Great commentary. It was very much worth hearing some facts as you traveled the road. No getting lost and plenty of options. good audio quality.

Who doesn't love a lighthouse! Established in 1858, this is the only lighthouse on Mount Desert Island and one of the most photographed along the Maine Coast. If we can snag a parking space, let's take a walk around this handsome light and take some pics. Unfortunately, neither the tower or keeper's house are open to the public, but we can still enjoy it from the outside.
One of the high points, literally and figuratively, of our journey is Cadillac Mountain. Its 1,530-foot summit is the highest along the North Atlantic Seaboard. In the 1880s we could have ridden a cog railway to Cadillac's summit. These days, we can drive, hike, or bike - but we do need a reservation to drive our car on the Cadillac Mountain Road.
Now what is a carriage road? As the name suggests they are designed for horse-drawn carriage rides, and Acadia's 16-foot wide carriage roads are considered the best example in the country of broken stone roads. We can thank summer resident John D. Rockefeller Jr for the 45 miles of these roads within the park, and to this day we can tour Acadia's carriage roads aboard a horse-drawn carriage ride. Hiking the Carriage Road is very enjoyable and bicycles are welcome on many of them too.
Feasting on tea and popovers with jam on the lawn of the Jordan Pond House has been a tradition for more than a century. The original, rustic teahouse was built in 1947 was a treasure and built to capture the views down the length of Jordan Pond to the 'Bubbles'. If there is a wait for a table on the lawn, the nearby nature trails are highly recommended.
The 27-mile Park Loop Road around is the must-do activity for any visit to Acadia. The drive itself is picturesque, and equally importantly it connects all of the best places to see and things to do on the eastern side of the island. If you have 2 days, it's best to dedicate one full day to the Park Loop Road. A National Park pass is required and can be purchased and the Sand Beach Entrance Station or any visitor center. Just keep in mind that while there are many parking lots, parking is also permitted the right-hand lane unless posted otherwise.
Is Acadia's only "sandy" beach really sand? You'll find out - and this beach is an absolute visual gem. If you head to the beach to check out the sand, go ahead, dip your toes in the frigid water, if you dare; it rarely gets warmer than 55 degrees. And even if you're not up for a dip, this is a perfect start location to hike the Great Head for superb views, or set out on the easy Ocean Path to amazing coastline coves and cliffs.
Many of Maine's beaches are covered with cobblestones, but this coastline is unique. We can thank powerful ocean storms for creating the massive natural seawall that gives this area of the park its name. The wall comprises stone cobbles kicked up during storms, carried by waves and tides and piled on the shore. It feels far more raw and remote on this side of the island and it's a favorite area for birdwatchers, who sometimes find themselves enjoying a bonanza of interesting sightings.
Often referred to as the "Heart of Acadia", this is a great place to learn about the park's natural and cultural history. Pop into the Nature Center to learn more about the animals and plant life, or see more than 400 indigenous wildflower species at the Wild Gardens of Acadia. There's also some lovely nature strolls, a spring house, and even a small museum with an archeological artifacts dating back as far as 11,000 years.
Formed during the last glacial event, this large, deep body of water almost - almost, cuts Mount Desert Island right in half. Our drive will follow all the way around the sound and as we go we'll have many peaceful water views, hiking opportunities and visit what is claimed to be Maine's most photographed bridge.
Created by erosion and weathering, when waves enter the crevice and then the chamber, the water is sprayed up as high as 40 feet with a thunderous roar: "I am Thunder Hole!!!!" The effect is strongest within a couple of hours of high tide, and when the waves are larger.

The guide was really great once we figured out how to use it. We struggled to find how to start the trip and where.
Great App to learn about Acadia NP. It felt like the narrator was in the car with us, showing us where to stop, history about the park, added information about lobstering and geology, and even places to eat. When we made a wrong turn it let us know by saying, “ whoops a doozy. It seems like you made a wrong turn.” and when we got right on the path again, it picked us up and continued the narration. Wonderful app I need to buy this for other national parks and places of interest that our well family is planning to travel. An inexpensive way to see the park and it’s a lifetime membership so you can use it whenever you want and as many times as you want.
Start with the shorter tour available, thats the main kne for the Park. If you have the time, the longer tour takes you all around the island, beyond the main attractions of the tour.
Excellent audio tour. Helped us get more out of our Acadia National Park visit. Highly recommend.
A great experience great information highly recommend
Used it for second loop second day of my visit and worked flawlessly. Highly recommend doing the flying mountain stop. Definitely going to use GuideAlong for other routes in the future.
This guide was fantastic for navigating Acadia. It gave us useful info about trails and stops along the way. I would definitely use it again!
Great tour. Very helpful as we drove through the park. There were many stops we would never have seen without it.
Great option for travelers with mobility restrictions! Due to health issues, we were unable to hike any of the trails. This tour was a really fun way to experience the park and know what was worth getting out of the car for and where exactly to do it. We were able to see the highlights in a very manageable way on our own schedule. We truly enjoyed the narration and learned a lot about the history of the park in the process. Once the tour was downloaded it was very easy to use and, because it shows you exactly where you are in relation to the narration markers, we could be certain that it was working and we weren’t missing anything. 10/10!
I highly recommend this. Big time. I would say it is would be good if you have addresses for starts but otherwise it wasn’t bad figuring it out. Also if it could work on my car screen like maps that would be cool. But it’s still a 10 out of 10
Perfect for my trip to Acadia. It was a great value and very informative
This audio guide was awesome! It was able to pin point exactly where we were by our GPS after downloading prior to heading to the park.
It was a great experience Very easy to follow and get around We all enjoyed it
Fantastic and so worth it. So many interesting facts; the host had a great personality and enjoyed immensely. Spent 4.5 in car and loved every moment.
We have used Guide Along for many years and have always felt it gave us information and stories we would have never picked up on our own.
Worth $100 easy. Great way to see the park and learn so much more than expected. Great narrator with excellent suggestions. Loved the car museum on the 'quiet side'.
Go early to the park gets very busy .enjoyed Bass lighthouse, Jordan pond, Sand beach and Cadillac mountain
The audio kept up with us and told interesting stories. A couple of sites we might have missed without it.
This audio tour was absolutely perfect. We learned so much driving around the park and found some hidden spots that took us away from the crowds. For example - we found the surveyed peak of a summit instead of where everyone assumed the summit was and we found a lesser known beach that we were able to enjoy as a family away from the crowds - all from things mentioned in the audio tour. It was worth every penny.
I'm a fairly technical senior but I found it a little user unfriendly for booking on my PC. It was not abundantly clear that I was required to get my voucher on my iPhone instead of my PC. It required a call to the vendors customer service.
The GuideAlong guide for Arcadia was very informative and helpful as there were some road detours which it took into account. It helped fill in some historical information about the park as well as pointing out all points of interest and giving further information on those points of interest. It was a worthwhile investment.
Worked great. Very informative. Well organized.
Very informative and entertaining. Gives options as to where to begin and picks up easily if you make a detour.
A delightful and entertaining voice. Kept us entertained. It made driving around the park much more interesting. Team has 20.
This was a spur of the moment decision, and we did the second loop that took us around the whole of the island. Informative and easy to use, with a fun “guide.” I’m looking forward to doing more of these tours!
It was amazing! Loved hearing the narration and learning about each spot. Also loved that we weren’t rushed and could stop where we wanted to and skip where we wanted to! Would highly recommend!
This is an awesome tour! So good we bought two more for our trip through New Hampshire and Vermont. Lots of information and entertaining
The tour guidance was a lot better than I expected, well worth the small amount we paid for the audio. Voice was very clear, popped up at the right ime as we passed each point. The idea of enjoying learning about the park in the priviacy of our car was a great way to do a quick tour of the area when we had only one day to drive around.
This inexpensive program lets you tour independently at your own pace. It is accurate and the narrator’s stories make the information more relatable and interesting.
All of us enjoyed the narration. Interesting stories about Acadia park and its history. Will use the app at other national parks
Thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Bought it for the Acadia loop but drove both loops. Loved the second loop, Mount Desert Island, even more than Acadia NP. Interesting stories, spot-on food recommendations (loved Abel's for lobster). Downloaded the app and tour before leaving home, worked seamlessly, picked us up as soon as we got to Hull's Cove. GPS was great, comments were always perfectly timed with the drive. Linked to the vehicle by Bluetooth, everyone in the vehicle heard the commentary.
Location services inconsistent inside park. Had to manually restart app multiple times. Information good when worked . Not as reliable as other apps I have used in past.
Great app with a very entertaining narrator. We downloaded the app and it worked on our Apple Car Play and utilized GPS through out the two loops. The narrator would begin within plenty of time of turns and stops and offered great suggestions of what to expect. Made navigating busy weekend on the Island so much more manageable. Our favorite part was the ‘quieter loop’ which took you to the other parts of the island. We even utilized the app for finding places while not on the tour loop. Best 20 bucks we spent at Bar Harbor.
The self guided tour was awesome! So much information provided and going at your own pace was priceless. Will do these tours for other parks in the future!
I don’t know if the issue was with Trip Advisor or the actual vendor. We couldn’t access our tickets with the mysterious “redemption code” that wasn’t found in any email or text. I received a refund. I won’t be purchasing anything though TA again.
We started our touring by driving the park loop and listening to the tour. Any time we stopped, we checked to see if there was an audio about the stop. A nice intro to all of our explorations!
The app is not very easy to navigate. Commentary was very good and informative, however the map was not easy to use. It took several tries to get the app to work.
Should have done this earlier in our stay, had some great pointers for places to check out. It was fun and entertaining, kids even asked to do it more.
Good way to orient us to park and very convenient. We enjoyed the information. Entertaining narrator. Ability to turn off and on perfect.
We enjoyed and learned useful information about Acadia Park. I wish we had done it on our first day: It would have helped us better understand how to move around the park!
When planning consider the crowds along with sea fog. We didn't take this into consideration and was quite disappointed that Acadia was so crowded there was no where to park for the scenic areas. Not to mention "scenic" was not really visible due to sea fog. We do understand this could happen, just on limited time and couldn't hang around and wait.
Download the tour before you get there. Once you start you lose the signal and can’t download it. We had started up the mountain before we realized that
Great voice to listen to, good facts. Helped with good stops, things to try. How the hikes were. Would purchase this again to save on an expensive tour.
Would not connect through blue tooth in car. Phone connects seamless. Listen through phone. I would have loved a connection/information when out of the car visiting the top of Cadillac mountain. Information provided along the car portion was interesting and helpful. Worth $20 bucks.
It takes forever to download. App won't open & start working. Waste of my travel time. Am I going to sit there & wait for it to work? Rather keep moving.
This was a wonderful guide. It really helped us explore extra parts of the islands we wouldn’t have. It was nice because the weather was not spectacular so we were happy to see some things as the typical places to visit, you couldn’t see anything due to the fog.
We learned so much more by listening to this while driving through the park. The narrator was interesting and funny. We appreciated the humor.
The narrator was informative and entertaining. The app knew our location and notified us perfectly when sites were approaching. Easy to use, overall really pleased with the app.
Great value for the money. The audio was great- gave interesting facts about Acadia National Park while also providing accurate driving directions. It was so nice to be able to tour the park at our own pace. We were traveling with three children and this was so convenient to be able to spend a lot of time at the places they enjoyed and move on quickly from areas that we weren't as interested in or were maybe too difficult for the kids to hike. The navigation worked perfectly even when we lost cell service. Highly recommend.
