The tour was filled with beautiful sights and the tour guide was informative, he was not very patient or that friendly however.

Itinerary
Terreiro da Luta - above 700m from monte A visit to the is highly recommended, overlooking the capital of Funchal course, but also for the importance of the historical landmark in this space. The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Peace, the largest monument on the island, measuring five meters in height. This statue was a promise made to the locals carried out as part of the promise made to the Madeirans during the bombings carried out by German submarines on Funchal, in 1917. Crafted in marble, in honor of Nossa Senhora do Monte is part of the emotional heritage of the people of the island. Around the statue, you will find the biggest rosary beads in the world, bringing many people to pray for peace. At this stop there is also a coffee shop and rest rooms paid for.
After driving through the national park, flowers growing wild on the side of the roads, the black forest with the tall christmas pines brings us to the famous, skywalk to heaven. One of the islands most popular walks bringing visitors from all over the world. Pico Arieiro. At 1818 meters above sea level, the third highest point on the island of Madeira. From this elevated location, the view from all sides of Madeira, from Funchal, down to the nuns valley, To the western side, Ponta de São Lourenço, Porto Santo island, and the deserted islands the unique grandeur of the Madeiran Mountain Massif, with the Atlantic Ocean in the background. When weather permits, beautiful photos can be taken of the beautiful colours and rock formations, overlaping one another. At this stop there are also restaurantes and rest rooms also paid for.
Descending from the mountain, into the green rainforest (laurissilva)of ribeiro frio (cold river), springs, waterfalls, along the river bed covered by intense endemic vegetation, protected by unesco, world heritge, this ecosystem allows the observation of bird life such as the bis-bis/Firecrest (Regulus madeirensis), the chaffinch (Fringila coelebs madeirensis) or, more rarely, the long toed pigeon (Columba Trocaz) the Ribeiro Frio Aquaculture Station, whose rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss, repopulate the island's waterways. While you're visiting this forest park, you can enjoy some walking trails such as the Balcões, short easy walk of 45 minutes along the waterchanel (levada)into an amazing viewpoint, with a mountain view, riverbed of Faial village, the sea and the eagles rock muntain, that serves as a bridge to separate the two villages; Faial and Porto da Cruz. (Please note the walk of 45 minutes is not compulsory). Please book walk Pr11 Balcões through simplifica slot 11h00.
Guindaste Viewpoint, along the old roads or Faial, enjoying the green scenery of all the vegetation, steep slopes of agriculture terraces, where the vegetables and fruits, wine and sugarcane cover every piece of land. Between Faial and Santana. Guindaste the unmissable beauty of its surroundings, marked by the harmony between the verdant mountains, the imposing cliffs that mark the coastal geology and the clear sea waters. Pebble beach of Foz da Ribeira do Faial and the peculiar geological structure that lies beside it. A prismatic, or columnar, disjunction resulting from lava flows. This viewpoint also allows you to look at the north coast of Madeira, which forms a queeue from Faial to Ponta de São Lourenço, Eagles Rock. On a good day , it is also possible to see the island of Porto Santo. The glass bridges show you further down into the sea. Considered to be the romantic point of the island, where people go even further and propose to their partners.
Around lunch time, we arrive at Santana, covered by a green blanket of laurel forest, vineyards and houses that once told the many stories of the population of this city. Small triangular houses, covered with wheat thatch. Small spaces, where numerous families lived without luxury. When passing by these houses, we can see houses that are over 240 years old. On the weekends, the farmers get together to sell their crops in the farmers market. A stop for lunch of one and half hours will give guests the oportunity to have something to eat and drink. Meals such as wheat soup, special santana bread, Pregos (Maderian steak sandwich on the bolo do caco bread with garlic butter.), fried maize are typical of this region. A visit to the square of Santana with more typical houses and the garden that surrounds this square is also a must during this stop.
The name of Porto da Cruz comes from a cross that the first settlers erected in that harbor, making it one of the first places on the north coast of Madeira to be inhabited. The landscape, majestic Penha D’Águia, which separates the parishes of Porto da Cruz (Machico) and Faial (Santana), and by the lush Laurissilva Forest in the Ribeiro Frio mountains. The production of sugar cane used to produce white rum, brandy represents the great production of that location, contributing to the production of rum that is used in our famous poncha cocktail. Porto da Cruz distillery, is one of 4 that operates on very old machinery. During the winter season from March to May, the sugarcane is cultivated, crushed and transformed into rum. During this visit, rum tasting is included, a visit to the village. Outdoor activities and adventure sports, including surfing, paragliding and mountain biking, are some of the examples that make the parish of Porto da Cruz a true reference at a regional level.
Driving through the first Capital Machico, on the otherside of the tunnel is the dry part of Madeira, Caniçal the fishing village for the big tuna fish, seafood. On the harbor the boats all lined up ready to go out. This Village tells the story of our whales once hunted in this region. Ponta de São Lourenço, is undoubtedly the biggest local reference for people coming in by ship or plane or car, true geological and natural cult landscape, with unique scenes that show the outline of the peninsula, the hidden bays and the beaches of natural sand. On a clear day a view of Porto Santo Island and the deserted island are visible. This is considered the cherry on top of cake attraction.
Machico, our old capital, served as capital for almost ninety years, the sugarcane fields, cultivated teraces overlooking the old harbor and the beach (white sand from Maroco), the monuments such as the church, fortress. The runway that joins two cities together Machico and Santa Cruz, the old and new part of the airport is a great attraction on our way back to Funchal.

Not as interesting as west coast tour for us. The stop by the runway was unnecessary. Too long stays at some places
Everything went well pick up on , all places wonderful enough time to take a picture. Was fantastic day Thank you
Was great, last minute arrangements worked well , Louise helped us a lot, very friendly and accommodating
Timings and itinerary worked very well. Really enjoyed the Balcoes short levada walk. Excellent and informative guide and very good driver. Tour never felt rushed and sufficient time to see sights.
The tour was the greatest! We were able to see so much of the east side of the island in a day and everything was beautiful. Our tour guide, Carlos, was so nice, funny, and helpful. It was an amazing time.
We highly recommend the East Tour and in particular Marco as the tour guide. The tour was a fantastic experience and visually thrilling. Marco greatly heightened the experience with his knowledge of the Islands history, flora and fauna, politics, economics and gastronomy. A great day out and a round of applause to Marco.
Great tour by Gama very thorough but the Viator agents did not have the right information when we booked the tour which very much inconvenienced us. Hence not 5 stars.
Great tour, beautiful scenery . Especially enjoyed Levada walk. Guide was personable, pointed out plants and cracked jokes. Enjoyed our day
Really interesting tour of the east and north of the island. Partick was our guide and very informative about Madeira. We enjoyed all the stops but particularly the levada walk and the cliffs.
Too tourist and crowded with other coach/bus tours. Not for us. We left after an hour and got a taxi back to Funchal.
The views were stunning. The tour guide was amazing and knowledgeable. Knew the areas really well. His knowledge of the trees and plants was exceptional.
Excellent value for money. Slightly small minibus for lots of people and some of the time allocated for it the stops was short but all in all a great way to see a large amount of the island
Great way to see both mountain region, forested valleys and seascapes. Just 7 in a minibus. Carlos was very easy going, no hurries or worries. The 45 min levada walk was a treat. Couldn't possibly have done the driving ourselves. Excellent value. Thank you Carlos.
pro’s Well organised Knowledgeable tour guide Comfy van with air con Safety first Plenty of time to see sights (maybe spend a little longer at pico de aireo as it’s stunning!!!!) Tour guide was friendly with other tour guides and locals. Tour guide arranged lunch for us in Santana and called restaurant to order ahead. Tour guide was kind to kids and elderly. Tour was wonderful. Madeira sights ( the company) called Me within hours of booking to let me know the pick up time. Tour guide also told us all about his company and the history! True passion for his country and his company ❤️
This is a must if you are visiting the island, the tour guide Michael is friendly and welcoming person, he shared with us many insights during the tour around Madeira very knowledgeable! The tour is well explained and there’s enough time on each place to take a look and enjoy the views and experiences. Totally recommended! Keep up with the great work guys well done! Best Diego!
Fabulous 8 hour trip. Superb driver who was really chatty and informative. We visited one of the mountain peaks, Santana village, did a levada walk through a unesco forest, a sky walk and a rum tasting. Lucy told us a lot about the history of the island and showed us the wonderful vegetation.
The whole trip was fab. The tour guide Michael was friendly and very informative. There was so many great sights and many I hadn't seen before. I have done many trips but I think this was my favourite. Can't believe how reasonably priced it was.
Sent a few emails for pick up info but never got a reply. Finally got in contact with direct phone calls but they made a mistake on the number of people booked on that day. Driver was very helpful and made arrangements so we didn’t have to split up. After that, it was a lovely and memorable day. It was unfortunate that we had to skip one of the locations because of traffic problems. It was a cosy little group and met two lovely couples from the USA. It basically covered the main points that you need to visit on this side of the island and l would recommend it.
Fantastic tour! Michael was a brilliant driver and tour guide, highly recommend him. Only 6 (including us 2) in the group, beautiful places we stopped off, lots of space in the minibus and picked up right outside our hotel. Thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend!
Carlos was an amusing knowledgeable guide who made our day.. lots of lovely walks and photo opportunities.
This was a really nice trip, we ended up getting to see a ton of beatuiful locations! This is definitely something that I can recommend you guys do!
We enjoyed the great scenery and the rum tasting. The guide was excellent and kept us informed all of the trip.
We were so happy with the tour! Our amazing guide Marco was very knowledgeable and generous! Much more than a day excursion with exceptionnal sites, we learned about Madeira culture. We highly recommand this tour, and Marco!
We found the east tour to be a great experience. It was the perfect accompaniment to the west tour which we did earlier in the week. They were so different in character and gave us a look at the different scenery of the island. Tony was a very careful driver around some spectacular roads and the day was varied and interesting. The company went the extra mile for its customers. We would recommend
This tour was amazing, takes to all the locations thats worth going in madeira. The guide was amazing and funny, really worth going on this tour.
Excellent value full day tour made all the more interesting with our driver/ tour guide, Tony, who was superb and had so much knowledge to share, and in 3 different languages on our particular trip. Throughly recommended.
I decided to sign up for this tour because I wanted to experience more of the island without having to drive. I have to say, taking this tour was the best decision I made while there. Tony, my tour guide, went above and beyond to make this tour the BEST experience for me and left me with memories of beautiful Madeira to last a lifetime! There was no place on the east side of the island left unexplored and there were no questions Tony couldn't answer, being he is a native to the island of 26 years. I keep saying "me", because everyone canceled the morning of the tour, leaving only me. Secret Madeira could have easily canceled the tour all together, but instead they decided to upgraded me to VIP, driving me around in a Mercedes all day!!! I cannot thank Secret Maderia enough! Do yourself a favor and book with this tour company, you will not regret it!
We were picked up on time by Tony, our guide, and after picking up one more couple we made our way to the first stop; the mountain village of Camacha where the main wickerwork factory was based - they stopped making it due to plastic chairs being cheaper and easier to produce, sadly. There's not much to see in the village but the drive there offered breath-taking views and scarily narrow mountain paths. From there we made our way to the Pico do Arieiro Radar Station via Eucalyptus forests and steep gullies. When I read the description of the East Tour I wasn't that impressed but, in actual fact, the landscape is fabulous and well worth the trip. The thought of visiting a radar station didn't really grab me either but, in actual fact, this was the highlight of the trip for me as the golf ball like structure was truly fascinating as it sparkled against the low sun. I found the narrow paths leading to the viewpoints terrifying as the drop down was staggering, however, I was glad I persevered as the views were truly spectacular. Going on holiday during a pandemic has its advantages as there are no queues to view monuments, which is brilliant. I can imagine that the half-hour we had to spend at the radar site would've been spent waiting for queues of people to take photos at the trig point at the top of the hill where the radar was situated, whereas the place was practically empty! We made our way down to the Ribeiro Frio (cold river) where we visited a trout farm. It was rather a cruel place with the fish packed into small containers. One poor female fish was in a small tank alone waiting to be used for breeding purposes. I can't say I enjoyed this part of the trip but the town in the immediate area was nice with a lovely church. Unlike back in Scotland the churches remain open for visitors. We did a levada (irrigation) walk where you make your way along the narrow paths at the sides of the levada to a lovely viewpoint where there were chaffinches who would eat out of your hand (if you had any food with you). Unfortunately for us Tony failed to tell us about the birds so we didn't know to buy seeds at the shop en route. However, luckily, a generous tourist shared her seeds with us. It was truly wonderful watching these beautiful birds feeding and I'm glad, thanks to this kind woman, that we got the opportunity. We travelled via the area of Faial to Santana where examples of the typical thatched houses of Madeira were located. The inside of these tiny dwellings reminded me of the Tenement House in Glasgow, which is a single-end property where the bed, kitchen and living room is in the same room, practically. As we were here in December every village we visited had a Nativity Scene in the main square and some of the most beautiful decorations I've ever seen. At Santana there was the option to have a typical Madeiran lunch in a local restaurant for around 13 Euros but we were not aware of that until the day of the trip and had brought a picnic with us. On the way down the mountainside we visited the ancient capital of Machico, then onto Ponta de São which has some spectacular rock formations. We called in to a Rum Factory in Porto da Cruz where we got to sample the various drinks on offer such as Poncha - a mixture of honey and alcohol, the local rum and other liqueurs. The trip started around 8:45 am and continued to 19:00 pm. The time flew by as our guide was interesting and the landscape beautiful. I would thoroughly recommend this tour - it's much more interesting that the description on the company website.
I was there on April 26th in Madeira. Gamma was a true professional; he showed us all the places, including others that were not on the agenda. He was punctual and took us back to the cruise on time. He coordinated the food and all the details. We felt very safe in his vehicle. Thank you, Gamma, for such a great experience!
Nice tour, although the weather in the mountains did not quite play along. The ascent to Pico do Arieiro was completely in the clouds; therefore, an ascent to the summit at 1° Celsius was not worthwhile. As the tour progressed, the weather improved and you got many nice impressions. A special thanks to our guide Marco, who gave us a lot of information about the country and people and was very concerned about our well-being.
The cliffs and the view from the Pico were fantastic, we would have liked more time, the rest was not so dolle, the Eagle Rock again a great sight, but in Santana 30 minutes would be enough if you did not eat there lunch. The guide told a lot about the area, that was well done.
We had a lovely and varied tour with Lucy. Admirable her language skills, with which she responded to all participants.
Best way to say goodbye to the island. From Pico do Arieiro, walk by Ribeiro Frio, typical houses of Santana, Ponta de São Lourenço was an excursion that was worth every minute.
