Itinerary
We’ll begin our tour in the heart of Boothbay Harbor at the town pier with beautiful harbor views of schooners, lobster boats, super yachts, and the harbor’s east side working waterfront. This town has always been a seafaring place, home to sailors and sea captains, fisherman, ship builders, and pirates!
What do Queen Elizabeth I, a ring, and Outer Heron Island have in common? Would you believe the claim on a $1 billion-dollar English estate?
Stroll along America’s longest wooden footbridge, enjoying spectacular harbor views, including Maine’s oldest lighthouse on Burnt Island with its long history of keepers—some who never left the island.
Originally built as a secret society lodge for the Knights of Pythias, the Opera House was saved from demolition with the help of two famous rock stars. It’s become an internationally renowned music venue and considered the most haunted building in Maine.
A mysterious stranger dressed all in black checked into the Hotel Fullerton and headed out for a glimpse of ocean surf. Her identity and untimely end are still unsolved mysteries almost 100 years later.
Local Wawenock leader Samoset became the first Indigenous person to contact the Europeans and sets an example for us today.
Visit the Boothbay Harbor Shipyard Museum and learn more about this historic shipyard where tall masted ships have been built for almost 200 years.
We wrap up back where we began with some classic seafarer superstitions and accounts of unknown creatures sighted by hundreds of respectable people up and down the Maine and Massachusetts coastline known as The Great New England Sea Serpent.

We had a gorgeous weather day! Judi led us on pleasant walk around the harbor area of Boothbay, with stops for her recounting of history and stories of the town and residents. Not strenuous, but some slopes and stairs might be difficult for anyone with mobility issues
Kari did an excellent job of telling the highlights of Boothbay. She was enthusiastic and informative.
Judi was excellent. She knew a lot of history because her grandmother and mother had lived there and she shared it with us.
Great guide with wonderful stories. Very knowledgeable information delivered with a great sense of humor. Steve is the man for a great tour
Our tour guide Steve was great and loved his stories.
Steve provided an insightful introduction to Boothbay, through a brief walk around the immediate harbor and waterfront of the community. He also described the efforts the community is taking to keep its population thriving, despite the seasonal impacts of tourism. Boothbay has a bit of slope along its streets. Sidewalks are more narrow and scattered, but drivers tend to be respectful of pedestrians.
Really enjoyed this tour Lisa and Kari were very informative and fun Would highly recommend ut
Very enjoyable informative WALKING tour. Lots of walking for this senior citizen but accurately described and doable.
Very knowledgeable guides. Answered all questions. Very fr
Fabulous, complete, informative tour of Boothbay given by Kati! Most enjoyable!!
Very nice tour with Steve ! He was proud of the city he lives in !
Great tour of the town. Length is appropriate for all but the most physically challenged. Talk about a Jane Doe suicide was a little long but otherwise discussions were well thought out and of an appropriate Length.
Kari was a very enjoyable, friendly, and knowledgeable guide. We really enjoyed her intertwining of history and mystery, as well as her personal experience with Boothbay Harbor!
The Mysterious Lore and More Walking Tour was the highlight of our day! A fabulous mix of local history (ancient and more recent), mysterious disappearances and ghostly encounters, and even some fun with cryptids! Kari was beyond knowledgeable and a great storyteller. Loved the added visuals, too! Well worth the price and two hours of our day.
Excellent tour guides Kari, Steve, and Lisa showed us around Booth Bay Harbor. It was such a charming town with adorable shops and restaurants. Heard some amazing, mysterious stories, also!! Amazing tour!❤️
The tour was a lot of fun. The guides are very personable and knowledgeable. The tour was just the right length.
Very good tour. Tour guide was just starting out the season but still very informative and fun.

Great tour of Boothbay Harbor with Lisa of Mysterious Harbor Tours!
The tour was wonderful. Lisa’s knowledge of the town’s history was incredible, and she obviously loved doing research to find out even more information.
Lisa was so kind to book a walking history tour for the two of us. We had a great time waking around Boothbay Harbor learning about this historic fishing town. It was a very cold day for us especially since we live in Houston. Lisa told us the restaurants that are open in the off season and we enjoyed eating at one of them. The charge for the tour was a reasonable price and the two hour tour was the right amount of time to get to know Boothbay Harbor. Thank you, Lisa, for a wonderful tour.
Our tour guide Lisa was an excellent researcher and storyteller. She was a master at the colorful details that make a story come to life. We were a bit more interested in history than ghosts and she tailored her tour for us. My husband and I were impressed with the depth of historical facts and context. We've been coming to Boothbay for over 30 years and it's great to learn so many new things about this area. The visual aids were excellent and the stories were very compelling. We loved how Lisa seemed to know everyone in town too! This tour would be fun for all ages. Don't miss it!
