An amazing morning of food tasting!! We started with Lao coffee and a doughnut, and ended with freshly baked bread with condensed milk. The walk around the market opened our eyes to the wide array of different foods used in Lao traditional cooking. I have to praise our guide, Jungle Boy for his brilliant knowledge about not only the foods we tasted, but the history of Lao he shared with us. Brilliant guide, wonderful tasting experience everyone should try. Definitely recommend it.

Itinerary
Our morning feasting tour of 15+ tastings invites guests on a culinary experience around the historical city of Luang Prabang. It's a carefully curated food adventure, led by a team of professional Laos food guides. Before we get started, your tour reflects the local cuisine and the limitations of street food vendors means we unfortunately cannot cater for every dietary restriction. Here's an honest appraisal for the tour so no-one is disappointed: ✘ Unsuitable for vegetarian diets sorry, as there would be 3-4 less tastings. ✔ Pork is used in 2-3 tastings with limited alternatives available, though the guest won't go hungry if this is your only restriction. ✖️ Unsuitable for severe allergies & halal, due to risk of traces & cross-contamination. ✔ Suitable for mild gluten and lactose intolerances, but we advise against ✖️ celiac disease, as there are traces of gluten in 4-5 tastings, including unavoidable soy sauce. If you are feeling adventurous for a foodie journey, read on!
After the monk's alms-giving, mornings in Luang Prabang are a feast for the senses. The morning markets buzz with early risers, steam billows from bubbling pots, and the scent of grilled meats, herbs, and fresh noodles fills the air. This is when the city’s food scene is at its most authentic - unfiltered, local, and packed with flavour. Over 3-4 hours, we'll venture through 15+ tastings from street vendors, market stalls, and hidden gems. Just some of the highlights include hot Lao coffee, fried mungbean cakes, piquant jaew chilli dips, charcoal-grilled chicken, herby Laotian soups, spicy salads, and delicately steamed khao soy noodles, among many more surprises. Along the way, your host will dive into the stories, ingredients, and techniques that make Laotian cuisine truly one of a kind.
Skip the hotel breakfast and experience the city buzz only found in the daytime. There's an exclusive invite to one of the last remaining brick-oven bakers, at a traditional joint with wood-fired stoves and fresh baguettes. Come hungry. The tour ends close to the meeting point in central Luang Prabang. Enjoy local hospitality and meet new friends along the way, ending the tour armed with the knowledge you’ll need to continue eating local food across Laos and beyond.

My family and I (2 adults and 2 kids) had an amazing morning with "Jungle Boy" Toun. The places he took us to were all fantastic, I was a bit worried about the foods and if my kids would try them, but they did and they had a blast, and so did we. One of them said: "can we do this every day we are here". We had a great time, ຂອບໃຈຫຼາຍໆ Toun!
Morning food tour. Awesome way to see the morning goings on of Luang Prabang. Our guide - Jungle Boy (Toun) was a gem. Friendly, super informative, clearly genuinely loves his job and sharing is knowledge about the local food, culture and Laos in general. Can't wait to do the evening tour now.
A wonderful morning in Luang Prabang. We saw and tasted things we never would have experienced if on our own. A leisurely pace and super friendly and informative guide; Mone. Would highly recommend!
The pick up point was easy to find. There was a good variety of food and the pace of the tour was just right. Our guide Mone, did his best to explain the local food scene, introduced us to authentic Laotian places and organised the back to the hotel trip. Very satisfied with the tour length (around 4h) and its price. Will book again with the same provider (A Chef's Tour) in other SE Asia cities.
Amazing tour with Jungle Boy! Loved every stop and the tuk tuk rides in between. Highly recommend this tour.
Wonderful Prabang Plates food tour with delicious dishes and great variety. The experience was smooth, flavorful, and really showcased local cuisine. The guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole tour even better. Highly recommended.
This was a great tour and experience. Toun was super knowledgeable on food, cultureabd history. Each stop was delicious, and interspersed to learn what makes Laotian food different and special. I highly suggest this tour.
Toun was an excellent guide and took us to enjoy some very interesting and delicious local foods. It was a great way to learn about the different Laos cuisine!
We had a fantastic morning food tour with our guide, and it was one of the highlights of our time in Luang Prabang. He was incredibly kind, friendly and welcoming, and took us to some wonderful local places to try a great variety of Lao food. Every stop had something different, and everything was full of flavour. What made the tour especially enjoyable was the history and stories he shared along the way — it gave us a much deeper appreciation of the food, culture and people of Laos. He was always smiling, patient and happy to answer our questions, which made the whole morning feel relaxed and personal rather than just like a standard tour. We would highly recommend him to anyone wanting to experience authentic Lao food and learn more about Luang Prabang from someone who genuinely loves sharing his culture. A wonderful morning and a lovely person!
I took this tour with Nan as my guide and it was absolutely one of the major highlights of my trip. The stops were all unique and offered a great variety of foods that represent Laos cuisine and the history of food in Luang Prabang. Ranging from Breakfast to Lunch dishes and sweet to savoury snacks, this tour was a great range of sit down and market finds that I am already eager to return to the very next day! Nan was incredibly personable and tailored things to my interest/preferences along the way, and was very funny and knowledgeable when asked questions regarding the city and country. The value is well worth the cost and the tour length is great and well paced.
I loved it so much❣️ I liked my day it was really fun My favourite was the vietnamese inspired stop with rice rolls We really enjoyed the chilli tasting. The vegetable based chilli spice was our favourite
It was moderately easy to get to all the different locations, most within walking distance of the meeting spot. It is a good tour, and my kids loved it! We were there for roughly three hours, we decided to skip the last stop, only because it got too hot. My personal favourite was the Khazoy (noodle soup) and would definately recommened the tour. I would advise anyone who goes not to eat breakfast otherwise you are stuffed to your limit by the end of it.
Mone was the perfect host, He was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. He was happy to answer our many questions and helped us to learn a couple of Lao phrases. His English was superb. He was a genuinely nice chap.
Great tour! Not only was the food amazing (would not have found it on my own), but Mone was also a 10/10 guide. He is extremely friendly and welcoming, and also extremely knowledgeable. I was able to learn a great deal about Laos culture and really enjoyed my conversations with him. 100% recommend!
Booked this in air-bnb and what a treat. Did the 830-noon tour and had excellent dishes, culture lessons, history review and banter to make it unforgettable and five star. Mone is a sociable guide who knows how to deliver top notch, delicious Lao food and so much more for the hours we spent with him. Put it this way, we enjoyed him so much we’ve invited him to join us tonight on the river cruise along with his driver singing buddy Mr Song (not just a name; they serenaded us with car karaoke 😆)
Tour was amazing ! Had the opportunity to eat multiple local meals, as well as understand the local culture. I was alone this time, but not to be afraid as I had greay company. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone! Many thanks again for the tour :)
My guide , Toun (AKA Jungle Boy), was exceptional. Attentive to make the tour tasteful, full of knowledge and friendly. I learned about lao food, lao culture and way of life. Totally recommendable. Tips: - if taking the morning shift, skip breakfast completely - if taking the evening shift, skip lunch There is a lot of tasty food! Save yourself so you can taste all of it. You really don’t want to miss any of the dishes and snacks.
Well curated food tour that brings participants into hidden local spots, off the typical tourist track. Mone, the tour guide, was attentive and passionate in sharing about the local culture in Laos. Good relations have been built with local stall-owners, making access into the exclusive spaces a smooth one. I highly recommend this tour to get a taster of the local food and culture of LPB!
A great experience trying out all the traditional food with our guide Mone.
Our guide, Mone, was incredibly knowledgeable and kind. You could tell he truly cared about making our experience was great. The tour was extremely unique and we were able to try things we likely wouldn't have been able to find on our own which was not only fun but also both interesting and educational. The guide was also very accommodating to the dietary needs of one of us who is vegetarian. Overall I recommend this tour as a really fun way to experience Lao cuisine.
Absolutely loved this food tour in Luang Prabang! It felt much more than just “trying food” — it was a genuine local experience. We explored local breakfast spots, street snacks, traditional dishes, and hidden places I would never have found by myself. Every stop felt authentic and thoughtfully chosen.
A very good experience stay with jungle boy, all things considered for us, clean, transportations and other stuff. Thanks Toun!
Really good experience, plenty of food to try so go hungry and our guide Toun was very knowledgable and friendly. If you’re interested in local food I would recommend this tour.
friendly, enthusiastic, and full of positive energy. He really made the experience special. The small group made the tour very enjoyable, and the quality for the price was excellent. Every dish I tried was absolutely delicious. It was a great mix of discovering Lao food while also learning about the history of Luang Prabang.
Toun was a great guide on our morning tour of Luang Prabang's eateries and markets. A Chef's Tour started with bread and Lao coffee beside the Mekong River, before we proceeded to eat our way across Luang Prabang. Often with the help of tuk-tuks we tried chicken, coconut pancakes, sticky rice, noodles, dessert etc. My favourite was the khaozoy (noodle soup). We also explored the delights of the morning market. The knowledgeable Toun also explained about the history of Laos, the Golden Buddha. and the five rules to live your life by. We ended up having our own bread baked, the French way and having the pleasure of hearing Toun singing a duet with one of our number. All in all a fascinating and gentle tour. Highly recommended.
Was just myself and my friend on the morning tour. Toen our guide was absolutely lovely and accommodating. Good value for money. We enjoyed the food and felt very relaxed overall. The whole thing took around 4 hours or so but it all flew by quickly. It was a combination of walking and tuktuk. I also learned a lot about Toen’s life in the countryside and their difficulties as a community.
Loved this tour, would highly recommend it. Toun was a great guide and gave great insight into Laos food and culture. Thankyou very much
Good tour with a good guide. Lots of food, don’t eat breakfast prior!
This was an incredible tour! Our guide was super sweet and knowledgeable. He took us to many places we'd never have found on our own. We had so many delicious dishes, a couple of unique ones, and we learned so much about Luang Prabang and Laos. This a must-do!!!
We wanted an introduction to Lao food and Luang Prabang for our first full day, and this tour gave us that. Our guide, Mone, and trainee, Cam, were helpful in answering our questions along the way, making sure each spot was wiped down before we arrived, and introducing us to street food as well as dishes at local restaurants. All the food was good. We were given fair warning whenever something might be spicy (only the jeow, really, everything else you could add your own spice). I like that there was some walking for the first part, then we went by tuktuk to visit further spots as the morning got warmer.
This was an amazing experience for anyone wishing to learn more about the local food scene. Our guide Toun went above and beyond to give us the best overview of Lao cuisine and the most delicious dishes in town. I ended up with so many places and dishes on my list for the rest of my trip afterwards!
Our guide Toun took us through the day market and to other sites for a wide variety of delicious Lao dishes. He was very informative and we learned so much about Lao culture and food. Highly recommend!
Great morning tour with very tasty food options. Our guide was excellent. Only regret was not doing it the first day (and eating dinner the night before - lots and lots of tasty food)!
We had an amazing, fun and very tasty tour with our guide Som. We tried foods we would have never tasted on our own. Everything was delicious and we got a lot of background info from our very knowledgeable and friendly guide. Thanks so much!
This tour exceeded all of our expectations, and Latda was the heart of it. If you’re considering a tour in Laos, do not hesitate—having Latda as your guide will make your experience truly special and unforgettable. We are so grateful for her and will cherish these memories forever. We did both the morning and evening tours, both are incredible! The morning tour was our favorite!
Great introduction to Laotian food. Latda was an excellent guide, introducing my family to fantastic laotian food and where to find it. We did this tour shortly after arriving, and the exposure made the rest of our time in Luang Prabang more enjoyable, knowing better what we liked and where to get it. If you aren't already familiar with Laotian cuisine, I highly recommend adding this experience when you are in Luang Prabang.
Excellent food tour, we got to taste and experience so many different types of local food, visit a local bread factory and walk through the food market, learning so much from our amazing, high-energy, animated guide Latda! Thank you so much for the great experience.
Met Latda and Lay by the river at 8:30. Over the next 4 hours we tried countless different Lao foods, dishes. Every was explained in detail as we meandered around the markets, restaurants, and bakery. Can’t say what the highlight was, as everything was great. Maybe the old bakery. Also it was great to learn more about the history of Lao and how China is impacting Lao today. Highly recommend you skip breakfast on the day as you will really struggle to finish all the food.
Excellent tour! More food than I could eat! Definitely get your moneys worth. The market was my favorite as I would never have been able to taste and try these foods on my own. I did the morning tour
Latda was my guide and she had such a fun personality. Not only was she hilarious but knowledgeable. I learned more about Laos food and culture in 4 hours than I did in my 2 week stay. Pro tip; Try to do this tour when you first arrive!!
Myself and 2 friends did this tour whilst in Luang Prabang. We found the variety of food delicious and the Latda was informative and very pleasant company. I would recommend this tour for foodies in Luang Prabang.
We booked both the morning and night tour during our stay in Luang Prabang after experience the marvelous route from the Bangkok Yaowarat tour. Our guide, Mr Somsak was amazing. He was knowledgeable, patient, kind and outgoing. We had so much food that our tummies were filled and we thought about their stories in days to come. This tour is well crafted and executed. We especially enjoyed our morning meandering through the morning market, local eateries, taking tuk tuk to visit the only Khao Ji (Baguette) factory left in Luang Prabang and hunting down for the best Orlam. We will definitely book this tour again when we are in Luang Prabang next.
This tour was amazing with guide Somsak. I've been to Laos many times but this tour have showed me another side of Laos. My highlight was the baguette factory, the last baguette place in Luang Prabang. This tour is really worth to try
My Tour was amazing. Somsak was super knowledgeable and experienced. Not just the food but the history, storytelling and communication .. everything was beyond my expectations. And the taste ofcourse was mind blowing. Despite rain he went the extra mile to search for alternatives and pay for out food. Really loved his hospitality, passion and dedication to thrive for a great customer satisfaction. Somsak was just amazing and would definitely recommend this tour to my friends visiting soon
Toun is a sympathetic guide who will teach you a lot about Laos and its typical dishes/ingredients. Toun offers a fun food tour where you can taste a lot of dishes in a small group. You get your money's worth.
It was a great morning with Toon. Beautiful stories about Laos and the food, eaten on beautiful hidden gems in the city. Highly recommended if you are in Luang Prabang.
We were allowed to try a lot of delicious food from Laos, and at the same time we heard a little about the history behind some of the food. Our guide was very friendly and helpful
