Itinerary
You will start your tour by visiting the beautiful Royal Palace of Madrid, the official residence of the Spanish royal family. Although having been a home to the Kings of Spain from Charles III to Alfonso XIII, today it is only used for state ceremonies.
We will then make our way to the Almudena Cathedral, a Catholic Church consecrated by Pope John Paul II in 1993. You will also see the Museo de la Catedral de la Almudena, a museum that is part of the church.
Next we will visit the Muslim Walls of Madrid, also known as the Arab Walls, located on the road Cuesta de la Vega. The walls are probably the oldest construction surviving in the city, and their construction is linked to the origin of Madrid.
After this we will walk along the Calle Mayor, a centric street in Madrid starting in the Puerta de Sol and ending at the Cuesta de la Vega. Created in the Middle ages, this road became the main thoroughfare of the city in the Early Modern Period.
Along the Calle Mayor we will see the Plaza de la Villa we will see the Plaza de la Villa, one of Madrid’s best-preserved monuments. Located in the historical zone next to the Puerta del Sol Gate it is one of the main medieval centres of Madrid.
You will then walk through La Latina, a historic neighbourhood in the centre of downtown Madrid. The area occupies much of the oldest section of Madrid and is filled with small narrow streets for you to explore.
A major marketplace during the 13th and 14th century, Plaza de la Paja is known for its crowed streets pulsing with life. However, one can find small moments of serenity in the most surprising places.
Plaza de los Carros is a nice little square with a lovely fountain. Here you can enjoy a nice drink and and take in the buzzing atmosphere.
Following on you will then see the Plaza de Puerta Cerrada, located in the La Latina neighbourhood of the historic center of the Spanish city of Marid. Built on a medieval Islamic fort, the La Latina neighbourhood is city’s oldest and one of its liveliest.
Afterwards you will see the Arco de Cuchilleros, a well-known historical archway with stairs leading to the 16th century Plaza Mayor, arguably the most famous plaza in Marid. Well-known historical archway with stairs leading to the prominent, 16th-century Plaza Mayor.
Afterwards you will visit the Mercado San Miguel, located in the heart of the city centre, next to the historic Plaza Mayor. This historic market is not only considered beautiful but is full of food from all around the country.
We will then head to Plaza Mayor, a grand arcaded square in the centre of Madrid. First build during the Habsburg period of Philipp III’s reign, it was once the centre of old Madrid, and is very popular with locals and tourists alike today.
Following, you will see the Real Casa de Postas, an administrative building, neoclassical in style which was the home to the telegraph service offices of the National Police force until it was bought by Madrid’s Regional Government in 1985.
Getting to the end of our tour, we will visit Puerta del Sol, a bustling square in the center of Madrid and one of the city’s most famous sites. It is the centre of the radial network of Spanish roads and also contains the famous clock whose bells mark the traditional eating of the Twelve Grapes and the beginning of a new year.

Great tour with Andrea. She was very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. She held everyone’s attention well. It was good to be in a smaller group, which made it easier to stay together as Madrid was very busy in parts.
Fernando was an amazing guide! It was my second visit to Madrid and he made it a blast. Highly recommend!

The tour guide was a decent man, willing to answer all the questions the best way possible. Overall, i enjoyed the experience.
We had an absolutely wonderful Babylon walking tour this evening with Almu as our guide. Almu is extremely knowledgeable, passionate about passing on her knowledge of (and love for) Madrid and very responsive to questions. She is charming and engaging. We would recommend Babylon Tours (and Almu) in a heart beat. Ann and Tony (Sydney).
Our guide Rosita was very knowledgeable about the history of Madrid and Spain and also art and created a personal experience that we will remember.
Isabella provided a great history through pointing out interesting sites, while weaving in stories. The pace was just right!! group size was great and could hear everything she was saying through use of provided audio equipment. Would recommend.
Jaime was a wonderful guide who brought the past of old Madrid to life for us. We learned a great deal about the history and the little nooks and crannies of the old part of town. He answered all our questions and said we can even contact him work questions after the tour. It was a great way to start our trip in Spain because now we know the places we want to explore further. If you only have an afternoon in Madrid, this is a very interesting overview and to is it was preferable to focusing on one place only. The waking wasn't too much and the meeting place was easy to find.
Rosita was wonderful. Pretty easy walking and informative
Our guide Sergio was awesome! He is a history teacher, so he is super knowledgeable of Madrid's history. It was a Sunday evening, so the Palace and museums were closed, but Sergio showed us all the different neighborhoods, and we felt like it was a perfect overview of the city. We only had one night in Madrid, so this tour was ideal for us. We got lucky; it was just my friend and me plus one other person, so Sergio could answer all our questions and really tailor the tour to what we wanted to see. ¡Muchas gracias, Sergio!
We had Rosita who did a fantastic job of making the history come alive. We had many stops and all had a purpose and a story. Highly recommended.
Flo was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the city
We had an amazing tour with tour guide Flo. We were fortunate enough to be the only attendees which made it a private tour for us. The knowledge of Flo and the way she explained history and architecture with funny anecdotes from the past is genuinely unique. We enjoyed it to the fullest. We can only recommend the tour, as it gives an overview a nutshell about hundreds of years of history, which is quite unique in Madrid compared to other European cities.
Jaime was absolutely incredible! He gave us great explanations and told us so many wonderful stories in history! He was patient and answered all of our questions… He was very professional. Highly recommend using him. Would definitely book again specifically with Jaime.
We did this tour our first day in Madrid and it was well worth it. Our guide, Rosita, was very knowledgeable in spanish history and the events that guided its creation. The city and it’s culture are amazing. We attended a Flaminco show she arranged for us-incredible! Especially knowing the background of the art. Highly recommend
Guide was informative and friendly.
Michele was a wonderful guide! Very informative and happy to share his knowledge. Gave us some insider tips to Madrid We would highly recommend him!
Flo is an amazing tour guide. We enjoyed every moment of our tour. She is so knowledgeable and the tour was extremely informative.
Rosita was a great guide… perfect mix of history and local knowledge. While English is not her first (or second) language she was VERY fluent and easy to understand!
Rosita was fantastic and gave loads of tips
Jaime gave us a comprehensive introduction to the city of Madrid, it's history and culture. The tour was well structured and well paced, with the morning half doesn't exploring the old city centres, and the afternoon taking refuge from the summer sun in the Royal Palace. The way Jaime showed us the relevant symbolism in the art at the palace and then let us connect the dots later in the tour was particularly pedagogical and memorable.
Fernando went above and beyond for us. Shared so much history about this gorgeous city and we learned so much.
We had a great tour with Rosita. She was very knowledgeable on all areas of the good and gave great recommendations on places to eat and shop. The pace was great and I would highly recommend!
Rosita was an amazing guide, she had amazing recommendations. She was super friendly and attentive the whole tour.
Jake did a great job of telling us about Spain's history as it related to the development of downtown
We booked a semi-private tour of Madrid, and it ended up being just my daughter and myself, which made the experience feel incredibly personal and special. Our guide, Sergio, was fantastic—very knowledgeable, professional, and also a lot of fun. He was genuinely enthusiastic about answering all of my questions and shared so much helpful information, not only about Madrid but also tips for our upcoming trip to Seville. He showed us many amazing spots throughout the city and even pointed out shortcuts we can use when exploring on our own in the future. That local insight made a huge difference. I would absolutely book another tour with Sergio the next time we visit Madrid and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a memorable and personalized experience.
Great tour! Very informative. Rosita our guide was very knowledgeable and personable. Excellent English!
Jake was a treat along the tour. He was very knowledgeable about Spanish history and the importance it has on the current city. We so enjoyed the conversation and his ability to give us the details of the stops we made along the way. I HIGHLY recommend Jake to have as a guide.
We had our old city tour with Isabella. She was awesome. She took us to all the key sites. Ended up Russia. She explained everything along the way. We learned so much. We have taken a lot of tours, and Isabella is one of the best guides we’ve ever encountered.

Rosita was a wonderful tour guide. She was very knowledgeable in Madrid’s history. It was a very informative tour and highly recommend it.
Jake was our guide. He seemed to be an expert on history, restaurants, entertainment, and everything about Madrid. His pace was just right. He took us to have a snack and offered multiple personal recommendations on places to eat, drink and shop, not the tourist traps, which I really appreciated. He was very upbeat and considerate. He always tried to keep us in the shade. He was extremely safety conscious when crossing streets and every time we stopped to talk, he did a head count (and there were only 5 of us). Thank you for an excellent tour!
Isabella was amazing! Very knowledgeable and thorough. Wonderful guide :)
