Jacob was an excellent tour guide and helped create a magical day for me and my daughter (10 years). He is knowledgeable and engaging and knows how to pace things according to your group. Can’t recommend him enough. The Waldmans, October 2026

Itinerary
Your guide will greet you at your hotel or residence, before whisking you away to Mt. Pilatus.
In Lucerne, your guide will escort you to the Pilatus Bahn and begin your ascent to Mt. Pilatus. We'll make a little stop at Fraukmuntegg, where you will admire the beginning of the Swiss Alps and the cantons that formed the Swiss Confederation in 1291. Then, you will board the iconic “dragon ride” aerial cable car, where we will float in a giant glass cabin. The windowed walls provide 360 views of the Lucerne region, and many compare it to the experience of flying. Enjoy an ever-changing perspective of the Alpine landscape as historic Lucerne pulls back into focus as we approach the end of the line. The ride is a highlight of any trip to Mt. Pilatus.
Afterward, you can keep soaking up the stunning valley views from the restaurant or enjoy a leisurely hike to the summit of Mt. Pilatus. The top of this famous peak offers a bird’s eye view of historic Lucerne and panoramic vistas of the surrounding countryside. Enjoy the view platform's clean mountain air as you gaze out over an expanse of crystal-clear lakes, lush green meadows, and rolling peaks and valleys. Learn how Pilatus came to be haunted by legends of dragons and why many believe the body of Pontius Pilate was laid to rest within its foothills.
We begin our descent of the world's steepest cogwheel, which will head to Alpnachstad; take the cogwheel train, where the engine will climb the foothills of Pilatus, taking you to the end of the steepest rack railway in the world. Admire the views over the Alps from 2,073 meters high as your guide reveals each area's history, culture, and culinary delights.
Experience the Lake of Lucerne, also known as the lake of four cantons, and admire the Bürgenstock, Rigi Mountain, and Pilatus Mountain from afar cruising along the crystal clear lake. From May to October you will have the option to take the boat from Lucerne to Alpnachstad instead. We had such a great time visiting Mt. Pilatus and Lake Lucerne with Jacob! He was friendly, easygoing, and really knowledgeable, which made the whole day even more enjoyable. The views were absolutely beautiful, and Mt. Pilatus was definitely a highlight of our trip. Jacob shared some great stories and information along the way, but the tour never felt rushed or overly structured. He also made sure we had plenty of time to enjoy the views and take photos. We really enjoyed the experience and would definitely recommend this tour, especially if you get Jacob as your guide!
Jovanna was a treat! We had a group of 8 and she took care of us. We had a wonderful time and can't say enough. We started late, but was able to expertly coordinate all aspects of our day. The weather was wonderful.
Our guide Coco was AMAZING !! He was very knowledgeable and accommodating and friendly. We valued his approach and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour. We highly recommend this tour - wonderful combination of lake cruise, gondola ride, cogwheel train … and the spectacular views on Mount Pilatus!
Great tour for seeing the views of the city from the lake and mountain. Tour guide, Coco, was fantastic and expressed his passion and excitement for the tour.
Was foggy up at the top but our tour guide was great! Super personable and flexible based on the weather
Fabulous job, Coco! We had great day touring Lucerne. Would highly recommend.
Coco was a great guide, enjoyed the trip very much.
Coco, our guide was so good to be with. His English was not bad, and he was fun to be around. I was dreading the gondola but it ended up being something I am glad we did. The group size was wonderful, 8 of us & the time gone was great. We didn't feel rushed and really enjoyed it.
We booked at least a month in advance for the private Mt. Pilatus and Lake Lucerne Tour and this review is for the tour company and NOT a reflection on our wonderful guide Rafael! He was fantastic and worked very hard to resolve the issues that occurred that was out of his control and was a significant oversight for the company Tours of Switzerland. We took the public ferry from Luzern to the Mt. Pilatus station to take the tram up the mountain. When we arrived there around 12:20pm we should have boarded the 12:35pm tram however there seemed to be an issue with the tickets and Rafael was very professional and had us stay close by but didn’t involve us with the ticket issues he was trying to resolve. When we finally got our tickets and got through the line the ticket agent said our tickets were for 14:20. Rafael again talked to the ticket agent and the company to try to get in an earlier time slot but this time was earliest. This type of error should not have occurred when you pay a premium price. There was a cafe and toilets to use while we waited. This also forced us to cancel our dinner plans that our hotel arranged for us. Once we got on the tram (30 minutes up the mountain) we didn’t have the full 1 hour to explore because of our delay so we didn’t get to fully walk around as it was advertised. Since it was a Sunday it was more crowded then usual and we had to cut our time short at the top because the cogwheels to get down the mountain was closing soon and once it’s closed you’re stuck at the top. Once you take 1 cogwheel down you have to wait in line and take another cogwheel down the rest of the mountain. I reached out to the company to express my dissatisfaction and they took many days to respond back, once they did they offered me a discount on a future tour which was insufficient. I responded back to express my disappointment again and then a few days go by and they say there’s nothing they can do for their mistake. So I felt as if we paid a premium price to wait a lot. I would recommend doing this tour but with a different company.
Alejandro was an amazing guide—friendly, knowledgeable, and very attentive. He made our visit to Mt. Pilatus easy and unforgettable. The views were breathtaking and the entire experience was wonderful. Highly recommend Alejandro and this tour!
Had a problem with booking, operator unwilling to come to some kind of resolution. Do not recommend this ooerator
Lincoln was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. At lunch he invited my wife and I to join him and we exchanged life experiences. Amoung the best tour guides we've had over 50 tours over our travels.
Lincoln was amazing - super knowledgeable and extremely warm. The tour was well paced, we were able to cover all of the areas promised. Thanks Lincoln.
5/5. Selma was our guide, she was awesome!!
Lincoln was great! He was very kind and had great answers to every question.
It was lovely, our tour guide lincoln was very enthusiastic and informative about the beautiful sights we were seeing.
Lincoln was a great guide, very knowledgeable and kind! I would highly recommend.
Lincoln was fantastic! He ran a tour with many moving pieces perfectly. It is truly difficult to pick our favorite part as everything was great.
I would give a 0/5 if I could. Please note this is NOT a review of the tour guide (who was fine). This a review of the company. Before arriving in Lucerne we checked the weather on Mt. Pilatus. It was supposed to be mildly cold so we planned to wear long pants, long sleeves and sweatshirts. However, a few hours before the tour was to begin we checked the weather on the mountain again and discovered it was unexpectedly snowing. We did not hear from the tour company so we tried to reach out to them. Since the snow was not expected and we did not pack snow attire for June, we were hoping the tour would be canceled. We reached out to Viator and the tour company directly but did not get a response before the tour. We waited for the tour guide to show up. She arrived from Basal dressed in light pants/top and suede loafers with no socks. She had no idea it was snowing on the mountain until we showed her the live camera footage of the snow fall. Since none of us (including the tour guide) were dressed appropriately for the tour we asked if the tour could just be shortened to the boat ride and we asked for a credit for part of the tour to be used at a later time. We felt this was extremely fair since the tour was expensive and we were not asking for a monetary reimbursement. Nor were we upset that the tour guide or tour company did not reach out before the tour to let use know it was snowing. The company should have reached out and given us a choice whether or not to precede with the tour given the unexpected snow. My husband has written Viator and the tour company several times asking for the partial credit. The company repeatedly refuses to give us a credit and has stopped responding to my husband. This is an awful way to run a business. Shameful!
Excellent day, Mary was an excellent guide. She navigated all the transportation and gave tips on the best seats for views. Lake Lucerne was beautiful and the ride to/from Mt Pilatus are a great part of the experience. Views from the top were amazing. Beautiful day in beautiful Switzerland
This was a great day trip. Mary was a wonderful guide.
Lincoln was amazing and patient and knowledgeable.
Mary was so pleasant and knowledgeable. Had such a blast! The group I was with made it a great experience too! Throughly recommend :)
Our guide Mary was attentive and ensured we knew what was planned and we had time to view and take in the sights before moved in. Highly recommend her as a tour guide! Pat from Indiana
Mary was amazing!! I would love to have her for every trip and every tour! She was so informative, kind and helpful! She was the best!!
Beautiful lake cruise, with amazing cog train up to Pilatus Peak. Tram ride down. There is a city bus back to starting point (no a/c). Overall, a nice way to get a one day overview of the highlights of Lucerne. Well organized. The guide (Salma) was friendly and very social. When asked, she had very good information to share on various aspects of life in Switzerland. We didn’t get really any history, which would have been helpful, but enjoyed the trip nonetheless.
We did this trip with Salma as our guide and she was wonderful! She made sure we were comfortable and having fun! We were with a group of about 12 people and she did a great job making sure we knew what we were doing and where to be. We loved her! The trip itself started with a 2 hour boat ride around lake Lucerne and it was so beautiful and peaceful. We took the cogwheel train up to Mt Pliatus and enjoyed the views for about an hour. Then we took the gondola back down with beautiful views.
Great tour with Selma. Kept us on track but didn’t rush things.
Our small group tour was enjoyable because we had only us and our guide. She was very accommodating and flexible. Our guide also shared many interesting facts.
Mary was a wonderful guide. She was very friendly, knowledgable and took care of her group very well. We had a very enjoyable day on the lake Geneva, cruise and the Mount Pilatus Peak. Thank you Mary. Mark, and Denise Canada.🇨🇦
Fabulous experience exploring Lake Lucerne and Mt Pilatus. Amazing views and the small hikes at the top are a must do/see. Loved it all.
Great journey. The Golden Route was perfect! Lake Cruise, Cogwheel, Mt. Pilatus, Cable Car and the views. Spectacular!
Such a lovely time! Mary was great. I highly recommend.
I had an absolutely incredible experience on the Lake Lucerne & Mt. Pilatus tour on June 3rd 2026, and a significant part of what made it so meaningful was the guide, Mary! From the very beginning, Mary stood out for her genuine warmth, professionalism, and heartfelt kindness. She carried herself with a calm confidence and quiet dedication that immediately put everyone at ease. It was clear that she takes deep pride in her work, not just as a guide, but as someone who truly cares about the experience and well-being of every guest in her care. Throughout the tour, Mary demonstrated remarkable attentiveness and emotional intelligence. She consistently made sure that every individual felt seen, included, and comfortable, regardless of their background or pace. Her compassion was not only visible in her words, but in her actions, whether it was gently checking in on guests, offering support without being asked, or taking the time to ensure no one ever felt left behind or rushed. What truly sets Mary apart is her ability to balance group leadership with personal connection. She maintained a strong awareness of the group as a whole while still treating each guest with patience, respect, and sincere care. She answered every question thoughtfully and thoroughly, and her explanations reflected not only knowledge, but a genuine love and respect for the place and its history. Mary also brought a sense of calm and reassurance to the entire journey. Her presence made the experience feel safe, organized, and deeply enjoyable. You could feel that she was fully present in every moment, dedicated to making the day as smooth and memorable as possible for everyone. Beyond her professionalism, what will stay with me most is her kindness and humanity. She created an atmosphere that felt welcoming, warm, and sincerely cared for, turning a beautiful destination into a truly unforgettable and meaningful experience. I am deeply grateful for her guidance and the effort she put into every detail of the tour. Mary is an exceptional guide, and I would highly recommend any experience led by her. She brings not only knowledge and skill, but also heart, compassion, and a level of care that is rare and truly appreciated. Thank you to Mary, I will cherish my Switzerland trip and my time on Lake Lucerne & Mt. Pilatus!
My tour guide Lincoln from Brazil provided a 5 star tour! His tips were appreciated and the information he shared made the day memorable and fun! Despite poor visibility due to way out trip captured amazing clouds, snow and rainy photos of Lake Lucerne the surrounding mountains. The tour company failed to let me know that I was the only group making the Mt Rigi stop (which I had paid extra for), as a result I was informed that the advertised end of the trip on the Viator booking would be exceeded by 2 hrs and 30 minutes. As a result of other commitments, I was unable to make that stop and Tours of Switzerland would not reimburse me the difference between what I paid and the services and expectations that were given to me from Viator booking.
Had an excellent experience!! The weather was unfortunately rainy and cold, but our guide did a great talking about the history and culture of Lucerne and Mt. Pilatus. Highly recommend this tour!
The boat trip and journey to Mt. Pilatus were great. Mary did a wonderful and was very knowledgeable. She made everyone feel included and we all had fun. I strongly recommend this tour!!
Selma was great. She was funny and knowledgeable.
Lincoln was an phenomenal tour guide who made my trip very pleasant and memorable
The tour itself and especially tour guide Lincoln were excellent. Communication with Viator (family member handled was poor. Our tour time was changed by several hours causing a change in plans. But Lincoln was great!
Lincoln was a great guide!! We enjoyed the experience very much. Beautiful views and he provided lots of information about Switzerland.
We were lucky with both the weather and our tour guide—Mary was fantastic! I rated the value a 4 because of the expense, but everything in Switzerland is pricey. You could do everything we did without a guide for less, but you’d miss out on so much great information. Mary answered all our many questions and got us from point A to B to C with ease. On Mt. Pilatus, I had an unfortunate run-in with a heavy glass door and ended up with nasty gashes on both sides of my middle finger—ouch! Tip: don’t try to catch a closing door. Mary went above and beyond to take care of me, grabbing bandages and antiseptic spray and turning into my personal nurse. Loved the whole tour—thanks, Mary!
The tour was fantastic and our guide, Erika, was a dream. The day was cloudy, cold and raining but that didn’t dampen the experience. Be sure to do check directly with the touring company. Viator gave us the wrong meeting place.
Went on our honeymoon and would recommend the tour to anyone! Leighton was a great guide, and the views from the lake and Mt Pilatus were stunning
The trip was spectacular ! Leighton was amazing- he made it even so much better !! He delivered so much info in a great way!
Leighton was our tour guide for Lake Lucerne. He was an absolute delight! And a wealth of knowledge and made the experience both fun and fascinating. We learned so much and truly enjoyed every moment!”
Very pleasant and extremely knowledgeable tour guide. It was a great experience!!!! We would highly recommend Leighton. He is the best!!!!
This vendor is terrible. Did not do what he sold. Paid for 6 hours got 3 hours and refused to refund. It was $1200 tour. Viator was of no help. Not worth booking through their service.
We had a wonderful tour guide to Mt Pilatus with Lake Lucerne Cruise. The weather was perfect and Layton was very passionate and knew his history of the area. Lovely time we had with him as our tour guide.
