All downhill along the Levada with a wide path through woods and some waterfalls and pools. The last part is perched on the edge of the cliffs with quite narrow paths with a safety rail. Provided you are not scared of heights then the views are amazing

Itinerary
Your tour begins at 9am with pickup from select Funchal hotels, or from another designated meeting point. Be sure to wear sports shoes with a good grip or hiking boots. It is also essential to bring a picnic as there is nowhere to purchase food for the duration of the 8-hour walking tour. Having greeted your guide and travel group, you'll begin your walk. As you walk along the footpath, marvel at the display of light and shade filtering through the laurel and heather trees. Admire the trout swimming in the levada along side the path, which will likely dash for cover at yout approach. As you get closer to Lamaceiros, prepare for some excellent views of the town of Porto da Cruz and Penha d'Aguia (more commonly known as Eagle Rock) far below. After a full day of walking and soaking up marvelous views, your tour concludes back at the original departure point at about 5pm.

I had a very enjoyable hike and tour with Tour Guide, "Ruby." Ruby was excellent! She was friendly, funny, attentive, with a passion for her island and willing to share her knowledge. Our Driver was also excellent. I certainly recommend this Hike/Tour.
We went on this walk with Benny. He was thoughtful and helpful as he led us around the mountain. The only issue I had was that there were 2 younger women that wanted to go fast and they went ahead of Benny. He was trying to keep us all together so we were walking probably faster then usual and made the walk in record time. Not sure if this was a good thing because we lost some of the experience of absorbing the surroundings.
There is ony one route for this. Although rated as 1 out of 3 for vertigo, this was quite scary with the drops. One of our group slipped a foot and it almost went under the metal small wires (luckily the other foot held). You had to put one foot ahead of another in a couple of places where there was NOT room for both feet side by side. The 25 foutains Rabacal, although graded as more 3 /3 vertigo, had lots of options and was less of a great drop on one side.
Sara was an amazing tour leader! She took us through the forest path and explained a lot about the plants and history or the levadas. The bus was very comfortable and the walk very enjoyable and easy 😊 recommend this trip and tour
Excellent guide (Sarah) who was very informative , friendly and professional. Really enjoyed the trip, definitely recommend.
This is definitely the company to use for a guided tour great booking, on time pick up and great guide. We normally prefer to walk solo but the levada walk we felt needed a guide We were not disappointed. Small group. Mixed nationality We loved it
Great tour and a great guide Benny - nice people to walk with as well - the Lavada walk was excellent and Benny was so informative
A great hike through the Madeiran forest in winter. Lots of mud and water and the odd shower of rain added to the adventure. We were guide expertly by Charlotte safely to our destination.
Great day out. Informative and friendly guide , Charlotte- who spoke several languages, lovely sights. Do dress for the weather. Coach picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel.
we did 3 levada walks with Lido tours levada do rei , riberio frio and caldere verde walks our guides Charlotte (twice) and Sara were both excellent and provided lots of useful information would happily use thus company again
Overall great experience with Lido Tours. We did three hikes and had three wonderful days. Great driver, great mountain guide (thanks Sara ❤️).
This is the second time we went for a walk with this company. With them everything is just perfect. The minibus turned up at the pickup even a bit early, which was a bonus. The driver was excellent, safe, but fast enough. Our guide was very knowledgeable, nice and friendly. She gave us clear description of the walk including safety issues, stops, breaks. She kept an eye on the whole group, nobody was left behind even by a minute. The walk itself was amazing, beautiful, not too hard. Very enjoyable, one of our favourite walks in Madeira.
We enjoyed our walk, and our guide was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. We were a group of only 7 which was ideal. We would describe it as easy, but you do need to be careful of tree roots in places. At the time the route wasn't particularly busy. Unfortunately the minibus broke down before we left Funchal, but our guide and driver handled the situation well and a replacement arrived after about 45 minutes which meant there was really little problem. Dealing with Lido Tours was very straightforward and the staff in their office were very helpful. When we went in to pay, the price was lower than the one we had been quoted online, but they happily charged us the lower price!
A very nice levada hike that has almost no slopes and is therefore very pleasant to run. Only at the end did it go down many stairs. Our guide Sarah went to great lengths with explanations and explained flora and fauna very expertly.
Wonderful! You should be lazy, get up early (maybe skip the hotel breakfast) and take the bus to Ribeiro Frio at 8 a.m. You are guaranteed to be hiking alone or almost alone. After 10 a.m. the paths are full. The hike is pretty easy and suitable for almost everyone. A few narrow places - people with a fear of heights might turn back - otherwise very good paths with safety devices. Very pretty. Most of it is downhill. In Portela I had to wait an hour for the bus to Funchal. The hiking time was 3.5 hours for me (quite a slow pace). At the beginning you can look at the trout farm, which is worth it - then at the end the waiting time is shorter). Highly recommended!
We made this takeover with the guide Sara. It was an amazing experience... Sara is very friendly and good communicator. Along the way, it explains the importance of the various species of fauna and flora that we will meet. The landscapes are beautiful and we have captured the 4 seasons of the year. We recommend and hope to make other takeovers with Lido Tours.
mostly relatively wide Levada hiking trail, partly high above the valley with beautiful views; unfortunately also very busy, especially by groups
