Real Life, Mountains & Sea Cliffs (Nun´s Valley View) - Half Day 4x4 Tour

Yet again a fantastic experience with Miguel. This time it was just the two of us, having done previous trips with the whole family ranging in age from early 20’s to mid 80’s, but it was still a wonderful insight into hidden Madeira. We saw vineyards and we walked through plantations of fruit and vegetables with the back drop of magnificent scenery. We also drove off road into the highlands which provided stunning views of the Nun’s valley without crowds or other Jeep tours in convoy. We tasted the best freshly made Poncha on the island - and we have tried plenty. Thank you Miguel again. Absolutely recommend Miguel and his personalised tours to any visitors to Madeira.

Miguel adapted our planned trip to the weather conditions and gave us a thoroughly enjoyable and fun experience. He strives to avoid tourist-heavy destinations and crowds. Some fun off roading in our open topped, 77 year old vehicle and a couple of visits to local bars. Also visited the sky walk. We loved it. If you were a nervous traveler this may not be for you. Our Tour with miguel was amazing. We have seen a lot of local spots. Drink the best freshmade poncha, eat madeiracookies and have awsome and special views. Lot of fun in his car by driving offroad. We used Miguel in 2022 and had a fabulous trip to the NW so on our return to Madeira in 2025 we booked again for the NE trip. Miguel contacted us on the morning of the trip advising us that his NE trip, although he would be happy to do would not be enjoyable due to inclement weather conditions. He recommend the central trip. We were disappointed not to be able to go to the high peaks and Santana but Miguel was spot on with his advice and we did the central trip. This exceeded our expectations and the adventure was exhilarating taking many non tourist trails and the views of the nuns valley, off road trails and outstanding view points made the trip very special. Additionally, Miguel is passionate about the eco system and agriculture of Madeira and took us to places to illustrate this. The flexibility and adaption that Miguel offers is worth an extra star. Miguel was a great tour guide to show me views that other tours do not show. A lot of information on real life in Madeira. Including how locals manage living up in the mountains with limited road access. I learned a lot and enjoyed the whole experience.

Amazing jeep tour with my mother - her first time to Madeira and Miguel made sure she saw the ‘real deal’ including an impromptu stop at a local bar where we sampled poncha and made friends with the locals. Best day with Miguel. We had to delay our tour due to rain. Miguel kept in touch sending weather updates and was totally flexible. I appreciated his honestly in that touring in the rain would not be fun nor would we see any of the sites well. Luckily, it cleared up and we were on the way. The tour exceeded our expectations. We laughed, smiled and learned! Stopped at a great local bar for some fresh poncha, went off roading in the clouds, and saw stunning views. Look forward to touring with Miguel again!

My family of four spent a full month in Madeira and Miguel's jeep tour was one of the top three highlights. Miguel is smart, personable and crazy knowledgeable about pretty much every aspect of Madeira. He could engage with adults and young kids alike. We did a half day tour, made multiple stops at levadas and lookout points, and one for a snack/poncha. We felt like we actually got a slice Madeiran life rather than seeing the more commonly trafficked areas. I have already recommended this tour to several people. The ride itself felt safe, even when scaling very steep hills. Miguel is a safe driver and the equipment itself was sturdy and in impeccable condition. I would do this tour again if I am ever back in Madeira.

This tour was absolutely amazing! I was searching for a smaller company because I thought the tour would be more personalized and that is exactly what we got. Not only did Miguel show us beautiful scenery, he also showed us the culture of the land. He explained the way people live on Madeira and even allowed us to see firsthand the banana farms! However, he made the tour exciting and fun, there were no dull moments during the tour. The off-road parts were also very fun and it felt safe the whole time. Miguel also gave advice as to what places to visit both during and after the tour. When we reached out with questions a few days after the tour, he supplied us with answers. All in all, this tour was wonderful! I couldn’t recommend it enough.

We had a great experience! Miguel was super informative and showed us the most scenic and beautiful views of Funchal’s mountains, sea cliffs, and Nun’s Valley. Miguel really takes the time to teach you about the island and takes you places others don’t typically go. He took us off-roading to show us the lavadas and took the time to show us the various fruits and vegetables grown in the areas. One of my favorite parts was when we stopped by the village bar and he had us try the local drinks; we were able to see how homemade ponchas are made and they are incredibly tasty! Miguel also took time to take photos of us with the beautiful views. We also visited the skywalk and the fishing boats in Camara de Lobos. I highly recommend Miguel. He really personalized our tour and it was absolutely fantastic! We highly recommend him.

Wow, what an experience! Miguel is so knowledgeable on the culture, vegetation and way of life in Madeira. We watched a local make the traditional poncho and got to taste test it. I loved walking through the banana plantations and under the grape vine canapies. He took us to some amazing lookouts, away from the tourist hotspots. We saw the real Madeira and how the locals live up in the mountains...coupled with some off road 4 x 4 driving made it such a fun experience. Well worth the time and money

A great tour. Miguel was very knowledgable and explained at the start what we'd be doing. One moment we'd be on a main road, the next down a local back street or off-roading. We saw so many fruits and saw some of the levanda walks which we'd like to do in future Some great local knowledge and recommendations for lunch. We stopped at a local bar for coffee and some pontcha which was a lot nicer than what we'd tried before. The tour was in an old Portuguese army jeep which added the the experienced and definitely needed for the sharp inclines and off roading. Miguel often stopped to show us the vines or gardens with multiple crops growing. Miguel was friendly and a great tour guide. Would recommend and would do a longer tour, earlier in our holiday next time.

Absolutely fantastic tour. Saw plenty of areas we would never have seen in Madeira otherwise. Miguel was a very hospitable host always willing to answer questions and give plenty of information about everywhere we went great views not on the main tourist route and a little bit of off-roading thrown in for good measure. I’d def suggest Miguel is far better and personable than your run of the mill mainstream tours.

We had a great morning discovering Funchal and the surrounding mountains and valleys. Miguel was a wonderful host full of knowledge of not only the flora and fauna but also the culture and history of the area. Taking time to ensure we explored the highs of the mountains and the lows of the valleys, explaining the history of levadas and making sure we were able to experience the foods and drinks native to this beautiful island. Miguel was wonderful, taking us to spots around the island that were off the beaten path. He also did his best to stay off the highways and to drive through the narrow and steep hills of Madeira. Overall, he was very knowledgable and friendly. I just wished we had more time to spend with him.

It was an amazing day with breath taking views. It was tourist free and we went to places that you would never find without Miguel. He is very knowledgeable about his tours and shows the real Maderia. It was a day we will never forget. The valley of nuns it awesome. Four of us booked a private tour with Miguel on recommendation from our son who had a tour in 2021. We all absolutely loved the tour. Miguel is passionate about Madeira and is very knowledgeable. He took us to lovely quiet areas that tourists don’t normally see. Beautiful views and interesting information. We had a super traditional meal with the most incredible views. We were taken on off road tracks and had a short walk along a Levada. Hopefully we will return to Madeira again and will certainly book with Miguel to do the North east full day tour.

Just come back from a great half day tour of the Central area of Madeira. Miguel was prompt with his emails about the trips available during our stay, let us know pick up times. Showed us a very different side of Madeira that you'd not see on the usual trips. The ride in the jeep was exciting, especially off-road and we saw some spectacular scenery. Miguel was fantastic, he knew the island and the people of the island. This was like a safari adventure as well as a cultural visit with a special freshly made Poncha drink. The views were breath-taking. Buses cannot access these roads. So glad we booked this one. We saw the different types of grape vines, fruits, bananas and so much more. This has been my highlight of our trip. My family loved it too. You will see the hospitality if you book this adventure.

Miguel picked us up in an old army jeep. He is very knowledgeable. Takes you away from the local tourist traps & routes. Off roading in some areas. Friendly, fun and experienced. Would highly recommend.

This was a fun half day being driven round lots of remote places and stopping off for refreshment. There were five of us sitting in the back of Miguel's open top jeep and standing up to view the scenery when safe to do so. Just returned from best day ever. Miguel picked us up from our hotel in his vintage army jeep for half day tour into the mountains. We were joined by another couple. Could not have enjoyed ourselves more. Miguel’s knowledge of Madeira is unsurpassed. We learnt so much. We went off road for 75% of the trip, fantastic fun driving through the eucalyptus/acacia forests. Very sad when it was over, Could not recommend Miguel and our trip more highly.

We were recommended to Miguel by a friend, and he was absolutely right. We had an amazing half day tour with Miguel in his open top jeep today, he made sure to book us on a day when we had the best conditions. He is so knowledgable about the area and took us off road onto some lovely tracks through the trees, and he goes to a lot of places the other tours don’t go. He gave us information all the way through the tour and recommendations on where to go, especially good restaurants. We cannot recommend him highly enough, I wish I could give 10 stars. Looking forward to our next trip with him to see the sunset.

We spent a fabulous half day exploring inland Madeira, hardly seeing another soul. Miguel has a fantastic knowledge of the island, it’s nature and hidden places. It’s clear he’s spent a lot of time researching and developing his tours. Miguel takes great care to ensure everything is right, even closely watching the weather to adapt the tour to ensure you get the very best experience. Miguel is fun and charismatic. I loved the off roading experience making the tour the highlight of my holiday. I cannot recommend this experience more highly.

This is our first visit to Madeira and we just returned form our half day tour with Miguel - what a guy!!
