4 floors of artworks! We went on a weekday so it was not very busy. We bought tickets via Viator and could not make it (few family members were sick) so Viator contacted the museum and were able to change to a different date for us. Very accomodable! ☺️

Very welcoming Museum with four floors of amazing exhibits. The staff were very helpful and on the day of visiting, entry was free. There is a small gift shop and lockers are also available. Easy to reach using public transport. The only negative was the fierce employee on the second floor (the floor with the two long rooms) who would harass people and warn about getting too close to exhibits or getting too near the glass or the fact that masterpieces shouldn’t have cameras anywhere near them.
The highlight for us was of course the fabulous art collection, but super cedes that is the building itself - beautiful. Even if you are fit take the lift it is a very old fashioned one - an antique. Two sets of door to close and a plush seat to sit on.
Be sure to visite of you love art history. The collection is vaste and it’s facination how one man could assemble it all. There Are several very good paintings - among the a few of Bosch, and Quite a few by Goya. The ceilings are fun. They are not great art, but They Are obviously inspired by art. In one of them you can for instance see Goya’s Maya. There Are many other objects of art of high quality and also a collection of weapons. The house itself is also beautiful.
Fabulous collection, in an amazingly beautiful house…. Everything about this museum is so well done, something for everyone, The art collection has paintings by Bosch and Goya, the jewellery collection is extensive, on the top floor, cabinets of fabrics, ceramics, and some weapons.. It’s really worth a visit.
Really enjoyed our visit here, it’s a fantastic collection of European art in a magnificent ornate building. Definitely worth your time. Bought our tickets at the entrance. Much less touristed than other places but so many fabulous paintings and other items including a collection of hand crafted weaponry on a higher floor.
A brilliant museum in a wonderful house and a place I will visit again on my next trip to Madrid! Not many people which makes it a joy to visit. Everything is Spanish and English. Most exhibits have extra information besides just artist and title. There are introductions to each floor (Spanish and English) as well as to every room (Spanish and English). Lots of QR codes but no Wifi. You may take photos as per usual: no flash, no selfie stick, no tripod Not sure about audio guides. I was not asked/offered one when buying my ticket. Important: The lockers are before! you enter trough the second door to get to the ticket counter (on the left and the right). And the toilets are past the ticket counter on the left going down one floor. Very clean! The only thing I found sad was that there is no English guide book in the shop. There are some nice ones but all in Spanish.
I am a frequent visitor to Madrid and over the years I have made the grand tour of the major attractions of the city (e.g. Prado, Reina Sofía, Palacio Real, etc.) more than once. With an hour to kill before my flight, I visited this interesting museum, hosted in a distinctive "hôtel particulier". The highlight of the Galdiano collection are the Goya paintings (I counted seven of them). Certainly worth the visit. My advice is to buy the 5-Euro ticket directly at the Museum, ignoring the offers on line that apply a totally unnecessary surcharge.
A really interesting gallery, reminded me of the Burrell Collection in Glasgow. There's a lift inside which was helpful as we can't manage the stairs.
This museum captures the taste, refinement and culture of a 19th/20th century European intellectual. The on-line ticketing and slotted times are convenient and help to avoid crowds.
Another must visit museum when visiting Madrid is this lessor known compact museum that’s very slightly off the beaten-track. It packs so much over 4 floors of a building that of itself is stunning in every respect – the artwork on the ceilings is amazing and could easily be missed. Unlike the main 3 museums in Madrid, this museum is much more peaceful and so makes viewing a very enjoyable experience. Also, the variety of exhibits probably sets this museum apart – check out the ‘Small Portraits’ collection; the ‘Jewellery/Valuables’ collection, etc. I spent about 3 hours here, and know that I’ll happily return in the near future.
We came quite late in the day so had barely 2 hours which is not enough to see all the treasures across 4 floors of the very beautiful mansion. There is so much to see it is a little mind blowing. The building itself is also amazing especially the painted ceilings in many of the rooms.
The museum closes early so check times. Four floors in Galdiano's palatial home. An incredible collection of European art, swords, silver, cameos, and textile fragments from around the world. The rooms with gilding and ceiling frescos of famous artists, writers and allegorical figures are fantastic. We arrived at 2 and were admitted free as they wer closing at 3! Next time in Madrid I will go early and get the audioguide. It is better than The Frick for the range of works...all collected by one man.
This is the museum we were most pleasently surprised by. We were mostly there for the paintings and I have to say, the collection is big and has masterpieces, we had only expected to see in a nacional gallery. There are a lot of realistic, impressionistic and expressjonistic paintings that swept us of our feet. Goya's paintings in the museum are also really impressive! The house itself is also beautiful and definetly worth seeing. They also have probably the cheapest souvenir shop compared to other galleries in Madrid, where you can get really good and big prints of paintings for just 2€. Do not miss out on visiting this one!!!
Definitely worth a visit if in the area. The building and gardens are beautiful. The collection is not big but has a few unique items (Goya, Bosch, El Greco) and interesting collections of weapons, porcelain, books, and jewelry. Not crowded, one can take time and enjoy this little gem.
Spent a couple of hours here wandering around this magnificent collect and would not hesitate to return a second, or third, time. So much history, so many wonderful objects
It’s. Closed on Monday and no way to come back ... I’m sorry for my two daughters and our time and money wasted .. maybe it’s my fault but when I bought it does not say it’s closed????
The museum was wonderful! However, TripAdvisor sold me a ticket for Monday, but the museum is closed on Mondays. Luckily they honored my ticket on Wednesday.
It has a multitude of works displayed across four floors, and the small palace is a beautiful place. It is usually not crowded, so you can see it peacefully. It is a pity that nothing is displayed about how the house was back then.
Very nice museum, the spectacular house, with very good works, wonderful period furniture. Very easy access to Serrano, worth visiting.
I found it incredible because of the variety of elements on display and the building itself that is sensational, the visit is pleasant, once visited the ground floor as preamble I advise to go up and start from the third down, it goes towards more. .The story itself of Lazaro Gadiano and very suggestive and similar to Cerralbo as great collectors. Anyway, I didn't care what I found.
It is very worth visiting this museum, both for its collection of art and historical objects, and for the building where it is located. A palace of great beauty architectural value.
It has been a magnificent discovery and the collection is impressive. From jewelry to weapons, to textiles, sculptures, and above all painting. Obras de El Bosco, Goya, Velazquez, Murillo. Just stunning. The palace/house of the journalist is already worth the visit.
They sold me and charged for tickets to a museum that was closed. On January 1st I wanted to see the museum of Lazaro Galdiano, a few days before I took out the tickets, they were charged and confirmed and when I arrived it was closed. They messed up my museum and morning.
La impresionante museografía, el orden, la conservación del sitio y, sobretodo, la cantidad de obras de arte y de artículos que se pueden admirar.
Spectacular this museum. Knowing the history of this house and then going to museum is beautiful. I recommend seeing next to the museum always have a commercial display. In my case it was Pedro del Hierro's fashion exhibition.
Excelente museo, muy bien organizado, excelente personal, la climatización ha sido perfecta así como la visita misma a las diferentes plantas.
The museum closes at 3:00 p.m., as the host told me when I arrived. At 2:50 p.m., the guards go around the rooms and push you to the exit unsparingly. At 2:57 pm, several guards have already left the museum! It ruins the end of the tour.
Collections d'une grande richesse ! C'était une belle découverte complètement inattendue ! Une cerise sur le gâteau ! Je recommande à tout le monde d'aller voir ce musée.
Quiet visit, off the beaten track of mass tourism. Free admission for Italian teachers as in many other Spanish museums. Lazaro Galdiano was a very rich banker who, throughout his life, between Europe and America where he lived, collected an infinite number of objects of all kinds that he then donated to the Spanish state, thus making his wealth available to all. On the other hand, there is a Spain that has been able, and knows, to enhance this priceless heritage in the best way. The museum is perfectly managed. On display are objects of all kinds unique pieces of goldsmithery, sculpture, painting, illuminated books, weapons, etc. arranged in a cross-sectional museum path. The setting up of the "treasure chamber" is fascinating. Very friendly at the ticket office and the caretakers of the rooms. two pleasant hours.
An essential visit to this palace where you will find authentic treasures. From paintings by Goya such as El Aquelarre, to works by El Hieronymus or El Greco. Also an impressive collection of valuable objects: liturgical chalices and patens, bronzes, enamels, medals, coins, ancient jewelry, etc. a legacy of incalculable value. Totally recommended.
Los techos me han gustado muchísimo , es todo muy interesante, maravillosos cuadros, recomiendo esta visita
The Lázaro Galdiano Museum is a little-known gem of Madrid. Collection of more than 12,000 pieces, including works by El Greco, Federico Madrazo, Goya, Hieronymus Bosch, Zurbarán, stamps, tiles, fabrics, silver, weapons,... The building is beautiful and its interior incredible. Teachers enter FREE
One of the best private museums in Europe, it leaves no one indifferent in any of its collections, both in the pieces on display and in the building that houses them.
Taking advantage of a trip to Madrid, I wanted to take a guided tour with a group of friends. A few days before we called by phone to find out if we had to reserve, since the information on the website was contradictory. They told us that we didn't need to reserve, that being there on time (11 a.m. on a Saturday) was enough. When we showed up at the indicated time, they told us that the visit was complete since all the places had been reserved online. Our disappointment was huge. When we filed a complaint with the department of education we received an insufficient and somewhat arrogant response.
Beautiful building surrounded by beautiful gardens, the interior surprised us as it preserves a large collection of works of art, tableware, coins and even ancient weapons. I recommend the visit.
El poder de atesorar tantos tesoros, me imagino que en época de tantas penurias los que poseían riqueza lo podían hacer fácilmente. Pero es de agradecer que lo haya revertido y lo podamos disfrutar
Very covered, everything that can be stowed is here. Many great masterpieces in between. The strangest thing is probably the ceiling in one of the living rooms, where he has had many of the very large works painted in a collection.
A very interesting and unknown museum from a private collection. Suitable for people with disabilities.
José Lázaro Galdiano was an entrepreneur, intellectual and art collector of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. At his death he donated all his assets to the Spanish State, including his House-Palace with his works of art which is where this wonder of a museum is located. Sculptures, paintings, furniture, letters, plans, clocks, everything and everything displayed with great gusto. Also highlight the garden surrounding the palace. A museum to visit
A gem of museum and palace, which being a neighbor of Madrid, completely deconsists. The collection is wonderful, but it is so tastefully displayed that the enjoyment for the view is double. When I thought I knew every museum in my city, I discovered this wonder.
Museum where you can admire the private art collection of Jose Lazaro Galdiano which also includes some paintings of some importance. The exhibition occupies the entire 4 floors of the historic palace, his former residence. The museum is located in an area not central but easily accessible by metro, the nearest stop is Gregorio Maranon (line 7 or 10). The exhibition is very well cared for, the tour route easy to follow, the palace is already an attraction in itself, especially the beautiful halls on the second floor. Entrance fee at € 7. An absolutely interesting visit, to what would be a mistake to consider a minor museum.
It is a completely magical villa and have one meet. In addition to the many artworks of the great masters, it is a pleasure to walk through the rooms and feel how beautifully they are decorated.
It is an emblematic construction of its time. The first floor shows the splendor of the building, the richness of the construction and the opulence of a social class of the early twentieth century. The collection is rich and varied. Gardens are another important part of touring
Nice museum, but the staff incredible in the negative sense. At 14:00 the gentleman rolled his eyes at the cash desk and tried to talk us out of visiting, as they close at 15:00. At 14:45 (!) all rooms were closed, the lights were switched off and the toilets were not allowed to be used anymore.
Visita muito interessante. Gostei de ver a colecção, muito diversificada. Revela um gosto muito eclético
Both the building and the collections it houses are wonderful. Very nice and comfortable to visit, with a very friendly room staff willing to answer the visitor's questions. Very happy to have discovered this museum.
Very good museum, with a great art collection and the building itself is already worth visiting.
A museum to spend a perfect morning or afternoon, from the best private collections in Spain. Painting, sculpture and many more works of art inside all of them excellent. Another essential Madrid.
A museum very varied for its numerous pieces and for its variety of contents, paintings, triptychs, sculptures, carvings, antique weapons, jewelry, utensils of all kinds, miniatures, armor, coins, jewelers, chests, chalices, dinnerware, fine glassware and many more things that credit Lazarus Galdian as the great collector he became. The counterpoint to these positive aspects is given by at least three drawbacks, the poor location of the lighting especially for some large paintings that makes it extremely difficult to contemplate because it dazzles your vision, the almost zero lighting of some display cases with small objects keeping the exposed in gloom and finally the poor numbering of objects in many display cases that penalizes the identification of them by the visitor. Despite all the above, the museum deserves a visit of a couple of hours to enjoy the art and ingenuity of the skilled artists of the past centuries.
