Probably the best tour of our with week trip, and we have enjoyed some incredible tours. It was an English speaking tour and Cassie our guide was perfect. With an education in the arts Cassie was perfect for a tour of the Prada museum. Her enthusiasm and knowledge was amazing and you could not help but get caught up in her enthusiasm as we were skillfully guided through the museum. Such a treat. The second part of the day was equally special with early entry into the oldest restaurant in the world, Botin. The meal was wonderful but make sure you arrive with an appetite so you don’t miss one single tasty bite. Thanks Cassie for making it such a great day.

Itinerary
The best of Madrid’s artistic masterpieces awaits on a comprehensive tour of the Prado Museum. Meet your guide at the statue of Francisco Goya just outside and skip the line into Spain’s national art museum, home to over 7,000 pieces. With an expert in art history on hand, you’ll be guided to the crème de la crème of the masterpieces on display. Take in the breathtaking detail of works by Goya, Velazquez, and more, and discover the stories behind each careful brushstroke. Enjoy free time at the end of your museum tour to browse the gift shop or purchase a snack. (if option selected)
Next, discover another aspect of Madrid’s history on a stroll through the charming Literary Quarter, where many of Spain’s literary geniuses have trodden these very paths.
You'll also stop in the lively Plaza Mayor and hear stories from your guide about how Spain's history was shaped here.
The Tapas & History with Botín tour option starts here with a glass of vermouth, the house tapas, and some Manchego cheese. While enjoying this traditional Spanish aperitif, you'll learn about its history on the ground floor of what was once the home of Miguel de Cervantes, author of Don Quijote lived. (if option selected)
Family-owned and historic Casa del Abuelo. We will go to and try gambas al ajillo, one of Spain’s most beloved dishes. We will discover how this dish actually came from poverty though now celebrated. We will drink Grandpa’s house wine, made at the family vineyards. (if option selected)
Next, it’s time for a veritable Spanish feast! Step past the long lines forming outside before the restaurant even opens its doors. Your guide will show you the cave beneath the restaurant, which was part of a tunnel system that once spread underneath Madrid, and take you behind the scenes of the historic kitchen where 300-year-old ovens make time-perfected recipes. Finally, sit down for a three-course meal and feast on specialties such as Botín’s signature roast suckling pig. (last stop for both options)

The best guided tour of Madrid. Devour Tours never fail. We did Barcelona 7 years ago hence we booked for Madrid this time. Mariano is the best guide one can ever hope for. He guided us notvonlyvthrough the art and food of Madrid, but also the culture behind it. Not only the paintings, but the techniques and the stories behind each. Highly recommended!
Cassie was an excellent guide. She was very knowledgeable, helpful and funny. We had a great time and would highly recommend this tour. The meal at Botin was very special. The whole group was fun to be with.
Great experience. Arantxa is very knowledgeable and friendly. In addition to the tour she shared additional information about Spanish dishes, places to visit. She ensured we were all comfortable and followed rules and policies.
We couldn’t get a table at short notice at Botin restaurant, funnily, enough so we decided to do a tour which included the restaurant and Prado museum. It isn’t cheap but we had a great day. Arantxaour tour guide was excellent. Very organised, very knowledgable, lots of fun, we were impressed. A nice group of people today, you don’t get to see too much in the museum as you are limited to 1.5 hours, but it’s a fun, highlight filled tour, then a nice walk to the restaurant. You get a tour of the restaurant too before they open up. Go in the wine cellars, see the kitchen and all the floors. Very good food and wine. We loved it.
The tour was beyond our expectation. Arantxa our tour guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. never a dull moment during the tour. Tour within Botin’s kitchen was an added perk before the lunch. Well worth the money.
Rosita was amazing and very knowledgeable. Would recommend
I had an amazing time with Cassie as a guide. She was so well informed on the art in the museum as well as the history of the city itself. The restaurant was my favorite part of this. From the time that we met until finish, it took about 4 hours; I definitely recommend.
Cassie was the perfect guide through the Prado - she put the art in historical perspective and helped us to really appreciate what we were seeing. And lunch at Botín, what a treat! The food was so delicious! We highly recommend this tour - it was a wonderful way to spend the day in Madrid!
Cassie was amazing! This tour is totally worth it-the food and the guide Cassie was so wonderful.
I absolutely loved our tour with Arantxa! She’s amazing and I highly recommend her. She was funny, passionate, and our entire group thought she was the best!!!
We met our guide, Cassie, an English lady but a long-term Madrid resident, on a beautiful, warm (to me, anyway, from Scotland) October morning. We met at the Goya statue and met a mixed group of North Americans - all very pleasant, respectful and attentive, however, which helps on a small tour. The Prado was really enjoyable, particularly as despite the stated 2,000 paintings, we concentrated on viewing 20. That may sound ridiculously low, and I thought so at first, but it enables Cassie to concentrate on the ones that matter, especially with her entwining the paintings into an overall history of Spain. Not the way I'd have chosen to view it but with hindsight, it makes sense and I'm glad she planned it that way. If I entered the tour guideless, there were some paintings I'd have no interest in and would easily have walked past, but when Cassie framed them in context with other paintings, they became meaningful. As an example, a few days later, I was in the Thyssen museum and had an audio guide, but even standing in front of Holbein's portrait of Henry XIII, a painting I know a fair wee bit about, the audio guide was all surface, just telling me things anyone could see. Juxtaposed to that, Cassie, having studied and having Art History qualifications, added layers to paintings, explaining things like Velazquez's mirror reflections, why, among 5 similar men, ruffs were ostentatious for 4 of them and not the other, and why his hand might be held a particular way. It helped me engage with paintings I'd otherwise have no interest in. My missus told me after we booked this tour that we could request, if possible, to see a certain painting. I read a review after I got back home which seemed to suggest that that might be the case, but we weren't asked on the day and I'd never have the temerity or hubris to do so. As it happened, I didn't have to. Despite me seeing a few El Greco's I wasn't overly interested in, it helped me get an appreciation for Spanish art overall. Also, the one I really wanted to see, namely Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights, captivated me and I saw it, and in explained detail. Further, I'd no idea Goya's Saturn Devouring His Son was at the Prado so walking into his Black Paintings room and encountering that, just blew me away. It was humbling to stand in front of that. We got a 10 minute restroom/visitors centre stop and afterwards, Cassie walked us to Botín, a 35 minute walk away, but while it wasn't overly taxing, it's a fair distance and a couple on our group with a support dog (Duchess - with a beautiful passport photo!) had to get a taxi and that was easily arranged by Cassie, so don't worry about the walk if it sounds bad. We got to Botín 30 mins before it opened, so had a peaceful private tour of the building - it's somewhat of a Labyrinth. Downstairs first to a dining area, then downstairs again to an old wine cellar, where all the bottles had spoiled, had become covered in mould, but looked great in photos. Back up, beyond the ground floor to above, to encounter Hemmingway's favourite table in the corner, then up again, through tight spaces each time. If that sounds mad enough, look at the photos of rooms and stairwells to see how tight it is, THEN factor in there's no dumb waiters, and staff have to walk past you (they're not impolite, but have no time to wait - you should see the queue outside!) with plates of food. We were fortunate (maybe not fortune, as I've no idea about other tours - Cassie might have arranged it) to be at a long table right by the entrance. Initially, it wasn't ideal due to the draught and constant traffic of people, but it soon settled down and it beats being upstairs as there's no air conditioning. The building? Beautiful and historic, as very few are. The staff? Other than serving (Cassie ordered), I never really noticed them, which was good. The food? We had some stunning croquettes, then the finest (also, the only!) artichokes I've ever tried, with some cooked ham through it. There may have been some Padron Peppers, but I may be conflating with other tours we had. With or without the peppers, the starters were beautiful. The anticipated star of the show was the roast sucking pig. Unless you're veggie or have ethical issues, you can't go to Botín and not try it. There was lamb but I never heard anyone order it. The couple sitting across from us from North Carolina both chose the Hake and it looked beautiful and they both said they enjoyed it. I enjoyed the pig. In the UK, I love hard pork crackling. The skin on the pig, though, was softer, but you could tell it was still cooked for hours and though not hard, still had a lovely crispness to it. The bit of pig I had, had a few ribs but the meat itself was soft and flavoursome. The dessert was was a Basque cheesecake, roundly judged by all as magnificent. You can't fail to enjoy a tour like this. An educated, curated, history of some fine bits of the Prado, a museum you could easily wander about like an extra from The Walking Dead in and perhaps stumble across the supposed highlights, PLUS entry into a restaurant, with exclusivity & priority, to somewhere you'd otherwise not get a reservation for, for 3 months. Our thanks to Cassie for a terrific, curated tour, which ensured we were invested, and thanks to the other guests we spoke with for making it pleasant, too. Fraser & Julie * * I'd normally write her name first, but this is my review and she may do her own.
Mariano gave us a fantastic tour of the Prado Museum. It was a lesson in both Spanish and art history. He showed us details in the paintings we would not have seen otherwise and he linked everything to Madrid’s history. He made a special point to show us a painting from Albrecht Durer at the request of one of our group. Mariano’s knowledge of art art history was inspiring. From there, we had a lovely walk through the literary section of Madrid and finished with a beautiful lunch at Boutin, the oldest restaurant in the world. We have been on May tours through tripadvisor, but this was one of the best.
We had a great time! Cassie, our tour guide, provided the perfect mix of interesting info and easy conversation. Our whole group enjoyed her and everything we saw and learned with her!
The guide was bright, gregarious and very knowledgeable- food tapas and drinks were first rate especially Bodin
We were lucky that our guide, Mariano H, is an artist, and teaching arts, he explained about the history, the background of the artists, point out the specifics of the paintings to us, etc. Wish we had more time to see all the paintings. Mariano was professional. The lunch at Botin was very good. Croquettes was creamy, artichoke was tasty, the succulent pig was good, and the Basque cheesecake was delicious.
Fantastic tour with Mariano, very knowledgeable and passionate about both the art and history. Great lunch as well.
Arantxa was a joy - enthusiastic, personable, funny, knowledgeable, efficient, organized, energetic and just all around adorable! She was our favorite tour guide of all times!
Our guide, Cassie, was wonderful! She provided insight on the art at the museum, as well as teaching us about the artist and the history in the art. The behind the scenes visit of the restaurant and the delicious meal were a great way to end the tour!
We had a great time learning the history of Madrid and Spain as a whole. The restaurant Botin was fabulous just like our tour guide, Arantxa!! An experience we will never forget - thank you Anantxa 💗Can’t wait to try your recommendations and recipes!
The tour was very enjoyable although it is a little pricey. Arantxa is very knowledgeable and pleasant. She explained the paintings very well and the restaurant and food well too. I have no hesitation to join her tours next time when we visit.
Thankyou to Arantxa, my family had an excellent experience. She is so knowledgeable and fun. We enjoyed every moment of her guide.
Arantxa was an amazing guide and was really interesting at explaining Spanish history and showing us the most significant paintings in the Prado museum that depicted it. The lunch at Botin was delicious and it was fantastic to get there early before the crowds arrived. Highly recommend this tour!
If you enjoy art and food, this tour is for you! Starting at the Prado Museum, over a 2 hour period, Cassie took us on an art lovers tour of Spain and its royal family! She takes you on a journey through history, providing both an artistic view of the paintings as well as some poignant anecdotes! After the Prado tour we wove our way through the streets of Madrid, where we soon found ourselves outside restaurant Botin, the oldest restaurant in the world! Being on this tour gave us access to the restaurant prior to its opening, where we were shown the old wine cellar, the still in use 300 year old kitchen/oven, before being seated for a scrumptious lunch. Not only was Cassie a great and knowledgeable guide at the Prado, she was an excellent host at lunch.

Absolutely amazing tour! Cassie was fantastic - so knowledgeable, friendly and funny. I loved the way she spoke about the art and she made me feel so comfortable as a solo traveller. The food was incredible and it was nice getting to know the group!
We loved our tour - Mariono was an exceptional guide — an artist himself, he shared many fascinating tales of the artists as well as the history of Madrid illustrated by the paintings we saw and learned much about. We typically might stroll through a museum in an hour, looking at paintings but knowing little about the history. Getting a self-guided audio has never appealed, but having an expert in art take you through the museum while teaching you so much about art history made it a joy. And then the lunch was also a wonderful addition. All in all - an experience we will remember for a very long time.
Mariano was fantastic with a historical tour of the Prado linking Spanish events to schools of art and famous pieces. The walk thru the Latin quarter and then skip the line access to BOTIN with Cochinillo was a treat. Highly recommended.
Cassie did a fabulous job with our tour. She was on time and very prepared. She did a fabulous job mixing art and Spanish history and even culinary history information along the way. We had a great tour.
What an A+ day! Our tour of the Prado Museum and lunch at the oldest restaurant in the world was a highlight of our trip to Madrid. Cassie's knowlege went far beyond telling us about the masterpieces of art in the museum, she wove in great storytelling that made the art and the history of Spain come alive. It was thoughtful and fun. The early access and tour of Botin was the best way to top off our tour. We felt like VIPs all day. The only thing that might have been missing was a visit from her father. (Hello, Peter!)
Cassie was amazing! She made the whole vibe very relaxed and personal. She also really knew her information about the paintings, and she gave us other interpretations that we had not heard before. She also gave us lots of amazing history about Botín while we were eating, and she was able to give us information about other places to try in the city.
Our 3rd time doing this tour and it never disappoints. And Cassie helped push the tour over the top! Like all the Devour guides weve had she was very informed, a joy to be around, and made the tour fun. Very likable and helped us to understand the paintings and the bldg itself.
Holidays for us are about food and art so this was a perfect match. Cassie gave us expert analyses of the major pieces in the Prado (Goya's black paintings being my favourite) and then on to Botin for suckling pig and the most extraordinary cheesecake. Utterly recommended.
Our tour guide Cassie was super nice. The way she talked was really interesting and her jokes were funny. The group we had was really nice and friendly too.
Absolutely great experience all around With Cassie! Very engaging, interesting, and humorous tour of the museum and restaurant, as well as one of best meals of our trip. Highly recommend!
Hello Cassie’s dad, she’s an amazing tour guide. She provided fun and informative insights on the painting in the Prado and was a great guide. Loved the tour!
What a fantastic day! We did a guided tour of the Prado followed by lunch at Botín and it was definitely one of the highlights of our time in Madrid. Our guide, Mariano, was brilliant. He was so friendly and knowledgeable and had a wonderful way of bringing the paintings and their stories to life. His enthusiasm was infectious and he made the Prado interesting, accessible and fun. We learnt so much from him and never felt rushed. Lunch at Botín afterwards was the perfect way to finish the experience and made the whole day feel very special. Mariano really made this experience unforgettable for us. If you are considering this tour, I would absolutely recommend it, and if you can request Mariano as your guide, even better!
Mariano our guide was very knowledgeable and good to be around
Fantastic experience. Alfonso is a master story teller. His passion made our tour exceptional.
Alfonso and Rodriguez were fantastic guides, the museum visit was a perfect balance of time and content, and the Botin restaurant meal was delicious.
Our experience was delightful and our guide Arantxa very knowledgeable and yet fun at the same time. The only negative feedback is we did not have enough time to enjoy our lunch at Bodin. We sat down at approximately 12 noon and were required requested to leave by a little after 1 PM. Not nearly enough time to enjoy the cycling, pig, red wine, not dimension, dessert, and coffee. Still a wonderful experience.
Arantxa was a fabulous guide! So personable and knowledgeable, she made it a wonderful experience!!
Arantxa, my Tour Guide, was Fantastic. Her knowledge, passion for what she does, and her ability to teach were outstanding. I really appreciated her sharing information beyond the surface on the many paintings, and teaching me Spanish Table Etiquette during lunch. Thank you Arantxa!
Cassie was a very engaging and knowledgable guide. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Prado Museum and Cassie’s knowledge of the works there was exceptional without being stuffy. The tour of Botin was fascinating and the lunch that followed was excellent. Would highly recommend.
I had an awesome experience with Cassie. She was extremely thorough, well-educated, and engaging. I cannot recommend her enough. She made everyone feel like a native in Spain. The food at Botin was incredible and the tour at Prado was informative. Definitely check her out!
I’m not particularly knowledgeable about the world of art, so I was looking for a guide who could help me explore the Prado and, more importantly, help me see the best of it. This tour did that perfectly. Cassie was a fantastic host. She was knowledgeable, engaging and had a wonderful way of bringing the paintings and the history behind them to life. She kept us enthralled as we explored the key pieces, and I came away with a much greater appreciation not only for the artwork, but also for the history of Spain. And then came another treat — access to Botín before opening time. Getting to see the kitchen and cellars, before sitting down together for a wonderful meal. Croquettas, suckling pig and the most amazing cheesecake that I would come back to Madrid especially for. Botín also happily catered for a variety of dietary requirements, which was much appreciated. I wholeheartedly recommend this tour, whether you’re travelling solo, as a couple or a group. Thank you, Cassie, for a truly special day. Ngā mihi nui! 🇳🇿❤️🇪🇸
This was an excellent tour! Florin was a wonderful guide and gave us such an insightful look at the Prada museum and we really enjoyed time to see Botin and experience lunch there and we just had a fun time with our small group and guide.
Mariolo was amazing. A wealth of knowledge!
Highly recommend this tour. Our guide Mariano was very knowledgeable in the history of Spain and how it threads through the artwork st the Prado, and as a trained artist was able to give very entertaining and informative discussions of the artwork itself. And with regards to Botin, we literally got to go right past a crowd waiting at the door to be let in first, being able to see the restaurant empty and take a brief tour of it to learn some history. Being able to peek in the kitchen at the oven and go into the basement and the remnant of the tunnels underneath was so cool, and a real highlight of the tour. Plus then we had a fantastic lunch! I much preferred this experience to just getting a Botin reservation. Plus, with the museum being free the last few hours of the day anyway we could just go back later after a rest to recharge if we wanted to see more of the Prado than we saw in the around 1:45 we spent in the museum.
We had an awesome experience with Mariano on our Prado tour followed by lunch at Botin. Mariano had just the right touch: the paintings were interesting on their own, but he wove them together with a historical thread that really enhanced the visit. Our walk to Botin was through the lovely Barrio de Las Letras, and Mariano pointed out many places of interest along the way. Lunch at Botin was a real treat with a little behind the scenes tour before the meal. Do not hesitate to book this fun, interesting, and delicious tour!
