About Activity
Discover the traditional houses of Santana on a full-day tour from Funchal. Admire the unique charm and beauty of the region's iconic houses, and see the third-highest mountain in Madeira, Pico do Areeiro.
Leave Funchal and first head to Pico do Areeiro at 1818 meters above sea level. On the way down to Santana, make a brief stop at Ribeiro Frio to visit the trout hatchery, surrounded by a beautiful garden with rare trees and endemic plants of the island (entrance not included).
Discover Madeira's Laurisilva Forest in Ribeiro Frio, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999. In Santana, see the typical houses of the region. Take a lunch break here.
On the way back to Funchal, drive along the stunning North Coast and stop in Porto da Cruz, from where you can enjoy the view of the North Coast and the impressive rock formation Penha d'Águia. Return to the hotel via Ponta de São Lourenço with its beautiful, lunar-like landscapes.

Itinerary
Pico do Areeiro, the third-highest point on the island of Madeira, is located at an altitude of 1,818 metres. From this place you can observers the unique grandeurs of Madeira's Mountainous Massif, Ponta de São Lourenço, Curral das Freiras and, on clear days, the island of Porto Santo. Stop for free visit.
Ribeiro Frio is a privileged place to observe Madeira's fauna and flora. You will also find the Ribeiro Frio Aquaculture Centre whose rainbow trout. Stop for free visit.
Santana, located on the north coast of the island of Madeira, presents a set of unique natural, landscape, environmental, human and cultural values of great interest. The 'casinhas de Santana' became icons widely known nationally (and beyond) for the peculiar beauty of their architectural style. Stop for Lunch (included) and free visit.
Madeira's east coast, Porto da Cruz perfect for sunbathing and refreshing dips. Also here you can find " Engenho do Norte" , the historical production of sugar cane brandy, or Madeira Rum. There is possible to taste a number of brandies at 'Casa do Rum', next to Engenhos do Norte, Madeira. Stop for free visit.
Ponta de São Lourenço is on Madeira's east coast. This volcanic peninsula offer you a panoramic views over the north and south sides of the island. On clearer days, it is possible to see Porto Santo Island. The semi-arid climate, exposure to north winds the undergrowth is one of the peculiarities of this place. Stop for free visit.
Machico offers you a elegant bays to take a pleasant stroll along the crystal-clear sea that bathes the entire municipality. In addition, this municipality, marked by unique cultural traditions, has several viewpoints, historical monuments, beaches and green areas. Stop for free visit.

We took a day tour through various places in Madeira. He was a quiet, nice, and safe-driving bus driver. The tour guide was able to share a lot of interesting information about the various locations. Sometimes the time spent at a stop was a bit short. And for older people, such a tour is a bit too strenuous. Otherwise a nice experience.

We were able to experience all of Madeira's diverse landscapes on this tour: Mountain, forest, cliffs, and sea. Lunch took place in a very friendly atmosphere. A small local rum tasting was also included. Our German-speaking tour guide was very pleasant and shared a lot of information with us.

Very nice overview of the East of the island. A lot of attention paid to ensuring we had a great, worry-free experience. The stop points were long enough to appreciate the points of interest. Good restaurant. To be done without hesitation.

The tour was very beautiful. However, someone fell into the water and that person was not allowed to continue because they were wet and in their underwear. When one sets off together, one does not leave anyone behind because of something like that. One should have solutions ready for such cases that do not mean exclusion from the tour. I did not find that pleasant.
