kangaroo, emu and a selection of locally foraged side dishes. We really enjoyed the whole experience!
This tour was awesome. Very informative. Marty our guide was so knowledgeable and we not only enjoyed the beautiful Margaret River at paddling pace we learnt plenty about the local area. The bush Tucker lunch was a lovely addition to the tour. Went with friends with their two girls (9 and 12) and we all enjoyed it greatly.
Brilliant tour , highly recommended , with bush tucker tasting at the outset , the canoe tour itself , a great lunch - who knew croc and emu tasted so good - kangaroo not so much though , and a look at the outside of ancient burial cave on the way back - big thanks to Adam the tour guide who made the day so interesting.
ABSOLUTELY 💯 recommend these guys !! We did BOTH the canoe & winery tour - on our weekend away to Margs ! The most fun way to explore / learn / laugh about all things local to the region - love the ‘natural / native’ touch ! Gregg was our tour guide on both occasions- his knowledge, experience & obvious passion for what he does made the experiences memorable & well worth it !! Thanks guys - will definitely share & spread the word !!! Amy & Mark 🐊🥂🇦🇺😍
We had a sensational time at Bushtucker Tours. The organisation was fantastic, from email correspondence to rescheduling our tour date, very organised, helpful and clear instructions to ensure a great time. The day itself was cold and windy, but despite the weather, Gregg was a fabulous tour guide who spoke a lot about the history of the place and Aboriginal culture and the stories behind them. Well informed and very scenic, the experience felt like it went above and beyond and we feel very lucky to have had him in our canoe. The tour was amazing and really added to my best friend's birthday holiday celebrations. Thank you so much! Highly recommend!!
Terrible communication. Got told I would find out the day before if the event was on or not.. were I had no communication the day behind me & partner planned to leave at 5am to get there for 9am.. for us to find out at 8am that the event was cancelled because no one had booked on!? Our whole weekend was booked around this event & that if this event was unavailable we would have left much later.. this in fact ruined 2 of our free days together. Poor communication, do better SOONER!
lovely morning on the river and then a delicious lunch of bush tucker. Lots of variety and all very tasty. Our guide Greg very knowledgeable and easy to chat too. we would highly recommend
Great experience with Marty who explained the history during the tour The food was very Aussie and delicious in great surroundings and bird life - we did see the ospreys during the tour too High recommended
Great tour around the Margaret river heads area by canoe. .the guide was very knowledgeable and knew interesting facts about the area . .the highlight was the native food for lunch, it was worth it just fur that
Just a terrific experience and a must do if you visit Margs. Marty was an amazing guide who really helped us capture an understanding of the magical nature of the river and wildlife. Lunch was incredible and really opened our eyes to the feast that exists all around us, wonderful natural flavours that we aim to bring into our everyday lifestyle from this point on. Thank you Bushtucker Tours!
Highly recommended. They accommodated us despite our last minute booking. Jasper, great tour guide. Beautiful scenery.
I strongly recommend this canoe tour. It’s fun, exciting, a lovely afternoon adventure. We had an amazing friendly tour guide named Jasper. I admire the passion he has for people. He made the whole tour fun. He is very knowledgeable of the history of Margaret River which he carefully explains throughout the tour. We also had a picnic where we got to try various native and exotic food. Jasper explained each of the dishes well. We had a friendly canoe race on the way back. My partner and I had smiles all throughout the tour. We will definitely be back with our other family members.
The tour along the River was great. A few mishaps prior, but the team were great at rectifying. Greg the tour guide was very knowledgeable of the history of Margaret river both in Australian and Aboriginal. In addition, to the native flower and fauna. It is a very pleasant and enjoyable activity to do. The delectable food provided was amazing, offering local bushtucker food. It is a sacred river to the aboriginals. Didn't see others tourist or locals swimming in this river. Through this tour you get the chance to swim in a magical river, as a one off time. I would highly recommend this activity, especially if it is your first time in Margs. Thank you Greg and team.
Amazing tour with Marty! Great physical activity with some nice historical stories touch. The Bushtucker pic Nic was also very special. Absolutely recommend this tour!
Our tour guide Marty had the perfect mix of humour and intellect, talking us through the history along the Margaret River and about all the trees and plants along the way. Everything from the experience of canoeing a boat, having a swim in the sun and trying new bush tucker cuisine. We had a great time would recommend and come again!!
Amazing experience. Would like thank Jasper the amazing tour guide and companion. 200% recommended - one our best life experience!
This was a great tour with Marty, though it was a windy day and canoeing was harder than expected. Loved the bush tucker lunch that was provided, lots to try.
Amazing way to spend the morning/afternoon. Beautiful nature, great food and incredible tour guides. Marty and Jasper, it was so great talking to you and listening to all you had to say about the culture and history of the region.
We had an awesome half day out on the river. Our guide was very knowledgeable, competent and supportive given our limited canoeing expertise. The bush tucker was great, we sampled lots of different types of food. Understanding local history was an added bonus
An incredible experience. The river is magical. Greg our guide has a unique storytelling ability, the food was unique bushtucker. The crocodile had been marinated and smoked and was incredible
Great half day tour with Greg. Great food, very educational and little healthy competition, Canada win !! Would recommend to anyone traveling to Margs.
We had a fun filled, informative day learn about the river, edible plants growing in the area and the story of how the region was settled The scenery and canoe tour was fantastic
