our driver, 10 out of 10 , made us laugh , gave us loads of information about our tour , pleasant , happy , made our day ,went above and beyond, our only bit of disappointment was that we didn’t get a sign written vehicle , instead we had a white Nissan that wasn’t up to scratch, the foams in the seats was not comfy , air con , a very uncomfortable ride

Itinerary
this belvedere dates from 1950. At approximately 355 metres above sea level, it offers a panoramic view overlooking Funchal Bay.
Curral das Freiras was the property of a couple that sold this land to the captain of Funchal, João Gonçalves da Câmara. This captain gave the lands to his daughters when they entered the Santa Clara convent (also built by him).
Montado do Paredão an area which was subject to intensive reforestation works.
is Madeira Island's third highest peak. Most days, visitors can stand and look down on the clouds. The air is fresh and clear and the sun is very bright. On a clear day it is possible to see the neighbouring island of Porto Santo, 30 miles to the northeast.
In 1566 the nuns from the Santa Clara convent fled from pirates attacking Funchal and found seclusion here, where they also brought the convent treasure. The parish is very isolated, and locals mainly live of what they grow. The local chestnuts are delicious and are used in everyday cooking.

The ancient vehicle didn’t have any air conditioning, so it was very hot. The guide didn’t keep his hands on the wheel or eyes on the road. He regaled us with his views on local and international politics, and the twin evils of eucalyptus trees and electric cars. He intended to entertain us, but the operator should realise that clients want to feel safe and comfortable more than anything else. Please upgrade your cars.
Pedro was amazing. So glad he was our guide. Very knowledgeable and we had a great adventure with him.
A great tour. With hindsight we could have driven to the Nun’s Valley but we were concerned about getting parked and wouldn’t have had the benefit of Eduardo our driver explaining everything and his on-point music playlist. You also miss so much when driving yourself; the passengers get all the views while you concentrate on the road. This was well worth €40 for a half day tour. There’s wasn’t a great deal to actually do in Curral das Freiras except have a coffee and browse a few souvenir shops but gawking at the amazing scenery was more than enough. We did a couple of other minor stops and finished on Pico do Areerio with some incredible views above a partial undercast of cloud. Pick up was punctual although I had to phone the office the evening before to ask when it would be as it wasn’t mentioned on the booking correspondence. This did eventually come through late in the evening though. Also, don’t listen to the AI chatbot on their website. It said this tour was off-road and it absolutely wasn’t, never was! Still, a fun morning out.
The company are reliable and professional. They give a great experience . Our driver was informative and friendly and made the trip fun. We felt safe and everything we did was explained to us. We felt our driver went above and beyond . We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Disappointing experience. The tour started 45 minutes late with no communication. Couldn’t hear much of the guide’s commentary over the engine. Poor weather meant we saw very little at Pico do Arieiro and Boca dos Namorados. Curral das Freiras had lovely views but not much else. Câmara de Lobos was listed but skipped without explanation. We accept that the weather isn’t the operator’s fault, but it’s something to bear in mind - especially if visiting Madeira in June.

Miguel was a great host and guide and despite the bad weather in the mountains he made sure we had an enjoyable tour. Unfortunately we couldn’t see anything through the thick deep clouds but we did stop lower down for some special views. Miguel was knowledgeable about the trees and environment and the recent history of the people. Well done Green Devil Safaris.
Excellent half day tour. We were a group of 6 family and friends and we all really enjoyed this tour. Punctual pickup from our hotel, our guide Lino was knowledgeable, experienced, enthusiastic and entertaining throughout the whole journey. Some off road driving, carried out confidently and safely and it really enhanced the experience.
Excellent half day excursion enjoyed by our group of 6 family & friends. Good value for money, punctual pickup from our hotel, and our guide, Lino, was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and entertaining . Would certainly recommend.
We loved the whole experience. Nelson, our guide, was really helpful, professional and knowledgeable. There were only 3 of us on our tour and we had plenty of time at each stop. Highly recommended.
5 out of 5. Diego was a brilliant tour leader stopping to show us all the plants, fruit the country has to offer. We had enough time to stop and roam around before going on to our next stop. Worth the morning or afternoon to see the beautiful sights of Madeira. Thank you.
Had a great time visiting Nun’s Valley, Pico Dos Barcelos, Curral Das Freiras and Pico Areeiro. Lino was very knowledgeable, gave us all the history and ensured we got the best viewpoints. Would definitely do another jeep safari…..best way to travel!
Juan was a great guide but there was no pastry tasting or wicker factory as stated which was a shame.
After 30 years of coming to Madeira and enjoying many lovely experiences, a safari guided by Nuno was the crowing glory. Nuno’s attitude knowledge and experience patients friendliness was beyond exemplary. We had a fantastic half day tour. Thankyou Nuno. We would also like to thank our other 2 fellow travellers Adrian and his wife from the Isle of Man.
Overall it was quite a good tour, unfortunately Juan was running late (he did inform us via email of this), but it seemed the tour was then rushed, missed out wicker basket viewing, journeys seemed erratic and rushing and speeding to next stop each time. We were sat in the back, so had a difficult view of surrounding scenery as roof was in eyeline, felt like we were in the cheap seal, while other 4 passengers paid the same and sat in comfort.
Was booked for 830 and received many messages and reminders . Was greeted with a very rude driver calling us saying we had booked for 8am . We actually ready and met him then at 815 but felt uncomfortable initially. Trip was great though
We were a group of 12 and did 4 tours (2 full day, 2 half day) with Green Devils. Our guides (Jose & Nuno) we’re great, lots of info, lots of fun - forests, mountains, volcanoes, up in the clouds, down by the sea, we did it all. Lots of off road tracks (some a bit scary 😱), but all fantastic. Lunches good, ponchas (rum punches) even better 🤪. Cannot recommend highly enough.
First thing to note, if you have Nelson, you are in for a great experience!! Nelson arrived to pick us up bang on time. We visited a number of sites including valley of the nuns, Pico do Arieiro plus others. Nelson was very knowledgeable about Madeira and was full of facts all the way round. Unfortunately Pico do Arieiro was covered in cloud, but we were prepared for that with rain coats. Highlight would have been the view but the view above the valley of the nuns stole the show in terms of views. But apart from the views, Nelson was great and kept us laughing most of the way round!! If you could get in the back of the vehicle, I would recommend here for a bit of extra room. I would highly recommend this tour.
Great, fun tour of some of the island of Maderia. Nun's Valley is worth seeing and you get taken to the 3rd highest mountain peak There is some fun off road, where you can stand up in the back of the jeep. Nelson was an informative and friendly guide.
Excellent tour to Nun's Valley and one of the high peaks. Plenty of time for stops. Spencer was a great driver and guide, relaxed and friendly. He made sure we had time to take what photos we needed. Highly recommended.
Had a lovely day, visiting nuns valley, several other viewpoints, pico de ariero, liqueur tasting. Hugo was very informative and fun to be with. Thank you Hugo, from mike and marie
And another great tour with Green Devil Safari. We were only 3 people + our guide Spencer. So it was a perfect tour. A lot to see and a lot of fun! Thank you!
The jeep was old and extremely uncomfortable. Eight adults were squeezed into a small jeep. I had a middle seat. If I wasn't so far away from my hotel, I would have left the tour and called a taxi. Our tour guide was very nice and tried to make it a fun tour, however, my husband and I were so disappointed with the condition of the vehicle. After 4 hours, I couldn't wait to get out of the jeep. I will not be taking a Green Devil jeep tour again.
Fantastic experience, Nuno collected us (family of four) from our hotel and packed our afternoon full of interesting facts, quiet roads and took us to places to relax and affordable places to eat and drink. Nothing was too much trouble. Nuno was very easygoing and friendly combined with his great local knowledge it made this a trip to remember!! There were regular stops on route to each destination filled with facts about local farming, fruit and flowers together with outstanding scenery that you could not find from driving yourself self or taking a larger tour bus. Thank you Nuno!
Highly recommend this tour company and advise doing it early in your holiday. Our tour guide was brilliant, we visited breathtaking places, met the locals, learnt about local culture, even had a lesson in the local flora and fauna, nothing was too much trouble. It really made our holiday and was great value for money - we will definitely book again on our next visit.
Had a great afternoon with Nuno as our guide. He was very knowledgeable about the area & stopped along the way to pick herbs & flowers to show us. We had the jeep to ourselves as it was a dull day but it didn’t spoil the experience. The views from the top were fantastic above the clouds. Would highly recommend Green Devil Tours.
Would highly recommend this, fantastic views and great tour guide. Made a good holiday a great holiday.
What a fun afternoon! The interior of Madeira looks like a set from Jurassic Park and there is no better way to explore it than in a 4 x 4 with Nuno! We stopped in a number of most interesting places and were so lucky to climb out of the cloud and mist into a sunny blue sky and the most amazing views. Exceeded all expectations and highly recommended!!
Much appreciation and praise for Pedro, our driver who showed us the most beautiful viewpoints safely and with a lot of responsibility! On top of that, he gave us a lot of information! Thank you Pedro for the unforgettable beautiful moments on this half-day tour
Our guide (Lino) was very friendly and told a lot along the way he showed us the most beautiful places in a naughty way. The car had to be fixed because he did not switch so tof.He nevertheless brought us safely to our hotel. All in all a beautiful trip.
A great drive through a fantastic landscape. Driver Diogo was a knowledgeable and nice guide. The landscape itself cannot be described, it must be experienced
An exciting and beautiful trip, and Diogo was a super guide with a lot of knowledge and an acceptable English. However, he should have a microphone, as it was very difficult to hear him in the back of the car while driving. Exciting and beautiful to get up so high, but when it gets cold, you should be prepared for this or have the option of blankets in the car.
Schlechtes Wetter gleich eingeschränkte Tour Offroad und ein Stopp vielen aus. Keine Alternativen....
Full day tour with Nuno, not miserly in anecdotes, he introduced us to the flora of Madeira in a very fun way, speaking several languages including French, English and Spanish. We really saw a lot of things, difficult to explain everything here but it is worth the visit! Thank you, Nuno!
we chose the tour because we were missing exactly these tour points in Madeira, after we had already been on this great island two years ago. Our guide Nelson was great, always in good spirits. We learned a lot more about Madeira in addition to the tour. Nelson is happy to provide information. A great experience that we gladly recommend.
Quiet very beautiful place. Nothing too scared of heights! Small shops, restaurants and bars at the square. Try a Puncha to ease the fear of heights!
