The room was nice, clean and comfortable. But I can't believe how terrible the service was at the downstairs restaurant C2. We were seated and had to wait 40 minutes to even get a water. By the time the waitress took our order it had been an hour and a half. Unacceptable!

I am currently staying here and I am hugely disappointed. Westin has always been a name I could rely on when traveling away from home, and given the price for this weekend, I am shocked this location is advertised as a 4-star hotel. The rooms are dated beyond belief. So dated you can almost hear the wallpaper screaming for help. There are scratches on the walls and distressed markings all over the furniture. The wear and tear is impossible to miss. Most concerning was walking into the room to find the toilet unflushed, with loose hairs scattered across the bathroom floor. With status meaning less and less every year, I had requested an upgrade ahead of my arrival as a Gold member. I was told I had already been "upgraded to a city view." For a hotel with Harborview in its name, I find it perplexing that my upgrade is a view of a random street intersection with no city life in sight at all.
The rooms were clean and bed was comfortable. Staff was friendly enough. Only complaint is the location of our air conditioner made it difficult to sleep. Cold air blew across my head and face all night. We had a room with 2 double beds as we had reward points that did not allow us to apply to a room with a king bed. 2 adults in a double bed is a tight fit! One of the beds' location is across from the AC unit. Other than this, the hotel is in a good location for visiting Portland.
We recently completed an outstanding 6-night stay at the Westin Portland Harbor View, and we cannot recommend it enough! Prospective guests should completely ignore the negative reviews from overly pampered, entitled travelers. This historic property delivers an incredible experience if you come with the right expectations. The hotel sits right in the charming Arts District, a pleasant 1.5-mile stroll from the harbor. While some reviewers complain about seeing unhoused individuals nearby, anyone who travels knows that this is a reality in every city. It did not impact our stay whatsoever. Instead, we loved the unbeatable location, which places you just steps away from dozens of amazing local restaurants. Future guests must remember that this beautiful building is over 100 years old. Despite its historic bones, everything functions perfectly—especially the showers, which provided awesome, plentiful hot water every single day. The hotel serves outstanding food, and the quality impressed us throughout our nearly week-long stay. The true heart of this hotel lies in its staff. The service blew us away and made our stay over-the-top amazing. If I managed this hotel, I would give a delightful bonus to these incredible team members who went above and beyond for us: James the concierge; Kirsten and Isabella the food and beverage managers; as well as Veljko, Mihaillo, October, Sarah, and Mario. This team knows how to take care of guests. We will absolutely return to the Westin Portland Harbor View the next time we visit Maine!
I wanted to share feedback about my experience with the front desk team at the Westin as a Bonvoy Elite Member. Unfortunately, one interaction stood out for the wrong reasons. A staff member whose name I believe was Griselda or Grisel was rude, dismissive, and poorly mannered. At a hotel of this level, that kind of attitude at the front desk is unacceptable, especially because the front desk sets the tone for the entire stay. This may seem like a small interaction, but it is exactly the type of experience that makes guests think twice about returning. In our case, we were also considering where to receive guests for an upcoming event, so this directly affected our impression of the property. By contrast, Barbara handled the situation more appropriately and professionally. But the evening front desk staff were excellent. They were polite, charismatic, well-mannered, and genuinely polished. Their hospitality felt warm, professional, and international in standard. Several of them seemed highly promotable and capable of representing the hotel at a much higher level. I hope management takes this constructively but seriously. This was not simply a matter of style or personality; it was a guest-facing interaction that reflected poorly on the property. I would strongly encourage management to review this specific interaction and pay closer attention to Griselda/Grisel’s front desk performance, tone, and suitability for a guest-facing role. Some team members clearly deserve recognition and growth opportunities, while others may need retraining or, if necessary, to be let go.
