Great hotel in the Netherlands for a family stay—we highly recommend it! This was our second time staying here (the first was back in May, and we returned in August), and we were thoroughly delighted once again. What we loved: Fantastic Swimming Pool: A huge hit for both adults and kids. It was wonderful to swim and relax poolside. Family-Friendly Amenities: There is a great children's area (Kinder Zone) and a nice small courtyard in front of the hotel where the kids could play. Food & Drinks: Delicious breakfast included. The hotel also features two bars—one inside and one outside—perfect for grabbing a refreshing drink. Comfortable Room: We really enjoyed our room; both we and the children felt right at home. Special Thanks to the Staff: We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the receptionist, Anna, who speaks both Russian and English! We ran into an issue where our reservation accidentally fell through, but Anna personally called us back and restored the booking. Thank you so much, Anna, for your kindness, helpfulness, and support! Sending you our warmest regards and best wishes. Minor Note: The only small downside is that the hotel is located a bit far from the city center (about a 30-minute walk). However, if you enjoy walking, it's not a problem at all. We will definitely be back! Warm regards, The Chursin Family

The hotel is "fine", a little run down, but overall not bad. They sell themselves as "green" because they don't clean your room everyday. I was annoyed that to get filtered water I had to go to the lobby from my floor, and on the second night I was refused seating at the restaurant because they were "out of food". I could not find walkable restaurants from this hotel, so not being able to be served at a hotel that advertises a restaurant was a major disappointment. I will not be staying here again.
I stayed at this hotel during a business trip and, unfortunately, my experience did not justify the price of approximately €300 per night. While the location was reasonably convenient, the overall quality and service fell well below what I would expect from a hotel in this price range. The room itself was acceptable, but the bathroom drains emitted a terrible odor throughout my stay. The bathtub was exceptionally high, making it difficult to get in and out, and it was extremely slippery, creating a safety hazard, particularly for older or shorter guests. The hotel promotes its environmental policy by eliminating daily housekeeping. While I fully support reducing unnecessary towel and linen changes, I did not expect there to be no room service at all—not even making the bed or tidying the room. At nearly €300 per night, this felt less like a genuine sustainability initiative and more like a cost-cutting measure. The breakfast buffet offered a wide selection, but many items did not appear fresh. The fruit, in particular, was old, soggy, and unappetizing. The greatest disappointment, however, was the customer service. When I politely raised these concerns at checkout and requested a partial refund, the receptionist responded dismissively and stated that nothing could be done. After returning home, I discovered that my credit card had been charged twice for my stay. Nearly three weeks later, despite contacting the hotel, the duplicate charge has still not been refunded. I have now had to initiate a dispute through my credit card company to recover my money. Hotels can make mistakes, but how they respond is what defines good customer service. Unfortunately, this hotel failed on both counts. For the price charged, I expected a much higher standard of cleanliness, maintenance, service, and professionalism. Based on my experience, I would not stay here again.
I needed to stay in Maastricht for one night and this hotel "did the job" but was not in walking distance to the center as I initially wanted. There is a bus taking you to the center, which is handy though. The room was clean and had all the towels and toiletries necessary; from this point of view, I am very satisfied. Why I am giving it a "red" review is because all over the hotel there were groups of men walking around or hanging in the corridor, speaking loudly on the phone in different languages, food smells coming out of rooms - probably cooking or heating up food in rooms, I was alone with 2 kids and we didn't feel great when waiting for the elevator 6 men were breathing in my neck. Also, the restaurant was definitely nothing special, but extremely expensive. We had to eat in, because of the late time and distance to the center, and I thought it would be a great idea, but the price was almost 100 euros for 1 adult with 2 kids, where the kids shared 1 pizza and one portion of wings. One point I also loved is that this is meant to be a family place, with a lot of board games and magazines to share in the lobby. The atmosphere would have been great if it wasn't for those groups (I assume refugees or some type of workers, maybe?)
If the Hitchhiker’s Guide to Maastricht Accommodation were ever written, the Novotel would likely receive a polite but firm “Mostly Harmless.” Set slightly off the beaten track—close enough to feel intentional, yet just far enough to be mildly inconvenient—it sits about ten minutes by car from the old town. In fair weather, a bike would do nicely. In less cooperative conditions (ours included), one is left to duel with overenthusiastic parking areas on the outskirts, quietly suspecting that walking might have been the more enlightened life choice. Arrival at 14:00 yielded the promise of a room at 15:00, which—like many promises—benefited from a gentle reinterpretation. We took the hint and explored the city instead. Upon return, post-dinner, the room was indeed ready: third floor, sofa bed deployed for the offspring, all in a colour palette best described as “committed to grey.” Functional, efficient, and about as memorable as a well-organised spreadsheet. To their credit, the staff were unfailingly friendly and accommodating, doing their utmost to inject warmth into an otherwise determinedly neutral experience. Breakfast followed suit: perfectly adequate, competently executed, and unlikely to feature in anyone’s memoirs. All in all, a hotel that performs its duties without protest, flair, or lasting impression. With parking and breakfast factored in, the price-performance ratio leans ever so slightly toward philosophical reflection. Doubt the 4* is reflective. Perhaps better suited as a summer family base—when pool and activities might distract from the aesthetic minimalism—than for a fleeting visit to a city that deserves a bit more charm than this.
