We had a great time on this tour. We had the best guide, Pete. He was friendly, informative, and just really seemed to enjoy leading this tour. All of the stops and food were amazing. You will not leave this tour hungry. It was a great way to spend some time in Portland. I highly recommend it.

Our culinary tour was fantastic. We had excellent food and learned quite a bit about the Old Port area. Our guide, Ray, was an amazing wealth of knowledge and truly loves Portland. We will be back! This was a perfect way to spend a half day. We highly recommend it!
I had taken a similar tour by the same company in Bar Harbor and this was highly recc by others on that tour. They have the best guides who make the trip laid back and flexible to everyone on it. They also make lots of sugg for things to do later after the tour is over. Will always do one of these 😀
This tour was the perfect combination of history and food. Our guide Chuck was very personable, very knowledgeable and went out of his way to make sure all of our questions were answered. Needless to say the food was terrific
Anne was fantastic! She had great stories, told funny jokes, and was so knowledgeable. The food stops are delish!
We enjoyed every stop. An easy walk, lots of history, with a local guide. I don't eat chowder, but others in our group ate at multiple places during our week and declared this the best chowder with the most clams/seafood. Well-curated with lots of pivots for those with allergies/dietary challenges. Recommend.
Good thing that I am loose with my money while on vacation 😆
This was a great tour, although we unfortunately had to leave before the lobster roll! Our tour guide was great. She was very friendly and had so much to tell us about Portland's history, including the life of fisherman as well as other townsfolk. We were able to enjoy two stops out of four or five, and the food was delicious. The group was about 10 people, and we had the opportunity to sit at some famous restaurants and get to know the other travelers. We had to leave early because I had failed to note the early cruise departure when I booked the food tour. This is an excellent tour for foodies and all those who love seafood.
This was a great taste of the Portland classics! Pete was a wonderful guide and shared his love for Maine and its food. Portions were full sized and a great variety. The Port town area is a good area to walk around to burn off all you ate!
Lots of food! Wonderful experience. Timothy was exceptional! Very knowledgeable and personable. Being from a landlocked state (Oklahoma) we thoroughly enjoyed it.
We have been on a lot of food tours and this was one of the best. It was Indigenous People Day and Ray, our host, did an amazing job of explaining the important role they played in our foods and lives. He was a wealth of information. Aside from the interesting facts we were given, the food was excellent. We had haddock tacos, chowder, lobster rolls, artisanal chocolates and gelato. Each stop was well planned and chosen with care and knowledge. We also toured the fish market. It was a morning well spent.
Ray was an amazing tour guide. Not only did we eat delicious food, he learned a lot about Portland’s history. He took us to restaurants that some may overlook (hidden gems of Portland) and the food was incredible. It’s not a hard walk at all either. Would definitely do this tour again
Great overview of the Portland food scene with plenty of historical background. Tour guide was very well informed entertaining.
Timothy was excellent! We had a fish taco, lobster roll, Gelato, chocolate truffle, and clam chowder. It is enough to fill you up for lunch. We also got dome great history about Maine.
Our food tour with Timothy was great! He was fun and informative and kept us entertained. As a lifelong Mainer he had tons of great stories.
Come ready to eat tour guides were great and selection of food was spot on. Had a great time. Completely recommend for a taste of Portland.
It was a great experience with nice history of Portland and great information on places to visit in Maine.
Great time with Ray and the group. Excellent history lesson and good eating!
Such a great experience! Chuck was the best tour guide. Had so much to talk about and all super informative. Super fun and of course great food. Definitely make sure you ask for Chuck.
Don’t eat a big breakfast before this excursion. There’s plenty to eat, and even beer to drink. Timothy did a great job narrating.
Fun tour - great food! Timothy was very knowledgeable and shared lots of entertaining facts about Portland, the dining scene and, of course, lobsters
It was presented by an historian. He was a great advocate for this town and the locavore nature of the restaurants. He kept it fun, interesting and delicious!
This was one of the more disappointing food tours I have ever taken. In the past, I have participated in tours where we did a lot of walking and really got a feel for the area. On this tour, we probably walked a total of three blocks. There was a lot of stopping and listening for long periods of time. Furthermore, I thought the food tastings were mediocre. This tour could have easily been paired down to two hours, instead of three. It was too long and just average for the high price. The guide, however, was very sweet and knowledgeable.
Our guide, Ray, was not only passionate about local Portland culture but also very knowledgeable about the area. You get a wonderful sampling of some of the best the area has to offer with informative and fun insights as well. Don’t miss this opportunity!
Ray was exceptionally knowledgeable! Very engaging and educational experience. The food was excellent!
We truly enjoyed the food/beer and Ray’s extensive knowledge of Portland and its history. We were fortunate to have a great group of folks in our well.
Excellent choice of local foods and our guide Chuck was great at telling us the history of the area. The group size was good and not overcrowded.
Great tour. Host talked a lot, which was both good and bad. We got a lot of history about Portland. The food stops were good.
Superb! Ray was our guide and is very well versed in the local food culture. He knows his stuff and where all the great food is located around Portland. Our first stop was Andy’s Old Port Pub where we enjoyed Haddock tacos and their house made beer. Excellent fresh fish! We then stopped for some, what else, chowder at Gilbert’s Chowder House. I enjoyed the seafood chowder, while my wife took in the chicken corn chowder. (BTW, if anyone in your party doesn’t like seafood, let the tour know in advance and they will work to accommodate. We didn’t know this was an option but my wife took it like a champ letting me enjoy the seafood). The chowder was the best I’d ever had. We then went to Rigby Yard and had lobster rolls. Yes they were amazing! We stopped by Dean’s Sweets for a couple of chocolates and topped it off with gelato at Gelato Fiasco. Each stop was amazing and had its own unique offering. Ray made the day with his knowledge of the area, the local fare and industry. We could not have asked for a better tour.
Excellent food and outstanding guides.
While each tour may differ, we had Chuck who took us on an amazing tour. No matter where you stop, you are going to have some incredible food. For us, the five stops were: Andy's Pub with haddock tacos, Gilbert's Chowder House with (you guessed it) chowders (the blueberry ale is optional at this stop - but not really - you should definitely order it even though it costs extra here), then Gritty's with a delightful lobster roll, followed by Dean's Sweets for 2 truffle selections (my husband tried the Moxy - you should too), and finally Gelato Fiasco (we highly recommend the blueberry crisp and Sweet Resurgam as your two choices). Not only does this tour highlight the incredible food scene in Portland, you also get a healthy dose dose of history and culture. Not only will you enjoy the tour, you should ask for suggestions of places to visit and food establishments to sample all around Maine, because our guide Chuck was chock-full of fantastic ideas. It was actually a little hilarious since we kept running into other people from our tour as we went to other area attractions over the next day.
Wonderful tour! So much local information and history, on top of some really amazing food. Tim was our guide and we enjoyed every minute (and every bite) of our tour!
The tour guide Timothy provided a good amount of interesting information about the area. The food was good but definitely not worth the money spent. I could have had 2 very nice dinners for two for the price of this tour.
Timothy was a great tour guide and knew so much about Portland. He was engaging and interesting. Learned so much about the city and the food was delicious and very filling.
Pete was a wonderful guide. He was very knowledgeable on the history of Portland, and made the tour very interesting. The food was delicious and great portions. We did this on our first day on Portland and it was a great way to get a lay of the land, and get ideas for the rest of our trip. Would definitely recommend!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Foodie Tour Worth Every Step! Timothy delivered one of the best guided experiences we’ve ever had. His blend of historical storytelling and local insider knowledge made the city come alive in a way that felt both authentic and exciting. Every stop was thoughtfully chosen, every bite had a story, and Timothy kept the entire group engaged with his warm personality and sharp wit. He struck the perfect balance between fun, food, and fascinating context — the kind of guide who makes you feel like you’re exploring with a friend who just happens to know everything about the area. If you’re looking for a tour that’s flavorful, memorable, and genuinely enriching, this is it. Highly recommend — Timothy is outstanding.
The tour was awesome!! Ray our guide provided so much information about the food industry in Portland Maine. The tastings were exceptional and we would not change a thing. We highly recommend this tour and Ray as your guide.
We had a great time on the food tour! Yanni was great and very knowledgeable! The food at each place was great especially the chowder and lobster roll!! Highly recommend this tour.
Had a fantastic tour with Ray in early August. Our tour sampled five Portland foodie favorites - seafood tacos, chowder, of course a lobster roll, and two desserts. Along the way Ray shared with us a lot of information about the history of the city - both culinary and not - and gave a lot of recommendations for other food-centric things to do while we were in town. Although Portland was struggling through a heat wave (and it was VERY hot outside), the tour was a great experience. Highly recommend if your trip to Portland is at all food-centric or food-related.
Great tour with Ray. He is passionate about the food scene in Portland. Lots of interesting facts and excellent food samples.
Excellent food options and you will not leave hungry. Really enjoyed the tour and Chuck was knowledgeable about the area and willing to share personal experiences.
We had a great time with Chuck as our guide. He told us so many things about the area and the facts about Maine. The food we had was so good! Loved the beer at Andy’s and the taco there. We went back to J’s Oysters for dinner and the food there was not desirable…should have listened for other places Chuck recommended.
We loved our Old Port Culinary tour! Anne was a delightful tour guide with a lot of info on Portland and the surrounding areas. The food was delicious! Thank you for a great experience!
History with good food At the end of the tour we were each handed a card with the tour info and suggested minimum tip of $29 for each person. Tipping in America has gotten out of hand in my opinion
Had high hopes but was quickly disappointed. It was not really a walking tour since all of the food stops were really close to each other. Our guide spent a good deal of time speaking more about his personal life than about the tour and history. Food choices were just alright. First stop was fish tacos which lacked flavor and were underwhelming. We also went to a chocolate store and a gelato shop. Both of these stops were good, but you could have just gone on your own and saved money. The biggest highlight my wife was looking forward to was the lobster roll. The restaurant we went to for the roll was not known for its seafood so it was not surprising that the lobster roll was a disappointment. It was clear the tour company chose this location because of its alcoholic beverages and not because of the quality of the food. We expected a better lobster roll since Portland is known for having great lobster dishes. Well, live and learn. On a positive note the chowder stop was good. Research thoroughly before booking and see if the foods being offered are what you would usually eat.
Great tour! We really enjoyed the tastings as every stop and the guide’s love of local foodie culture and history rounded out the experience perfectly.
Ray was a great tour guide, and definitely gave us an authentic experience! The exposure to the different chowders (seafood chowder was incredible!) and the lobster roll with seasonal beer were fantastic. I also love a great dessert, and we had a few. Thanks Ray for the great Portland history and food origin stories!
What a wonderful tour! We learned amazing trivia about Portland from Anne, and I had some of the best, freshest seafood while on the tour. Along with the food, the restaurants included nonalcoholic and some alcoholic drinks, too.
We truly enjoyed our tour guide and all of the food offerings we received. It was really nice to be with a whole group of people that enjoy food as much as we do.
Just finished the Portland food tour with Timothy. Every stop was top notch with 3 excellent food stops and accompanying drink. Topped off with a chocolate store and ice cream. Timothy gave us great history and insight into Portland, Maine’s coastline, and the lobster and fishing industry. Highly recommend.
