This hotel is a hidden gem, and especially the restaurant and the staff working there. Great atmosphere, very friendly personnel, and surprisingly good food. I didn't expect much from a hotel restaurant and I was very pleasantly surprised. Everything I ordered was really really good!
We ended up here for 2 nights when our planned accommodation double booked us. The hotel building is quite grand but a little dated. The extreme 39 deg heat was overwhelming the air con but we slept well thanks to cooling off in the pool before retiring. The location across the road from the station is central to the city and perfect for sight seeing. We didn't use the resteraunt at all so can't comment but we did use the car park which was extremely expensive. Staff were fine but too busy to be overly friendly.
The location is excellent; just outside the station and a nice walk to the centre, across the Wijk district. The hotel has this old charm, from when they didn’t squeeze people in tiny rooms like sardines. The room was spacious and comfortable. The dining area is large and the bar is cosy. We got a welcome drink each in our arrangement, and then again a drink each for deciding to keep it green and skip room cleaning. This was really nice, as you can get a generous glass of good wine or beer at the hotel bar for free. Negatives: The bathrooms could definitely use a remodeling. On a busy morning, the kitchen has difficulty keeping up with the breakfast buffet resupply. Overall, a very good stay.
The value for money is decent. Unfortunately the heating in our room was broken and only after complaining several times we were provided with an electrical heater. Parking garage is safe but very small, leave the big SUV at home ...
I stayed at this hotel for two nights in December. The hotel feels quite grand but is outdated and needs modernisation, in all of the lobby, breakfast area and rooms. But the location is great, right across from the train station and a short walk from sights in the centre. Where this hotel shines is in the restaurant for dinner. I had a 3- and 4-course meals with my hotel package and the food was well prepared and beautifully presented. Perhaps the best aspect was the service, which was prompt, smooth and very professional. I had three people serving my table and nothing fell through the cracks. Each person was warm and welcoming, even switching between languages with ease. The front desk staff were also helpful and professional. With some updating, this hotel could be a real gem.
