Terrible experience. Neither the driver nor the ticket taker gave accurate information regarding sights and where to pick up bus

The Big Bus Hop On Hop Off tour is a wonderful way to get a feel for the city. Although I did not exit, there are numerous stops to take advantage of along the route. I planned to get on and get off at the same spot. Unfortunately, there were numerous protests and an accident along our route on the day of the tour. These two incidents caused a 30 minute delay of our tour and the necessity to take detours. Our tour guide was most congenial and helpful as I could not exit where I had been picked up. Despite the inconveniences, I still enjoyed the tour.
The bus tour had many stops… it had 3 lines to choose from. This is a great way to experience Madrid if you have a short stay planned.
The bus was not running on schedule due to a strike/protest in the city center of Madrid. We never actually saw a bus come by in over 1 1/2 hours.
The tour was great to see the entire city. Madrid is a very large city and we underestimated the size. The only opportunity Big Bus has is to be clearer about when and where to pick up the busses. We were second guessing when we would be picked up.
Historic tour ok and plenty of buses but check audio works other 2 routes…… only one bus, long lines and an hour between ….. so see what other buses offer
Delays. Audi stopped working. Missed some stops. Less busses available compared to other companies. Very disappointed. Wasted time and money.
If you want a relaxing way to see Madrid I would recommend the Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus tour. The tour takes you around the city and allows you to pick areas where you would like to spend your time without the hassle of booking multiple Ubers/Bolt trips
It was a great way to see Madrid, the first time, and determine what we wanted to go back and spend more time. We thught the fee was very reasonable. The map and guide were very helpful.
A decent, affordable way of getting your bearings in Madrid in a day. We did the 24 hour ticket (which is plenty!) and did the purple and orange routes. The audio is fine and gives you the basic info. The infrequency of the buses (particularly the orange and blue routes) makes the hop on /off a bit difficult and we narrowly missed buses a couple of times which was v annoying. Like Big Bus experiences in other cities, the quality of the guide onboard makes such a difference. For the most part our guides were pretty silent except for emphasising stop numbers. The exception was Alvaro who was great and really made a difference. If you really want an informed tour of the city with good commentary I would recommend a tuktuk…an hour for €75 was more than enough and really helpful.
We had a short time in Madrid, and this was the perfect way to get an overview of the city. Claudio gave a great English/Spanish narration. We did feel the bus sped past the notable sites a bit too quickly. We just have to come back and see more.
The Big Bus tour was nice. They have three routes to choose from to see most of Madrd. It was super busy with some riders trying to cut the line. The buses were on time and very reliable.
Nice experience and tour of the city of Madrid. Must sit on the top in the open air! The speaker was very loud inside the bus.
Probably usually pretty good, but today there were crowds in town to protest and so streets were closed and some of the routes didn’t run as expected. Because of that, I hope and think, the buses were much too crowded and it was almost impossible to get on, once you got off! My use of the system was much less than usual because of this. Hoping it was just a bad day, as I usually count on Hop On/Hop Off for my city orienation tours!
Love taking the Big Bus and getting to know the city and plan on the must sees. Fran was a great tour guide. Explained so much while being very enthusiastic and entertaining. However this was the first time I purchased a 48 verses a 24 hour and had issues the 2nd day. Was told to save your ticket for the one day but was told that for the 2nd day we would get a new ticket. Well not true, they were not able to scan the ticket for the 2nd day and even with showing my receipt we got a lot of push back. They did let us ride still but each stop had the same issue
Good value for money. 3 different routes on 1 ticket. Got to see the beautiful city of Madrid and surrounding area.
Great tour and great staff! Perfect descriptions of the Madrid landmarks! There is a retractable cover on the top of the bus which came in handy when it started to rain.
Terrible experience. The boarding process was so disorganized. We stood in a queue line and when bus arrived people swarmed ahead. We sat at the top but in far back unable to see anything up and no windows in back. Poorly managed onboarding process by the staff.
Average experience good way to get an overview. City bus has a lot more buses running, though I cannot speak to the quality.
The Tour itself was not bad, but the equipment was not in good order. Of 5 seats we sat in, only 2 of the audio boxes worked correctly. My husband and I end up sharing one set of ear phones so that we could both hear at the same time. No excuse for that.
Although staff are friendly and helpful I would not recommend as buses are few and far between. There were long queues for buses and when one arrived not everyone could get on despite standing in queue for over 30 mins
I was only in Madrid for a day and thought this was a great way to see some sights. I signed up for a slot that was available day of. Turns out that day was a national holiday here, and many streets were closed for a parade, including the 3 locations to begin my tour. I tried reaching out through the ap and nobody responded. I called the number and really had no help. It did say non refundable, but under the circumstances, I was disappointed that a refund was denied. Also, after buying a ticket, they send you an email including a QR code that I assumed was the ticket, so be careful there. You need to go to a specific place to redeem that for a ticket. It is all very confusing. All other tickets for things in Spain have had the QR code as the ticket. A lot of running around.
Not as advertised. Supposedly buses leave every half hour. We waited from 11am to 1230pm at stop 1. Poor.
Attempted to twice contact them about their schedule and never received a response. Clients should be provided with a schedule. In Madrid there were two different Hop On Hop Off busses. This makes it a little confusing. Once we did ride bus, it was informative.
Do not use the Big Bus tour in Madrid. Use city tours instead as they seemed to be on time and lots more buses. The Big Bus was late to start with , once we were on it was ok and got off after a few stops to see the royal palace. Walked to another stop on the tour to pick it up but after waiting 40 minutes got fed up ( 4 of the city tours turned up in that time ) so we walked back to our hotel and missed the other half of the route! Waste of money !!
The Big Bus Madrid Hop-On Hop-Off Tour was a great way to see Madrid and get familiar with the city. It was convenient to take in the major landmarks and attractions while enjoying the views from the open-top bus. We enjoyed the flexibility of being able to hop off to explore different areas and then hop back on to continue sightseeing. It’s a good option for first-time visitors who want to experience more of Madrid without having to figure out all the transportation themselves. If you’re visiting Madrid for the first time, I recommend considering this tour as part of your itinerary. It’s an easy and enjoyable way to see the city at your own pace!
Absolutely awful. Don’t go there. One bus broke down leaving seriously congested buses with long waits at each stop. Also not clear at all at each stop where you get the bus and the commentary went from a very stressed out disjointed live guide to random Spanish music interjected with some useful facts about Madrid. Don’t waste your money or time. Sat for three hours and felt couldn’t get off at the risk of not getting back on as several passengers including ourselves had to wait for another bus as they kept coming full. No capacity and very poor commentary even when you did manage to get a seat. I strongly advise to avoid. You could walk faster.
We took the Historic Route (Purple) and the Orange/Yellow. Though I have been to Madrid before this was a nice way to spend the afternoon learning more about the city.
Audio was shocking. Last time I will use Do not use operator and try another
Our tour was not typical because there was a demonstration downtown that completely disrupted the bus routes. I feel like it would have been a great tour if it were conducted as normal.
NO NO 1 hour wait for the next one. You hop off but you cannot hop in as none is coming back. Close to scum as the competition comes every 15-20 minutes. The Spanish audio in the bus is over all the earphones so unless you are Spanish speaking the English audio is not audible. CHOOSE ANOTHER COMPANY. They claim whatever they like and do not deliver.
Very convenient tour to take. On time and clean. I recommend it for anyone visiting Madrid for the first time
I liked seeing some of the highlights of downtown. Unfortunately, minimal information was given during the tour. Several members of our group felt more disoriented after riding around than before starting!
A handy way to get to know a city when you’re new to it. We tried two of the routes and the information given was both interesting and helpful.
It was a good way to cover a lot of ground of the city. I would suggest scouting out the lines, and intended destinations so you know where to jump off. Totally our fault, but we kinda wanted a passive entertainment w/o a ton of walking on that day. I like that they provide headphones as its usually hard to hear the tour guides.
we were disappointed for two reasons with this tour operator. on the route out to the football stadium there was only one bus per hour which does not lend itself to hop on hop off as you stand around far too long. Also on both the routes we tried we were disappointed with the "commentary" that described the places of interest. We drove by a number of significant monuments without any mention on the commentary . We can't judge if this is better or worse than the obvious competition but it could certainly be improved.
Didn’t have enough time to sit in the bus. As my flight was cancelled and missed 1 1/2 days. So had a difficult time to see anything
Unfortunately we couldn’t get onto the bus as there was a strike, however their customer service was very helpful in giving us a refund.
We love Big Bus and have taken it in every major city we’ve traveled to. Unfortunately, Madrid is just too busy with traffic to enjoy it. We sat in traffic on hot sun twice and eventually opted to take taxi’s. So maybe this just isn’t the best city for this experience.
Experience once we got on the bus was good - issue was with actually locating a bus to travel on. Very unreliable timings and bus stops extremely difficult to locate
Got the 48hr ticket activated at 11:45am so we could use on 3rd morning with a 9:30am start if needed. Three routes - historical was reasonable, other 2 through suburbs and out to a stadium and a bull ring just seemed to be to add to numbers and not overly interesting. MOST annoying was that not told when buying nor afterwards (they had email, phone and app push notices activated) that they would be starting later coz of a long planned city running event. Waited over 2 hours at one of the poorly marked stops but by then was 11:50am, ticket had expired by 5 minutes and refused entry. Messaging app confirmed no extensions for any reason, even when complaint escalated twice after finally talking to a human. Very poor customer service experience. 48 hours is NOT 48 hrs availability.
Lots of availability- good audio guide and routes covered all the main areas of Madrid - would recommend
The buses themselves were fine with reasonable audio guide but there are not enough buses resulting in long waits and the stops are not clearly marked.
Do not work on time even in calm August and the buses looked tired, not as clean asnthey could have been and unconfortable due to the crammed seats with little leg space for taller people (I'm 185cm tall). A positive aspect was the complimentary earphones for the guided tour audio track. On the other hand and from the outside, Turibus buses looked more confortable and in better condition to me but I did not try their service to be able to comment on their quality.
My husband and I enjoyed this. We were able to see so many great spots around Madrid without having to walk all day. It’s perfect for people who want a really relaxing way to sightsee. Just know there is sometimes a long wait for the next bus.
The Blue Line frequency is quite low, so if you get off at one stop, you may have to wait almost an hour for the next bus. This is something that could definitely be improved. Other than that, everything else was good.
Only had one day to explore Madrid, the Hop on Hop Off bus was a perfect way to see the city. There was plenty of room on the bus and the audio worked perfectly. The bus picked up around every 20 minutes so hopping off and hopping back on was easy
The historic route didn’t really go by much of the historic buildings. We sat in traffic and were on busy streets.. couldn’t see much from the bus and the audio was minimal.
Don’t book this for your first day in the city, especially if coming from North America. We underestimated how tired we would be. This tour doesn’t run until midnight like hop on hop off tours in most other cities. It ends at 7:30pm, so we only got to experience a limited portion of it. The sites that we were able to see were worth it.
It was a great way to be introduced to Madrid. We did most of all 3 routes. It was hard to know exactly where the pickup points were without the app as there were no signs at the stops. We also wish the buses had been more frequent. Once we got the app, it was easier to navigate and we could see where the individual buses were.
