There are 3 hotels nearby. We had mo reception, so gad to walk down to reception of main hotel to check in + check out. Our room was on ground floor First eve we saw many ants in our bathroom.... By second night they were crawling on our bedroom locker. I went to reception, and they transferred us to a first floor room for the last night. ZERO ants thank God Be prepared for a long bus ride into funchal Bus every 30 min approx weekdays Very cheap to travel

These are actually three hotels joined together. The service and room are of a good standard. The hotel is located far from Funchal and you have to take a taxi or Uber for about 15 euros. There are outdoor pools with amazing views of the sea and islands. And an excellent spa and a heated indoor pool.
We had an amazing stay in Cais da Oliveira. It is the oldest building from Rocamar hotel complex, so the rooms are bit dated, but very spacious, super clean and with amazing sea views from the balcony. You have to walk few minutes to the restaurant for breakfast or evening drink, as it is served in Rocamar hotel, however thanks to this Cais da Oliveira is probably the quietest from all 3 hotels and you can rest very well. We loved the pools (3 in total in the complex + indoor spa) and direct access to the sea. There was plenty of free sunbeds every day. Breakfasts were very good and the terrace where you can sit with ocean views is just amazing. Hotel offers private parking for 7eur/day, which is definitely recommended as to find spot in surrounding streets was usually pretty difficult. Canico appeared to be perfect location to explore the island as you are 10 mins from Funchal and 20mins-1hr from all the remaining spots/hiking routes of the island - but it is more relaxed than Funchal and much more sunny than the northern coast. Supermarket and multiple dining options (italian, portuguese, fish, asian, russian) are within 5 min walk from the hotel and all pretty good, with good prices as well. (No tourist traps like in funchal) Staff was always professional and helpful. The only minor drawback was mediocre wifi. Overall we really enjoyed our stay in Cais da Oliveira, I think it offers very good price-quality ratio, and we are already missing our time in Madeira!
Great hotel and apartments. The spa is great and worth a visit. The sauna is ok and little cold but the Turkish room/steam room is great. The rooms were clean. The breakfast is lovely and lots of choice. The location is good but word of warning Madeira is very hilly. Great local restaurants and few bars.
Great sea view, friendly reception, cleaners come in every day not much to do in village but good walks. Only 2 English channels so take books to read but relaxing. Good food at one restaurant called the"snack bar"don't be put off with the name food is really good and prices v reasonable. Hotel has bus to the capital at 5 euros which is worth it trouble is doesn't pickup till 17.30 so it's a long day
