One of the best food tours we’ve done. Comprehensive look at Madrid’s gastronomy and its evolution through time. Plenty of food and beverages both alcoholic and non over a six hour period. Well paced. Liked the mix of casual spots, historically significant locations, and purveyors.

New generation Churreria, the traditional castizo renewed. It is one of the best churrerias of Madrid. Churros are a product of Arab influence: we serve to tell the foundation of Madrid by the Arabs: Madrid was founded as an Andalusian fortress, known as Mayrit, on the banks of the Manzanares River by Emir Muhammad I around the year 865. And its evolution and consecration as a capital through the monarchy and its influence: products like chocolate, a colonial product par excellence, and a symbol of class until the 19th century when it became popular Owned by a famous family loved by locals, who were in the past “The TV Clowns”.
A restaurant and café serving authentic, traditional Madrid cuisine with over 135 years of history, an icon of Madrid in the city's heart. Known for serving its legendary cocido (stew) on Thursdays, it represents true Madrid's traditional cuisine. A great classic iconic establishment, very representative of the neighborhood, from 1887 that defines itself as “Original and castizo”.
One of Madrid's famous century-old taverns, the subject of literature, and a designated heritage site. The traditional Madrid aperitif since 1949, market cuisine, honest cooking, seasonal ingredients, classic recipes

What a treat! Andreina is a gem. Just a perfect mix of great nibbles and drinks, with great stories and history of Madrid. My idea of a perfect way to experience a city.
Amazing tour with the amazing Mikel! If you are on the fence, just book it! We love doing food tours, especially ones where we go places we would not have found on our own. That is definitely true for this one.
Wonderful way to start our trip to Spain! Natalia was warm, informative and delightful. We got lots of great information about Madrid and the importance of food in Spanish culture. The places we stopped were very authentic and the food was amazing! Highly recommend this tour - definitely worth the price.
Our guide Mikel was excellent. He was friendly and answered all our questions about the food and about Spain in general. The pace was perfect, and although the tour lasted five hours, we were not stuffed at the end (although we didn’t eat the rest of the day). If you are interested in food and Spanish culture, this tour is for you. Although this tour was four times the cost of another sightseeing tour I did, it was worth every penny. I highly recommend it.
Natalia was fantastic! Really interesting and informative tour. Loved it all. 😀👍🇪🇸
Nata was a fabulous guide and each stop was wonderful. Excellent tasting of Spain and great tour of neighborhoods. It was a very small group of four which made it feel like a personalized private tour. Highly recommend.
Amazing so good Nata was fantastic history food such a good rapport with clients and providors. Highly reccomended.
Nata, our super knowledgeable guide was fantastic. This is an excellent tour, so well structured to take in lots of little gems of Madrid’s culinary offerings. Nata set the cultural and historical perspective for each of the places we visited. The food was delicious and plentiful. Highly recommended.
Absolutely worth it, Nata our guide was fabulous her insight and knowledge of Madrid and Spain was excellent. The pace was very comfortable. Happily go again.
Very personal tour - went to places we would never had been to and experienced the real Catalonian cuisine. Our guide was warm, knowledgeable. It was your usual 5+ culinary walks tour .
Our guide Natalia truly put this tour over the top! A world traveler, she enthusiastically shared her culinary adventures with us. We visited historic and new shops and restaurants for a taste of the vast creativity of Madrid's culinary scene. A special shout-out to the churros and chocolate and the tortilla!
Our guide Mikel was terrific. He provided a nice mix of history of the city along with origins of the food we tried. Definitely don’t eat before you go as plenty of food on tour like a meal. Places we went were more ‘local’ places that locals shopped at so a good real world experience of Madrid. All the food was delicious.
Mikel was a fantastic guide. We really enjoyed our tour.
Great tour! We loved our guide Mikel. The food and spots we visited were amazing and things we would never venture to had we not been for this tour. We would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone.
David was great! He started and finished well. His knowledge was great, and he was genuinely interested in his clients and their interest in food. He seemed surprised one of the members of our tour was vegan and she said she’d mentioned it when booking, but he tried to accommodate her needs at very short notice. I thought the variety was good, and his knowledge of the history of the districts was excellent. I would recommend David as a guide for sure!!
We had a lovely time! The guide was amazing and the food delicious! Such a good way to get to know the city and the traditions.
I cannot think of a better way to immerse myself into Spanish culture than this tour. It was 5 1/2 hours of food, drink, architecture, walking, meeting cooks, shop owners and just plain fun. There were only 7 of us with an enthusiastic guide so every little question was answered. Worth every penny.
The pace was just nice and the food selection was well curated.
Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. The history of the city, the food that was chosen and places we stopped were wonderful. The tour is very well thought out. Wear comfortable shoes! Come hungry.
A truly special experience where you learn about history, culture, cooking, and get a deep feel for the city and what it is like to live and work.
We ate and drank like a local with a local, in neighborhoods I would not have known to explore. So fun!
Andreina was an excellent guide and shared her knowledge of the local history and gastronomy. She took us through areas we wouldn’t have found on our own, and packed in so many special little stops and surprises throughout the tour. As a first time visitor to Madrid, she was able to get us away from the tourist spots and to see how madrileños live and eat. The tourist spots exceeded our expectations!
Fantastic tour! Our guide paced and sequenced our stops in a wonderful way. was very knowledgeable and pleased everyone in the group. Kudos!
This tour was created by people who know and truly love food in Madrid. The Culinary Backstreet team put an incredibly thoughtful adventure together. On this tour, you will experience things you would never know existed as a visitor to Madrid. If you are a local, you will discover new things. Each stop was amazing. I felt like I was on one of those travel TV shows where as a viewer, you wish you could experience the food and local flavors. I did not want the tour to end. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, interesting and professional. If I could give this tour 10 out of 5 stars I would. I have been on other food tours, and this was absolutely the best.
We had a great morning with Natalia doing this tour. Culinary Backstreets is always great but Natalia gave the experience a very Madrilenian touch. We visited several markets, shops, and restaurants; but the end at Sala de Despiece and the visit to Sergio's ham shop were spectacular and unexpected.
