WE LOVE MIGUEL!!! Miguel picked us up from our hotel and we started the tour from right there. He was SO knowledgable about the island and one of the most friendly people we met on our whole trip. Our first stop was at a banana tree orchard where Miguel explained the life cycle of banana trees. We continued our way around the island, stopping for a quick Levada walk where we ran into some Longhorn cows (really cool for a Texan girl!). We stopped for a local coffee before continuing on to see waterfalls and the rest of the island. We had 1.5 hour lunch stop where we had the opportunity to swim in some of the natural pools fed by the Atlantic Ocean. Miguel really does take you everywhere! We finished the day off stopping a local Poncha shop and sipped different flavored Ponchas. He dropped us off in the City Center as requested so we could finish the day out walking along the coast line.

It was the best experience during our holiday in Madeira. We booked two tours with Miguel. He tailored each day to suit our interests and the weather and showed us the beauty of the island, avoiding the crowds at the main tourist spots. It felt like seeing a secret Madeira. Miguel is friendly, knowledgeable and an excellent driver/guide. I cannot recommend his tours enough.
We had a fantastic private North West tour with Miguel. He was fun, very informative and took pride in using routes that other tours do not use. We saw many fantastic views and visited a locals cafe and Poncha bar. We will definitely look to book Miguel on our next visit. Thanks Miguel for an awesome day! Dianna & Terry.
Had a fantastic private tour with Miguel. He was fun and very informative who took pride in using routes that other tours do not take. We saw some amazing views and visited a locals cafe and Poncha Bar. We will definitely be booking with Miguel again. Thank you for a great day Miguel! Dianna & Terry.
We had such a fantastic day with Miguel! There were four of us, including two young children who would normally choose a pool day over any kind of sightseeing , so we weren’t sure how they would feel about spending the day on a tour. Safe to say, even they said at the end that it had been an amazing trip! Going around Madeira in the jeep was honestly the perfect way to see the island. Driving through the tiny, steep roads and places we would never have thought to visit ourselves made it feel like a proper adventure. Miguel was brilliant! he is really friendly, relaxed and full of knowledge. He told us so much about Madeira, its history and the different places we visited, and we came away having learnt so many things we didn’t know before. Another huge bonus of having a private tour was not having to worry about anything ourselves. Miguel took all the stress away, knew exactly where to go and, importantly, managed to get us to places while avoiding the crowds. That made the experience so much more enjoyable. We were initially worried that the tour might be too long with the kids, but it was broken up so well that the time just flew by. We honestly couldn’t believe how quickly the day went! We absolutely fell in love with Madeira and are already saying we need to come back. We would 100% book another tour with Miguel to explore more of the island, which probably says everything! Cannot recommend Miguel enough. If you’re thinking about booking a private jeep tour, do it! You won’t regret it. 🚙🌿⛰️
Our tour was really great, we had a very recommendable experience with Miguel. His Jeep is just perfect to explore Madeira also off the beaten paths. Miguel himself is very fun but also very knowledgeable as a guide. He truly loves what he does and the tour was all we were looking for to experience different parts of Madeira. Thank you Miguel!
Just back from a weeks holiday in madeira. Whilst we were there we went on two private tours half day central and the full day north tour. Miguel was a very friendly guy and made the tours interesting and explained alot about the island avoiding the motorways and going off road so we would see things that we would not normally on a coach trip. The half day central tour was good and we learnt about the levadas and visited a local bar for a coffee and drink of poncha. We even watched how this was made. We also visited camera de lobos a beautiful fishing village that Winston Churchill used to visit with all the pretty streets decorated with recycled materials. And also went to the skywalk. The full day day north tour was stunning and we stopped off at many beautiful viewpoints and a church. We also stopped at an authentic house in santana and had lunch at a beautiful hotel. Would definitely recommend Miguel's tours and would book again when returning to the island. Thanks
Great trip, lots of stops and interesting places. Highly recommend.
Everything about our day with Miguel was excellent. From my first contact with him, and his patience with all of my questions and “asks” leading up to our private tour, I could not fault him. The actual day had been very well planned by him including a stunning à la carte lunch in a lovely restaurant with an amazing view…. Perfect for my husbands birthday! His attention to detail, and excellent English meant that we were able to ask a lot of questions and understand more than we had done on other tours. He chose some roads with beautiful views and we were able to get out and take lots of pictures. He also took a lot of pictures and composed a lovely video! The day went way beyond our expectations and we would not hesitate to recommend him and we will certainly use him again. Superb!
We actually enjoyed our tour with Miguel so much we booked 3 days ! Each day was outstanding! We were away from touristy places and got to see the island up close and personal
Miguel was an exceptional guide. He had really good knowledge of Madeira and we learned a lot from him.He went out of his way to show us non tourist parts of the island. He was very pleasant to deal with.I would highly recommend him and we are looking forward to doing another tour with him again
My daughter and I have a great adventure with Miguel on his Full-Day Tour to Northwest/Porto Moniz. Missed all the tourists and found our own gems. A tour well worth doing! So happy with the first tour we planned a second one to see the other part of the island. Maderia is a beauty all her own! ❤️
Our tour with Miguel was fun, informative and genuinely enjoyable. As a local, he took us away from the masses of tourists and showed us incredible spots off the regular roads with the same — if not better — views. We learned so much about the history, culture and hidden sides of Madeira that we never would have discovered on our own. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a more authentic experience.
A wonderful experience showing some of the hidden beauty of this island. Miguel was a superb host with a passion for showing off the best of Madiera. Excellent day out. Recommended wholeheartedly.
A great day out , Miguel is full of knowledge and a nice person. Spoke excellent English and took us to some amazing places especially for lunch. Thank you
We had the absolute pleasure of exploring Madeira with Miguel, and I can honestly say I’ve never met such a passionate and knowledgeable guide. From the moment we met him, Miguel’s warmth, kindness, and genuine love for his island shone through in everything he did. What makes Miguel truly stand out is the way he shares Madeira with you, not just as a guide, but as someone who wants you to feel the heartbeat of the island. He took his time, never rushed us, and made every moment feel special. His deep knowledge of Madeira’s history, culture, and hidden treasures made the experience so much richer than any typical tour. Miguel has a rare gift: he doesn’t just show you the island, he helps you connect with it. Thanks to him, our trip was unforgettable and so much more meaningful than we ever expected. If you are visiting Madeira, don’t think twice, book with Miguel Is Here Tours. It will be the highlight of your trip, and you’ll leave with memories (and a friendship) that last a lifetime.
Best tour guide on the island - we had an amazing day! Miguel is the best! Friendly, knowledgeable and just a great person to spend the day with.
Miguel made our trip unforgettably special! His tours are unique, different and so authentic! Thank you for making our trip one to always remember!
I wish I could give Miguel more than a 5!! I am jusy finishing a birthday trip to Medeira with my family. I spent a very long time researching jeep tours as there are so many different ones to choose. I wanted something that was not so touristy. Everywhere I looked, Miguel is Here, kept coming up. We loved our jeep tour of the Northwest. Miguel took us to places off the beaten track, showing us his beautiful home. He is a wealth of information and such a wonderful guide. I would rebook a trip with him again and you should as well.
It was a very pleasant experience! We loved everything about today! We visited a lot of different things, local and not touristy. He recommended many things and we really want to come back!
Miguel is a fabulous guide—professional, knowledgeable, fun, and passionate about what he does. He went above and beyond to give us a one-of-a-kind introduction to the beautiful island of Madeira filled with stunning views and unforgettable experiences. Our tour was the perfect way to end our trip, and we can’t wait to come back and explore more with Miguel.
My wife and I booked 2 weeks in Maderia. For our holidays I plan everything and my wife just goes along with it all as she doesn’t want to know anything about the place before we arrive. Maderia is an island to explore and for a relatively small island there is 1000’s of kilometres of trails and things to explore on foot or by car or other means. The roads can be very windy and steep, so if you feel it’s a bit much for you, then a tour is essential to get or see the island. One of the things I wanted us to do was a jeep tour. The problem with this is there are so many tours on offer who do you choose? I spent hours on YouTube trying to find a tour that was a bit different, and also the other usual places Facebook Get your guide etc. but there was too many to choose from. I’m also a believer of the biggest and the loudest is not necessarily the best. However by chance I got to see Miguel on YouTube through another company (That Miguel actually helped to set up) I sent him a message and quickly we set up WhatsApp which is great as you can quickly ask questions and get to know each other. Much better than just emails. Miguel breaks his tours down into different areas and each of them very different. The tours can be fully private just yourselves or shared with a small group We originally fancied the central tour and asked about semi private availability. However we were happy to go anywhere on the island as it was all new to us. He has 6 full day tours and 2 half days. After some discussions Miguel had another couple and between us we arranged a date for the full day Norrthwest tour in his Portuguese WW2 open top Jeep. He has 2 jeeps the second being a Nissan Patrol 3.0 luxury. Plenty of space in both of them and for shared tours he takes 4 people maximum. Maderia has tunnels everywhere to get you round the island quickly. However as Miguel said he limits these and goes places where most tourists don’t drive (or hardly anyone as we soon found out) After being picked up we were soon on backroads passing through little villages. We stopped in a small local cafe for coffee just before our main part of the trip. We covered loads of areas (I won’t spoil the surprises ) my map shows the route and trust me you see so much variation in one day it’s amazing! We have done lots of trips in many places, but we agreed this was our best one yet. We drove, walked, swam , drank local Poncha. Waterfalls, forests , Levadas and more, what a day !! Since doing this trip, we have done other planned activities and although good, were nowhere near as exciting and personal as this one. Miguel really has worked hard to make his tours different and special. If you only planned one trip on your holiday here one of Miguel’s tours would cover more things than most people would see and do in a week! We hoped to book another one, however Miguel was booked and busy. So make sure you book in advance and not just last minute. We are already looking at coming back and 100% we will be booking another tour with Miguel. A genuinely friendly guy who really knew his stuff and went above and beyond to show you parts of this island that he clearly loves. Muito obrigardo Miguel 😍
Fantastic private tour, great guide, knowledgeable and super friendly. One of the highlights of our trip! Great way to spend the day exploring the island. We stopped at a great restaurant where he had everything all set up for when we arrived. The entire day was amazing
I booked the trip as a special treat for my daughter who was visiting the islands for the first time. Miguel is a very friendly, interesting guy and fantastic tour guide. We had a great whole day experience including a very nice lunch in Porto Moniz. Miguel takes you off the main tourist routes but you see everything that is special about this side of the island. We had the opportunity to swim at the Porto Moniz sea pools after lunch which is a real bonus. A poncha on the way home at the iconic Taverna Poncha was the icing on the cake. I highly recommend booking a tour with Miguel. You won’t be disappointed.
We had a fantastic full day north west tour with Miguel at the end of April. We saw so much of this beautiful island in one day! Great experience which I would happily recommend
We took 3 private memorable day tours with Miguel, in a very comfortable 4x4 which he navigates brilliantly on narrow roads and rough terrain. He was a wonderful guide. He took us off the well worn tourist path into the heart of Madeira where tourists on their own don't usually get to go. He specializes in authentic Madeira. We visited farms, family run restaurants and bars, quaint neighborhoods, and walked a lovey levada . What was special about touring with Miguel was his passion and willingness to share his love of the island with us. We highly recommend him. We wish we could find other guides like him in our future travels but there is only one Miguel!
Tours with Miguel are something wonderful, and something different. Away from the main roads you discover the real life of Madeira far from the hotels and restaurants of Funchal, high in the mountains, hidden in the valleys, or quietly on the rugged coast. As knowledgable as he is friendly and flexible, Miguel is the best guide to this island. We have been giving him our business for many years, and having used other tours in the past there is no question of who we would choose.
We cannot say enough good things about Miguel and his tours. We did both the east side and west side. Miguel took us places where none of the others go. Not the tourist traps. He showed us so many places that we never would have seen. He also stopped to let us walk the levada for a while. He is very knowledgeable of the island. His tours were definitely the highlight of our trip. We highly recommend using Miguel. Very friendly, safe driver and knows the island well.
We loved our jeep tour with Miguel not only thanks to the fantastic views and lunch he booked for us, but also because we learnt a lot about the fruits and plants we’ve seen. It was fascinating to hear from a local how people from Madeira live and run their lives, especially the households that live pretty remotely with no direct access to a road. Miguel is knowledgeable, fun and a pleasure to talk to. I would recommend Miguel’s tours to anyone who wants to have a fun and exciting experience. Thanks Miguel!
Going off- road in the jeep was exhilarating and gave us a unique view of Madeira. Miguel is passionate about Madeira & very informative. We had a fabulous day. This is a unique & personalised tour.
Another fabulous day with Miguel, completely exhilarating and away from the usual tourist venues. You see the real Madeira and meet the friendly locals. Real value for money and such a knowledgeable guide. We will be back for more.
This is our 8th trip with Miguel. His Portuguese jeep gets places that almost all other vehicles cannot. In the midst of the pandemic a non-crowded open top jeep must be one of the safest ways to see the island. We were picked up from our hotel at 9am and then headed west. After the short journey in main roads out of Funchal, we headed pretty much vertically up to one of the high villages above Ponta do Sol for coffee & loo break. Then we headed off road to the eucalyptus forest until we reached about 1400m elevation. Miguel then dropped us off to do a short Levada walk with spectacular views to the south west. We drove north west along the main road on the plateau Paul da Serra with views to Rabaçal & the Levada. Then we headed back down towards the coast through Prazares & down to our lunch stop at Paul do Mar. We had one of the best Prego steak sandwiches with beer after a dip in the 24°C waters of The Atlantic. After lunch it was just a few steps down to the MakTub Rum Bar for passion fruit caipirinhas. As the new road along the coast was opened we were able to go for a shower in the ‘car wash’ waterfall. A great day out yet again with a great host in such uncertain times.
Miguel is a fabulous guide; he shows you the intimate side of Madeira.
A great day with Miguel, who took us on an exceptional tour through the splendid nature of Madeira. He showed us authentic Madeira with great passion and generosity! Thank you, Miguel, for this first day in Madeira!!
Today we wanted to explore the west of Madeira and chose to do it with a local guide. We hired Miguel and have had a great day. We would never have found these places without him. We have also learned a lot about the island. Hiring a knowledgeable, sympathetic and fun guide is worth every penny.
A highlight of our Madeira holiday, Miguel is an extremely personable and competent guide. He responded to all our wishes and showed us beautiful places on the island. Originally we wanted to do the northwest tour, but Miguel took us east and south due to weather conditions. So we were always 30 minutes ahead of the rain and could always enjoy the tour in sunshine. Conclusion: We come back to Madeira and will definitely do a tour with Miguel again.
