Madeira: Western Madeira Guided Trip & Fanal Mystic Forest

Diego was a great guide, providing local insights along the drive. We did the tour to get an overview of the West side of the island; it’s a lot to pack into a day, yet you don’t spend too long at any one place. The Fanal Forest and Porto Moniz were the highlights for us.

We took the west tour of Madeira, excellent experience. Our Guide Joanna was outstanding and very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend her & this tour.

a good day out, comprehensive tour of west island of madeira, shame foggy at viewpoint and we could not return later. Pick up on time, responsive company when had questions before the trip. Information was ok, but the purpose of the tour was a scenic one rather than lots of information. Lots packed into 1 day

The tour was excellent, only problem is, because we were sat at the back of the bus, difficult to hear everything. Beautiful island.

There should have been more time on the fanal .The vans avoid driving with the windows closed and it is cold. The guide also tends to speak too much and often deviates—more concise and precise communication would be better

Fabulous from beginning to end. Our guide William was amazing. He was so caring, careful and good humoured. He was also a first class driver and guide. He spoke with impeccable French and English. The tour was so wonderful. We saw so much in a few hours. From Camera de lopas to Cabo Girao, to Fanal forest to Porto Moniz and journey home via Seixal with the most amazing scenery we felt we had a day to remember.

Bring a bathing suit for Porto Moniz, and bring warmer clothes and/or rain gear for the Funal. Very pleasant guide and experience.

We had a pretty nice day, but our van had no AC as promised. So with windows down we could not hear the driver speaking..

Terrific day tour of the West of the island. Small party coach of only 6 persons. Would not want any larger vehicle as roads and access at sites of interest are limited. Beautiful scenery and places of interest. Fantastic guide, Diego, who's English was perfect and humour outstanding. He really made the tour memorable.

Excellent from start to finish. Visited parts of Madeira never been before and otherwise would have been difficult to get to. Stunning scenery. Glass skywalk. Mountains where you are above the clouds. Outdoor pools next to the waves. Excellent tour. Special thanks to our guide William for his brilliant knowledge of Madeira and his ability to speak multiple languages. Most impressive. Well done William

Disappointing trip. Some elements were not the fault of the company or guide (no mist in the misty forest and a police cordon preventing us from going to the black sand beach because of overcrowding), but some was. The minibus was old and in poor condition. I needed a foot rest because of the level of the seat, but there wasn't one in front of my seat, so I had to twist for the whole day to reach one, which was very uncomfortable. Timings of each stop didn't seem to be well thought out. At Porto Moniz, we were told we had time for lunch as well as going to the volcanic pools. We went to the restaurant recommended by the guide. Good meal, fair price, but quite slow service. Then we went to the volcanic pools, which look wonderful, but there was a long and very slow queue and we didn't get in. Very disappointing. It should have been the highlight of the day. I said to the guide that it would be helpful in the future to let people know that there are long queues and he said he would not do that, because sometimes there are long queues, but sometimes there aren't. Again, not helpful. Taxi drivers I spoke to later said there are always queues. As this was followed by not being allowed down to the beach and instead stopping for 2 minutes to take photos of the beach below in the distance, I was not impressed. The East of the island tour was much better, better paced, more interesting guide and a comfortable minibus.

Started off with the driver showing up 45 minutes later and of course since we were late we ran all day. Really short stops and uncomfortable van. Do not recommend

We did a private west coast tour with diogo , which was a highlight of our trip. The scenery was so beautiful and each stop was great. Diogo listened and adapted the itinerary to suit our requests and tried to avoid crowds for us, he recommended great spots for food and ponto. He was also the best photographer creating fantastic pictures my family are lucky to have. Overall the day was fantastic and we have nothing bad to say about it!

Just back at our hotel after a full days tour of the west with Guilherme ( hope I got his name right , he said it was William in English) he was everything a guide should be and more, it was very chilled and relaxed but yet we jammed a lot in to the day. Well worth doing and highly recommended, next time we come we will definitely book another 1 or 2 tours wirh them. Hats off to Guilherme for been the best at what he does

Had the best day with Diago, lovely man with a lot of knowledge of the island. We let him take us where he recommended & had a real taste of ‘Madeira’ lovely views, food & company

The trip was amazing. Views stunning and excellent food recommended by our superb guide, Diego. To be honest, Diego made the trip for us. He was hilarious, kind, polite, made us laugh all the journey and was very knowledgeable. He needs his own comedy show! Great day out. Would definitely recommend.

An all these tours the person doing the tour is around to take pictures , not on this one , we stopped and they played on their phone. Additionally, it was extremely annoying to keep referring us as a “family”. Every single sentence was family this and family that and family family. Please ! You could just say stuff without the word family it grated on is badly. Apart from that all was good hence the average review. I would tour with them again if they changed these two things. Just give the information don’t use any group names

We did the West Island Tour with Diego, we had so much fun all day, he is a great tour guide and looked after us all so well for the day.

This tour covers all the prime sights to see and experience on the west side of Madeira. Would recommend to anyone who would like a day-long overview of the island!

Fantastic full day out, exploring Madeira. Diego was a fabulous host and tour guide, knowledgable, friendly, funny and a great driver! Diego recommended a gorgeous restaurant for lunch and gave us a really informative tour. We went to the south of the island, up to the north via the forest and the glass platform, across to black sand beach and back to Funchal. Thank you to Tobias for recommending this trip to us, it was a great way to explore the beautiful island of Madeira and learn more about it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Had the most brilliant trip February 5. Managed to see so many things but without stress. Amazing views and incredible places. Fantastic and sweet guide and lots of good laughs on the trip. Had the best day in Madeira and can't wait to go back next year for another tour!

Best tour yet on Madeira. Our guide and driver was Diego and he made the tour for us, even understanding French, Scottish and English accents communicating in both languages, however I must point out his Scottish could be better 😎 LOL. Highly recommend this tour guide and company. Regular visitors and we will book this company on next visit.

We did the West Madeira day tour, guided and driven by Diego. The whole experience was brilliant, particularly as Diego was so engaging, friendly and informative. He happily chatted throughout, giving us an insight into all local issues and customs. He recommended places to go at our stop-off points and did everything to ensure our comfort. Booked two tours West coast and East Coast. Being our first visit to Madeira we wanted to see the Island. We had Luca as our driver and guide. He is very friendly fun and very knowledgeable about Madeira and it's history he made both sight seeing trips a personal friendly experience. He took us to sights around the Island we would have missed and learned about bananas 😁 never new there were so many! The views are incredible and we experienced some amazing places. Mystic forest in the mist certainly atmospheric! Star War fans! Thank you Luca for giving us two fabulous days. Madeira we will return. Highly recommend this company for the tours you won't regret.

Diago was a great guide, it was obvious how much he loved his home & he had lots of useful information. Great driver too especially on the really step roads, I felt really safe.

We took three tours with this company, based on the great experience of the first tour to the Western part of the island. The guides (Diego, Tony, and Norbert) were excellent at providing interesting information in a fun manner which added to the enjoyment of the day. The tours covered all of the major areas of interest at a leisurely pace. Very clear guidance was given at all spots on where to go and what to look for while there. Excellent driving skills made the journey on the mountain roads very smooth! The company was very good at communicating the time and location of the designated pick up spot. Excellent experience with this company.

We had a great day - our guide was friendly, fun and full of knowledge. We got to experience the rugged west side of the island and enjoyed a traditional lunch.

A brilliant trip with our guide (I'm really sorry but I forgot to catch his name) who went above and beyond taking us to all the places listed and more! He was super knowledgeable and passionate about the island and it was great learning about it from someone who loves Madeira! We got a real feel for what the island is about and I would highly recommend this tour if you are looking for one. We were going to rent a car but wanted to avoid the hassle in the end. Having gone on this trip, my advice is there's no point in renting a car when tours like this are available. Ps...We read a recent review who gave it a lower rating due to having to pay for entrance tickets to things like the skywalk and pools...this baffles us as if the tour did that, for this price, they wouldn't earn a penny for what is a long days work for the guides!

My booking said clearly the locations we were attending and that it included FREE Admission. When I arrived at the famous view point, I was told that a fee had to be paid for my entire family. Conveniently told by the guide that the fees have now been added compare to when I booked online. Whether it was Viator or the tour company, someone should have advised me. Even Pont Moniz swimming area had a fee. I have in writing that it was free admission and yet I ended up paying for my family to enjoy the key events promised. I should be reimbursed the fee given my situation. Disappointed Norm Pacheco

Our guide Nelson was very informative, friendly. He changed the route slightly due to weather and went the scenic routes so we could enjoy our drinks when it was quieter. All round a great day. Thank you Nelson

Great tours in our week in Madeira. Did both the full day eastern one with Diego and the western one with Nelson. Both very good, friendly and informative. Spoken English very good. Highly recommended

We had a great day exploring the west and north of the island with our guide, Guilherme ( AKA Christiano Ronaldo!) who was very friendly and informative throughout the trip. And a great driver too, negotiating the steep and winding roads and safely avoiding random cows wandering in the middle of the road! We had the opportunity to see some amazing sights as we explored the west side, stopping along the way in some beautiful costal villages. And the Sky Walk was well worth the 2 euros for the fantastic view 580 metres above sea level. Our final stop was in the Fanal Forest which was up in the clouds. Very atmospheric but also freezing cold so don’t forget to take a long sleeved jacket or jumper! For a whole day’s sightseeing trip, we thought it was excellent value and would definitely recommend.

Going from the bright sunshine of Porto Moniz up to the fog of Fanal forest was incredible, fantastic day tour, highly recommend. Loads of time at stops for photos and lunch at Porto Moniz in the beautiful sunshine was amazing. Ronaldo joked his way around the west side of the island but was very friendly and extremely helpful, answering any questions we had

Amazing views and a very informative trip, we had the honour of having Luca be our guide and he was extremely knowledgeable about the island and history, it was so good we done the east side tour 2 days later with Luca again, couldn’t recommend the tour and the guide enough!

We saw some beautiful scenery and our guide Luka was great he told us loads of interesting facts about Madeira's flora and fauna as well as the history and culture. As an extra he also took us to wine tasting. All in all a great day.

Excellent day out lead by Guilherme, starting with a hotel pick up, numerous picturesque stops and a delicious traditional meal with wine. Guilherme gave lots of explanations and commentary with a great sense of humour. The scenery was stunningly beautiful 😍

We toured the West side of the island with the best tour guide we have ever encountered. His enthusiasm and love of the island were very inspiring. He provided us with history of the island and information on how some places got their names. Each villa we visited was beautiful and the view points provided the most beautiful scenery which left us awestruck. The Fanal forest with the ancient trees in all different shapes and sizes oozed mystery and transported me back to the story of the Wizard of Oz. Thank you Luca and well done! We loved every minute of the tour. You made it informative and fun and it went by in a flash although we were out with you all day. We highly recommend this tour and highly recommend Luca as the guide.
