We docked at Luxor West Bank to see Karnak and Luxor Temple. We arrived late in the afternoon but the last temple was well lit. 2400 small ram headed sphinx’s lined the route joining the 2 temples. (You can only walk so far along the 3 mile or so pathway) Impressive statues and carvings everywhere. On our last day on the MS Salacia, we visited The East Bank with Memphis Tours. After an early breakfast on board, we said farewell to this wonderful cruise ship (oldy worldy with plenty of character) and set off to see the hot air balloons landing at the Colossi of Memnon. Super high temperatures already as we arrived at the Temple of Hatshepsut. Wow! Then onto the Valley of the Kings. Our tickets allowed access to 3 tombs. For an extra 700 EGP you could visit the tomb or Tutankhamun, only his mummy is there at the moment, all the gold coffins and masks are in the Museum in Cairo. (Being moved also to another Museum shortly) Memphis Tours arranged a hotel for our use in Luxor where we met their representative Ali who checked us in, arranged all our flight transfers etc. for our next stop - Cairo. Great service xx

Itinerary
At first glance, the Valley of the Kings, also known as the Valley of the Gates of the Kings, seems like no more than a sun-blasted gorge of generic red rock, but underneath all of its dust lay the tombs of 63 of the most important pharaohs in the history of Ancient Egypt. Used as a burial chamber for nearly 500 years from the 16th to 11th century BC, Discovered by Howards Carter in an excavation expedition in 1922, one of the most important tombs found in the Valley of the Kings is the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun and all of his treasures. The Valley of the Kings is located on the west bank of the Nile River near Luxor. It is the most famous site for having unique collections of tombs and breathtaking ancient ruins.
In terms of visual impact from afar, there is no rival to Hatshepsut’s Temples. The unique multi-tiered structure nestled up against the limestone cliffs at the shoulder of the river valley is a truly stunning sight. The uniqueness of its layout mirrors that of the pharaoh responsible for building it. Hatshepsut was the only female pharaoh in the history of Ancient Egypt. She came to power during the New Kingdom after the death of her father, Tuthmose I, and her half-brother and husband, Tuthmose II, who succeeded her father on the throne.
One of the biggest tourist attractions in Luxor, the Colossi of Memnon gained its popularity due to its majestic appearance and for the mysterious sounds emitted by the northern colossus statue at every sunrise. In the West Bank of Luxor Egypt, two magnificent twin statues image of pharaoh Amenhotep III and two smaller statues carved by his feet (one being his wife and the other his mother), stands graciously in the horizon of the magnificent Luxor horizons. The two statues, each measuring 60 feet tall, stands in the entrance of Amenhotep III’s mortuary temple. They are famously named by the name of Colossi of Memnon due to a phenomenon produced by one of the statues after an earthquake.
When visiting Karnak, you are paying a visit to the heart of Egypt during the New Kingdom. This huge temple complex was the center of the ancient faith while power was concentrated at Thebes (modern day Luxor) and its significance is reflected in its enormous size. In addition to its religious significance, it also served as a treasury, administrative center, and palace for the New Kingdom pharaohs. It is considered as the largest temple complex ever constructed anywhere in the world. It developed over a period of 1500 years, added to by generation after generation of pharaohs and resulting in a collection of temples, sanctuaries, pylons, and other decorations that is unparalleled throughout Egypt.
This temple might be the greatest testament to why Luxor has earned its nickname, “The World’s Largest Outdoor Museum”. Luxor Temple is located in the modern city of Luxor, which is built on the site of the ancient Egyptian capital of Thebes. The temple is one of the best-preserved of all of the ancient monuments with large amounts of structure, statuary and relief carvings still intact, making it one of the most impressive visits in the Luxor area and all of Egypt, adding significantly to its allure is the juxtaposition that its setting provides. The modern city begins on one side and the Nile drifts by on the other. There are few places in Egypt where one is put so immediately and clearly in touch with the extraordinary length of Egypt’s history.

This five-day four-night Dahabiya cruise from Memphis Tours from Luxor to Aswan was a perfect introduction to an amazing country. Memphis Tours arranged everything from picking us up at our hotel to dropping us off at the airport and even escorting us the to check in counter at the airport. Wow! what else can I say. Our personal tour guide Abanoub Nazmi was awesome! He was knowledgeable, punctual, funny, and made sure we had a wonderful time. Abanoub is extremely knowledgeable with the historical sites, the city and its culture and we always felt very safe around him because he knows so many people. I would highly recommend anyone traveling to Luxor/Aswan through Memphis tours and if you are blessed to have Abanoub as your tour guide you will defiantly not be disappointed. And to the staff of the Dahabiya Amoura thank you, the food your hospitality and safety was amazing. This was our trip to Egypt and would gladly recommend and use Memphis tours again. Book it! You will be very happy you did! PS.. We were there in the wintertime so please pack a heavy jacket because the nights do get cold.
We had a two day tour of Luxor with our tour guide Marwa Ali, she was amazing and so knowledgeable. We really enjoyed her company and learnt so much, the experience wouldn't have been the same without her. I cant recommend her highly enough. Our driver for the two days was Osha, he was fabulous and so kind and friendly. We want to say a huge thank you to both of them for making our stay so wonderful.
Went to Aswan, Luxor, Edfu, and Kom Ombo. Memphis organized the transfer between these cities to be seamless by booking a cruise. Had amazing tours in each city. Our tour guide, Abdalla, was incredibly special and contributed greatly to our enjoyment of the trip. Not only was he extremely knowledgeable and informative, but by the end of the trip, he felt like a part of the family. Would highly recommend him as a guide. This tour includes many temple visits, which is amazing, but the change of pace of visiting Elite Aromatherapy in Aswan as well as visiting the Nubian village was great. Traveling through these areas offers a pleasant reprieve from busy Cairo!
My guide Mansour was excellent and is a seasoned guide who spoke without notes. We enjoyed his sense of humor, punctuality and eagerness to assist. I highly recommend Mansour for this tour - 5-star Egyptologist guide.
I had a great experience in luxur, Hany Refaat was our tour guide, very focused in explaining every detail about all Egyptian times, about the temples and the Nile to Aswan, very talented with a lot knowledge, he give us time take photos I recommend him to anyone who goes to luxsur and Aswan. He take he’s job very serious
Hany was an incredibly knowledgeable guide with strategies to help us into the various sites efficiently. He knew when and where to give us information and knowledge, and then gave us time to explore on our own. I highly recommend Hany.
Had an absolutely stellar time. Our guide was the very knowledgeable and affable Hany Refaat, who is one of the best. Knows his way around and the sites of interest phenomenally well. Patient and answers all questions and indeed enriched us in knowledge, history and culture much more than the usual guided tours. Can recommend without reservation. One of our best vacations in a long time, great cruise on the Sonesta Sun Goddess. Great food , courteous and helpful staff on the boat. absolutely all was petfect. Couldnt wish for anything better
We joined Memphis Tours for our tour of Egypt. The tour of the East and West Bank of the Nile included the Karnak and Luxor temples, the Valley of the Kings, Queen Hatshepsut's funerary temple, and Memnon Colossi. We also joined Memphis Tours for our tour of Aswan, including Abu Simbel and the High Dam. The tour was great - comfortable and spacious aircon vehicles, safe drivers, bottled water, etc. And the second best part (the best is actually seeing all these ancient sites), was our Egyptologist - Hany. He has so much of information to share and he literally was a "CTRL+F" - you could ask him anything and he would pull it out of his memory database. We gained so much background knowledge, and could understand the history behind each ancient site because of him! His passion at being an Egyptologist shines through and you can tell that he really enjoys what he does! Highly recommended.
My husband and I were delighted to have Hamy as our tour guide. He is highly knowledgeable, we felt many times like we were back in University. Full of knowledge, very passionate about his subject matter, and able to read hieroglyphics!?! And write them?!?! Amazing experience, highly recommend this exceptional tour and especially this guide. Thanks again Hamy for taking care of us, and thanks so much for those extra touches.
Cairo and Luxor great place to visit,Aswan was okey. Tour was private, had opportunity to meet great people, both egypologis Ramy and Hany were great, very nolagibl and friendly. Overol life time experience
My wife and I took Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor organized by Memphis Tours. We had an excellent experience visiting all of the key sites including Philae, Kom Ombo, Edfu Temple, Valley of the Kings, Karnak and Luxor Temple among other amazing sites. We had an excellent guide, Hany Refaat, an Egyptologist who has an incredible amount of knowledge about the history of this region and the country as a whole. I strongly suggest getting a really good guide who can help provide context and background to everything you see. Hany added a lot of value to our visit. All in all, we would strongly recommend visiting "Upper" Egypt and were very happy we chose Memphis Tours to organize everything.
Our guide, Hany, was an exceptional expert on the tombs, their significance in the time of the Kings and the meanings of the scriptures/art work. Hany always shared “the most important” facts of where we were visiting! It was a memorable trip thanks to where we went and Hany’s interest in providing us w detailed information.
We enjoyed 10 days in Egypt highlighted by 7 in and around Luxor and Aswan. The organization provided by Memphis and Majestic World was on point with all details handled and a small group travelers well cared for and meeting all expectations. What I never anticipated was a guide as knowledgeable and passionate as Hany Refaat, Egyptologist who was out guide for 7 days. Hany is amazing, really over the top with enthusiasm and extreme detail regarding each and every site throughout upper Egypt including a cruise from Aswan to Luxor with points in between. Hany took the time on our cruise to expand on our tours and fill in the blanks for a few of us. If thinking about Touring Egypt and interested in the history and archeology of this area this an amazing choice and you will not be disappointed. Most importantly, insist on Hany!
Amazing trip great service lovely tour guys a trip to remember see you soon Egypt will miss your hospitality
We actually took a 2 day tour from the cruise ship docked in Safaga. Originally, we had tried to take the ship's 2-day tour but that was fully booked extremely quickly. I'm glad things worked out this way - it was so much better! Five stars is not enough! First of all, the cruise company changed the itinerary at very short notice, only notifying us once we were on board. Memphis tours were very helpful and managed to change all the dates for the tour as required with no fuss. Then on the day of the tour itself, we were delayed in getting off the ship by 3 hours due to local difficulties. I contacted our guide who waited patiently and greeted us as soon as we appeared. Our tour guide, Mr Mohamed Saad, was absolutely brilliant. His command of English was first-rate which certainly increased the value of the tour. So very knowledgeable and open to discussion and explanation. He consulted us as to what we wanted to concentrate on during the tour and arranged the itinerary accordingly. He arranged an extra hot-air balloon ride for us on the second morning which was wonderful. Unfortunately, my partner was not feeling well and we had to cut the tour short and return to the ship. All changes were made quickly and efficiently with no demur; he even had the hotel prepare a packed lunch in case we wanted it during the return journey. I would have no hesitation in recommending this company to others and will certainly use them again in the future.
When we arrived in Luxor, we wasn't very glad about the guides we met before. Then, Memphis Tours choose the guide Hany Refaat... what a gift!!! A hieroglyph expert, showed us every little thing inside and outside Dendera's, Abidos's, Karnak's and Luxor's Temples and Valley of the kings. It was a dream come true to learn so much in these three days. Besides, he gave us a huge lesson about the whole Egypt history till nowadays. Thank you very much Hany, it was a pleasure to meet you and learn so much. We are so gratefull!!!
We recently were in Sharm el Sheikh for a dive trip. We decided last minute to visit Luxor. A fantastic tour guide, Hany Taha put together a two day trip to Luxor for us. My husband and I were blown away at how professional the tour was, particularly last minute. We were picked up at 4 am, taken to the airport. Upon arrival in Luxor early morning, El Safy Hakim from Memphis greeted us in a very nice van. He took us to our beautiful 5 star hotel, St. George. We greeted our guide for the day, Shayma, a beautiful woman. She was very enthusiastic, knowledgeable, & gracious. The whole tour for two days was put on by MEMPHIS tours, west and east bank, LUXOR temple, KARNAK, valley of the kings, Queen Hatshepsut mortuary, fantastic Egyptian meal!, horse and buggy tour of spice area and evening light show at Karnak. We absolutely cannot thank Hany Taha, Shayma, Safy Hakim and all of MEMPHIS tours for a perfect two days. Going to Egypt? MEMPHIS tours - Marianne and Kim Huntley
Our experience was seamless. From transportation to tours, to meals, to covid testing. Mustafa was our tour manager and we kept in touch with us during our stay and made sure we had everything we needed. We loved having lunch with him! Our tour guide Ibrahim was very enthusiastic about the history of the temples and the valley of the kings. He did a great job explaining to us all of the history and stories behind what we were looking at. He was very knowledgeable and friendly.
I went on this awesome tour with El-Tayeb (also known as El T). He was friendly, funny and informative. I learned so much Egyptian history during my tour and saw so many beautiful sites. It was very relaxed tour where we took our time and spoke thoroughly about the history of each site. Highly recommend this tour!
We had the West and East bank tour with the most professional and knowledgeable tour guide Nabil. We actually chose Memphis Tours after our Cairo tours were a great success and didn’t regret. We were provided with a very punctual and attentive service (also fully COVID-19 restrictions compliant) and would like to say thank you to the team of tour guides, drivers and booking managers of Memphis Tours!
We went on this tour with Nabil Reda as our guide. He was FANTASTIC! Very informative, told us about the history and mythology of every site we visited. He even introduced us to one of the people on an active dig site at the Valley of the Kings. He was courteous, professional, and informative. He took us to a great restaurant for lunch. I can’t say enough about the perfect day Nabil gave us.
From when we arrived in Luxor until our departure from Aswan, our guide Wael spent 5 wonderful days with us on our Nile cruise onboard the MS Salacia. He never rushed us,let us take our time and went to great lengths to make the trip and easy as possible. Wael was helpful, knowledgable and extremely friendly. Thank you Wael for all your efforts
Our tour guide Nabil Reba was amazing we had such a great time seeing the Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple & valley of the kings amongst the other sites that he took us to. He explained very well & he knows his history. He is an amazing storyteller. He is very passionate about his job. Thank you Nabil!
We did a tour around Karnak and Luxor temple and The Valley of the Kings. We really enjoyed both days and our tour guide Nabil Reda was very knowledgeable and explained a lot to us, we highly recommend him.
Over all the experience of this trip, was PHENOMENAL! What made this trip complete, was our tour guide Nabil Reda! He was very informative and knowledgeable throughout the entire trip. He was able to provide thousands of years of history in such a relaxing manner. Nabil was definitely the best tour guide you could ask for. If you get a chance to request a private tour guide, Nabil is your guy!
We reserved a 5 day/4 night nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan on the Royal Lotus, through Memphis tours (Nabila). At first I was hesitant as we are Egyptians (living overseas) and felt the costs where high. Even though the costs where high for Egyptians, it was better than what was being offered by other companies to foreigners. Every request that was made to Nabila was followed up on and was exactly as what we requested. For perspective we had a total of 8 travelers 6 adults (one of which is handicapped and requires a mobility scooter), and 2 children. All transportation was clean and big enough to accommodate all of us while being comfortable. Our tour guide, Ahmed Amine, was what made my review go from 4 stars to 5 stars and just having him as our dedicated tour guide made the trip very enjoyable and better than expected. He is probably the best tour guide we have ever had, and this includes all the places I have visited across the world. The kids where actually very sad to say good by to him. He is very knowledge in Egyptology, recent world history and local customs (as they vary across Egypt and the Nile). Ahmed was very prompt, professional and had a great personality. His approach to teaching and guiding was top notch and not rushed. He encouraged questions and the kids felt very comfortable. Ahmed is very proficient in English and he did not have a hard time communicating in English (and all the English speakers on the trip understood him very clearly, with very little accent). We where even able to have a discussion about a conspiracy theory, that the pyramids had a more of a purpose, and he was not closed minded to the conversation as a whole. In summary the trip included the following: - Visit Nile East Bank (Karnak Temple & Luxor Temple). - Visit Nile West Bank which included Valley of the Kings and Temple of Queen Hatshepsut. - Visit Horus Temple in Edfu. - Visit the Temple shared by two gods Sobek & Haeroris in Kom Ombo. - Visit Abu Simble - Visit the Nubian Village, Philae Temple and Unfinished Obelisk. Hopefully you can book with Nabila and have Ahmed as your tour guide!!!
I thought long and hard whether I should give our trip 4 or 5 stars. The guides were definitely 5 stars. Particularly Nabil and both Mohamed Fathi’s. They were on time; they were friendly, and they were knowledgeable. They were truly concerned that we had a great experience and we did! Traffic in Cairo took some getting used to but everything else was fantastic! Egypt had been on my bucket list forever and it didn’t disappoint. Everything was bigger and better than I expected. All of our different guides did a great job of bringing everything to life. (Do the camel ride around the Great Pyramids, it’s a blast!) From this aspect I would definitively use Memphis again. The reason I considered giving the trip a 4 star was of an issue with our hotel room in Alexandria. We used Memphis’ wheelchair tour service and were counting on them to know the best accessible hotels. The hotels they arranged in Cairo and Luxor were excellent. The accessible rooms were good sized and well designed. Not so the hotel in Alexandria. The Sheraton Alexandria, a 14-floor hotel, had only one accessible room and it been taken when we got there, and the front desk staff could have cared less. The room they tried to put in was very, very small to the point of being unsafe for a person with mobility issues. Everything was so tight my wife couldn’t turn around without risking a fall. After a lot of work by our guide, they did upgrade us to a suite. It was safer but it still wasn’t accessible. (Shower totally unusable and no grab bars.) Even if the one room was available, Memphis should not be putting handicapped people in this hotel. The whole layout of the hotel is not handicapped friendly. Summary, great guides, beautiful country with friendly people, but Memphis did drop the ball on one hotel room.
We had a very knowledgeable tour guide Khaled M. He knew his stuff and shared many facts about the many Pharaoh's and dynasties. If you want to see Luxor and learn about the sites Khaled M. is the best. He made our experience come to Life!
My husband and I spent the day with Nabil Reda as he guided us through the East and West side of the river Nile in Luxor. While we spent 7 days in Egypt, the day with Nabil was by far our favorite. He was knowledgeable, trustworthy, and kind. He's the kind of guy I'd invite to my own home and hang out with him on a weekend. We went through 3 guides while we were in Egypt and none of them compared to Nabil. HIGHLY recommended!!!!
A magical cruise (3 April to 10 April 2025) We chose Memphis Tours to organize a cruise on the Nile. We spent 7 wonderful days. We were met late at night at the airport by the agency representative, Ibrahim, who drove us to MS Salacia. What a beautiful boat for this adventure, a lot of mahogany woodwork, a lot of copper, a real atmosphere of Agatha Christie ... The cabins (about thirty) are all very nice, they are large (24m2) with two bathrooms, two large windows and good bedding. Everything is very clean the boat is constantly polished. On the decks you can enjoy a swimming pool, very comfortable deck chairs, perfect for drinking a good Egyptian beer or mint tea while watching the Nile banks pass quietly. On this boat, we eat very well. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are hearty and tasty. The Chef and the entire restaurant team are at your service. The excursions are very well organized which allows to visit many sites while having the possibility to also enjoy the comfort of the boat. Finally a big thank you to Sabri, our guide who speaks excellent French and who led us through the temples and the Valley of the Kings, from Luxor to Aswan and even to Abu Simbel. Sabri has made us discover in detail, historical explanations and humor the lives of pharaohs, priests and goddesses. We had a great time with him. In the end, we really recommend Menphis Tours for such an Egyptian adventure. Everything was really perfect. Bruno and Brigitte
The explanation given by the guide yehia el Gizawy was excellent Made our trip a great experience and a great satisfaction
The whole trip was very complete and interesting. It is difficult to describe any preferred place. For archaeological tastes I would choose Luxor, because it was also a place where we did a little bit of everything: temples, western bank, kalesh ride, etc. Our guide Juan deserves 5 stars because from the beginning he knew how to adapt to our needs and times, given that we were traveling 2 complete families. And he always offered us places that deserved to be seen.
The tour is interesting and very enriching in every way, in guide, Yahya, was extremely clear and didactic in his explanations. In addition to the impressiveness of the place and its history the organization was perfect, as comfortable as relaxed. It is highly recommended and the guide adds a lot to the experience.
Sympathy, courtesy, kindness and helpfulness. the top of the organization. I just got back from Egypt for a wonderful Nile cruise. The Memphis guys were very professional and thoughtful. Starting from the transfer to the airport, the Hussein guide, the ship's staff and everyone else. Impeccable!
