Generally the rooms looked good unfortunately for us our allocated room was in a corridor leading to the outdoor bar which could be noisy. If there was a band on in the bar in the evening it was horrendous noise in the room. Breakfast was good and choosing rooms away from the outside bar would be recommended. Hotel was scrupulously clean and public areas very well kept.

Was lovely hotel. Sadly we were given a room so close to the entertainment we had no sleep all week. Asked to be moved but they said no rooms available. Doors being slammed shut from people from other rooms. Restaurant staff were very welcoming food was lovely. Hotel staff not so welcoming. Room needs update not clean dirty bathroom. Air con wasn't very good also very noisy. Also 5 cats living in the ground sat on sun loungers. Walking around tables outside whilst having dinner. Staff didn't try to move them away. Spoilt my holiday as im terrified of cats. Housekeeping not the best didn't replace towels and always forgot to leave toilet paper. Ashame as this hotel is 4 star. Was lovely areas in hotel itself. Just Ashame about the room., and not very helpful reception staff.
Meal left for us at 1am which was a lovely touch. All staff lovely Great location and food was great witg something different every night. Locked room to leave luggage and free towels (pay deposit and returned) There is building going on at the back which was outside our room but we never heard them and still had amazing view. Guaranteed sun beds, this made it. Any time of day. Loved it here and central to everything
The positive: The ALAY is a lovely hotel and the location is absolutely superb. The pool was clean and loungers area too. Food + drink where very reasonable for a hotel pricing and the food itself was delicious. The negative: The staff at the reception are amongst the rudest most unpleasant staff I have ever come across. We arrived on a late flight and when we checked in where met with someone who looked as though he couldn’t have wanted to be there any less. He explained where our room was and when I asked him to repeat as I was just exhausted and didn’t quite hear I got a snarky “as I have literally just said to you” The following morning we were woken up to the sound of a building site right outside of our room with power tools and machinery running at 7am. I went to the front desk to ask if it was possible to have a room change as we didn’t not pay this money to be woken up to a building site on holiday. The answer was a swift “no, you can pay for a room upgrade”???? Not even an apology or any form of explanation or even notice our room was facing a building site just the smartarse answer and when I explained AGAIN the volume is too loud in the mornings got a “so what” answer. We genuinely contemplated booking another hotel and leaving at this point. On the 3rd day we asked if it was possible to have a new set of towels sent to our room as we had used our towels and wanted fresh ones to use by the pool. “Jesus” the guy at the counter was the most arrogant unhelpful person I’ve ever come across and replied to this request with “as I explained to you at check in , the white towels are for rooms and blue towels cost €10 per person to rent”. We told him he did NOT check us in and asked what is he talking about because none of this was explained to us and got a “well this is how it is” with the hands up movement of someone who just didn’t care then said “do you want it or not” we said no thank you but we would like fresh towels as requested for the room and he said “I will do this ON THIS ONE OCCASION BUT THIS IS NOT HOW IT WORKS”, the towels never even arrived to our room. Honestly for an adults only 4* hotel I expected much better service from the front of house staff. Pure arrogant rudeness and based on them alone I would not return to hotel ALAY.
We had a lovely weeks holiday here, we were three adult couples (family) and found the position of the hotel was fabulous for all that Benelmadena has to offer, which is a lot! We particularly liked being so close to the marina complex with its many bars and restaurants. The hotel itself was everything we were expecting with reasonable rooms, plenty of sun beds and a good bar offering, the breakfast was perfectly adequate and catered for a range of tastes, we didn’t have an evening meal so can’t really comment but from what we saw €15 seemed a good deal! We would definitely return but may look for somewhere close that had a larger swimming pool, the upper one was too shallow for anything other than a wallow and the lower one was soon overcrowded at busy times, nothing to really moan about though!
