Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel

A Warm, Luxury Welcome From the moment we arrived, tired after a long day of trekking, the staff at Sumaq made us feel truly at home, meeting every request, big or small, with genuine warmth and care. This is five star luxury done right: spacious, elegant rooms with every comfort, an excellent restaurant with a menu that respects local flavors and a design that is modern yet deeply rooted in Peruvian culture, warm and never generic. A truly special touch: the staff surprised me with a lovely gesture in my room for my birthday, making the stay unforgettable. Attentive, authentic, and genuinely luxurious. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Machu Picchu.

Positives. The staff is friendly, attentive, and wants you to have the best experience. Upon arrival they allow you to sit and bring you a delicious fruity drink while you check in instead of standing at a desk. The rooms are stocked with nice robes, slippers, and toiletries. They also provided delicious chocolates as a welcome. They supply bottles of water and much of the snack fridge is free. They supply restaurant went out of their way to ensure I was able to have a safe meal due to food allergies. Jennifer and Omar were both so helpful! Another service they had was to pick up luggage at train station and store it while we explored Machu Picchu. They also stored our luggage after we checked out and met us at the train station with it before we departed. Very nice touch! Sadly, overall the property needs a lot of attention. There is an overwhelming smell of perfumes and at times it seemed as though it was masking odors that crept through. Our first room had a very strong musty odor. It also was a “garden” view, but unfortunately has a train that runs directly behind it until 1am in the morning. We requested a room change and they were very accommodating. We were disappointed when after 5 minutes of being in the room a large spider was running across the floor and again this room had a musty smell.

Lovely property right on the river with easy access to the town and Machu Picchu. The rooms were comfortable and a decent size, although the bathrooms were kind of dark (needs more lights) and getting into the tub was a little tricky. The group dinner we had was very good and the breakfast was excellent. Recommended.

The rooms were beautiful, and we especially appreciated the thoughtful details throughout our stay. The bath amenities were excellent, the shower was wonderful after long days of exploring, and touches like the pillow mist and foot lotion made the experience feel extra special and memorable. The restaurant was another standout. Not only was the setting beautiful, but several of our dinners here were among the best meals we enjoyed during our entire trip to Peru. The food, presentation, service, and atmosphere were all outstanding. The location could not have been more convenient for visiting Machu Picchu, making it easy to focus on the experience rather than logistics. What truly elevated our stay, however, was the service. Every member of the team was warm, welcoming, and attentive. We were especially impressed when the hotel coordinated the delivery of our luggage directly to the Hiram Bingham train, allowing us to fully enjoy our final morning without worrying about our bags. It was a small detail that made a big difference and perfectly reflects the level of hospitality at SUMAQ. If you’re visiting Machu Picchu and looking for a hotel that combines luxury, exceptional service, beautiful dining, and an authentic Peruvian feel, SUMAQ is an outstanding choice. Highly recommended.
