Madeira Off-road Tours

Really good day around the Northern and Western parts of the island with Fabio. He was super-friendly, very knowledgable, and took us on some fabulous off-road tracks, to a nice easy levada walk, and into Porto Maniz for a good lunch. Highly recommended!

We had an amazing jeep tour of West Madeira with Thiago as our guide. He has an incredible knowledge of the island and shared so many interesting facts and stories throughout the day. He always did his best to accommodate everyone's wishes and made sure everyone had a great experience. Thiago never rushed us and gave us plenty of time at every stop to enjoy the beautiful scenery. He was friendly, professional, and a pleasure to listen to. His enthusiasm and passion for Madeira really made the tour special. We highly recommend Thiago to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience in Madeira. Thank you for an amazing day!

Miguel was absolutely amazing. He knows his stuff and a very safe driver. Our adventure started with a pick up from our cruise ship. Whe drove to the West coast of madeira for our tour. We stopped a at a very tradicional coffee with a very nice view shop for a short break before Miguel took us on a off road adventure, all the way up to Fanal where we visited the world heritage forest. From there we made our way to Porto Moniz for a stop at the natural swimming pools. After, we made a luch stop at a beautiful and delicious restaurant before making our way back to the ship in Funchal. I can't recommend this tour enough. The best part, it's off the beaten track. In the restaurant Miguel took us, we where the only tourists. In Madeira that translates to better food and prices. Thank you very much to Miguel, you made our day in Madeira unforgettable.

Miguel was a very informative, warm and friendly guide for our day exploring from Funchal to Sao Vicente to Porto Moniz and back. We stopped many times for views, ask questions, grab a cafe or poncha, and learn history passed down from his Madeiran grandparents and family. I recommend Miguel without hesitation - you'll be in great hands.

AMAZING TOUR!!!!! Celse was an excellent guide, he went above and beyond to show us everything Madeira had to offer, secret roads, exotic fruits and animals. We had the best local poncha and espetada in the mountains. My family and kids loved every moment of it, we learned so much and laughed till we cried. I highly recommend the tour and will definitely do it again next year.

Outstanding day out!! John, our driver, was knowledgeable and very entertaining. We travelled to the west side of the island across the mountains, through beautiful forests and stopped at some breath taking viewpoints. I would definitely recommend this excursion to anyone who wants to truly get to know Madeira, both on and off road!! Big thank you!!

Wow what an amazing day we had with John and Off road tours. John arrived more or less bang on time to pick us up from our hotel and started by giving us an overview of the plan for the day. Then we were off and enjoying the sights of the west of the island. We started at a viewpoint before Cabo girao then whizzed past it to ponto do sol to look back at it and enjoy a cup of coffee. After that it was up the old roads to the central plateau and the laurel woods (a crazy busy tourist hotspot), then we dropped down off road and on the old roads to get to Porto moniz for a great lunch and a swim in the natural pools. The way back skirted Seixal to the popular viewpoint and cafe shop by the bridal veil falls before taking the tunnel through the centre to get back to Funchal. Throughout John shared his passion and love of the island, plenty of stops for photos, lots of little surprises and making the best use of his 4x4. If you want to avoid the most touristy spots then we completely recommend this group. Thank you for a brilliant day.

Great day out with Tiago driving us for. 7+ hours trio into part of Madeira that we certainly would not have dared venture in a hire car . Great rapport with and knowledge given by Tiago as to the flora and fauna of this most delightful of Atlantic islands . AMAZING!!!!! I cannot recommend them enough. John was fantastic, YEEHOO! It was the highlight of our holiday and a highlight of our years. When we come back to Madeira we will definitely be going on another tour with them. John had lots of knowledge and wanted to share lots of the island with us, Thank you for such an amazing day.

John our driver and guide was very knowledgeable clearly loved his role and this shone through. He took us to parts of the island that nobody else goes to. Celso is a great and funny guide. We did Santana off-roads and it was an amazing day with adventure, funny moments, poncha, sunshine, beautiful views and a good lunch.

We booked the Central, North & East tour. The weather was great, our guide was terrific and very knowledgable. Nowhere was too busy (apart from the lunch stop). The route was well chosen and seeing less visited tracks and communities made the visit more memorable. Being able to ask the driver to stop at will to look at a plant was a joy. Thanks for a splendid day.

Jon was our driver and what a fantastic tour guide of the island he was. We had the most amazing day with him. Our five night trip to Madeira was for my wife's 40th Birthday and we are so glad we booked this tour of the west side of the island. We also had our 4yr old daughter with us. She especially enjoyed the rough off road parts. We stopped at so many veiw points. And covered so much of the island. Far more then we expected. We stopped off for lunch and a swim which was amazing. And saw so many views and waterfalls. It was Honestly the most Incredible experience. Made all the better by our wonderful guide jon. Easy to plan and book with prompt emails replies. John, our guide, met us at the cruise port for a fun tour. He was entertaining and enthusiastic and we saw more interesting sites than we have on other tours in Madeira. Highly recommend this tour company!

It was amaaaazinnggg, fun and thrilling. We were excited to see and explore Madeira as much as we could. The tour was worth it and made it worth while. not to forget Joao (John) our guide was amazing, he was great and all about history and facts. He was very fun and very knowledgeable and also very unpredictable and Funny, he really made the entite tour fun. I would definetly recommend them if you ever visit Madiera. They are the best.

We did the west and east tours with the same guide Miguel which was excellent. He did the tour in French especially for us. We learned a lot of things about the island, it was really interesting. We also had good recommendation for lunch time. I recommend this company and especially Miguel. If we come back we will definitely book another tour with him.

We had a tour of Eastern Madeira with Victor and we cannot say enough good things about it! The tour was incredible, informative and honestly made the whole trip worth it. Victor himself is lovely, so considerate and knowledgeable if he asked me to rob a bank I'd do it.... like, he'd make a cracking get away driver. The man climbed over a fence at a ravine to rescue my glasses, I'd nominate him for a Nobel peace prize. Madeira is a place you have to experience in person and if you're going there, this is the tour you need to do.

We were recommended this tour by our friends who recently came out to Madeira a few weeks before us, he told us that we needed to go on this tour and ask for John. Me and my partner went with my mum and dad who wouldn’t ordinarily do this sort of thing on holiday and they loved it and it was the highlight of their trip as well as ours. He is so informative, funny and couldn’t of done enough for us. He was happy to take our photos as well as a group. We did a private Madeira wine and off road tour which took 3.5. AMAZING EXCURSION!!! Manuel our guide was fantastic. He was extremely knowledgeable, fun and took the time to show us all the little important things the East Coast can offer. Standing up in the jeep overlooking the clouds was the highlight of the trip. It was amazing to visit all the local low-key spots that was not packed with tourists. We had the best Poncha on our trip. 100% should do if visiting the beautiful island of Madeira

Miguel is an amazing tourguide. We couldn’t have asked for a better one. He knows a lot about the island and shares the knowledge in a compelling way, while being able to not overload you with information. We also loved the flexibility of the tour and it’s up to the group how much time you want at each spot. Would also definitely recommend including the 14 euro lunch. We were scared that it would be a cheap “local” bad lunch like most tours, but it was actually worth way more than the 14 euro and at a lovely modern location. 10/10 would recommend!

What a packed day! Our guide, John, was clearly passionate about showing people the island - he switched between languages with ease and knew so much. We loved the mountains and the pools at Moniz - a great day out. Top tip - take the middle seats if you are offered them!!

We were a small group of four which was great. Over the day we saw a lot of the island and had a lot of fun cruising through the woods.

Amazing tour with an incredible tour-guide! The guide knew so many beautiful places and even areas that weren’t full with tourists, which is what we preferred. Our car wasn't fully packed which was nice, especially compared to some of the stuffed touring cars that we saw along the way. Very personal and fun conversations that made it feel like we driving around with friends! Would recommend it to anyone visiting Madeira as it truly made our holiday amazing. Thank you again Miguel, we will be back!

My sisters and I did a tour of the north of the island. We had a very enjoyable day, made all the better by having James as our driver/guide. The off Road sections were great fun. James was very good at stopping to point out areas of interest, and also interesting flora. There was plenty of photo opportunities. He was an excellent driver, and I truly can't believe some of the roads he took us up, some were amazingly steep, and although 2 way were actually only wide enough for 1 car. This was the "true" Maderia, and we loved up. Unfortunately the sea pool/volcanic rock pools were cold, so although we went there we didn't go in. Only thing I can say against the tour was it said the entry to the pools were included, it wasn't, but still, entry was only €3 each, so not too much. We really enjoyed this tour. Another's great selling point to this company is the size of the vehicle. We were in a normal Land rover, which would take a max of 4 passengers. Some of the other tours we saw, while out, had bigger landrovers/jeeps with many more people crammed in them, which didn't look at all comfortable.

We really enjoyed a full day 4x4 east tour with Miguel as our guide and driver. Madeira has photo opportunities at every turn, river valley, mountain, coastal town or natural feature. However, rarely does a photograph truly reflect the beauty of this wonderful island. The tour included frequent stops at local spots away from the masses of touring coach parties supporting the smaller local trades, with delightful food, could not fault his suggestion one bit. Never felt rushed at all during the day eventhough some of the areas he took us were unavoidably VERY busy. Miguel was a super guide, always respectful and very knowledgeable and a total treasure. Keep on throwing the chickens! Lol. 100% an enjoyable day and would do it all over again

This experience made my day! If you love nature and want to discover the wonders that this beautiful island offers, you must try it at least once. Breathtaking views and such a great time... My wife and I went on the West tour with Miguel driving. He was a master tour guide, and just a great companion too, with interesting conversation all the way through. His driving always felt very safe, and he showed us such interesting sights and let us spend time enjoying them. We have no hesitation in recommending the tour. It was definitely one of the highlights of our holiday.

Amazing experience we have been to funchal many times,and decided to do something different so glad we did,Miguel our driver and guide was superb throughout our tour,from flora and funa and his knowledge was exellent,we asked for a walk,short but so worth it to a view point 2000 metres above sea level awesome views,could not fault it,the lunch which is extra but so worth it.(hope you enjoyed your lunch miquel as much as us).After a look at the origanal houses,the tour was superb.Two very happy customers.cannot reccomend highly enough.thankyou miquel for a great day. We were picked up at our hotel to do the East island tour. We were in an open top jeep with 4 other people. Our tour guide was great. The off roading was fun. The stops were excellent. Santana houses were beautiful. Viewpoints were spectacular. The traditional lunch was delicious and it gave us a chance to chat with other people on the tour. It was the best day of our holiday and would go on the same tour again in the future because it was such a good day out.

I have to thank Miguel today for a lovely off road tour around madeira Island, our family had a fantastic time and would highly recommend this experience. He not only showed us all of the mountain features but also took us to a local bar to interact with the villagers. All the best to Miguel from The Smith family 6!

We did the Off-Road tour of the east side of Madeira with Miguel as our tour guide…..amazing service and awesome day!! Miguel picked us up at our hotel and we had a full day of touring the interior and east coast of Madeira. He was great….knowledgeable, personable and a great driver on those “hair-raising” off roads. I would highly recommended this tour company and definitely Miguel! Wonderful day😊

Spending the day touring with Miguel was amazing. He showed us east Madeira as I wouldn't have experienced otherwise - drinking poncho in a minuscule village, driving through steep and extremely narrow streets, offroading through jungle-like forests and finishing up in a great sea-food restaurant - can't go wrong on this one!

Miguel was a fantastic guide and a great driver! On the ‘West’ tour we were able to drive along the older more unpredictable roads and see the less touristic spots we would never have been able to see had we hired a car ourselves… all while standing in the back of the open top 4x4! He was also incredibly knowledgable, offering insights on nature, agriculture and general history of the island throughout the tour. Miguel also arranged for us to eat at a restaurant at Porto Moniz that offered a set menu, which was really good quality but far cheaper than anywhere else ate at in Madeira. This was followed by a swim in the natural pools and a speedy drive back, stopping off to see the roadside waterfalls in Seixal and Sao Vicente. Overall it was a great experience that was a highlight of our stay. It’s a must do which we’d love to do again and would highly recommend to anyone else staying in Madeira! Thanks Miguel

Through this tour I was able to immerse myself so much more in the island and experience it at its most authentic. Our driver Miguel was very knowledgeable and a lot of fun to be around. I definitely will never forget this and would recommend it to anyone who wants to explore the island.

Miguel is a great guide with a need to share his wast knowledge about the island. Views were breathtaking, and the off-road itself seems to be one of the most enjoyable way to admire that beauty.
