Your evening begins at a historic tavern in the heart of Madrid, where you’ll enjoy your first tapas of the evening along with vermouth—Spain’s favorite aperitif. Get a crash course in the art of tapeo as your guide shares some of the secrets of going out for tapas here in Madrid. (if the option selected)
Your next stop was once a horse stable and is now a beloved family-run restaurant serving homemade dishes from Asturias. You'll see how cider is traditionally poured and even get the chance to try it yourself! You'll sip your freshly-poured cider and enjoy two tapas typical to region. (if the option selected)
After that, you’re off to discover Madrid’s history up close on an expertly guided walking tour! For the next 35 minutes, history will come alive before your eyes as you pass iconic sights like the Royal Palace, one of the largest royal palaces in the world, and wander through the historic Habsburg neighborhood with buildings dating back to the 15th and 17th centuries.
Having worked up an appetite, it’s time for more tapas at a beloved bar in the historic center. Each of these bites is a time-honored local favorite that has won the hearts of generations of madrileños over the decades! You'll pair your tapas with a delicious wine cocktail locals love on a night. (if the option selected)
You'll resume your history walk visiting Madrid’s famed Plaza Mayor that has been the scene of bull fights, plays, and even public trials during the Inquisition.
Next, you'll see the lively Puerta del Sol, a lively plaza. Your guide will fill you in on why these plazas hold immense significance in Madrid's history and culture.
The next stop is a family-run bar open since 1906. Here you'll try Madrid's signature tapa, gambas al ajillo or garlic shrimp, at the place it was invented with a glass of wine.
The big finale! We are granted special access to go into Botín, the world’s oldest restaurant, before it opens. This multi-floor restaurant has never, ever closed. We will start on the lower floor, even accessing the wine cellar, and it isn’t permitted entry outside of our group. We will head back upstairs and have an opportunity to stick our heads into the oven that keeps Botín running, where the cochinillos are roasted. We will head to our table past incredible works of art, tiled walls, and more inside this living museum and restaurant. (if option selected)

Best tour of our 3 months in Europe. If you like wine and have a day in Madrid, do this tour! Three wineries, 3 huge tastings at each, limestone wine caves, wonderful food. Wine aged in clay pots like thousands of years ago?? Our goup of 19 connected as the day progeessed, and we enjoyed everyone. What's not to love? Ishmael was a superbly knowledgeable guide who knows everything about the local wine industry. I can't say enough about the experience!

The Tapas bars David took us to were all very different, original and gave us great food and drink. I can’t recommend David and this tour highly enough. The evening was good value for money.
The Tapas & Taverns tour with David was one of the highlights of my time in Madrid. David was a fantastic guide - he shared a perfect balance of history, fun facts, and personal stories that kept the group engaged. The spots we hit were both varied and authentic, and all of the tapas we tried were delicious. It won’t be my last devour tour.

I signed up for this tour based on a stellar recommendation from a close friend. I’m so glad I followed her advice! Samantha (Sam) was an amazing, friendly, and fun tour guide who did a great job of setting expectations in a casual way, keeping us moving without feeling rushed, and ensuring that more chatty tour guests didn’t take steal our attention away from the experience. The group of us 5 women on the tour (mostly solo travelers) had so much fun. We ended up grabbing gelato after the tour from a place Sam recommended. One suggestion I’d give is to offer a dessert option at the last stop on the tour. I learned just the right amount of history in context, and the offering and amount of drinks and food were perfect. Some of the restaurants were quite busy, but it seems that Devour has a great working relationship with each business, and we got seated or had a place to stand without a problem. The cost of the tour seemed a little high when I signed up, but it was 100% worth it. The tour flew by in a good way. I didn’t want it to end! The 6:30 to 10 PM timeframe is great because I saw the city come to life at night.

We did the Tapas and Taverns tour today and thoroughly enjoyed it. The venues we visited had less tourists and felt like an authentic Madrileno experience.
