Great tour lots of different food and drink experiences, with added history about the island. The pace was good. Also great recommends for food and drinks for the rest of our trip.

Matt was a wonderful guide and host for our delightful foodie stroll through Funchal, Madeira.
Wonderful walking tour of some of Old Town Funchal. Billed as a Food & Wine Walking Tour, but we saw and learned so much more, including about gardens, churches and other historic buildings and areas. Natalia was a fantastic guide; extremely knowledgeable, approachable and friendly. The tour was a full hour longer than originally described and included multiple stops for not only wine and food, but other surprises, as well. Four couples (8 visitors total) made our group intimate and no one felt left out or as a straggler. I could not comment on "Value for Money" since this tour was arranged as part of a travel package, but I would highly recommend this tour for food & wine, history and nature lovers!
Pedro expanded the culinary aspects of the tour to include historical and flora particulars of Madeira which we really appreciated. The food & wine tastings were excellent. We really enjoyed it. Thank you Pedro.
This is a great tour to see Funchal and learn its history, and to sample some of the local cuisine. Everything we tried was very tasty and our guide, Isabelle, was a delight A thoroughly enjoyable 4 hours
Fab food, drink and guide. Highly recomend
Very good walking tour.. great selection of foods and beverages.
We had a lovely time on this tour. Isabel was knowledgeable and personable. Really enjoyed the varied tastings and learning about the history of Funchal.
We had a delightful time eating and drinking like a Madeiran person! We had the chance to be just the two of us with our guide, so he had time to answer all of our questions. Everything we ate and drank was delicious, and it clearly impacted the rest of our food and drink experience during our whole stay. We strongly recommend this tour, and make sure you eat enough before doing it!!
Pedro, our guide, brought the tour alive. He is passionate about the people the place, the food and the drink. Would highly recommend!
An excellent small group food tour (there were 8 of us). Our guide Filipa was very good. We got to try a very wide variety of different foods and drinks, including madeiran wines, local beers, poncho, black scabbard fish, traditional biscuits, fabulous chocolates from Uau Cacau (unbelievably good), tuna fish, fried corn, a traditional pork dish and probably more that i can't remember. While everything about the tour was excellent I'd question the value for money at €81 pp. Nevertheless we really enjoyed it.
We had a tour with Matt today. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took us around and stopped on the way to point out various squares, buildings and historic landmarks. All the places we went to had excellent food and/or drinks! It was very interesting to see the marketplace.
A wonderful way to begin a day - drinking Madeira! A great tour with plenty of varied drinks and food: biscuits, chocolates, fish, pork … no need for lunch afterwards! Knowledgeable guide about the food, wine and local culture and buildings. Worth spending a morning.
We were a very small group, Matt our guide had a great sense of humour and was really informative, giving us plenty of local history, explanations about all the plant life, as well as the local food and wine. The tour was very relaxed and moved at our pace with numerous stops for samples of alcohol and food. For those concerned about accessing toilets there were plenty of opportunities on this tour. A diverse range of foods and wines to sample offering a very pleasant introduction to local eating and drinking habits.
Pedro was a lot of fun, very knowledgeable, and built a great food & wine tour that showcased Funchal and all its flavours picking local spots rather than the colour-by-number touristy locations.
Excellent walking tour of Funchal with a knowledgeable and enthusiastic local, Philippa. Lots of local information and lots of small local eats and drinks along the way all of which were really tasty. A really great way to tour around Funchal and try some local delicacies. Highly recommended.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable tour with lovely people. Matt, our guide was great; very knowledgeable about history, culture, food and even horticulture! A great assortment of food and drink was had. We were thoroughly stuffed by the end. Matt also recommended a great seafood restaurant which we used several times. Thanks Matt.
We’ve been coming to Madeira for over 20 years. This experience took us to some parts of Funchal we haven’t visited before. We were in a small party of ten, different nationalities but everyone was quite friendly. The food tasters were ok but not outstanding. As a food and drink tour, it could have been better.
We had an absolutely fantastic time on the Eating Madeira! Wine and Food Tour in Funchal. Our guide Matt was an incredibly knowledgeable and personable guide who made the entire experience both fun and informative. You could tell he genuinely loves Madeira and was passionate about sharing some of the island’s history, culture, wine, and cuisine with the group. One of the things we appreciated most was the smaller group size, which made the experience feel much more personal and relaxed compared to larger tours. Every stop felt thoughtfully chosen, and together they provided what we felt was the perfect reflection of authentic Madeira cuisine and local flavors. From the food to the wine to the stories behind each location, everything was excellent. If you’re visiting Funchal and want a great introduction to Madeira’s food culture, we highly recommend this tour. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip.
An excellent way to 'see' Funchal and get a 'taste' of Madeira. Our guide, Phillipa, was very knowledgeable, not just about the food and wine, but also about some of the plants and the history of the island. It was a lovely day - all the food and wine we sampled was excellent - but I especially liked the Poncha and the local pork dish. I also enjoyed learning about the traditions of the local food. I did read some reviews before we booked - and the one that said don't eat breakfast before you go as you'll need the room for all the food - was right - but we started drinking at 10am with our first stop at Blandy's Wine Lodge! I'm not used to drinking at 10am (well not for MANY years!), so bear that in mind if you do go! I think I was a tad tipsy before noon. I would recommend this tour as it was a lovely relaxed way to see the city too.
Excellent - our guide was amazing. Very informative! Lots of little “secret” spots to explore:) thank you so much!
This was a truly engaging and interesting tour. Our guide Pedro was passionate and informative from the very start and really took the time to explain the history, the culture and the traditions of food and drink in Madeira. We were also blessed with the weather which made tasting and eating outside even more memorable. Finding local corners and restaurants tucked away in the backstreets of Funchal offering traditional specialities was a delight and I went back to many of them during the week to savour the delights. Having never done a tour before, I was really pleased and enjoyed every minute. The group of tourists on the tour was also friendly and lovely. Thank you Pedro, you are an asset to the tourism of Madeira. I would highly recommend.
We had such a fantastic experience. Our guide was relaxed and friendly, well-informed and made our time together fun. Not to mention everything we ate and drank was delicious! A really great way to see Funchal.
This was simply brilliant. Pedro is one of the best tourist guides we have had. Knowledgeable, able to answer all questions and obviously well liked by the locals who all seemed to know him. We tasted wine, tried authentic food and learned lots. Would highly recommend
Had a wonderful tour on 13th March. Good communication on where to meet. A small chatty group and a great English guide with excellent local knowledge of food, wine and history. Really relaxed and informative. Would highly recommend.
Lovely food and wine tour with a great mix of street food, fruit, Madeira wine, beer, Poncha, desserts, and so forth. The walking isnt intense at all, with everything being reasonably close together. Have a small breakfast before, given you start with wine at 10:00.
Superb Food & Wine tour of Funchal. Only 5 people on the tour which made it very intimate .Everyone got on well with each other which made the day even more enjoyable Particularly enjoyed the Madeira wines from Blandy's
This tour was well worth the cost! It's a good intro to city geography and Matthew the tour guide was very informative. The food and drink provided were excellent.
Interesting tour in Funchal with a very competent guide! Info about buildings and places, combined with tasting food, cakes, fruit and different things to drink gives a special touch of the city and Madeira.. The tour was very well organized! Thanks for letting us know Funchal in this way!
Friendly, unhurried and fun. Tour guide Matt was an excellent guide who has a lovely relaxed demeanour and knows his stuff. An absolute delight of a tour.
Bruno was our guide and he was super funny, a fountain of knowledge, and had tons of tips and tricks for navigating the city. We had a great time and he gave us a list of other places to check out. The spots were all unique and the food and drink phenomenal.
Would highly recommend this tour. We were so fortunate to be the only people so that Philippa, our guide, could was able to provide even more information about Funchal. A really good introduction to Funchal. Thank you very much!
Roberto was very knowledgable and gave us a real insight into Madeira. Whilst softly spoken he had excellent English. We’ve been to Madeira several times however got to see some places we hadn’t been before.
Very nice guided tour which felt very relaxed. A lot of tasting of both typical drinks, food and fruits. Very nice guide!
The tour is easy to join for all ages. The wines and food were delicious. Information provided beforehand is clear. Matt was an amazing tour guide. Because we were in a small group, he took the time to answer any of our questions and introduce us to some of the locals. This made it a memorable experience for me.
Really enjoyed this tour, there was plenty to see and plenty to taste and lots of stops about town. The order could’ve been slightly better (we started with Madeira wine at 10am!) but that’s driven by locations. Our guide gave us a lot of history and personal knowledge and we all really enjoyed it. Would recommend
In this tour we walked in a small group in the center of Funchal. Our guide explained more about the history of Madeira and Funchal, and brought us to eight different location where we could taste different drinks like several Madeira wines, poncha or local beer, and enjoy local food including meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, cookies and chocolates. Overall we spent more than four most enjoyable hours.
What a fantastic activity! Well worth doing. Our guide, Matt was so informative and the 8 stops for food and drink left us too full for a meal later. Small group of 10 meant everyone was involved in the conversations. Although we have been coming to Funchal for 10 years we learned new information!
We had a wonderful time, with great company. Our guide Roberto was a font of knowledge on more than just the food & wine. Highly Recommend
nice walk with excellent guide, helpful and knowledgable, good choices for snacks, not too long, not too short, nice small group outing
Really great tour, Matt was very knowledgeable and good at keeping us informed about all aspects of Maderia. We visited some great places, drank some lovely wine and ate some very tasty dishes. We covered some great parts of Funchal too. Thanks for the lovely time. Highly recommended
The tour was well organized and our guide, Roberto, was full of interesting facts about Funchal. We did cover a lot of ground and visited many spots for food and drink. Food was plentiful as were the drinks provided. Save your appetite for all the good food to be had on the tour. Everything we tried was delicious. I recommend this tour for anyone wanting to get a feel for Madeiran food and drink.
Matt was a wonderful and informative guide. He took us an historical food and drink journey in Funchal, stopping at some historical landmark Madeira wine, biscuit and chocolate locations. Tasty bites of unusual and local fish, cheese and exotic fruits. A smorgasbord of wonderful and new tastes for our uneducated palettes. We are now big fans of the Madeira cuisine.
Great Experience, would highly recommend. Our tour guide Matt was excellent, as well as trying different wines and food, Matt's knowledge on the history of Madeira was very insightful.
Roberto gave us a very nice and personal tour around the city. We really enjoys the company and the tour. The warmest recommendation from us.
Not only did we get to try some delicious food and drinks, but the portion sizes were good. I came away feeling full. Our guide, Roberto, was very knowledgeable about the island and shared all this info with passion and humour.
Informative and interesting tour highlighting different aspects of Madeiran food and drink. Tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable and felt like part of the group.
We booked this tour for the second day on our short mid week break. I always book a food / walking tour in every city and country I travel to and this tour was up there as one of the best. Robert was an excellent guide. We not only discovered the amazing history of Madeira and the city of Funchal but had some lovely food and drink. We covered quite a lot in the time that we had. Stops included chocolate, cake Madeira, fruit and some amazing fish. You would not necessarily find these places by just wandering. What a great experience, thanks Robert!
My partner and I loved this tour. Our guide Matt was so knowledgeable and great! I loved how he incorporated history of Madeira along with cultural food and wine. The tour was full of wonderful bites, desserts and a great lunch at the end! Highly recommend this tour and Matt as your guide!
