The Prado and Reina Sofia tour was the highlight of my trip! Kostas (my guide) had exceptional knowledge of art history and I thoroughly enjoyed our conversations about interpretation and finding meaning in the pieces. I also appreciated his insights into art conservation and restoration processes. I appreciated that we took our time and that I didn’t feel rushed so I could really immerse myself, an incredible experience!

Reviews
I want to preface this review by saying our substitute tour guide for Reina Sofia, Ana Cristina, was excellent. She stepped in at a moment's notice because our scheduled tour guide canceled at the very last minute due to illness. We didn't have a guide for the Prado Museum portion of the tour. While we were able to enter the Prado Museum, we didn't have the benefit of an English-speaking guide and had to rent audioguides. I get it, it happens. But this can't be the first time this has happened. There should be a more customer-friendly protocol in place; instead, we were left to fend for ourselves and with very little info on what to do next. The refund process was clunky--Why do I need to apply for a refund? Should be automatic, with proper communication and explanation.
Really great tour of museums Prado and Reina Sofia. The guide Laura was pleasant, very informative, well paced and unique . Highly recommend this tour experience.
JJ was absolutely fantastic! He was passionate and energetic and brought not only the paintings to life but the history and status of the art world as well. Our time in the Prado flew by and yet we learned so much! It is rare that an art museum guide has so much energy, and JJ’s energy was contagious. We saw many tours pass us by, and many of their customers stopped to listen to JJ, abandoning their own headsets to be able to lean in a bit closer to hear from JJ. We walked away curious to learn more about art and Spain’s history. A fantastic tour!!
Costas was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about art. He made the relics come alive with his stories, we enjoyed it very much. It went on a couple of hours longer than we had expected, but Costas maintained the same energy level and enthusiasm throughout the day. Be prepared for a full 5 hours to tour both the Prado and the Reina Sofia.
Excellent guided tour of Two of the Most important Art museums of the World. The guides were interested, experts in teaching, enthusiastic and pleasant. I came away with a new critical eye for Art and its place in defining our history, culture and common humanity.
very good experience and educational. Thank you our tour guide - JJ. He did a wonderful job.
Lorena was a fabulous guide for the Prado and Reine Sophia museums. The museums are too large to visit without a guide. We would not have appreciated the significance and progression of the paintings without her.
It’s was such a fun tour. It’s a big, lush and elegant palace. It’s worth a visit with a tour guide to understand it’s history.
Clara was our guide, and she was wonderful!! She has such a passion for art and history! I learned more on this tour than anywhere else! There we some very rude people on our tour who thought she should wait when they were 30 minutes late, and they brought a lot of negativity, but Clara handled it with grace and patience. Bravo! I highly recommend a tour with Clara, you will not be disappointed!
Awesome. You feel the passion for the arts and the commitment to share history and knowledge.
Wonderful tour! Our guide Kostas was incredibly knowledgeable. I truly enjoyed his thorough explanations of the various masterpieces we saw.
Great way of seeing the best of the best with an expert guide. Costas was an excellent guide and representative of Amigo Tours. Multi-lingual. Knew his art. Made connections through exhibits at each gallery to reveal the history of art. Never rushed. In fact, we booked a 4 hour tour of both The Prado and Reine Sofia. We were 5 hours. Just be aware that, whilst there were restroom breaks there was no refreshment breaks. We had a good breakfast before our tour that began at 10. Then were ready for refreshments when we left at 3pm.
The tour was very interesting and we enjoyed every moment of it. Klara was our guide and her knowledge about art was TOP. I really recommend Amigo Tours for your guidance 👌🏻
My guide was Costas and I visited both the Prado and Reina Sofia. Costas was so knowledgeable and shared many insights into the collections. I'm simply blown away by the art in both museums. Thank you. It was simply wonderful
Gabi (Gabriela) was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable and she kept the pace of the tours on par. I would highly recommend this tour.
Gabi was an excellent and informative guide through the highlights of the Prado and Reina Sofia. Our tour started at 10am at the Prado; we left at 12:20pm for the Reina Sofia, where the tour concluded around 2:15pm. A great way to spend several hours on our first full day in Madrid!
For some reason the Prado portion was canceled but the company let me know a day in advance. The Reina Sofia was a wonderful museum but the audio device was TERRIBLE. So difficult to hear her. A couple left 20 minutes in because the could not hear. She was a good guide when I could hear
Having the Prado part of the tour canceled was a huge disappointment. The museum was open and somehow the tour operator didn’t make it happen even though we booked this reservation months ago. Really inexcusable. The Reina Sophia part of the tour was excellent!
Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I learned more about Spanish artists and their works of art in both museums. It was wonderful to see the pieces in person AND to learn the facts (and some myths) behind the masterpiece(s) as well as the artists themselves.
The woman at the ticket booth at the Reina Sofia said this company is was a scam. We bought tickets and a tour for both Reina Sofia and Prado Museum for 4 hours and got a 1.5 hour tour of the Prado Museum only. They didn’t even give us a ticket for the Reina Sofia so we had to go and buy new tickets and tour the museum without a guide. We reached out to the company on that day requesting support and no one answered. So we spent €150 pp for a 1.5 hour tour of 1 museum. Not a 4 hour tour of 2 museums. The quality of the tour was generally fine, but it was a big let down. And in the moment, you can’t really rectify it because you need to reserve tour guides in advanced. Overall, I’d stay away from this company and find one that is on the formal museum website only.
Top experience thanks to our guide Paula!! She is simply amazing!! She made our tour fun and also very interesting with all her experience!
Paula from amigo tours was absolutely fantastic. We would use her again for everything in Madrid. Full of knowledge and so fun. Thank you.
Early morning time slot to beat the crowds but sooo busy. A lot of allocated time used checking people in Once in the Prado museum a selection of pictures re history and popular artists was provided which was really interesting and relevant. A good option if just planning a short visit to museum as its collection is huge and so is the building
Our guide was amazing. She was incredibly knowledgeable and gave excellent history of the art with interesting stories. However, we thought we were given no time between the long tour at Prado and Reina Sofia for a bathroom break and drink. She said to take the break but only gave 5 minutes after the Prado tour for the meetup. This caused a great deal of stress because we could not find the bathrooms and were late for the meeting time. We literally ran from one museum to the next thinking we would forfeit our tour of the Reina Sophia. When we got there, the guide was telling people to take a break for the bathroom and get a snack. Better communication about the break could have eliminated this stressful situation.
Disorganized and the guides were late! Left us on our own to get to the other museum. Disappointed! We had to use Google to find our way. When we got there the guide walked so fast we had to run. We gave back the radio and did a self tour. Too bad because the museums were very nice. Will never book a tour with Amigo Tours. We have booked tours all over the world but never had a bad one. The guide even told us to complain.
Tour guide lingered on representative period artwork w deep discussions. As result, we did not see 90% of the Prado collection before leaving to the Sofia tour. Overall, a great introduction, but you might want to return at a later time.
The visit to the Prado and the Reina Sofia are definetely worth it. The guide was very polite and attentious explainning very well the paintings and I really learned a lot about modern art at Reina Sofia. The issue was the group size, which in the end was about 25 people at the Prado museum (visit in spanish) and as the experience is sold with max 10 people I was expecting a different experience. Actually, I came to an opinion that we saw a lower number of paintings due to the difficult movement of such a big group. Maybe it were the holiday season, but at least I would rather know of the change in advance, not at a point you don’t have a choice. Maybe next time.
Alicia was a fantastic guide through the Prado and Reina Sofia. She explained the artworks in a knowledgeable and accessible style, and connected the paintings to each other and through history. Excellent.
Elaina did a great job taking us thru 2 very large museums in an orderly manner. Very easy initial meeting spot
Excellent selection of key masterpieces to go over. Our tour guide, Alicia, was very knowledgeable and very sociable. She provided very knowledgeable explanations. Highly recommended!
We found the tour excellently paced with interesting content about the paintings we saw and how they relate to Spanish history Elena was a great and really engaging guide and we really enjoyed her company for a few hours - thank you Elena!
Elena our guide was wonderful. Her knowledge and insights of both museums made for a truly great experience.
The tour was great. The leader was not only professional but incredibly well versed in art history but Spanish history as well. Her ability to encapsulate centuries of complicated history was impressive.
Ayla gave enough information on select works without being overwhelmed. Great to see famous works, and contrasting styles of selected painters. A great day out, thanks Ayla 💜
Helena was absolutely wonderful! Vast knowledge and exceptional presentations!! Helena was so prepared and answered each question with excellent background information. We would highly recommend her!
Very organized. Notified us in advance about meeting point. Very clear and easy to find. Very knowledgeable and interesting.
Helena was an excellent guide. She's very knowledgeable about the works of art in both museums, and she is very personable. This tour was a highlight of my visit to Madrid.
Our tour guide was great. She explained so much about the art work. She was very knowledgeable. I would recommend this tour to everyone.
Helena was great. Knowledgeable and kept us on pace with all that we needed to achieve for the timeframe. Very worthwhile experience that I recommend.
Borja was a great guide. Really welcoming, knowledgeable and fun. It was a great visit to the museum, although it was crowded, you get into the stories and the art is fantastic.
My dad organized a tour for the Prado Museum for my birthday and it was the best surprise ever! Borja shared with us very good and interesting information about the history of the museum and some of its best paints in the museum. His information is useful to understand the paints, their details and their context. Borja's humor is amazing! Really grateful for the experience.
Why the 5 STAR limit...?!? Our Guide, Elena, deserves 5 Stars & many, many more!!! Smart, informative, humorous, w/ excellent communication skills even in her second language, English, Elena took us on an exceptional tour of Art & History, never failing to explain how a particular piece fit into the greater World of Art as well as the greater World of five centuries of History!! By focusing on Spanish luminaries Velazquez, Goya & El Greco in the Prado, & Picasso in the Sofia, Elena not only did justice to our enlightenment, she also shined a very warm & engaging light on her beloved Country. A tour, & a Guide, not to be missed!
Our tour guide Helena was incredible. She was very knowledgeable, hit all of the must see pieces, and welcomed questions.
Terrible! The guides didn’t show up at the time set in the booking. We had to buy our own tickets to do the visit without the support of any guide.
Excellent counterpart to Prado. Significant works by Avant Garde and Surrealists leading to the main attraction "Guernica". Our tour guide gave a thorough overview and great explanations for many of the main works. No tour like this can cover every work but we got a very satisfying overview.
Elena, our guide, was Fantastic! We really appreciate her knowledge and great communication! So glad we took the tour for both museums and got to see some world famous art!
Helena was fabulous- gave lots of historical context in addition to great information about the artistic content.
This was a great introduction to the treasures of The Prado. Javier was an excellent guide. He was welcoming, informative and amusing. I was very impressed with how he ensured that everyone could hear him, including one member of the group who was deaf. He was also attentive to the young boy in the group, pointing out things of relevance and interest. Javier answered all my questions. I learnt a lot
Our tour guide Borge, was phenomenal. Very knowledgeable and passionate about the history and art work. Also incredibly patient with others that were not very amicable.
