Wonderful tour guide and experience. Started the tour with the remains of an old Roman settlement under a hotel and it just got better from there. Maastricht is the oldest city in the Netherlands and is full of history. It’s a beautiful, clean city with history intertwined with modern but still keeps the character of the past. A very enjoyable, easy, walk and didn’t feel like it was 2 hours long.

Itinerary
The Vrijthof, in the heart of Maastricht, Netherlands, is a historic, lively square surrounded by preserved buildings, churches, and eateries. It hosts events, making it a cultural hub and a must-visit. The guide wil have his personal story from the square
The Helpoort, in Maastricht, Netherlands, is a medieval city gate, one of the oldest in Europe. Its stout stone structure offers a glimpse into the city's rich history. The guide has a great story about this place.
The Dominicanenkerk, also known as the Dominicanerkerk, is a Gothic church in the center of the Dutch city of Maastricht, located on Dominicanerkerkstraat 1, near Vrijthof. The church was constructed in the 13th century as a monastery church for the Dominican order. It is now a bookshop and a great one!
We make a long walk with different stops, the tour is about 1-hour storytelling at different highlights in Maastricht And 1 hour walking it is about 2 miles or 4 to 5 km long.

Our Guide Ana was friendly and communicated well. The walk was easy going and I was introduced to Maasterricht’s sweet speciality Limburghse Vlaai.
Tour guide was amazing, very knowledgeable about the city. Very relaxed and enjoyable. Learned many new things about Maastricht.
Chris was a great and very knowledgeable tour guide!
Easy pace, and lots of interesting facts. Also I liked that we went away from main touristic area. Karen is a great guide
We enjoyed our tour with Chris/Kris (sp?) who was very friendly, knowledgeable and answered all our questions. Unfortunately no ghost stories though :)
Interesting, but not enough history. We could have visited the Roman remains rather than be told about them
It was a very nice experience. I had the chance to learn a lot about Maastricht history and take a glimpce at many hidden places.
Just perfect. Ronan was superb and took us to the best parts of the city. Thanks so much.
Ronan gave us a very enjoyable and informative tour of Maastricht, stopping at some wonderfully picturesque sites with entertaining stories. Very much recommend.
Tour guide did not show up. There was no tour.
I highly recommend booking this guide, as he is very personable and has a great sense of humor. Thanks for the tour.
A local guide from Maastricht conducted this city tour and she bought the development of The Netherlands oldest city from start to present day. It was truly a fabulous experience!
I had a very poor experience with this tour. I came 1 minute late and couldn't find the group! "Viator" gave the address that noone wasn't able to find. For half an hour I tried to find the group and went to different directions. There was no phone number for contact and of course noone connected me. It was a waste of my money and it rounded my day. Hope you'll post my comment and won't hide it. Hope that you'll compensate me for this bad experience with your company
Karen did a great job. Very informative. Added a lot of local color enjoyable. Would highly recommend.
Guide left me behind and never checked for me after first stop on the tour. I went out looking but could never find him. I was first into the first stop and came out quickly but never saw him again.
Very knowledgeable guide ( Karen). Friendly and helpful. Maastrict is a beautiful city with some hidden gems that we wouldn't have found without the tour.
Chris was our guide for this 2 hour walking tour. She took us to places off the beaten path and we learned so much about this historical, beautiful city. She was both articulate and passionate about her home city making this extra special.
Christine was a very nice and entertaining guide. She could tell us a lot and shown us special things of Maastricht. Wouldn't have missed it. We've learned a lot, thank you very much!
Correctly named walk with a local. It’s not a walk and talk with detailed history, it’s more a mixture of information about the city that you would most likely know if you lived in the area and took a general interest. Nice walk around.
Excellent historic tour of places in Maastricht tourists and many locals don’t know about. Very knowledgeable guide.
The walk leader was Chris who was excellent. The walk is around the walls near the river and other interesting buildings. Do not recommend if you have a buggy or struggle with steps. A pretty city and enjoyed the walk. I would recommend to do this walk in Spring or Summer.
Our guide, Sebastian, was very knowledgeable, humorous and kind. Learned lots on this walk. The 2 hours went by fast.
The guide never showed up and when I asked TripAdvisor for my money back and a free trip, they agreed to pay the money but provided no other compensation. I would not trust TripAdvisor to care for their clients.
Most of the tour was centered around how the Maasricht was different from Netherlands,no WW2 history was provided ,nor Architectural insight..average
Kris our tour guide was knowledgeable and passionate about the town she has grown up in. I liked that Kris showed us and explained little details that we would have missed and walked straight past. Enjoyable tour.
Our guide was Gilbert and he gave us some interesting information about the sights in Maastricht. Just the right amount of history details . Our group of 8 friends enjoyed it very much.
Good tour, guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. She knew the city very well and had lots of stories and information about the history and the current life in the city
This is seriously one of the best deals ever. Our tour guide was on time, he was super nice, his English impeccable, and his knowledge was vast. I learned so much about Maastricht and its history. Fascinating! And, I look forward to checking out their carnival next February (that history and information was very interesting, and entertaining!). These are just a few of the photos I took. What a GREAT day! Please be prepared to tip extra, because he really deserved it! Encore dikke merci ! 😀
Sebastian was a great guide - very informative and interesting. Liked the variety of topics he covered - he was able to communicate effectively to people from several different nationalities
A great way to see and learn about Maastricht. Our tour guide Ronan, a university student, delighted in showing us around as sharing insights from historical sieges, architecture to local foods to try a dinosaurs!
Excellent tour with the bonus of an excellent guide Ronan. So much knowledge and information passed on made it really good. Plus he was good as we had two members of our family who are blind. Would highly recommend this tour plus if you get. Ronan a real bonus👍👍👍👍👍
Excellent tour. Chris was very knowledgeable and took us to many places we would not have found on our own. Would definitely recommend this tour!
Had a student as the walking guide and although her overall knowledge was excellent, she was clearly inexperienced and got distracted by external things happening and still need to refine as to what information to share and would be of interest to tourists.
Our guide Ronan did a great job, despite the rain that picked up halfway through. Maastricht is an interesting town, and we got to know it much better than we would have on our own.
Such a wonderful experience. Chris was SO knowledgeable about the history of Maastricht. She was a delight. Truly enjoyed it, even with the heat.
Guide was a no show - very disappointed. No apology or refund offered since. Xxxxxxx. Xxxxxx xxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxc xxxxxxx xxxxx. Xxxxxx
Fantastic experience with a great guide who took very good care of my family. Johannes showed us very interesting sites and did a great job providing background and context when needed. We learned a lot and had fun doing so.
I joined the tour on December 28th as a solo traveler and enjoyed it immensely. Our host was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, sharing fascinating stories, including her personal experiences as a Maastricht local. She managed the group exceptionally well, even during the busy Christmas break, with 20 people joining us. Despite the group size, she ensured that all questions were answered. Highly recommended!
The guide was very knowledgeable and excited to talk about Maastricht. It was the highlight of my trip and being able to know more about the history and local culture helped me enjoy my visit more
Gerard was entertaining and knowledgeable. We loved hearing the history behind a key area of Europe that has been under the control of multiple countries over the centuries. The recommendations for further exploration and eating options were very helpful!
The guide was let’s say ………Jolly. She brought her A game and made the walking tour fun and upbeat. She mixed it up thus enriching the experience. Very informative! Loved it👌🏽
Daniel was amazing!! He was so knowledgeable and an excellent ambassador for Maastricht! Although it was raining, we had an fantastic time.
Nice tour with a slow pace! The guide was good and polite, he gave us a little bit of interesting info on every spot we went to,
Very interesting walking tour especially the old city walls. Tour covered such a vast area. It was a two hour trip but Marco extended it by an extra half hour. Very enjoyable and at a steady pace
I arrived at the meet-up spot at 1:32 for the 1:30 tour and couldn't find the group. There was no contact information to reach out to the guide, and I can only assume that they left right before I arrived. I cannot say how informative the tour was otherwise, as I didn't have time to join in at a different time on my trip.
Daniël is a wonderful guide! Visiting Maastricht for the first time I would have been happy just exploring the city on my own, but Free Walking Tour Maastricht really enhanced my trip. Daniël (who admittedly was a student not born there) led the group around the city and told us a story about the history and culture that is unique to Maastricht. Rain or shine, first or return visit I highly recommend spending time on this tour. Thank you Daniël for giving a tour Maastrichters could be proud of!
We joined the walking tour on the 30th of December, 2023. The tour was highly informative and took us all over the city to the main sights. Our tour guide really knew his stuff and made the walk a fun-filled experience, with a few jokes sprinkled in. I would highly recommend the tour to gain an overview of the city and it's history. The walk does include some steps and slight hills.
It costs little but the guide gets no money, they depend on tips. So take money for the guide.
The tour, which lasted a good two hours, was very interesting, very educational, and above all, very entertaining.
