This was my second time visiting the island and I’ve done many tours, including a variety of Jeep tours and I can hands down say the tour of the east with Nuno is the best one I’ve done yet! We really felt like we were taken out of the busy tourist areas and shown the best views of the island. He is laid back, informative, passionate for his work and proud of his island. Truly a must do and if you can request Nuno you should!
We went to explore the other side of the island. Julia picked us up from our hotel and we were off. Only 4 to our jeep us and another couple. Julia explained everything she was so easy to talk to and was so informative. I’m not the best when I’m not driving but I felt completely safe with her. We went to places that on our own we would never have found. The highlight of my day had to be the off road section. Stood in the back of the jeep driving through the forest with the wind blowing through my hair, I haven’t felt so relaxed and free in a long time. Then off for lunch which for a couple was 36 euro but could have fed a family of 4 to be fair. Then to see the traditional houses which we could go inside of one where we had a local home made drink waiting for us. I didn’t want the day to end it was fantastic. Highly recommended and when we come out to Madeira again we will definitely be exploring with this company again. Thanks Julia a fantastic day was had, you were amazing.
Fantastic day out. We really enjoyed it. Older or taller people probably would prefer the interior seats. The back is bumpy! 😆
We had a fabulous day. It started from the moment our driver Miguel picked us up very promptly from our hotel in Funchal. Our whole family immediately warmed to Miguel, adopting him as our designated driver and trusted tour guide. We valued his local knowledge and good humour and he made our day extra special. We saw fantastic sights (iconic Santana houses, scenic views of Funchal as well as some of the best scenery the north and east of the island has to offer (see photos). We even stopped by Ronaldo’s house, but he wasn’t home. Food was not included in the price but we were taken to a really good restaurant where we were looked after very well at reasonable price with special consideration taken for our younger children. We highly recommend this trip if you want that little bit of extra attention to detail and care, as well as the joy of a bit of off-roading in the forest (my kids will never forget). Enjoy the poncho and the rum tasting! Highly recommend Miguel as a guide and he knows his poncho!
This was an excellent trip, some off-road tracks as well which was fun, our driver was really good and tried not to use main roads so lots of small, steep windy roads. We had local experiences of Poncho, 2 stops for this, a small rum factory with tasters and a lunch stop. We paid for our own drinks and lunch. The driver we had was Gerhard, he was very knowledgeable about the island and vegetation and stopped and showed us many things, and stopped at view points, he was very relaxed about what time we got back and just wanted to show us a good time. I think he was disappointed that the off-road tracks were quite dry as we were very clean at the end, even though he found as many puddles as he could! Would definitely do this again with Green Devil!
We had a great day out with Diego our driver. We went to some fabululous places and he was so knowledgeable. There were plenty of stops for photos and we could take our time. He made our day fun and enjoyable. We stopped at the rum distillery and there was plenty of time to sample the rum plus a knowledgeable talk on the process to make it. We would definitely recommend doing this trip withn Green Devils and Diego
We wanted to see some of Madeira that we couldn't get to on public buses. We were picked up by Hugo on time. There were 6 of us plus Hugo (Us from UK, 2 from Ireland, 1 from Switzerland and 1 from Portugal). We all got on really well and Hugo spoke English throughout. He was a font of knowledge about Madeira (he was born there), and knew all about the history. It was in a Land Rover (Discovery, I think) so not the most comfortable, but we had loads of stops to see the views, for coffee, lunch etc so it wasn't too bad. We also went to a Rum factory which was interesting (hic!!). All in all a very enjoyable day. It ended up being about 10 hours so you certainly get your monies worth.
I can honestly say this was such an amazing tour! The island was beautiful, amazing food, the locals were lovely and I can’t forget to give a special mention to Duarte our tour guide who was faultless! He knew so much about the island, vegetation, locals and even told us about his personal life experiences on the island he was truly exceptional. The jeep was so fun the bumpy rides up to the mountain top was unforgettable and will be a memory I take with me forever. Thank you so much Green Devil Safari for an amazing experience I hope to return to the island and book with you again!
We enjoyed a wonderful day trip with Lino through Madeira’s beautiful North East! From start to finish, the trip was fantastic, we covered so much and experienced so many beautiful sights! The route was much less over crowded that the NorthWest which made the day even better! Lino was extremely knowledgeable and huge passion for the beautiful island of Madeira! Can’t wait to come back already :)
Very interesting tour with an expert and sympathetic guide, who was willing to visit extras we asked for. We learned a lot about Madeira.
The BEST way to explore the Island. Fabulous fun day out. Our guide Hugo was friendly and very informative.
Just come back from our day out with Green Devil to the NorthEast Santana Traditional Houses 4x4 tour. Our driver Nuno and his co-pilot Juan were excellent company and very knowledgeable. Their English was impeccable. They took us to a wonderful restaurant for lunch that was very reasonably priced. We visited a traditional house and also a rum distillery. We thoroughly recommend this tour. Five stars plus!
Great... as all tours with Green Devil Safari. It was very nice to see different spots of the amazing island Madeira! Small groups, perfect guides!
We spent a fantastic day exploring the North East part of Madeira. Our guide/driver Nelson has a fantastic knowledge of Madeira, its flora and fauna and is an accomplished off-road (and on road!) driver. The adverse weather meant some of the planned tracks were too dangerous to travel but we still saw some excellent sites. Timings for pickup and other parts of the itinerary were spot on. Thanks to Nelson we learned a whole lot more about Madeira--thank you!
Today yet another great trip around half the island with so many places to see plants fruits and lovely lunch . The guide tells you were places are what is grown in the area or made full of information very friendly and great company . Would be going again all ready booked for Tuesday .
Best of both worlds on this tour, get to see great sights and the maderian thatched cottages plus you get to go off roading in open roofed four by fours, this was great fun .we stopped for lunch in a very nice local restaurant with reasonably priced dishes.we took in a rum factory and got to taste the local tipple.we were in a two vehicle group and both drivers were good fun and also very knowledgeable,an assert to the company.if we ever came back to the island I would give this company another go,
Great mix of off roading and tour of SE of island, including stop at Rum Factory. Sadly cloudy at peak, but there’s a reason why it’s so green here. Good introduction to the interior. Our guide (Nou-Nou?)was excellent .
My partner and I did 2 tours with Green Devils: North West and East: Santana & Madeira Peaks, both with Nunu. If I could, I would rate him and the tours 10 out of 5 as both days were simply special. On both occasions we had a perfect mix of main attractions and scenic, off-road hidden treasures not covered by the mainstream tour operators. Nunu drives a "vintage", but clean & comfy Mitsubishi 4x4 that does its job of climbing up narrow, windy paths very well. Off-road trails are, clue's in the name, OFF ROAD so some bumpiness it to be expected, but it was nothing extreme and Nunu is an expert driver - we felt comfortable at all times. We also tested Nunu's knowledge to the limits and can confirm that he can answer every question, including history and geopolitics. He is also a lovely person to chat to so we couldn't have had a better guide. To sum up, if you are after bog standard, motorway-driven trip between the main tourist traps, book elsewhere. However, if you don't mind some off-road experiences to get to some truly magical spots and authentic, unspoiled parts of the island, Green Devils are a perfect choice.
Very good everything from the jeep tour everything! The best without a doubt was the guide who made the trip completely incredible, Mr. Lino! Lino is the best!
Our driver Lino was top-notch. He was able to answer all our questions even in French, very friendly, very interesting. Top-notch day 👌 I highly recommend this excursion, we saw magnificent landscapes.
Beautiful landscapes discovered thanks to Lino with very good explanations throughout the day , bravo Lino we enjoyed this tour of the island , a big thank you Lino 👏👏 very good day from Carole Lhomme, Marie - Anne ,Christine Valérie francis and Alain
Absolutely recommended we did the North West and East Tour both ride indescribably nice points, our driver Luis was super friendly gave us as much time as we wanted and also stopped at many small hiding places and viewpoints that lay on our route. Had we had more time on the island we would have gone through the other two full day tours as well Ps the tour goes on all day with many stops, about Wc breaks nobody has to worry at each stop (apart from viewpoints ) are some to be found
We learned a lot about the northeast of the island. The tour is optimally put together and there are enough breaks. A big highlight is the off-road part through the forest. We can absolutely recommend the tour. In addition, we had an excellent driver who knows several languages (English, French and Spanish).
Great views and visits to picturesque places. Very hearty local meal. Diversity of visits appreciated.
We did the Land Rover day trip. This was one of the best excursions I have had while abroad. Our guide Lino was great, he introduced us to the culture of Madeira as well as its history. A big thank you to Lino! 😀
Great tours all over the island. There is something for every taste. The guides know what you are doing and have a real idea. Greetings go out to our guides Spencer and Nuno
Nice tour with beautiful, beautiful viewpoints. However, a little too much driving and a little too little time to enjoy the beautiful views
Excellent first day of 4x4 with beautiful discoveries in the Madeira forests, lots of fun and laughter. From that first day Lino quickly understood what we were interested little or not to prioritize our expectations. We were so happy with that day that we doubled the odds and went on another day almost tailor-made. These 2 days helped us greatly to discover this island, we crossed improbable forests and visited the must-sees. Madeira, an island to discover, in 4x4 the sites are more numerous and different, with Lino it is a real pleasure. Thank you Lino 👍😁😂
Great experience, discovery of the wild parts of the island and must-see sites. Thank you very much to Lino who took our desires into account, who remained attentive, very professional. Who took us to very good little restaurants. After a day getaway in the south west of the island, we did not hesitate to do 2 days later, the eastern part, which Lino adapted to our expectations. These 2 outings allowed us to discover the island of Madeira from all angles, which we could not have done by tourist car. And two days with Lino was a good laugh. Great guide++++😁
We love everything. The sites we visited, the explanations of Lino and his sympathy, also the place chosen for lunch and wine tasting.
We had a great day with Juan and his SUV. He showed us many things and also explained many things, especially about flora and laurissilva. At noon he took us to a friendly hostel where the Welcoming was very warm and the cuisine delicious.
A huge thank you to Valdemar and Nelson for showing us their homeland like friends. Both speak very good German and spare no effort to pick fruit, get a sniff of leaves and herbs or lead us to fantastic views with spectacular off-road rides. We booked 3 full-time tours from Germany and were picked up from the hotel on time. If we could give 10 stars... the guys deserve it 😎. I'll see you again, thanks for the nice days
A superb day to visit the north-east of the island passing by ancient roads on the side of cliffs, beautiful landscapes then the traditional houses of Santana, the visit of a rum factory with tasting, 4x4 in forest, really a beautiful day at a very pleasant pace and accompanied by an excellent guide who taught us a lot about the history of his island. To do without hesitation...very good provider for excursions...
Had a safari day with Val, our guide, the day was really amazing, he took us in off road places, with breathtaking view, nice spots, with an open roof, we ate in a cheap traditional restaurant very good, he was really nice and friendly, a must-do of this island I spent the day with Val our guide for the day for this 4WD safari, they took us to breathtaking places, and places not accessible except with a 4x4, we ate in a traditional restaurant cheap, and delicious, the guide was super nice! I highly recommend this day in excursion!
I made 2 excursions to the North East and North West Great guides , guaranteed sensations with the jeep , excellent restaurant (surcharge) , superb visits . Very good company that I recommend. If you want a guide fluent in French and history, ask Hugo
Day trip to the east coast of the island. Discovery of endemic plants with Nelson but especially the treasures of the island. A pilot (yes because where he takes us...) but especially an epicurean. Second outing with Luis. Kindness itself. Remember Cabo Girao. It was impossible to set foot on the glass walkway and yet I did it thanks to him. Thanks to them I visited the island off the beaten track and can only thank them.... To recommend to those who want to visit Madeira and keep an unforgettable memory...
