Had a great time at the Mammoth cave however there are 160 steps up hill to exit but worth the tour if you are fit

Mammoth Cave is a natural time capsule, nestled deep in the Margaret River Region, where ancient fossil remains of long-extinct Australian Megafauna were unearthed. Once home to giant animals that roamed the continent before their extinction around 46,000 years ago, the cave offers a rare glimpse into the distant past. Self-guided audio tours, available in English, French, German, Malay, and Mandarin, enable you to explore at your own pace, as you learn about the cave’s geological formations and fossil heritage.

Amazing experience and loved the self-guided audio tour
Great visit to Mammoth Caves. Really nice to walk through & learn about the caves. We really enjoyed it. There are quite a few stairs so if you have any issue with stairs maybe look into it first.
Was a great experience and with the audio tracks was very informative. The walk back to reception was good too.
This experience needs a certain level of fitness/mobility to traverse the stairs throughout the cave system. Mammoth Cave was amazing.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely beautiful experience! We visited Mammoth Cave while exploring the Margaret River region and it was definitely worth the trip. The cave itself is incredible — the formations are absolutely stunning and there is so much to look at as you make your way through. We really loved that it was self-guided, so we could take our time, stop for photos and just enjoy the experience without feeling rushed. The walk through the cave was beautiful, and coming out into the forest at the other end made it even better. There are quite a few stairs and a bit of walking involved, but we found it really enjoyable and all part of the adventure. Such a beautiful place and something completely different to do while visiting WA. We had an amazing time and would definitely recommend adding Mammoth Cave to your Margaret River trip! ❤️
Another great cave adventure. So different to the others in the area. Self guided tour that I could do at my own pace.
Excellent , great experience and interesting information from our guide!
A natural time capsule offering an opportunity to explore the cave at one's own pace. I choose to do the self guided tour which was easy to manage and very informative. Boardwalks and staircases lead you through the caves. Walking through the caves enormous icicle like stalactites hang from the ceiling while column like stalagmites rise from the ground. The limestone cave is about 500m long and 30m deep. Inside the cave it is remarkably cool and damp but with covered shoes manuvering over uneven terrain will be fine. Only the 160 stairs needed to be concured before exiting. Once outside the cave the trail leads into a forest of Karri Trees. The caves are breath taking and pictures don't do it justices
Stunning , exquisite caves . Good audio guide . Paths and staircases guide you through
I decided to visit Mammoth Cave and do the self-guided audio tour (rather than the tours at other caves) as my husband wasn’t so interested in visiting a cave. It was a great decision as we thoroughly enjoyed our visit - having the self guided audio tour meant you could go at your own pace and there wasn’t a lot of noise from a large tour group. I would often pause and just take in the beauty of it all. There was a bit of a climb up the steps coming out of the cave again but very manageable. We took the extended walking track back to the entry which we enjoyed
Amazing cave with stalagmites & stalactites. Beautiful to see. Not too many steps overall but walkways are narrow. Can be cold in spots so kids might need a jacket. We loved the self guided audio tour. Well worth a visit.
Even though the chamber of the cave was massive and very beautiful, it wasn't to big, it has very easy access, once inside there is a few stairs but you could view most of the cave by not having to go up them if you physically can't do it. It was 42 degrees the day we went so it was a nice cool change, We decided to exit the cave and walk the 160 stairs out side and then walked back to the start, it was hard, but we did have the option to walk back through the cave to the entrance to exit, which if you don't do well with heat and stairs I would recommend. It's also self guided with ear phones and a walk man type thing so your able to walk at your own pace which was nice. It took us about an hour from start to finish Would recommend
Beautiful experience, was great to do with the family in the outdoors. Well looked after and maintained.
Helpful staff. Self guided with very well functioning equipment. Great experience for sure . To understand more about the caves formation. Can get slippery so good gripped shoes is important. The light effects are very good inside. Gives the complete feeling of warmth and vintage. The gift shops wouldn’t have any food . Only drinks and ice-creams. So don’t turn up hungry . Clean washrooms . Enjoy the experience.
As part of our south west road trip we wanted to see some of the magnificent caves WA has to offer. After grabbing a little info at the Margaret River Information Centre, we rocked (pun intended) up at the cave mid week about 10:30am. Suitable covered shoes (not sketchers, we’re not in that age bracket yet) and clothing you’d go for a walk in We chose to do the self guided (headphones etc) tour costing $25 per person. This money goes back into the preservation and up keep of the caves in the area. About 4 or 5 I think. After a quick loo stop we’re off. There are about 15 or so points of interest on the self guided tour. All you have to do is punch in the 3 digit number on the signs in the cave. Easy. First stop. Press 100 on your recorder doovilacky and you’ll hear a bit of stuff about where to go, what to do etc. Whilst the self guided tour was informative enough. It really wasn’t for me. Others in our party enjoyed it, so I guess sit down to a choice thing. Caves are amazing. Mammoth cave is one of the easiest to navigate, so if fitness is an issue, maybe a little prep work before you go. Once you finish there’s about 100 plus steps to the exit and you get the choice of a short walk back to the main office or the longer walk which takes in all the magnificent flora in the immediate area. It’s only about a 20 walk. Definitely worth it Can’t fault the views, can’t fault the location. Got some amazing shots. Highly recommend you hit up at least one if not all the caves in the south west. You won’t regret these sites.
We had a 1030am booking but went on an earlier session at 10am and was the perfect time! It was not crowded, not noisy and very easy to navigate! The ladies in the shop were very friendly and we were so happy that we did it! Apart from the cave itself, the surrounding brightly coloured wild flowers made the experience amazing!
Interesting. Very fascinating. Lots of facts and history. Well maintained. Easy walking on a board walk. Will do it again.
Wonderful experience. The self-guided talk was really interesting and full of information. The lighting was great & helped with photography. Easy to walk even with 100 steps at the end.
Its an easy, casual way to walk through the cave and admire its grandeur. Listening to the audio guide, learning about the cave discovery and ita history, you can take as long as you want to learn about the Caves secrets and admire their incredible natural wonder. Great value for money. Not too difficult to navigate your way around. Suitable for all levels of fitness but not suitable for wheelchairs.
The cave was quite fascinating and actually quite large. The tour is well maintained and clean ( unlike many cave tours I have been on before) We had a great tour. Do note that there are maybe 200 steps of climbing at the end of the tour (in case you need to do some planning for the very young/ elderly)
What a place, absolutely huge. It was great having the audio guide. You can see most of it without climbing too many stairs… if you continue onto the end though there are stairs. Facilities great and clean. Would definitely recommend
I loved the audio guides we were given and I also took a lot of photos to ahow to my friends. I would recommend you to go to Mammoth Cave.
Very impressive cave system with a self guided tour with headset commentary. Great experience. Way bigger than expected.
We were very glad that we had booked online because there were lots of people there during school holidays. The cave was indeed mammoth with many steps so might be suitable for all. We are an older couple and didn't have too much trouble but some would. We booked for 11:30 but got in earlier so it is best to book ahead and be there ahead of time.
Amazing caves, huge cavern with so many formations. The audio guide was pitched perfectly with concise scientific information and interesting content, without being overloaded. Nice leafy walk to exit the cave
The name Mammoth was applied to indicate its se. It is in good condition with secure walkways and steps/stairs but is a typical limestone cave. The audio tour was informative.
Very extensive caves with well maintained paths, good lighting and informative signs. Interesting animal fossils!!
What a wonderful natural phenomenon. The self-guided tour was very informative and had options for additional commentary. Lots and LOTS of steps! Thankfully it is cool in the cave. We really enjoyed this tour and highly recommend it.
Very well organised. Excellent staff. The audio tour was very informative. highly recommended……………..
Incredible cave walk on the self guided audio tour!!! The cave itself is huge inside and features rich history and grand views. The long walk back to the visitor centre is a beautiful stroll through some giant trees - perfect little slice of natural beauty of the south west corner of wa!
An impressive cave with a easy to handle audio guide - not too short or overly detailed. Easy enough for a 6-year old to handle. The walk back was lovely - we took the longer route back to the center via a small brook crossing. Child- and family-friendly, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace. The experience took about an hour. Highly recommend for families with younger kids who may want to explore at your own pace.
An impressively large cave with a good audio guide. Not too short and too long and over informative especially as more info was available should you have need for it. The walk wasn't too long even though we took the slightly longer way back to the centre though it was obviously not for people in wheelchairs. The artefacts inside the cave were impressive.
We had a great time exploring Mammoth Cave together. The sales girls were very clear with their instructions on how it all worked, what to do and where to go. The self guided audio tour was very informative and fun to listen to while walking around in the cave. The gift shop had some very lovely items in there and I really liked getting a stamped coin as a token of the experience. I'm excited to do another one in the same way, I found the audio tour part an incredible feature I hadn't used before. Well worth the cost.
Excellent cave, friendly staff at check in, easy to navigate with self guided audio quite a few stairs but not overly taxing, cave itself better appreciated for its size rather than beauty but still very impressive lovely little forest walk on exiting back to kiosk, would recommend.
Lovely walk and interesting self guided tour. Saw some lovely sights and really enjoyed the walk around the cave area. Tour only took around 20-30 mins for me on my own and listening to all audios but could make it longer if needed
Was great to just wander through the cave at your own pace listening to the info provided. Could have had a sign in the cave to point out the 'zygomaturus' jawbone. We missed seeing it. Loved the walk through the trees back to the visitors centre. The ranger allowed us to go through as soon as she opened - a bonus.
This was a perfect activity on a wet day as there's only a short walk from the ticket office to the cave entrance. There are about 200 steps to climb up and down; we didn't take the exit that includes more steps and a walk through the bush but choose to walk back the way we came in.
Was a good self paced tour. I loved how they had the headphones so you can listen to the history at each step. Staff were friendly and the caves took about an hour so quite worth the $25.
A lovely way to cool off on a hot day. The audio was good. The steps out were a challenge but I made it. It wasn't essential and were warned by the staff
I've seen many caves, most of them are memorable. hut all of them are different. Mammoth Cave has surprised and delighted me.
This was a totally awesome cave to visit. It was breathtakingly beautiful and so unique. Not hard to walk, although there are stairs to traverse, you can take your time to climb them and hand rails help. I would highly recommend this experience. The audio guide is helpful to your understanding of the cave and its fossils. There is a gentle bush walk at the end.
Mammoth cave was stunning and just amazing. The self guided tour was a great way to see the cave and get lots of information. We were there for about an hour. Parking is easy and the staff were really friendly and helpful
Really good! Self paced with good audio guide. Easy path to follow. Not too many steps. Good price. Easy to book online. Recommend.
To find the Mammoth Caves in Margaret River was very easy - great signage - and just off the main road. The walk through with the audio tour was very informative but could be challenging to those with any mobility issues.
This was quite an easy cave to examine and one we hadn't seen before. The fossils were stunning and the formations are simply beautiful. The staff were very helpful and engaged in a but of humour with us as well. We took the long walk back as recommended and it was delightful being among such tall timbers
Beautiful cave! The self guided tour was a great feature. The information was presented really well and the above ground walk was also great. Would definitely recommend!
This is a great self guided tour of the cave. With your MP 3 player providing the commentary along the way, you can go at your own pace. This is quite an accessible cave.. The cave itself is quite spectacular and I wound recommend a visit.
This is a must see attraction, spectacular. Not hard to do. The guided headset tour was interesting and well worth it.
WA does a fantastic job in catering to visitors of all abilities in it's attractions. Mammoth Cave is such an example, with accessibility into the first chamber by wheelchair, followed by steps of an easy height and safety railings for those more mobile. The self guided commentary on a portable device was easy to navigate and was very informative. The lighting and highlighting of natural features was commendable making it all a very enjoyable experience.
