Madeira "Mystery Tour" - Full Day Private 4x4 Jeep

Booking a private tour with Madeira Insideout, and being very lucky to be allocated Paulo, made the East side of Madeira a highlight of our cruise. From start to finish, he was friendly, professional, and deeply knowledgeable about the island's nature, culture, and history. He took us away from the crowded tourist spots to breathtaking viewpoints and secret trails, while completely tailoring the pace to what we wanted. Especially loved learning about the trout at the Ribeiro Frio trout farm, where he shared fascinating insights, and then took us further into the local area, showing us more that we never would have discovered on our own. Visited Santana and had a onderful stop in the historic coastal town of Machico. Lovely lunch spot recommended, great coffee, and cake stops! Really enjoyed trying the Madeira wine coffee. Loved stopping at a traditional rum factory to learn about (and taste!) the island's famous sugarcane spirit. Especially as much of the equipment was from Liverpool! Paulo is an amazing storyteller, a safe driver, and incredibly knowledgeable. We had recently suffered family loss which was very raw, and he was just the tonic we needed! Thankyou from pur hearts Paulo! The only negative would be minor repairs to the Landrover needed each time we have used; also, would prefer contact day before rather than going into panic mode cos we haven't heard anything. If you're visiting Madeira, do yourself a favour and book with Madeira Insideout with Paulo or Spencer!

What a fantastic day exploring Madeira with Spencer! He was friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating, and genuinely interested in making our day exactly what we wanted. Having recently returned from Madeira, we enjoyed so many fantastic activities, including the cable car rides to the Tropical and Botanical Gardens, the Monte Toboggan ride, afternoon tea at Belmond Reid's Palace, and lunch at Café Restaurante Gruta. However, the one activity we keep talking about is the Mystery Day Tour with Madeira Inside Out - it was absolutely brilliant. From pick-up to drop-off, the whole experience was enjoyable, informative, and engaging. We identified a few places we would like to visit and then left the rest to Spencer, our driver and guide. Our journey took us through working fishing villages, picturesque towns, breathtaking viewpoints, waterfalls, lava pools, and, of course, an unforgettable off-road adventure through Madeira's forests. The journey between destinations was very much part of the experience. Madeira is a beautiful island, and seeing parts of it away from the crowds made the day even more special. It would be remiss of me not to thank Spencer for making the day truly memorable. He made us feel welcome from the moment we met him. His extensive knowledge of the island, its history, places of interest, flora, and fauna, combined with his great sense of humour, made the experience exceptional from start to finish. For those of you considering a Mystery / Safari tour look no further than 'Madeira Inside out', as having witnessed other tour companies cramming customers into their jeeps, up to 8 people, makes it worth every extra paid for a personalised, comfortable tour.

The guide was great, very friendly and was able to take us to places off the beaten path where it wasn’t as touristy. We requested to stay on the east side of the island. The company was also very accommodating in our pick up location. I would definitely recommend and if we had more time, would have booked another tour to explore the west side of the island.

From the time of pick near our hotel to drop off was a wonderful experience with Paolo, we saw Fanal forest, with the fog rolling in and out, it did not disappoint. Cabo Girao was stunning with the great weather, making it even more breath taking. The off roading was fun, scenic and educational all at once. Paolo was knowledgeable, attentive to our needs as I am an older gentleman and my wife, a knee injury, we were not very mobile, but don't feel we missed out, this was an adventure we will definitely remember.

I suggest you take a look at what you might like to see in Madeira, better enabling your guide to customize your tour. The island is large, and the roads are narrow. There are a lot of common tourist stops that tend to get quite busy.

Spencer picked us up at the cruise port for a very enjoyable full-day tour. We saw the north and south end of the island, and even did some off-roading. That was a lot of fun! He knew the best stops to take pictures and enjoy the scenery. When we stopped for lunch, he recommended a restaurant, and then we had time to walk around and enjoy the beautiful town. Spencer was a great guide, and we really enjoyed spending the day with him. Madeira is a lovely island, and we cannot wait to return. If you are cruising and Madeira is another port of call, this tour maximizes your time in the island. In a few hours we visited the main areas of Madeira. Our favorite place was the Laurisilva/Fanal forest, a Unesco heritage site. Our guide was amazing, gave us a lot of good information. It was a great day with a private driver. I don't think any cruise excursion could replicate this experience!

They did a great job of talking with us and tailoring things to suit our desires. Very knowledgable and the island, its history, and all the various plantings. We spent the full day and saw so much -- our favorite of all the island stops.

My husband, 7 year old daughter and I went on a private tour with Spencer yesterday, and we had an amazing time! He really went above and beyond for us (how far beyond we only realised when we got back to the apartment). Spencer is friendly, good-humoured and definitely knows the island inside out. He took us from one beautiful place to the next. He specialises in botany so make sure to quiz him extensively. I really appreciate that he often checked in with our daughter, who gets motion sickness (but there were plenty of stops and Spencer is a great driver; she was fine!) We warmly recommend him and his company - this tour was a highlight of our trip for sure!

No regret. Spencer was probably one of the best tour guides I’ve ever had. Since it was my first time in Madeira I wanted to see all the popular places and he definitely made that happen for me. Everything from start to end was great and so smooth. His knowledge of the island is impressive, he’s a flower expert too (haha -inside joke). He will give you time to explore every attraction on your own but before doing so, he will provide the history and background of each. Additionally, he was nice enough to stop at a souvenir shop for me. Thank you Spencer and team for this experience. I can’t recommend you guys enough!

Having been to the island a few times and done some of the standard tours we thought we’d try something different and experience some of the less well trodden treats, and we weren’t disappointed. Amazing experience! Paulo was great and catered the day to our needs. He was informative, fun and we had the best day! Sometimes tours can be long but this one flew by and we were sad when it was time to return to our hotel. Highly recommend this company because it's tailored to your own wishes vs one of the larger companies where you get shuffled around with a scheduled itinerary from place to place with little flexibility. We will use them again on our return to Madeira to explore more.

We had a great day with Paulo, we were able to see many beautiful sights of Madeira. He took us everywhere we wanted, he was very kind and attentive, told us many interesting things about the island, drove safely, and even gave us food and drink suggestions, which we already tried some of. A great way to see the island in one day

Spencer and his new recruit Paolo took us on a wonderful day trip through Madeira. We went to some amazing places such as Camara de Lobos, Porto Montiz, Seixal, as well as the Fanal forest just to mention a few. Spencer knows all the back roads and it felt safe in his Landover 4×4. There are quite a few steep mountains in this beautiful island which requires an off road vehicle to access. Spencer did an exceptional job explaining the flora and fauna. I enjoyed his infectious sense of humor and his kindness and courtesy for his colleagues and associates (he is very popular and the locals seem to acknowledge his greetings). He beat the bus tours in most places so we were able to a lot in a short amount of time. I highly recommend tours with his company Inside Out.

Had a fantastic tour of the island with Spencer. He was very knowledgeable and took us to where my partner wanted to capture photographs. His English was very good and we really enjoyed his company. We would not hesitate to recommend this company to book with. It was perfect for a private tour.

Great day travelling around the island with Dinarte. We had a diverse age group from 12-72, and he instantly made us all feel comfortable with his friendly demeanour. We saw everything on our list and much more. The day flew by and was loved by all. Highly recommend this smaller company for a personalized experience.

A wonderful day! We booked a full day private tour and Spencer was our guide who was absolutely brilliant. We went to places we would never have found and he also helped tailor a day that was great for our two young girls. We definitely recommend and yes again when we return!

This was the best day of our holiday. Dinarte our driver was a joy. Born and raised in Madeira - his love for the island was contagious - its people, history and culture - he taught us so much throughout the day. We saw and stopped at a lot of different places - sometimes going off road - mountains, forests, rivers and raging seas - it was EPIC ! Other cars were stuffed full of people - we had the car all to ourselves. This company is one of the smaller ones doing this type of thing - but Dinarte and Spencer - the other guide - are the owners - and are special guys who will look after you. As soon as you meet them you will understand. I cant recommend them highly enough - just book and enjoy !! Thanks for a great day 🙏❤️

Dinarte was a blast to be around - there were a few sites we wanted to see, and he crafted a route to visit those most efficiently and beat the cruise crowds. He also chose a few spots along the way for us to stop and check out that we would not have known otherwise. He was a great driver and we felt very safe the whole time in the Jeep, even going through the narrow mountain roads. Would 10/10 recommend!

Very good trip. Friendly, knowledgeable guide. Flexible. Had good suggestions, but was also open to our suggestions. Made excellent suggestion for lunch stop, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Also, good standard of sensible driving. Needed for those hairy roads!

We weren't sure how to go about seeing many different places on Madeira within a short time, and this tour was the perfect solution. Our guide discussed the plans for the day with us right after pickup and tailored the trip to our specific interest. Throughout the day, he told us many interesting things about the island, as well as took us places we likely wouldn't have gone to traveling on our own. The restaurant he recommended for lunch was excellent but also fairly priced, and the overall experience was overwhelmingly positive. We especially loved the Fanal Forest, and the beautiful coastal views.

Having chosen some private tours before we thought we would do so again with this tour and were not disappointed. Spencer was our guide and despite some bad weather he made the day very enjoyable, hence 5 stars. Nothing was too much trouble and at no point did we ever feel rushed (which is why we like a private tour) Spencer was very knowledgeable and we learnt a lot about the island and its history and its fauna (Spencer “going back to school” really helped! :-) ). Would certainly recommend.

Our 4x4 tour day was a tremendous experience, facilitated by the most fantastic off-road driver and guide, Dinarte. A fountain of local knowledge, limitless energy and unfiltered enthusiasm, he is a larger-than-life character who left a great impression on our holiday to Madeira. Our expedition around the island took us to numerous destinations — some interesting, some beautiful — and Dinarte had stories and anecdotes aplenty to entertain us along the way. My cousin and I had a great day with a private jeep tour of the EStern side of Madeira. Henrique was our driver- very nice with lots of history and knowledge of the island. We let him know specific places we wanted to see and he suggested some additional places to visit. He also took us off road, off beaten paths, visited a campground, tallest peak, coasting lines, Santana and had a wonderful lunch at a place of his suggestion. We absolutely loved our day and highly recommend this driver and company for a tour of Madeira!
