Our first time on the surfboard was a great experience. Thanks to our instructors Tomas and Cecilio. They were super friendly, patient and great instructors. Also for our little girl. They make her feel comfortable. It was super fun!

I had such an amazing surfing lesson! The whole experience was fantastic – I learned so much in a short time and felt more confident with every wave. The instructor was patient, supportive, and made everything easy to understand. I had a lot of fun and can honestly say it was one of the best things I’ve tried. We had our first ever surf lesson with Madeira Surf Center today and it was such an amazing experience! 🌊🏄‍♀️ The whole team was super friendly and welcoming from the start. Our instructor Jason was absolutely fantastic – funny, patient and incredibly helpful. He gave us great tips, explained everything clearly and made the whole lesson really fun. You can tell he truly loves what he does! There were three of us and it was our first time on a surfboard, but we actually managed to catch some waves and had the best time. Lots of laughs, great vibes and an unforgettable experience! 🤙 Definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Madeira. We already know it won’t be our last time surfing! We can’t wait to come back to Madeira and surf with Madeira Surf Center again. Highly recommend if you want to try surfing or just have an awesome time in the ocean! 🌊

Sicilio was awesome, he had all 5 of us up on our board by the end of the lesson, showing huge patience and kindness. Being August, the beach and water was busy which made it more complicated, but we loved it and are booking again. Wetsuits were clean too, had an amazing time thank you Ruben and team!!

I received a surfing course as a gift ;). I was excited but had no idea what I was getting into, as I was completely inexperienced. However, from the very first moment, I felt comfortable and safe. Jason had a very professional approach, patience, and a highly positive and encouraging attitude towards me as a beginner, which made the whole experience very enjoyable. I now carry an amazing feeling from riding my first waves. The explanation was very clear to me—even though I am a foreigner and my English isn't perfect, I understood everything perfectly. I had an amazing experience with Madeira Surf Center! The instructors were fantastic – super friendly, supportive, and truly professional. The atmosphere was relaxed but well-organized, and you could tell they really cared about giving us the best possible conditions. They actually waited a bit to start the lesson so we could catch better waves instead of rushing into it, which I really appreciated. Even though they apologized for the delay, I was glad they made that choice – the waves were totally worth it, especially for a beginner like me. I managed to catch quite a few, and it made the whole experience unforgettable. I’d go back in a heartbeat. Highly recommended!

I’ve taken surf lessons in a few different countries, and nothing has come close to the experience I had here. First of all, the vibe is so warm and welcoming. Whether it’s your first time on a board or your fiftieth, the instructors actually care and make the whole day fun, motivating, and low-pressure. I was lucky enough to be taught by Kevin and Jason, and honestly… they made the whole trip. Kevin is super knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely passionate about helping you improve—he breaks things down in a way that just clicks. And Jason's got the best energy, always hyping everyone up, cracking jokes, and making sure no one takes themselves too seriously (in the best way). And behind it all is Ruben, the owner, who truly cares about every guest’s experience. You can tell he’s built something special here—his love for the ocean, for Madeira, and for creating an inclusive surf community shines through in every detail. Each lesson was well-organized, safety-focused, and tailored to the day’s conditions.

I didn’t like Seixal beach but these guys have changed my mind. It was my first time surfing and really love that! Great fun and perfect for beginners. I joined group class.

I booked a private lesson, and although it was my first time surfing, everything went smoothly, and I had a lot of fun! Ruben was very kind in organizing, and Jason, as an instructor, gave me great advice, so I was able to ride some waves already! Compliments to the whole team, definitely recommended!

I highly recommend this surf school—10/10! I took two lessons in the summer at different spots and returned this winter for another lesson, and already planning to take more with them! Before getting in the water, the instructors thoroughly explain the technique and how everything works, followed by practice on the beach. Their personalized approach and positive atmosphere in the water make the experience enjoyable and productive. They consistently provide valuable advice, and I’ve noticed significant progress in my skills. The group sizes are not too big, so the instructors can give individual attention. They also ensure there’s enough space in the water to avoid crowding with other surfers or swimmers. Plus, they provide high-quality equipment.

I booked a combination of surf lodge and 3 days of surf lessons, the accommodation is newly renovated and beautiful, located a little above São Vicente and very quiet with a stunning view. The surf instructors are very competent and helpful, the time flew by and I made good progress. Thank you very much, I had a great time!

Friendly service with high quality equipment, will definitely be back. The shop is in a great location and very close to the nearest break.

On a group trip (8 women) we spent a morning during with Eneko and Kevin at Sexial. We spent 2 hours in the water taking turns surfing. They showed us the basics on land and then helped us in the water to stand up on the board. They were both very friendly and helpful and we had a great morning with them.

Visiting Madeira I made a last minute decision to try surfing there. I have some experience but needed guidance to surf those waves. Madeira Surf Centre was absolutely amazing from the moment I contacted them! They are very experienced and fully equipped with everything you need to surf, I didn't need to bring anything with me which allowed me to travel light. It felt like surfing with friends, I got the waves of my life! Thank you Madeira Surf Centre! Totally recommend!

We booked a three course package. It was an amazing experience! We learned the basics incredibly fast, thanks to the amazing coaching. The groups are small, meaning that each student gets individualised tips and tricks. We felt safe the entire time. Overall, a 10/10 experience. The views were also amazing! And after each lesson, we were given pictures and videos of the surf session, which is super helpful but also a fun memory. Particular thanks to the amazing instructors and Ruben!

I don't recommend due to the number of people in the group. As a part of the camp, we were merged with other groups. It is a lot of people on the beach and then in the water. Not safe, you have to wait for your turn, not too much attention. The beach is one of the most beautiful in Portugal. It is true but it is tiny in reality. So there is no pleasure to be in the water in large group. Waves are small and close to the shore. You finish on the surface of the beach. The main guy is not so friendly and not welcoming. It feels he is doing a favor to you by explaining and giving a wetsuit. Beach is nice, water is warm, but not about the surf center.

Our kids wanted a first surfing-experience (8 and 10 years), so we booked lessons with Madeira Surf Center. The teachers were amazing, super childfriendly and gave good explanations. They made sure everyone was safe and really helped us book progress. We had a lovely time and had lots of fun (kids + parents :-))! Thank you to the instructors Eneko & Francesco. Barbara - Belgium

Do not book your lessons here as you might loose your money. The surf beach has terrible black rocks that hurt your feet especially when the shore break hits you hard. The spot works only on low tide. On the website they give you three options over the day however lessons are only once per day on low tide. If you book on a different time you might loose your money. I tried to get back the money for myself and my son without succes up to now. Madeira in general is not made for surfing, there are almost no beaches and if you find one it has terrible rocks, better to go on the large sandy beaches in mainland Portugal.

They are absolute scammers. Me and my friend lost the flight so we couldn’t do our surf lessons so we asked a refund. They didn’t answer to our messages, calls, and then they refused to refund us. So they just stole 360€ from me and my friend. Terrible. They’re not serious.

Incredible experience - Ruben was the best and the other guys at the Surfschool are incredibly nice! Really had the time of my life and would advice to anyone!!!

I recently took a surf lesson with a friend at the Madeira Surf Center and it was an amazing experience. Our instructor, Eneko, was excellent in every aspect. He was super clear in his explanations, and his kindness and patience made us feel comfortable, despite it being our first lesson. Eneko's passion for surfing was contagious, and his professionalism was evident throughout the lesson. I would absolutely recommend this experience at their surf school to anyone who wants to get into surfing or improve their skills and I look forward to returning to Madeira for more lessons.

What ever some people wrote about Ruben, the owner of Madeira Surf Center and the Surf Lodge: this guy and his wife are working a lot for this projects!!! And they always interested for the wellbeing of their guest´s, how they can help or even asking them for advices for example developing any things to make the experience for everyone even better. It was my 2nd time at this place. I booked the whole package: Madeira Surf Lodge for one week with 5 Surf Lessons. The Lodge is a wonderful house up in the hills of Sao Vicente with a paradisiacal garden. The apartments are clean, well mantained and safe. Best place on earth to relax. The breakfast gives you everything you need. Ruben always was interested for my well-being. The Surf lesson´s were a great expierence. Ruben´s advices were immensly useful for my learning and to go on with fun. I was there without a car, so Ruben always picked me up to the beach. A real kind gesture!!! Maybe someone would say it´s to expensive. Yes you pay a lot of money. But the real good things in life have their price. FACT!!! Especially good work and care, beautiful places and awesome experiences I had there meanwhile FOR THE SECOND TIME. Obrigado :-)

The worst place for board rentals. The owners are arrogant and not flexible. Very overpriced compare to other places in the island.

Overall experience is great. Either you are a beginner or you already surf many times, the team is really good and helps you improving. We had a very good time !

My son, husband and I enjoyed a private lesson with Kevin. The website says they genuinely want you to succeed and that’s very true. After every try, Kevin would tell you what to improve on and would give you loads of encouragement when you do good. This truly is for all skill levels, they start you off small. Ruben was very helpful with answering questions when I was booking and even allowed me to push our appointment to the following day to ensure sunny weather. I will be coming back to Madeira and when I do, I will be taking some more lessons.

I booked a couples lesson for my significant other and I. Kiki was an incredible teacher, explained surfing so well. I got up on my first try in the water and my significant other on his second try! We got to truly enjoy the water and the waves with Kiki encouraging and explaining everything so well. The water was perfect, even in March. I highly recommend surf lessons through Madeira Surf Center for anyone interested! This was a highlight for our entire trip through Portugal.

It has always been a dream I’ve had to surf Jardim do mar (ever since reading about it in barbarian days)- an ever receding dream of an old and aging surfer - the one last wave kinda of dream Rubin and Madeira surf centre - moved the dial on that dream and added to my hopes and aspirations as a surfer - I no longer dream of paddling out and catching a wave - but of coming back and doing it justice 🙃 I’ll be honest - there is no way in hell I’d have paddled out on my own - I’m old enough to realize the value of local knowledge and having a safely plan to get in and out of the water on a spot like this is priceless Can only thank Ruben again - for helping make my dreams a reality

We spent a few nights in the surf lodge as we had booked lessons here and it was so worth it. Rubin has created a great team here, we had Jason (one of the twins) for our 7:30am lesson, and we both came away having learned way more in this one lesson than all the lessons we took elsewhere combined. We feel more confident in our surfing and on taking on some bigger waves next time. The lodge is just a beautiful place to stay, we had our own room and a shared kitchen. Food was provided for before and after the lesson if we wanted. The garden they are creating is amazing, and it was nice to see some of the old surfboards about the place.
