UPDATE: After receiving this managers response full of lies... I will say this. Stay away from this hotel. I've stayed at this hotel several times over the years, and unfortunately it feels like the overall experience has declined with each visit. One of the biggest disappointments was that Expedia Gold status didn't seem to provide any recognition or benefits. During a previous stay two years ago, the staff welcomed us back, acknowledged our Gold membership, and even surprised us with a fruit plate since we don't drink alcohol. Those small gestures made us feel valued as returning guests. This time, the check-in experience was simply, "Give us your card and passport," with no acknowledgment of our loyalty or even a warm welcome. The room also had a few maintenance issues. The shower drain barely worked, and the room was extremely hot when we checked in, feeling more like a sauna than a comfortable hotel room. There are also a few things prospective guests should know before booking. The hotel does not provide washcloths, which may be surprising for some travelers. There are no elevators anywhere on the property, and many of the rooms are separated from the restaurant, pool, and spa by an extremely steep hill. If you have mobility concerns or simply don't want to make that climb several times a day, this is something to keep in mind. Most disappointing, however, was the customer service. The front desk staff came across as uninterested and as though they didn't enjoy their jobs. While everyone has difficult days, the overall atmosphere felt much less welcoming than on our previous visits. To end on a positive note, the breakfast buffet is one of the hotel's strengths. There is a wide variety of options each morning, and as a vegetarian I found there were plenty of choices available. The quality and selection at breakfast were consistently good and definitely one of the highlights of our stay. Overall, this property used to be one of my favorite places to stay, which is why this visit was especially disappointing. I truly hope management can restore the level of hospitality, recognition, and attention to detail that made this hotel stand out in the past. With some improvements to customer service and maintenance, I believe it could once again be the excellent hotel it used to be.

A very pretty hotel! The restaurant was pricy but very good. The pool was gorgeous and had a beautiful view! The thing I love most about this place was the wildlife, we saw many monkeys close up and some other cool animals like toucans! There is a very steep hill though, but we were offered a ride on the golf cart. There’s also a short walk to the beach which is gorgeous! The waves are calm and the view is stunning! We loved this place a lot!

Our family had an amazing stay at Shana by the Beach Hotel in Costa Rica! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful experience. The rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable, with beautiful views of the surrounding rainforest and ocean. The pools were fantastic, and the easy access to the beach made it perfect for our family. We loved the monkeys visitevery morning, and hearing tropical birds, it truly felt like a unique Costa Rican experience. The breakfast was delicious with plenty of options for both adults and kids, and the restaurant served great food throughout our stay. The location was ideal for exploring Manuel Antonio while still offering a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. We couldn't have asked for a better family vacation. We highly recommend Shana by the Beach Hotel to anyone visiting Costa Rica and would absolutely stay here again!

A beautiful resort with amazing views and great access to a small beach. Magical wildlife and immersion into the rainforest. Highlight was the spa, we did a couples massage which was an amazing time with experienced hands. Rooms were huge. We ordered room service one day and the food was quite good as fast. Breakfast also amazing. I think some of the property and pool area likely due for maintenance/renovations.
