We stayed in the hotel part of Vila Baleira Village in Porto Santo and really enjoyed our stay. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, and the location was perfect with the beach just a short walk away. Our room was very clean, spacious, warm and cozy. The breakfast was quite good. The staff were very friendly and helping us when we had questions about bike rentals and reservations of a taxi. A wonderful place for a relaxing getaway!

Overall, the experience was a huge let down. The food was kiosk-style frozen meals. The location is almost as much away of everything as can be. The rooms are good, but moldy. The service reception was very and effective, but extremely slow and well, poor at the bar. It's really hard to recommend this to anyone really. If something positive, this place is quiet and tidy.
Please stay at this hotel! - Our door key worked; we didn’t have to use a hard key. - You can indeed hear everything in the corridors, which only added to the warm and fuzzy feeling of community and togetherness. - Our safe worked. It even fits a 16” inch laptop. - We did not witness any plates being thrown. - We also didn’t meet Paula, but the staff seemed nice. - Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great, but the hotel made up for that by having a pool that basically offers the same as the beach, us tourists come for.
Where to start, we were greeted to the hotel my a nice receptionist and checked into our rooms, and then - the nightmare began. Although we hadn’t eaten all day as we just arrived on the Porto Santo line, we went to the “restaurant” at the hotel who told us al la carte would be unavailable and that the hotel does not cater for “snacks” or any meals under their 3 course package until 3pm. We wanted to pre order for 3pm to be told the hotel does not have a menu in place yet and closest supermarket was over 45 minutes away for a sandwich. After returning to our hotel room to wait for 2 hours until 3pm with my hungry, pregnant wife and 2 year old son we were greeted by a broken shower head. Once we came back down to the restaurant we were ignored for again a long time and spoken to in an awful manner by the restaurant host. (We were the only guests in the restaurant so it was odd why she would ignore us the whole time we were there and give us an evil look when we asked for anything. After a long wait, I went back to the room and my wife would suggest them to bring the food upstairs so we didn’t have to wait. (as we had an upset and hungry infant with us) When me and my wife told the receptionist about the ordeal of waiting , my wife was met by the restaurant host abusing her , asking why she “told the receptionist” and she was not a “dog” and she only “worked there” which no one claimed her to be. We just wanted very basic assistance in a supposedly 4 star hotel. Once the food was ready , she pointed at the tray for my wife to carry her own lunch to the room. My wife tried to pick up the tray over her stomach and the plates all slipped for the tray and fell on the floor. Which led to my wife coming to our hotel room upset and in tears. After complaining to the receptionist again, we wanted a general manager at hand. No one was in attendance. I was ready to check out immediately. Two receptionists did come up to the room after the drama caused and apologised for the ordeal and on behalf of the hotel, which I did appreciate after what had happened. They provided us with another order and the receptionist told us she would be supervising personally the food so it wasn’t tampered with by restaurant host. Of course, even though this was done and she was nice and tried problem solving, it wasn’t nice enough for me to billed the following morning for that same tray. The party I came with convinced us not to leave on the 27th immediately after the ordeal , otherwise it would ruin our planned family stay in Porto Santo. We agreed to stay and put this drama behind us so we could enjoy the rest of our trip with our family. The following morning we were greeted at reception in a friendly manner by the same receptionist and continued our day. Come check-out we went back to the restaurant to have a coffee whilst we waited for our taxi to arrive. The lady from the previous day refused to serve me and made up lies that my wife through a plate at her (a ploy which she created after she was told her peers knew of her actions after the plates fell from her tray) and she claimed we wouldn't be having anything to eat or drink whilst she was working. Once I argued back and left for the reception area she began hitting tables and telling all the other customers her version of events which left my pregnant wife red-faced and embarrassed. Very unprofessional. Afterwards we dismissed ourselves from the restaurant and waited for the taxi to arrive in the safer reception area. Another polite receptionist was there at hand this time , she also stated that the behaviour witnessed by her was unacceptable from the lady in the restaurant .. whilst waiting for this taxi (15 minutes felt like 1 hour) in this anxious period, she then she walked past and then began talking to two men outside the hotel front in the car park entrance. These men just turned up after the ordeal (not in uniform) who began also looking our way , again making us feel unsafe with a pregnant lady and children present.
Please don’t stay in this hotel: - My door key wasn’t working; I had to use a hard key. They said someone would come to fix it, but no one did. - I had to use one of my card to turn the lights on. - You can hear everything in the corridors and next door; there is a gap between the door and the floor. - My safe wasn’t working. - The worst part was the service we received from Paula in the restaurant, who argued with paying customers because they complained about waiting for food for over an hour the day before. - She refused to serve customers and made up lies about plates being thrown at her, telling other customers about it. The truth is, she refused to help a heavily pregnant lady carry a heavy tray, and when my sister in law picked up the tray, one of the plates slid off because it was full. - When I asked to speak to a manager, no one was in charge. The complaint from the day before wasn’t logged, and no one was dealing with it the next day. This is why this person could continue her bad behavior and speak to customers however she liked. - I have stayed in many hotels and have never seen anything like this. I am just shocked at how this hotel is run and how this person got a job in customer service. We were so excited to go to Porto Santo with the family, but our experience was ruined by hotel staff, for which we paid a lot of money to stay.
