Wear some good walking shoes for this walking loop of Madrid. The best way to determine how you will spend the remainder of your time in a city is to start with an overview of the city’s history and locations of important historical and cultural sites. Our guide Aurora gave us a wonderful history lesson as she escorted us around the city. She started with the first main square that was built when the Spanish King left Toledo to make Madrid the capital of Spain.

Located at the confluence of Alcalá and Gran Vía streets, this emblematic building, one of the symbols of the area, was designed in 1905 by the French architects Jules and Raymond Février to house the insurance company La Unión y el Fénix.
The most famous street in Madrid where you can find all the shops and theaters.
The Cibeles Fountain is one of the symbols of the city. It is located in the center of the square to which it gives its name and is surrounded by the buildings of the Palacio de Buenavista, Palacio de Linares, Palacio de Cibeles, and Banco de España.
It used to be a door of the city, now is the point that separates the Retiro Park to one of the most elegants and expensives neighbourhoods of Madrid, where the most exclusive shops are, "el Barrio de Salamanca"
El Retiro is one of the largest parks of the city of Madrid. The park belonged to the Spanish Monarchy until the late 19th century, when it became a public park. Walk around and enjoy the peace that offers this place, away of the noisy city.
