Both places are really worth the trip. Both are unique and beautiful, I would have loved some extra time in Avila. Our guide Rachel and bus driver Tomas were great, very professional and prepared.

Itinerary
The work was started in 1090 but most of the defensive wall appears to have been rebuilt in the 12th century. The enclosed area is an irregular rectangle of 31 hectares with a perimeter of some 2,516 meters, including 88 semicircular towers. The walls have an average width of 3 metres and an average height of 12 metres. The nine gates were completed over several different periods.
The Alcázar of Segovia is a medieval alcázar located in the city of Segovia, a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Rising out on a rocky crag above the confluence of two rivers near the Guadarrama mountains, it is one of the most distinctive castle-palaces in Spain by virtue of its shape – like the bow of a ship. The Alcázar was originally built as a fortress but has served as a royal palace, a state prison, a Royal Artillery College and a military academy since then. It is currently used as a museum and a military archives building.
Segovia Aqueduct, a world UNESCO world heritage site. t is one of the best-preserved elevated Roman aqueducts and the foremost symbol of Segovia, as evidenced by its presence on the city's coat of arms.

Everything was well organised and enjoyable from start to finish. A special thank you to our guide Sara and driver Jose. Sara was incredibly professional, friendly, and so knowledgeable. She explained everything in an engaging way with humour, making the tour both informative and fun. She was always attentive to the group, answered every question, and made sure everyone had a great experience. Highly recommend this tour!
Both Avila and Segovia are picturesque lovely towns. Day trip from Madrid is a nice exposure to plan for a future trip. The “get directions” function on the Viator app will put you in proximity to the tour start. Allow time for a little hide and seek to locate the actual starting point. This should be improved when using their app.
Fun time in Avila and Segovia. Good tour guide, amazing sights and worth the money. Good learning of the history.
Rachel the guide is perfect! She is welcoming and engaging; detailed and professional. She is superb with balancing the guests’ needs while keeping to the schedule all with good humour and easy-going warmth. I appreciate her level of detail and care for guests. I hope she is well supported by the tour company.
It is a good day trip from Madrid to be able to see both Avila & Segovia. Raquel is very knowledgeable about Madrid, Avila & Segovia and she speaks very good English. You have some personal time in both towns. Well worth the time & cost.
The tour to both places was great. We would've liked more time in Avila but, understand the time constraints of visiting both cities in one day. If you're not bilingual, go with the English only tour. Our guide Angie was great but, very hard to understand in English through the earbud. She really knew her stuff but, I could understand her better by standing close to her listening without the earbud.
Great Pace, Educational and great value
Excellent tour; we had enough time to enjoy it without any rush. The bus left on time and the activity covered everything that was advertised. Our guide, Angie, was also very friendly and answered all our questions.
Enjoyed our trip to Segovia & Avila. Guide was great & tour of Segovia alcazar was fascinating.
They were puntual, confortable buses, friendly guide, good info and explained in detail about the places visited. Very pleasant fay!
I loved both tours our tourguides Angie and Ramiro were great. We need to come back to enjoy them fully.
Excellent guide Well organized
Wonderful full day experience led by Rachel, who couldn’t do enough for our group and whose knowledge was outstanding.
Jose, the guide was lovely, very friendly and full of information. Tour was well paced, the transport was comfortable. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Comfortable bus from Madrid with Ramiro as guide and Ibo as conductor. Arrived to Avila and Ramiro gave us an orientation to the sites and very knowledgeable about the culture and medieval architecture. The same with Segovia. The drive was scenic and uneventful. It is a walking tour once you get to the towns. The towns have a lot of hills and stairs. My mom 88 year old had difficulty walking so we hired a taxi and rode to see all the sites(cathedral, Alcazar, Monasterio de San Geronimo) expectacular medieval architecture. The taxi just charged us $20 for 3 people. I loved the experience.
Rachel or Raquel is very congenial, cheerful and approachable and explained very well the background sng significance of he important points of tge tour
Great trip, just enough down time. Lots of ground covered. Interesting to hear and understand the history
The tour to Avila and Segovia was quite good! Our tour guide Angy was friendly and audible through the radio sets, and she did an amazing job switching between Spanish and English with the same content. The informational content of the walking tour was okay, covering broad historical strokes. I wished there was more detail, but given a bilingual tour, it was good enough. The chosen sites were great, and we didn’t have to walk too far or up too steep of slopes to see them. The muralla and the aqueduct were highlights for sure. Transport was without issue, although the tour building was a little hard to find. Overall, solid tour, and worth the money.
We were picked up on Time by our Guide Ramero he was very knowledgeable about segovia and Avila
Remiro was such a great tour guide. All other customers were Spanish and only my families were speaking English, but Remiro took good care of us in the whole trip. The trip was super fun and yet we have plenty of time to buy souvenirs. Segovia was a beautiful city and everyone would love it. Highly recommended.
My tour guide, Ramiro, was professional and shared many fascinating stories and historical insights about the ancient towns of Ávila and Segovia throughout the walking tour. I fully immersed myself in the beautiful architecture and gained a thorough understanding of these cities thanks to Ramiro’s fascinating and entertaining explanations. What an enjoyable journey!
Great tour, 👍into the hand of the guide Alejandro! 👌It was a great speaker!
Nice the guide Alejandro, that have illustrated wonderful cities! And the bus driver was great!
Great tour with Yellow Tours and Alejandro guide! We strongly recommended !
I visit Avila and Segovia, I was taken on trip by Mr. Alejandro. He was really great with explanation and showed us really nice places. Highly recommend book using Big Bus Madrid.
Andy did a good job as a tour guide explaining all key places, their history, etc. During our visit to Segovia. Big Bus tour company did a food job with the pick up and drop off timing, communication, etc.
This trip was the perfect balance of having structured tours with our guide / group and having free time. Our guide, Rachel, gave excellent bi-lingual tours (Spanish/English) of both towns and answered questions along the way. Our tour included the Alcazar in Segovia which we highly recommend.
We took the Avila-Segovia tour. The bus driver Guillermo and the tour guide Alejandro are an excellent team, they took us safely to our destinations and always caring about the comfort of the passengers. Alejandro was very friendly, fun and engaging, very knowledgeable about the places we visited and answered all our questions. I highly recommend this tour.
Our guide Angie was excellent & very knowledgeable. Bus drive Laura was professional & extremely safe. A wonderful day.
Although the tour was well organised, I would not choose to do a combined Spanish and English tour again. The guide had his work cut out explaining everything twice, and in so doing lost the excitement and personalisation that can make a tour. Segovia was a delight - it’s a beautiful city with lots to explore.
The tour was amazing with the reasonable price. Our tour guide and bus drive Will and Alex were able to provide safe transportation and history behind the locations. We were looking to visit a specific church and was able to have the opportunity to see it thanks to the tour guide. Really would recommend this breathtaking experience.
Great tour. Rachel had lots of interesting knowledge to share.
Nice tour, into.a prpfesiomal guide as Alejandro. Nice cities! Bus Comfortable#
The Main guide would not tell us his name— a young man of average build with a full beard. While his command of English is fine for communication in a non professional setting, his vocabulary and accent were insufficient for a tour guide. He seemed to realize this. His descriptions in Spanish were long and detailed, while his communication in English was more a brief summary than a description. The two guides he turned us over to in Sagovia and Toledo were good. The woman in Segovia, a native, was quite knowledgeable. The two cities have wonderful histories and are spectacularly beautifully. I enjoyed the tour despite problems with the guide.
We enjoyed our day trip from Madrid to Aville and Segovia. Our guide Ramero was an energetic speaker who told us many interesting facts as we toured the world heritage sites in both towns. We highly recommended this tour through Big Bus Tours.
Excellent trip enhanced by our guide, Irene (Irena). Conducted in Spanish and English. Expect to leave Madrid at 9am and return to Madrid about 7:15pm.
Raquel our tour guide was excellent ! Very knowledgeable and friendly ! Ample time spent in both cities .
Very pleased with the whole day. Everthing was planned very well and the time spent on each place were just perfect. Our english speaking guide Ramiro, did a great job with explaining the sights and has good knowledge.
Informative and fun. Ophelia knows a lot of history which helped to bring the cities to life. She also made some good recommendations for restsurants and shopping and spent time answering questions.
Very enjoyable day trip with driver Javier and guide Ramiro. The tours of each city were very interesting and informational, and we were given excellent suggestions for where to spend our free time and where to eat.
Very nice tour of ávila and segovia hitting the main attractions. The crowd size was not too big and the pace was perfect. We also enjoyed the down time to spend on our own. The tour guide and bus driver were very friendly and helpful.
Ramiro and Xavier were amazing . Ramiro took time to explain in Spanish and English and even a bit of Italian for all. He moved the tour along , as well as taking time to explain history , extra info, places to eat, were to visit. He made sure our tour stayed together and that we all understood and enjoyed the tour.
Excelent team javi, Ramiro and Tamara, nice time, very learning day
Very nice format to see two cities: about 45 min walk with the tour guide (Angi) to get oriented, then some time to explore (about 1 hr free time in Avila, about 2 or 2.5 hrs in Segovia). Tour was bilingual on the bus, but split into a separate English or Spanish speaking group in each city. Comfortable bus, though no bathroom on the bus.
Had a fantastic day. Our guide Angy was friendly and accommodating and provided us with the history and context of our destinations in Spanish and English. She and our driver Javier also kept us on good time! In total we had just under 2hrs in Ávila and just under 4hrs in Segovia. I opted out of the guided tour elements to explore by myself and at greater speed than a tour group. This gave me time to cover a lot of distance, visit the interiors of the cathedrals, basilica, the Alcázar, and walk the walks of Ávila both up top and round the outside. For the highlights (the walls of Ávila and the Alcazar and Aqueduct of Segovia), this tour allows plenty of free time. Thanks for an unforgettable day!
Angy was great- very good overview of both cities and time to explore on your own. Highly recommend paying extra 8 euro to visit walls in Avila.
Excellent experience with our guides Miranda and Jose Luis. Very friendly and knowledgeable.
Had a great time in Avila and Segovia. Both Ramiro, our tour guide and Alberto made this trip very memorable. Ramiro is very knowledgable and friendly.
Excellent experience for a first-time visit to Madrid with family.
