Itinerary
Your journey begins at the iconic Torbogen. This majestic arch is a historical gateway into the heart of Lucerne, a perfect place to introduce the city’s past and present. Here, you’ll meet your local guide for a brief introduction and overview of the tour.
From the viewing terrace near the KKL (Culture and Congress Centre Lucerne), enjoy stunning views of Lake Lucerne and the surrounding Alps. There your guide will share a short introduction to Lucerne’s history and highlight the modern architecture of the KKL as a symbol of the city’s cultural life today.
Step onto the Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke), the oldest surviving wooden covered bridge in Europe. Admire the painted panels under the roof depicting scenes from Lucerne’s history and mythology. Your guide will explain the bridge’s role and history.
Admire the striking facade of the Jesuit Church, the first large baroque-style church built in Switzerland north of the Alps. There your guide will share a story or two that shaped the city’s religious and cultural landscape.
Visit Lucerne’s second covered wooden bridge, often overlooked but full of character. As you walk across the Spreuer Bridge, you’ll notice a series of vivid 17th-century paintings overhead. Your guide will introduce you to the unique artwork and the unexpected theme behind these dramatic scenes.
Take a look at the well-preserved Musegg Wall, part of Lucerne’s original medieval fortifications. Several of its towers still stand proudly today, including the Zyt Tower (Clock Tower)—home to the city’s oldest clock, which still rings out before all the others.
Step into one of Lucerne’s most charming Old Town squares, surrounded by beautifully frescoed buildings and centuries of tradition. Once a bustling market and gathering place for local guilds, Weinmarkt offers a glimpse into Lucerne’s civic and commercial life in the Middle Ages. Your guide will point out architectural details and share how the space has evolved through the centuries.
Pause at the Lion Monument, a striking rock carving often described as one of the most moving sculptures in Europe. It honors the Swiss Guards who died during the French Revolution, and your guide will share the story behind this national symbol of bravery, loyalty, and sacrifice.
Your tour ends at the Church of St. Leodegar, one of Lucerne’s most significant religious landmarks. With its twin towers and historic interior, it offers a peaceful and meaningful conclusion to your walk through the city’s past.

When my wife and I arrive in a new (to us) city, we love having a private guide walk us through some of the main sites, provide some history and suggest places to go and eat that not every tourist will visit. Alexandra was a perfect fit for you. We covered some of the important landmarks but she also pointed out some hidden gems like the Sammlung Rosengart which has over 300 original pieces of Pablo Picasso and Paul Klee. A wonderful and warm history of how this artwork was donated primarily from a single family who had personal relationships with the artists. With outside temps at 95 degrees, this also made for a very pleasant escape from the heat. Alexandra. also recommended the Taube restaurant not far from the Chapel bridge. We heard from many in Lucerne, even the private chef from our cooking class, that this was one of the finest restaurants serving authentic Swiss cuisine. Even though the ambience is very casual, the food and service were top notch. Alexandra is passionate about guiding. She is actively developing ways for the tour to be more engaging with self discovery and creative ways to connect to the city. Do not hesitate to book a time with Alexandra. She will provide you with an amazing experience and introduction to Lucerne.
We had a wonderful guided tour of Lucerne’s Old Town with Alexandra. The tour was perfectly paced, taking us through beautiful historic streets and hidden corners to iconic landmarks that we would never have fully appreciated alone. Alexandra was friendly and happy to answer questions, making the experience enjoyable for everyone in the group. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city. Whether it’s your first time in Lucerne or you’ve been before, you’ll leave with a deeper appreciation of this beautiful, historic city.
Nice job! Enjoyed the tour. Alexandra speaks English well. Interesting tour, including history and art. Thank you. -Kim from Nashville
In just two hours, Alexandra packed in a varied and fascinating tour of Old Town without us ever feeling rushed. She presented lovely old bridges, venerable buildings of different ages and changing uses through the centuries, fun facts of Swiss history and current city life, and threw in myths and legends too. Something for every guest. She was very clear and answered our questions thoughtfully. One of my best ever guides and a colorful town.
Great tour to get familiar with Lucerne. Guide was nice, friendly, and very informative. Recommend this tour.
A real waste of money. Our guide had zero enthusiasm for the tour and didn’t talk for the second half of it at all. We walked in silence from stop to stop without any information about the beautiful city of Lucerne, its people, history of the city or information on its population. She didn’t mention the castle at all even as we walked by it. She didn’t let us walk over the covered bridge and we spent only a brief time there though that’s the highlight of the city. She had no information on the churches we went into and when I tried to elicit any background at all she really didn’t have any. For the price of $400 for two hours (she also ended early) she should have gone above and beyond to explain things.
This was a perfectly well spent two hours. Alexandra spent the time well including that it was leisurely. She pointed out the right amount of things to see with helpful history and understanding. Definitely book this tour when in Lucerne.
Very thorough tour of Old Town that included most key landmarks. This was the perfect introduction to our trip to Lucerne. I highly recommend.
This was awesome, my guide was knowledgeable and fun to talk to. I had an amazing time. She also showed me local places to eat.
It was great. The town is so beautiful, and hearing the history and all the little stories and local legends really bring it to life and give it a personality. I’m absolutely in love with Lucerne and definitely recommend this tour.
Wow! My friends and I had such a great time with Alexandra! She is extremly knowledgeable and showed us Luzern in the most fun way. Luzern is such a beautiful city and towards the end we were almost sad that the tour was already over. Alexandra answered all our questions and recommended us fun activities to do for the rest of our stay in Luzern. We would choose this tour again at any time!
This private walking tour with Alexandra was quite nice as she showed some deeper insights of old city which were much enjoyable. She was quite nice and humble hence I recommend to have this tour.
Alexandra was a great guide. She was very knowledgeable, easy going and an interesting person to talk with. We recommend her walking tour of this beautiful city!
We had such a great tour of Lucerne! Alexandra was super knowledgeable and shared interesting stories that brought the city to life. Also very accommodating for our two young kids. We saw all the must-visit spots and got a much better feel for what to do, where to go, and what’s worth seeing. Walking across the historic bridges and checking out the Jesuit Church and old market squares were definite highlights. If you’re heading to Lucerne, this tour is totally worth it.
We had such a fun time on our tour with Alexandra! We felt like we had seen everything in Lucerne from her. I would highly recommend taking this tour, especially if you're only in Lucerne for a short time.
Alexandra was an amazing tour guide - we learned lots about Lucerne and appreciated how clearly she explained everything! She was also very helpful with questions we had about other sites to visit.
We had an excellent tour led by Alexandra! It was a great way to see many of the highlights of Lucerne (Old Town, Chapel Bridge, Musegg, The Lion) and learn about their history.
I really enjoyed the tour with Allie. We did the tour on the first day of our arrival in Lucerne. We saw various historical sites and learned a lot about the history of Lucerne. It was very relaxed, and there was a lot of freedom. One did not feel as if everything was tightly scheduled and rushed. The duration was approximately 1 1/2 - 2 hours. I would recommend this tour to anyone who has never been to Lucerne.
