Madeira "Mystery Tour" - Half Day Private 4x4 Jeep

Our guide Nelio was delightful—courteous, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the island and surrounding areas. He skillfully managed the winding mountain roads and took us to various sights and breathtaking viewpoints, somehow managing to reach our destinations before or after any crowds. I should note that our 4x4 vehicle was clean and reasonably comfortable, but anticipate plenty of bumps and bounces along the way!

If it is your first time to Madeira, then I would highly recommend this tour as a great way to experience the natural beauty of Madeira. Our guide Paolo was fantastic and made our tour an unforgettable experience. He was knowledgeable and entertaining all at once and went out of his way to make sure we got the most out of our tour. I couldn’t recommend him more highly - 5 plus stars!

My two sons and I had an amazing time exploring the island with Paolo! Have a true local navigating the island allowed us to maximize our half-day tour. Even though we were upset we picked a rainy day for this tour, we detoured from visiting the coastal viewpoints and instead spent more time inland at places like Fanal Forest. If and when we return to the island we would definitely do a full-day tour with Paolo to give ourselves more time at each place. Highly recommend!

This was a terrific way to spend our first morning in Madeira! It is customizable, but we couldn’t decide where to go so Paolo planned some wonderful spots for us! Thoroughly enjoyed!

What a wonderful day we had with Spencer. We were only in Madeira for 2 days. In order to experience the full beauty of Madeira you need to get out of Funchal. We spent 8 hours with Spencer. He not only showed us all the magical spots of the island he also gave us the history, politics and named all the flora and fauna.

This exceeded our expectations. We saw so many places on our list. Luckily the weather worked out - the forecast was rain, but the weather was beautiful. We saw: Camara de Lobos (city of monk seals), Cabo Gerão, Sao vicente, Seixal, Porto Moniz, Ribeira da Janela, and the Fanal forest. We stopped for photos in many places: waterfalls, volcanic rock formations, lava pools, black beach, and others. We enjoyed ourselves so much we booked for the next day to see different spots around Madeira.

We were lucky enough to have Dinarte as our tour guide for this and he was just brilliant! He tailored the day and experiences to suit our needs perfectly and we were thrilled to see so much of the island that we would otherwise have no idea about! Dinarte made sure we had regular stops so our daughter could run about but also for us to experience the island that he is clearly so passionate about. We started up in the cloudy mountains, went through the fern forest and ended up at the beach in Machico after having had a few stops at beauty spots and an excellent poncha at a traditional bar somewhere in the hills!! It was amazing, hugely knowledgeable guide, unbelievable scenery and just the best day out. Well worth the money and would highly recommend to anyone who wants to explore the real Madeira and break out from the town for a while. Thank you to Dinarte for making us feel welcome, safe and engaging with our daughter in the way you did, top man!

In our opinion, you can’t do Madeira without a tour— there’s just too much to see and too many hidden gems that our expert tour guide took us to. Our guide not only narrated our drives through the tour and was incredibly friendly and professional, but dropped us off at each location and let us have some alone time to explore. To us, this was WAY better than being crammed in a vehicle with others we don’t know. As a native of Madeira, all of his local connections and stories made the tour priceless. He picked us up at our air b&b and dropped us off after. We had pastries, toured mountains, got up close to a water fall and tried some local honey. If we return, we’d love to do another tour on the other side of the island!

We were a large group of neighbors who had a fabulous time! We were able to customize the tour and really enjoyed it. The company did an excellent job with communication, we’re in time, adjusted accordingly when rain caused a change of plans and were very attentive. Spencer is a great bloke and tour guide! He asked us what we wanted to see and do on our tour with him, tailoring it to us. He was great with our two young kids (7&8) and got them involved showing them things at different stops. Spencer has wealth of information about Madeira that he shared with us, from the history of the island to the different rock formations and the people that live here. This was one of the most fun adventures we had on the island! We wandered off the beaten path and away from tourists. Dinarte was so much fun and shared so much knowledge about the island, he really felt like old friend! This tour is great for anyone looking for a unique experience.

I cannot recommend this tour any higher than 10/10… Dinarte our guide arrived dead on time as we came out cruise terminal and proceeded to take our party of 6 on a fabulous 4 hour tour of Madeira. We were able to go to all the sights and see them before the coaches got there but had a coffee stop and a wine tasting thrown in as well. Dinarte was so passionate about this wonderful Island and knew so much to tell us all, thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it .

We booked a half day tour and on the booking form I had said where we didn’t want to go (since we had been there before) but then also mentioned a few random places we hadn’t seen but had heard about. From this rather confused note from me Dinarte constructed the perfect morning tour for our last day. Had we seen the Valley of the Nuns? No? Then we should go there now as there’s not a cloud in the sky and the view will be amazing. It was! And we got there early before the bus tours arrived. From there we had stops at viewpoints above the clouds, drove through the protected forest, went off road, saw waterfalls and steep sided mountains and valleys. Stopped to sample local produce and had plenty of time to take photos of flowers, trees, fields of crops and kiwi fruit and banana passion fruits growing in the wild. Four and a half hours later (it was a very generous half day) we knew a lot more about Madeira and Dinarte and he about us. He will of course take you to whichever places you specify. But to be honest his hidden gems, off the beaten track and coming from his lifetime of living on Madeira showed a more authentic side to the island. What a thoughtful, knowledgable guide who took great care to make sure we had a terrific experience. I wish him all the best in growing a successful business. It’s so well deserved.

We were recommended Madeira Insideout by a couple we met at our hotel. Despite originally being fully booked we were contacted to say they could offer us an half-day tour, which we accepted and we are so pleased we did. Dinarte (apologies if incorrect spelling) was so knowledgeable, interesting and friendly and managed to pack in such a lot, although we didn't feel rushed. I am a bit reluctant to praise too highly as we are returning to Madeira next year and want to book a full day tour with them let's hope they aren't fully booked up, because they are so good!

Great tour from Spencer- saw loads and loved the swim in the rock pools. Not having a fixed itinerary was great. Spencer did his best to interpret our wishes and great a fantastic morning out. Loads of local knowledge and history as well. Highly recommend.

Fantastic 4 hour tour! We took this tour with our 3 teens and we had a wonderful experience with Spencer. He knew the best places to go see, customized the tour to suit our needs, and was a wealth of information. This was a great way to see the greatest hits while on the island. Highly recommend!

I chose this tour over others because of the flexibility in design. Essentially, you tell the tour guide what you like or don’t like and they make suggestions as to what to see and do. Naturally, if you already know, they will follow your direction. Our tour guide Spencer was fabulous. Friendly, funny and knowledgeable. Provided us with history, relevant facts, great stories and insight. And for you botanists (not us) you can quiz him on any plants you see as he has studied them all (Spencer you can thank me later for suggesting this ;-) Overall, I highly recommend this tour for those not looking to be stuck with someone else’s pre-planned agenda that will only partially satisfy you. Here you get what you want and they do a wonderful job at delivering it a reasonable cost relative to other tours.

I’m from Madeira but it is lota of places that I never been. So we decided to do a tour with Dinarte. He was really professional. He chatted the whole time with us and made as feel comfortable. We also took a 1year old with us and they provided car seat chair. We felt secure. We had such a good time. I do really recommend him. We will do another trip again with him so we get to know Madeira a bit more

The best tour I did on this island … until now)! It’s my third time here, so I already knew some spots - but Dinarte from Madeira Insideout showed my Mum and me incredible and magical places. Some we didn’t see coming and the suprise was really big. They knew the real places, of course there some tourists but it’s not the typical tourist overload! Ask them for other places to combine during the tour and they‘ll do their best. This wasn’t my last tour with Dinarte and Spencer. We were picked up directly by the AIDA. It was a great day trip we had, in perfect German. If I could I would give 6 stars! It was just gorgeous and perfect! Spencer has incredible knowledge and takes you to places where your breath is taken away, tears are in your eyes and you can't stop being amazed.
