We had a fantastic surfing experience with our two children, aged 11 and 17. The instructors were attentive, friendly, fun and very encouraging, and we all had a great time! The only small suggestion would be to offer a little more progression towards the end of the lesson for those who pick it up quickly. We were all complete beginners, but by the end our 17-year-old was already confident and would have loved to try a slightly higher level and bigger waves. Overall, a brilliant experience — we really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it! 🏄‍♀️🌊

Very professional and super well organized surf school! All the instructors (Magarida, Daniel, Miguel, .. ) I have encountered are very knowledgeable and passionate about the sports and caring for everyone in the water. They also help you progress in even just three days. AND free high quality photos after every session! Organisational-wise, usually they do a package with fixed days but upon request Carina even customised the time plan for sessions according to our holiday plan. It was my first surfing experience and it was amazing! We got picked up from Funchal and were taken directly to the beach. The instructions were clear and all of the instructors were super nice and friendly! We were guided through the whole process in the water and it didn’t feel scary. Would recommend it to everyone! Would definitely do it again🥰

Amazing surf school - very nice people, very positive, enthusiastic and passionate surf teachers, and you get pictures of the lesson afterwards. Totally recommend. We also went with another school, but New wave is definitely our favorite.

We had an excellent time during our 2 hour group surf lesson! Got to catch a lot of waves and even though there were 20 of us, there were 4 instructors so we each got turns surfing. The beach we were originally meant to meet at (alagoa) was packed (no parking available) and had small waves, so our meeting place changed to Maiata beach. Parking there was complicated, but once we figured it out it was stress free. I’d suggest getting to the meet up place early to avoid stress around parking. Over all, it was so much fun and I’d absolutely go surfing with Madeira new wave again!!!

We had an excellent surfing lesson with Madeira New Wave this morning! The kids (13 and 11) really enjoyed the lesson and both got up on their feet. The instructors were so friendly and enthusiastic, they worked really hard to make the lesson safe and fun, having plenty of people in the water to get people where they needed to be to catch lots of waves, we really appreciate it. We will be back next time - thank you!

The equipment was in excellent condition, and they catered effortlessly to everyone in the group—from complete beginners to more intermediate surfers. As a beginner, I genuinely felt safe and in control on every single wave. André provided clear, helpful guidance each time, and was incredibly encouraging, supportive, and patient throughout. We were also sent loads of photos afterwards, which was such a great bonus. It was absolutely brilliant, and we’ll be recommending it to everyone we know heading there!

Absolutely loved my lessons with New Wave! I'm a repeat beginner, surfing too infrequently so I forget how every time, and the team at New Wave made me feel so comfortable. André is a great instructor, very positive and relaxed. He is probably the best instructor I have had. He breaks things down and makes sure to find new ways to give feedback if something isn't clicking. He really seems to love what he does and was very invested in my progression. Carina was a wonderful host, she picked us up from our hotel in Porto da Cruz every morning (we booked a package with an affiliate hotel) and gave us the lowdown on the conditions on the drive to Machico. Her enthusiasm was infectious, as good as a second coffee to get us ready for the waves. Cannot recommend New Wave more! Thank you, André and Carina!

Had such a fab time with André and Carina for 3 days surfing and stay. The hotel was perfect overlooking the sea from the balcony and then everything was organised seamlessly for surf. Initially had just rented a board but after seeing André in action joined two lessons and they were hands down some of the best teaching I've ever had. Thank you so so much xxx

I can't compliment the team at New Wave Madeira enough! My wife, my 9-year-old, my 6-year-old, and I booked 3 days of surfing lessons with New Wave Madeira. The 9- and 6-year-old bodyboarded, and my wife and I surfed. Andre and Margareta were both great teachers. Margareta was especially good with the kids, and Andre was fantastic all around. The lessons were in a group setting with varying skill levels, with some people having zero experience and others having more. Attention was given to everyone, and it seemed everyone improved and had a lot of fun. They selected appropriate surf breaks for beginners that would still offer good waves for beginner-plus surfers and family-friendly waves for our younger children. Overall, it was safe, fun, and high-quality. The photos are a great bonus! Carina was on shore during the lessons and got great photos of all of us. This is especially helpful for improving, as you can analyze what you might be doing wrong and right when catching a wave! My wife had never surfed before, and I surf whenever I can (a few times a year), but I never had lessons and was self-taught. My wife was standing and catching green waves on day one. All my bad habits from surfing without instruction were quickly identified, and great advice was given for improvement. I felt like I improved dramatically over the 3 days. After our lessons, I booked two days with a private guide with New Wave Madeira to check out another, more advanced wave. My guide, Miguel, was also a great teacher and helped me with wave selection and paddle timing, and gave me advice to improve my technique. He kept it safe but still challenged and encouraged me to catch waves at the edge of my ability, which is exactly what I was looking for in this experience. I caught some of the best waves of my life thanks to the New Wave Madeira Team!

Fantastic surfing experience! Andre and Margarita were excellent instructors for me and my sister (26 and 30 y/os with no previous experience). They were kind, funny, clear and really patient. We loved going for a surf in the water at Maiata beach (lovely beach with lots of space for different schools to surf). The experience was great value for money, 2 h in the water with boards, wetsuits and pictures included (plus warm up beforehand). Would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in surfing!

A stay in Madeira wouldn't be the same without trying surfing! At first, I wasn't sure if it was worth it, but I gave it a go and I don't regret it 😄 The instructors of Madeira New Wave made me feel safe and confident - they explained everything clearly before we went into the water and they watched over us the whole time. It was great!!! I enjoyed every second of it. At first i was scared, but the instructors made sure i was okay. The staff was overall really friendly. I would 100% go again. I recommend this to everyone. It kinda brings together the whole island experience.

I did the 5-day surf course with Madeira New Wave Surf School and honestly had the best time! Everything was super well organized, and the communication from the start was great. It was my first time surfing. I did 5 surfing lessons with New Wave in Madeira and it was an amazing experience. Thanks to Daniele for taking care of the newbies, André for the good surfing tips and motivation, not to forget Carina for capturing pictures of me doing the warrior pose on my board. Outstanding atmosphere and instructor experience. Even not all days conditions were good, but it's nature. From the instructor experience. André and other guys are really good, positive and helpful. Top-notch level of safety, attention to the persona and mistakes/things to improve, organisation and punctuality. And in my case surf suits were always dry, even after day after day sessions, who knows what I'm talking about, you know how good it is :) Special "Obrigado" to André.

My grown children and I had an amazing day with Madeira New Wave! The instructors were fun and patient and enthusiastic! They set us up for success and we were excited to feel success in our first attempt at surfing. I would highly recommend Maderia New Wave. Great instructors, lots of value for the money. Lessons happen on a very good beach for beginners, with consistent waves, almost point break. Highly recommended!

We were there as beginners, and not everything went smoothly from the start. That is exactly where the whole team showed its best side. My girlfriend didn't feel well for a moment after the first wave because she had swallowed a lot of salt water. They took care of her immediately. One of the instructors then went into calmer water with her alone so that she could still have a nice sense of achievement. That was really attentive and warmhearted. You can tell that the entire crew does everything to make everyone feel comfortable, whether they are beginners or advanced. Highly recommended! 🏄‍♂️🌊

Perfect guidance for two inexperienced children aged 10 and 12, the supervisors took their time extensively, equipment was in order and everything was excellently arranged.

Great experience! Carina and her team were outstanding in every way! I booked a group surf lesson, while my partner rented only the equipment (wetsuit + board) without participating in the lesson. As for the lesson, this is impeccably organized: after the delivery of the equipment we were explained the characteristics of the beach where we will have surfed. Before entering the water we warmed up, we were taught the technique to get up on the board and ride the wave and we were explained the rules of behavior and safety to respect once we entered the sea. In the water, the participants of the lesson are constantly assisted by the instructors, always nice and helpful, who provide all the support necessary to be able to catch the wave. Another positive aspect is the fact that the lessons are organized in small groups, so as to allow the instructors to follow everyone more closely. Last but certainly not least, Carina took pictures of us during the lesson which she then shared with all the participants (for free) to be able to have a memory of the experience. What about it? For me it was a more than positive experience, so much so that I regretted not being able to do further lessons due to the end of the holiday. If you are looking for a surf school on the island that combines professionalism, availability and good vibes, Madeira New Wave is definitely the one for you! Last note: both as soon as we arrived and as we left the beach, our instructor took care to collect all the plastic in his path, thus helping to keep the environment clean: a behavior that did not go unnoticed by our eyes and that impressed us in an extremely positive way!

asi nejlepší surf škola, kterou jsem kde všude možně po světě měla. na každou lekci jsou vždy skoro 4 instruktoři- 1. vše fotí ze břehu (takže i foto v ceně!), 2. pomáhá dostávat se zpátky na lineup ze břehu a další 2 jsou s vámi ve vodě, pomáhají vám s každou vlnou a ihned dostanete i feedback. a všichni jsou neuvěřitelní sympaťáci! vždy se nejdříve společně řeší podmínky toho dne a stav vln, následně je super warmup a pak se jde do vody. velmi doporučuju!
