The trip will start at the Old Town in Funchal city, one of the most visited places by tourists, covered with fun stories, and curious facts throughout.
Going towards the mountains, all the way up to Monte city. Prepare to be mesmerized with all the lovely plants, and one of the most visited churches on the island, Monte´s church. August 15th is when the day of Lady of Monte is celebrated and is the most important and most attended feast in Madeira Island. All of these fun facts and so many more will be explained to the clients by an expert driver/ storyteller.
The next stop will reveal one of the biggest attractions of Monte, the Monte Palace Madeira. This is one of the most visited, and adored places in the city of Funchal because of its immense and fascinating garden. A stop of one hour and a half will be made here, to take photos, enjoy the space, and why not enjoy a cup of coffee at the “Greenhouse Coffee Roaster”. This special place is not only known for its great variety of plants but also by its central lake that houses swans and ducks, some peacocks and chickens can also be found in the main areas of the property. So, be quick to take some lovely and creative shots. Inside the park, there is also the possibility to be acquainted with the museum, The Monte Palace Madeira Museum. A space that has three floors, two dedicated to sculptures amongst others, and the third is where you will find a compilation of unique minerals.
The tour will come to an end at the famous Monte Toboggan, one of the most legendary charms on the island. This attraction dates back to the 1850s. In the 19th century, it was a typical means of transportation to go from Monte to Funchal city by the locals. Today is a mere attraction and anyone can enjoy a thrilling ride going down the hill. A tour that promises to reveal the most wonderful sites on the island of Madeira.
Our driver Gil was awesome: so helpful, friendly, and full of information. Picked us up early from port to ensure we got on the famous toboggans ( we only waited a few minutes)!!!! We were lucky and grateful for his expertise. Highly recommend this tour and advise to take earliest time, like we did.

Brilliant experience, Laura was very friendly, shared lots of local information, took us first to the toboggan to avoid later queues and then we chose to go to tropical garden where she waited for us.
Wacef was an excellent guide and driver. He was very accommodating, engaging with a great sense of humour. We enjoyed our excursion immensely and it enabled us to get around the attractions much more efficiently. Going in the morning meant we managed to minimise queuing. We felt we did a lot in just three hours. Would highly recommend.
Great way to see Funchal and get to the gardens Our guide Luis was great - we didnt do the basket down as long queue so we had time to stop at another view point to see Funchal - Luis was great full of info about Madeira and Funchal. Would highly recommend booking the trip - easy comms and good value. The gardens are beautiful - lots of steps - trainers not flip flops though!
This was an amazing experience! We had a very knowledgeable guide and driver. He went above and beyond to show us his city! He explained ao many things to us and went off the original tour. The toboggan ride was so fun! Luis then took us to the garden which what we really just want to do is see more of this beautiful place! No problem for Luis, he took us to a lot if his favorite places! It was an amazing day! I really hope to come back to Funchal one day!! Thank you Luis, for showing us your beautiful city through your eyes! It truly has been the highlight if our trip!
Laura our guide was wonderful. She suggested the best itinerary to avoid crowds and we had the most amazing time-toboggan ride before it became too busy then suggested an alternative garden due to rain where we were originally going and finally a great tour of the old town. All i in perfect English. Laura was a really great guide and we will try to book her again when we come back to Madeira. Highly recommend.

Our guide Luis was very informational and well spoken. Unfortunately the toboggans were closed but we circled around the island to explore other parts of Funchal. I highly recommend this tour.

It was quite an interesting off-beat way to tour the city. Our driver Guy was very personable and explained all the sights as we drove along. However, the Basket line-up was over 1 1/2 hours long so we decided to replace it with a tour of the Old Town. However on the way back our Tuk Tuk got a flat tire. Since there was no spare or jack on board, we had to wait over an hour for someone to bring the equipment to us and repair our tire. By then we had to go back to our hotel as we had other commitments. As a result the trip was rather disappointing, but I have to say that Guy was as accommodating as much as possible under the circumstances. However I think that replacement equipment should have been stored on the vehicle so that this hour long wait wouldn't have occurred. So I can't recommend our particular tour although I think that the idea has some promise. However, I think it might be a better idea to have Basket tickets beforehand to avoid long wait lines.
The trip was excellent due to Andre our guide/driver who was not only great fun but also very knowledgeable, courteous & polite. His English was also excellent. We can thoroughly recommend him and Tukway Madeira.
We got picked up right on time by Andre at our hotel at 8:30. We had a fun curvy ride through narrow streets. We stopped at a perfect overlook for some pictures. And then, on his recommendation, we went to the Monte toboggans next and literally walked up and got on the first toboggan, with no wait at all around 9 AM. Andre then met us at the bottom of the toboggan ride. When we passed by there about two hours later, the line appeared to be at least an hour long. Andre was cool about stopping anywhere we asked him to (we had him stop at the church right near the toboggans). He then took us to the Monte palace Gardens. He hung around and waited for us for about 2 hours and then dropped us off wherever we wanted at the end of the tour. Very fun way to get around town.
Nothing special en f you have been around the island, too hot compared to going to the hikes on Madeira. Would recommend hiles to see the nature
My wife and I have had a great time in TukTuk with our driver Luis this morning. A great way to experience Madeira and even better when you have Luis as your guide!! Awesome guy with a lot of knowledge, passion and enthusiasm - 100% flexible and helpful. We had a blast and can really recommend Tukway - and if you’re lucky you will have Luis as your driver. Go for it!!
Spectacular. Our guide André put the FUN in Funchal! Thank you TUKWAY Tuk-tuks. We'll ride no other if we should ever return to Madiera.
We initially hired Tukway for specific activities but when we got to the first activity, the line was so long André proposed a few other suggestions. We left the entire 4 hour trip to André and he really put the FUN in Funchal!!! André is a master at language (4 to be exact) and his knowledge of the area was tailored for our personalities. Right on, André! We'd do the Tukway TUK-TUK all over again if we could.
We used cable car up to gardens . Amazing time spent there. Lots to see well laid out . Loved the area with birds . Car back up hill well worth money to exit.
The Tuk Tuk is a great non-traditional way of seeing all the major sights and points of interest on the island. Andres was our guide and he was very nice, flexible with the schedule and always made sure we were comfortable. If you’re looking for a great time, book it!
The views were amazing from the top and the cable car ride up the top. We took a lot of pictures. It is a lot of walking up and down once you are at the top. Not recommended if you have mobility issues.
Luis was waiting for us just outside the cruise terminal on time and as planned. He is a fun, knowledgeable tour guide (born in Madiera) that made this Tuk Tuk tour extra special. Instead of the gardens, we wanted to explore the old town...not a problem. Very flexible in changing the tour. The tuk tuk allowed us to explore all the little streets (and hills) that a coach tour would not be able to do. We had a fantastic time and would highly recommend this tour.
This was a great experience. My guide was really friendly and knowledgeable. We started the tour fairly early to avoid the toboggan queues, which was worth it because I did not have to wait when we arrived. After, I went to the Monte palace tropical gardens which was beautiful and I felt as though I had just about enough time to walk around to see it all before we had to leave. I would certainly book this again to view the botanical when I return.
The driver spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable with regards to history and fauna and flora. He picked us up on time and had no problem dropping us off where we needed to be .
This was an excellent experience! Luis picked us up in the Tuk Tuk at the cruise dock right outside our ship. He arrived ahead of our agreed time, so we didn’t need to wait for him. A Madiera native who’s been driving Tuk Tuk for 10 years, he was pleasant, patient, very knowledgeable and flexible. Please note that the price includes only transportation by TukTuk for a couple of hours. The toboggan and Garden tickets are extra. This works well for a couple reasons: he’s a great, knowledgeable and flexible driver, the TukTuk is clean and well-maintained, we couldn’t walk the steep hills in the garden so chose to ride the cable car up to the top of the mountain instead. This flexibility is way less hassle than paying for something we didn’t use. The streets are pretty narrow so a Tuk Tuk is perfect for navigating tight spaces. As we had a very flexible and knowledgeable driver, we were able to have a private tour of the old city added in place of the garden tour. He knew right where we needed to go to ride the cable car and told us we’d need to wait in two lines. Same at the Monte Toboggan place. We had a great tour and would highly recommend this experience.
Had a fantastic time on our tour with Luis, owner of this 1st class experience. Nothing was too much trouble for Luis, and the tuk tuk was a great way to see old town, down the narrow streets up close and personal, to clinking the steep hills to Monte. Will definitely be booking Luis again the next time we are there
An amazing trip through Funchal and up to the Monte for a toboggan run. Andrea was a brilliant guide and made the experience a real treat. The Tukway tour was better than the toboggan ride. Strongly recommended and well priced. Recommend book in advance and ask for Andrea!
