Private Tuk Tuk Tour To Old Town + Monte In Funchal

Had an absolute fabulous tour with Ricardo & Beatrice, they were a blast and very knowledgeable. Absolutely loved the tuk tuk. , great way to get around the cobble streets. The toboggan ride is a must, €20 per person or €40 per person if you want to jump the queue, when we went the queue was approximately 2hours long so decided to pay the extra price then we could have more time for the tour. Ricardo and Beatrice recommended places to eat and drink, we ate at Santa Maria restaurant upon their recommendation and was very good. Thank you both for a great day

I was in Funchal with my young daughter, we had a tew tuk tuk yours with Ricky and had a fabulous time. It was so much fun and he really brought the facts to life. We loved travelling by tuk tuk and every second felt like a real adventure. Would definitely recommend!

Tried to book a ship excursion but no spaces available so found this trip last minute! Tom was waiting with Rosie (the Tuk Tuk) right outside the ship! He was really friendly and looked after us very well. It was really good fun and we were glad to have experienced the toboggan ride! Great value for money. Go as early as you can because the wait time can become hours long very quickly!!!!!!

Very enjoyable tut tuk ride with Tom, who was very friendly and an excellent guide. He was very informative with everywhere we went and told us many interesting facts about the old town and round and about. Would recommend. Toboggan ride was great experience too, which he dropped us off to do and met up again at the bottom of hill.

Such a fun way to see the city! I had 7 Tuk Tuks for my group and they all showed up right on time! The drivers were informative and we never felt rush at our stops. Again, love this tour. Very professional and friendly people.

Flavio was a fantastic guide! He was flexible in his route and schedule to accommodate us and was knowledgeable and entertaining in describing Madeira. We highly recommend him and his company!

We got picked up at the entrance of the port but could of been picked up at the ship. Ricardo our Tuktuk driver was knowledgeable informative and a great laugh , we had a tour of the sights of the city key interest points and ( best bars ) stopped off a few times to have photo op then took us to the top to get the Toboggan, he even escorted us to the queue end and said to wait there while one of us went and purchased tickets took me back to my Mrs waiting in the queue and said he would see us at the bottom. Once he got us he then drove us around the old town and dropped us off at a location we asked for. Excellent value for money

We had a tuk tuk tour of the old town and monte today. Our driver was Flavio. The tour was absolutely fantastic as was flavio. He was so knowledgeable, courteous, welcoming. We couldn't have wished for anything more. He took us up to the basket tobbogan, walked with us to get our tickets and explained that he would wait for us at the bottom. Despite having to wait about an hour for us. He then gave us a tour of the old town and walked us in to various sites that he thought we would like. He dropped us right back to our cruise ship as it was raining and we were very grateful for this. We also met who I think was the boss on a couple of occasions and he was equally lovely. In the tobbogan queue he spoke to me and reffered to me by name which I thought was lovely as I had only spoken to him for about 10 seconds whilst waiting for our tour. Highly recommend this tour if you're In Funchal and we will definitely use them again. Thank you!

Our guide Tom was excellent! Rosie, our Tuk Tuk took us to Monte, the top of the island, and Tom explained the history and the sites as we climbed. After taking the basket slide , traditional, he met us to finish our private trip. Best tour we’ve ever taken

We had a really fun time with Ricky. The tuck tuck was a great way to get around. Headed straight to the toboggan to miss the cruise traffic, then a little tour of the old town.

Our friendly guide picked us up from the hotel and was happy to tailor our trip to us. Ricardo was an excellent guide, telling us lots about madeiras history and took us to the toboggan waiting for us to finish before taking us to the old town where we could choose t be dropped off there or taken back to the hotel - Excellent from start to finish! Tom was a great guide (and good driver). He called us to arrange meeting up. We met a short walk from the cruise terminal. We thoroughly enjoyed our tuk tuk drive up to Monte then down in the toboggan. We stopped for a local drink a poncha, which Tom explained was rum, honey and lemon, delicious. Tom asked where we wanted to end our tour in the city centre (we opted for this) or back at our cruise ship. We learnt a lot of interesting facts about Madeira on our short trip. We definitely would recommend this tour.

While this was fun and we had a great guide, this can be skipped. The main purpose we did this was for the infamous toboggans. Those can we done without this. He just drove us around to the top, pointed out some sights (hard to hear him in the Tuk Tuk) and dropped us off. The price of the Tuk Tuk ticket did not include the toboggan, so we paid separately. My suggestion… do the toboggans on your own!

Arranged pick up for this tour at the cruise terminal and our guide arrived on time. He was very friendly and extremely informative about the places we visited. He allowed ample time for us to visit gardens and churches, without having to rush, and took us to high vantage points so we could get breath taking views. We also drove down streets that were so narrow that unless you knew they were there or you were walking, would not be easily found. All in all a good experience. Would highly recommend.

Great morning with the lovely Miguel. Collected and returned to hotel with option of anywhere drop off. Very informative with a clear passion for his island. Went up as far as Monte Palace gardens where we were left to wander on our own until the agreed pick up time. Once back down we were taken around the old town, again very informative. Any questions were answered and where possible we were taken to places we’d asked about. All in all, very good value, a lovely way to see a bit of Funchal with the personal touch. Thank you Miguel.

Both were full of energy, knowledge, and humour — the perfect mix for a fantastic experience. Fun way to see Funchal. The tuk-tuk gives a more intimate and authentic view of the old town area of Funchal and Ricardo was an excellent guide - entertaining and informative without being boring or dry. The toboggan baskets were a blast - a definite must do for a trip to Madeira.

Booked a hotel pick up and drop off for 9.30. Trip Advisor site took the pick up details but then clearly defaulted to the category “ hotel not in pick list”. Fortunately Ricardo contacted us and made haste from the default location to our hotel to pick us up. Off we set through Funchal with great commentary about the place and buildings. Up we climbed enjoying the view and chat to Monte and the start of the sled ride. THERE WAS NO QUEUE we just bought our tickets and were loaded into a sled and off we shot. The ride was a good and better than any expectation we had and the early stsrt paid off. We had walked passed the queue on Tuesday and it was over an hour long. Ricardo met us at the bottom and we returned to the tour and the old town with the painted doors and quaint cobbled streets. The return to the hotel brought us back into the present day, a cuppa and couple of hours in the sun before our next adveture. I say the Tuktuking tours are the best way to see thingsin the busy city.

I booked a package that included a tuk-tuk ride with a guide up to Monte, followed by the famous Madeira toboggan ride – and it was an unforgettable experience! Our guide, Ricky, was amazing: very friendly, easygoing, and incredibly knowledgeable. On the way to Monte, he shared the history and curiosities of Funchal, showing us the city’s highlights with great enthusiasm. Once in Monte, we purchased the tickets for the toboggan ride, which was so much fun and definitely a must-try experience, even if quite touristy. After the ride, Ricky was already there waiting for us and then took us to Funchal’s old town, where he continued telling us more about the history and culture of the city, before finally dropping us off at our car. The whole experience was well organized, and Ricky really made it special with his kindness and professionalism (@rickymadeira). Highly recommended to anyone wanting to enjoy something authentic while also discovering Funchal!

We were picked up directly from our hotel by a Tuk Tuk driven by Ricky. He contacted us the day before to confirm the arrangements and recommend the best time to start the Monte Toboggan tour. His advice to go early was perfect, as the queue gets long very quickly. Ricky was an excellent guide — friendly, chatty, and full of local knowledge. He also showed us some wonderful photo spots along the way. Overall, he made the whole experience smooth, enjoyable, and memorable. Highly recommended!

We had a fantastic experience with Ricky and the TukTuk tour! The TukTuk itself was excellent—clean, comfortable, and a fun way to explore the area. Ricky was incredibly thoughtful from the start. He let us know in advance that the toboggan rides were closed on Sundays, which was the day we had originally booked. He kindly and graciously rescheduled us for Monday morning instead. During the tour, Ricky pointed out interesting sights and shared insightful information about the island. He even walked with us all the way to the entrance of the toboggan line to make sure we were all set. One of the highlights was how thoughtful he was to take photos and record a video of my husband and me as we descended on the toboggan—such a wonderful memory to have! Afterward, Ricky continued the tour through the Old Town, pointing out landmarks and sharing more history along the way. He was professional, sincere, and clearly passionate about what he does. Highly recommend this tour and especially Ricky if you want a memorable and personalized experience!

The company contacted us the day before the trip to ask if we could start at 9 instead of 10am. This turned out to be a great move as we had no wait at all for the basket trip from Monte into Funchal. This trip is a must - do for any visitor to Madeira but the queues can get very long so arriving early makes sense. The tuk tuk trip to the top was very enjoyable, taking in the ever-expanding view of Funchal, the surrounding mountains and the Atlantic Ocean all accompanied by interesting commentary by our guide Ricky. He was great fun, had excellent English and knew the answer to every question we asked, and many that we didn’t!.

We had a wonderful time on the tuk tuk tour. Our guide was knowledgable and friendly. He waited for us while we had a toboggan ride and he took a little video of us as we came down. It was a wonderful morning out.
