What an amazing experience! I honestly lost count of how many spots we visited and delicious local dishes we tried. Toun, aka Jungle Boy, was a fantastic guide, funny, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about sharing his culture. The tour was full of surprises, including a special blessing by a monk! It felt more like exploring with a local friend than being on a tour. Highly recommended!

Itinerary
Our evening feasting tour of 15+ tastings invites guests on a culinary experience around the historical city of Luang Prabang. It's a carefully curated food adventure, led by our team of professional Laos food guides. Before we get started, our tour reflects the local cuisine, & the limitations of street food vendors means we unfortunately cannot cater for every dietary restriction. Here's an honest appraisal for the tour, so no-one is disappointed: ✘ Unsuitable for vegetarian diets sorry, as there would be 4-5 less tastings. ✓ Suitable for mild gluten & lactose intolerances, but we advise against ✖️ celiac disease, as there are traces of gluten in 3-4 tastings with unavoidable soy sauce. ✔ Pork & beef is used at a couple of places where there's no alternatives, though the guest won't go hungry if either meat is their only restriction. ✖️ Unsuitable for severe allergies & halal, due to risk of traces & cross-contamination. If you are feeling adventurous for a foodie journey, read on!
Meet our food-obsessed host, as we crunch into riverweed crackers and hmong mushroom dip, before an saffron orange-robed monk invites us for an open floor chat to discover about their unique lifestyle in Luang Prabang. After a short blessing, we'll hop foot to the Mekong, as sun sets over the riverside eateries, with plates of pun pa grilled fish served with a bundle of fresh herbs and vegetables.
As night falls over Luang Prabang, the true flavours of the city come alive. The air fills with the scent of sizzling charcoal-grilled meats and piquant papaya salads. Go it alone though and you'll merely scratch the surface of Laotian cuisine. On our nightly moveable feast, a local food guide will take you far beyond the tourist menus. We’ll graze our way by foot through family owned joints, local favourites, and back-alley markets. Expect 15+ tastings - from steamed catfish in banana leaf, to herb-packed Lao sausage, beef platter and a cold beer Laos, and charcoal-fired khao piak sen noodles in pork broth, among many more surprises. It’s everything you need to get a real taste of Laos. This is the side of Luang Prabang that restaurants won’t show you. Come hungry.
A short tuk-tuk ride takes us a 60 year-old dessert shop, whose recipes are a closely guarded family secret, passed over generations. The tour ends close to the meeting point in central Luang Prabang. Enjoy local hospitality and meet new friends along the way, ,ending the tour armed with the knowledge you’ll need to continue eating local food across Laos and beyond.

We had a fantastic night with Nan. Starting with the most special blessing in the temple .. our night was filled with fantastic food we would never have found on our own … and there was sooo much of it! Nan was very generous also in sharing his love of Luang Prabang and giving us a great insight into life in Laos. Thank you for such a special night!
Absolutely loved this tour! The guide was fantastic and shared so much fascinating information about the local culture. The food was delicious, and the riverside dining spot was simply breathtaking, especially with the stunning sunset painting the horizon. Such a wonderful experience from start to finish! Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area — definitely an experience worth having!
Toun aka “Jungle Boy” was a delightful food guide. His passion for the food, culture and history of Laos is infectious. So much in common and great conversations with other “A Chef’s Tour” guests too. A night out in Luang Prabang we’ll remember fondly.
A fantastic experience! Toun was the perfect guide - knowledgeable and super friendly. The food was definitely 5 star! I highly recommend the food tour 😀
We just finished an excellent food tour with our amazing guide Jungle Boy! With it being our first time in Laos, we came with not a lot of knowledge of Laos cuisine but at the end we were full of both delicious food (11 stops!) and many facts about Laotian culture. The tour also included a stop at a temple which was an unexpected but nice addition to really immerse ourselves into local life. The spicy soup noodles and grilled sausage were my personal favourites. Would highly recommend this tour for any food lovers, thanks again to Jungle Boy for making this such a memorable experience!
Excellent introduction to Laotian food with guide Mr Nan from A Chef's Tour. So much great food including lots of things and places we would never have tried on our own.
What a great night out. Food was great and plenty of it. Got to try lots of Laos food at little local restuarants and food stalls. Places I would never go to. Toun was our guide and went out of his way to make sure we all enjoyed the night. Also offered to help any of us out with getting to train station etc. Nothing was too much trouble. Thanks Toun for making it a memorable experience.🙂
We had a really good time and delicious Laos Food. I dont eat fish and they served me a diffrent dish, this was amazing. Our Guide Toun was friendly and gave us interesting information about the food and the culture here.
Toun was awesome and we had fantastic night. Tried lots of new yummy food we previously passed by but never dared tried.
Great way to taste a wide variety of local foods - generous servings, very delicious. Very enjoyable experience.
I had an informative and fun evening trying a wide range of Lao food. Toun was knowledgeable and caring and catered to everyone's needs. It was a fun way to spend an evening.
My third Chef’s Tour and all three have been incredible. I love learning about the local cuisine and our guide, Toun, was a wealth of knowledge. Luang Prabang is a small city, and I now have several incredible places to go back to eat at.
One of the best things I did in Luang Prabang. This was so much more than a food tour. My guide was incredibly knowledgeable, not just about the dishes we were eating, but where the ingredients came from, how they were prepared, and the culture and everyday life surrounding food in Laos. His English was excellent and he took the time to thoroughly explain everything and answer all my questions. Over four hours we had around 15 different tastings in a wonderful variety of places and atmospheres, including little local spots I would never have discovered or had the confidence to order from on my own. It felt like being shown where people actually eat rather than simply being taken to places aimed at tourists. I also loved knowing that the tour was supporting small local businesses along the way. The amount and variety of food made it incredible value for money. My guide even helped me with questions I had about the rest of my travels in Laos, which was very generous of him. I'm so glad I booked this. I came away full, happy, and understanding considerably more about Lao food and culture than I did four hours earlier. Thoroughly recommend it.
This food tour was absolutely amazing! I expected the food to be good because I booked the Chef's Food Tour, but the variety and flavours were exceptional. Moni knows exactly where to go in the city to get the very best of Lao food. I highly recommend this tour and it's also great value for money. I couldn't even finish all the food, the portions are very generous! So come hungry and expect to be very satisfied at the end.
Toun was great. It ended up being a solo tour and we had a lot of great food and he was very knowledgeable.
Our guide MJ or otherwise Money was a very nice and helpful guy! We had enough time to taste all the different meals! Everything is on walking distance and for the last meal you go by TukTuk! Unfortunately it started raining during our tour, after we visited the local temple, however MJ arranged a TukTuk who brought us to all the different restaurants! Overall a very nice experience to enjoy the local food and hospitality of the Lao people!
It was a very nice experiance. The places we went to try food were local and the food itself was tasty. We enjoyed the visit at the temple and talk with the monk very much. Our guide was very friendly and told us a lot about the culture. We had a good time!
Our guide Toun was amazing. He was very informative, patient and made our tour very enjoyable. We had a great time with lots of unique and delicious food, and very generous servings. We highly recommend this tour and Toun in particular!
We had a great time with our guide „Money“. He explained a lot about Lao, the culture and the food. The time in the temple with the monk was interesting as well. The food was great and we enjoyed it. Thanks for this lovely evening!!!
Wow! I cannot recommend this tour enough! Our guide, Sack, was so knowledgeable and told us so much about the history (and present) of Laos, and even shared his own personal stories of being a novice monk! The food was INCREDIBLE and the locations we were brought to were all really cool. Probably the most generous food tour I’ve been on (and I’ve been on many)! Full-sized portions at each place, and all delicious! It’s a long tour and definitely worth it! Thank you to Sack for the amazing tour!
We had a great time on this tour with Tune. He was very friendly and we loved the food we tried.
This was a great tour. Not only did we learn about food & got to try so many different varied foods, but out guide. Somsack was a delight. He gave us a lot of information about the culture, which we found very helpful. I really liked the I formTion about the lives of the monks. After visiting so many temples, it was great to have some first hand information about it. We got to meet a monk & get a blessing, which I found very moving. The guide told us about what was going to happen & if someone was not comfortable, no one felt obliged. (My husband didn’t & all was good) The most important part: the food we tasted was great. We were so full by the end that we couldn’t have another bite.

We had a wonderful food tour with Sack in Luang Prabang, evening tour. We tried a lot of new dishes and he gave excellent information and very interesting. You visit local restaurants and food stalls. The visit to the temple was a really nice addition. I recommend it 100%.
Toun was an excellent guide who delivered a great experience from start to finish. It wasn't just a tasting experience - it was a feast of TEN dishes, and all of them were delicious. We were especially happy that Toun brought us to places that we never would've thought to try and showed us how to eat some of the dishes that we otherwise wouldn't have known how to appreciate. The tour also included an insight into the history and culture of Laos, and Toun went the extra mile throughout to answer all of our questions (and our group had a lot of them!) To cap it all off, Toun also made sure that our Tuk Tuk dropped us off at our hotel, even though we were supposed to be dropped off at a central location, as per our original booking. Highly recommended!
Toun was a fantastic guide and we got to try some amazing food! A special mention to the grilled fish, sugarcane juice and the dessert! Definitely come hungry as you will get to try many different foods! We also got to learn about the history of Laos which was interesting!
Mone is an awesome host of incredible local Lao cultural dishes. He is raised in small village with family and Lao culture in his heart! He is Very smart. Funny and with excellent English and we learned so much.
I had a fantastic experience on this food tour in Luang Prabang with Mone as my guide. I expected to try a few local dishes and walk around town, but it turned into much more than that. Over roughly four hours, we visited multiple places and tried an incredible variety of foods, many of which I would have never ordered on my own. Everything from traditional dishes to desserts and drinks gave me a much broader understanding of Lao food and daily life. What stood out most was how relaxed and personal the experience felt. Conversations came naturally, there was no pressure, and I never felt rushed. Mone shared local knowledge and helped make the experience feel genuine rather than scripted. The portions were generous, much more than I expected, so definitely come hungry. I left feeling like I had eaten several full meals. If you're visiting Luang Prabang and want to experience local food beyond what you’d pick for yourself, I highly recommend this tour. It ended up being one of the highlights of my time here.
What a great food tour! Jungle Boy took us to to so many great places to try truly the best versions of Luang Prabang foods. Come starving because you will be full of the best the city has to offer. And we were treated to a special invitation into a temple to receive a blessing from a young monk, who was gracious to answer our questions. A taste for the mind as well as the belly! Highly recommended!
Great tastings, well-organized! Such a variety of food and we were stuffed by the end. Our guide was very helpful and informative. Highly recommend
Great food, Thoun was a very good tour guide, and the other travelers made it a very enjoyable evening
This was a wonderful tour. I really enjoyed the opportunity to share a little bit of the culture and taste many delicious foodss. Toun was a great Tour Guide. He taught us about the culture and the food. The only downside, if you can call it that, was it was too muchfood.
Toun aka The Jungle Boy is the best tour guide I have ever had. He was so knowledgeable and taught us a lot about Laotian culture, customs, and language. He’s very personable and took us to some amazing food spots I would have never stopped at on my own. He added a personal touch at every shop and even sang a song for us (he’s an incredible single. Don’t hesitate to book this tour!
Awesome tour with Toun touring around this beautiful part of Luang Prabang eating the most delicious Lao food while watching the sunset over the Mekong. Toun was a gentleman and such a kind hearted and informative guide, truly passionate about being a guide he offers a really good insight into Lao culture through sharing his own experience while he guides you to all these awesome and unique Lao restaraunts. Make sure you skip lunch as theres alot of beautiful food 🙏
Make sure you're hungry before the tour! So much food and such a variety, great way to experience local dishes
5* I can't rate this tour high enough. I was the only one booked on this tour so it tuned out to be a private tour. I couldn't ask for a better guide than Toun/Jungle Boy who was knowledgable, informative, kind and overall an amazing guide. He showed me how to eat the Food the Lao way, explained the Lao culture and obviously has a deep love for his country and sharing it with tourists. You have to do this tour when you are in Luang Prabang. Piece of Advice. Come hungry because there is lots of delicious food to eat.
Toun is an amazing guide and frankly you should be happy to have him as a guide in Laos no matter what or where you are going! This food tour was one of the best tours I have done in my 8 years living in SE Asia, and I already eat as a local. You really get to try absolute everything worth trying in a small window of time and the only challenge you will have is to fit it all. Every single dish is high quality and enjoyable. If I would recommend one thing to do in Luang Prabang this is the one, the waterfall that everyone fixates about comes only 2nd place. Thanks again Toun and wish you the best with everything!
Overall, it was decent. The guide, Moni, was friendly and made an effort to keep everyone comfortable. We began with a temple visit, which was a nice touch, but I did expect the food stops to be a bit more curated. There was plenty of food - no complaints on quantity! but the experience felt somewhat unstructured. It came across more like a series of random stops rather than a thoughtfully planned progression (for example, moving from lighter bites to mains, etc.). A more cohesive flow and slightly better selection of places would have made this a much stronger experience.
Make sure you go hungry! Lots of different dishes and tastes to try. The guide is friendly, kind, and funny.
Extremely worthwhile and fun tour to do in Luang Prabang, highly recommend doing this at the start of your time to get an idea of all the amazing foods to try during your time. Toun makes the tour amazing and ensures you're extremely well fed, keeps you hydrated, and if you're lucky enough will sing you a few songs too! Make sure you skip lunch to make the most of this one. Don't miss this tour during your time in Luang Prabang.
Mine was and incredible, kind and gracious host. Though I was the only one who participated, he made me feel like an honored guest. There are not enough kinds words to express. Anyone would be honored to have him for a guide.
Excellent food and guide with Toon. Definitely worth doing when you’re there. I especially enjoyed the authentic local places that were part of the tour.
A lovely way to experience Laos cuisine. I particularly liked going to some of the oldest places that have served food here for 40-60 years. A great variety and so generous with the portions. Having the blessing with the Monk added something unique to this food tour. Our guide Toun was a gentle soul with a fun side 🙏🇱🇦
A delicious experience! I had a great time eating my way around Luang Prabang. Be sure to start the tour hungry because the portions were very generous at each stop. What I loved the most is being able to try dishes that I would not have otherwise tried and specialty items from restaurants that I would not known to try.
Well organised food tour with many local delicacies that would be hard to discover otherwise. The tour offers more than food and also give some insight in local traditions and beliefs. Toun was a dedicated and knowledgeable guide.
I totally enjoyed the food tour! Our guide Toun brought us to several well chosen places where we tasted lots of delicious local food. He was very friendly and communicative. Thanks for the great experience!
Toun took great care of our group throughout the tour. He made sure we always had plenty of food and that the experience lived up to our expectations. The second stop at a temple was especially interesting, as it helped us better understand Lao culture. It was a really nice addition to the tour and made the whole experience even more memorable. ຂອບໃຈຫຼາຍ
One of the best food tours I’ve ever taken! Toun gave us a history of Laos, took us to a Buddhist temple where we received a blessing bracelet, provided entertainment and took us to some incredible restaurants and food stalls with some of the best food I’ve ever had. A truly fantastic tour and night. Thank you Toun!
Toun and Mone were excellent guides - very informative and gave us authentic food experience including restaurants, small businesses and markets.
