The show was phenomenal. I highly recommend seeing it while you are visiting Luang Prabang. I also like the option of a pick up and drop off from my hotel which is situated at the historic town and a little bit far from the theater. The company contacted me right away about the time they will pick me up. Everything was so smooth.

From the beautiful welcoming ceremony to the first row seats, complimentary water and a fantastic show it was a wonderful experience. With written story line commentary. It was a wonderful experience and highly recommended .
The biggest issue is that this show is improperly marketed. Had this been marketed as a high school play, and be more appropriately priced instead of $37, we would have gone in with different expectations. The entire show is basically interpretive dancing. They have plenty of beautiful costumes and the entire cast is like 40 people. All music is playback, there is no live music. We never felt drawn to leave, but you should be very aware that this is at a high school level. Its a good high school level, but still. (There were subtitles occasionally explaining what is going on, but it was on screens that were far off to the side with text moving incredibly slowly, so you couldn't watch the performance and read the text at the same time. The text also often just abruptly cut itself off so after I while I stopped reading it.) We also had the displeasure of experiencing the performance with a group of Chinese tourists. One guy behind us was literally speaking on his phone. One lady in front of us stood up several times and walked around in the rows to get a better angle to film the show on her phone. Someone else was scrolling social media and occasionally playing loud music on a video clip. The behavior of Chinese tourists is not the fault of the performers, but it was a significant contributor to the overall experience.
Loved the welcome into the theatre and the costumes were beautiful. Clever use of animated backdrops, projections on scrims and live performance. Loved the rain curtain too. Great storytelling. And then they say goodbye so beautifully. So glad I went.
This is an absolute must for both a cultural and performance arts experience. The whole cast was fantastic and the show was phenomenal. The unique after show experience was also unique and very interactive and memorable. Would highly recommended this to anyone in Luang Prabang.
Absolutely brilliant. Enjoyed every minute of it. Such a colourful and beautiful show and a definite must see in Luang Prabang. Don't try and keep up with the subtitles, just enjoy what's on front of you. Fabulous!
Great efforts and young energy. They put on a good performance. Deserves more audience. Go support the young performers.
Absolutely worth it. Really great show, explaining Buddha’s teachings. Costumes were really nice. 100% recommand.
The story line was very good . They have good story line
The Buddhist Light Show is an experience that should not be missed. They warmly welcome you into the theater for a spectacular show consisting of several acts. The large cast and beautiful costumes enhanced the experience. It is the perfect after-dinner show to top off a wonderful trip to Laos.
Fabulous show, well worth seeing. I booked on the afternoon of the show with no problem at all. Unfortunately it wasn't crowded which is a real shame, not that I want it to be crowded but it would be good for the performers as they deserve to be watched. The light show is awesome, the dancing and the costumes WOW. I paid for a VIP ticket which gave me 2nd row right in the middle, the seats are arranged so that you have no-one directly in front blocking your view. It's too far to walk from the centre of town so you need to get a tuk tuk of taxi and some of them have no idea where the International Opera House so be prepared with directions. My only complaint, and it's not really a complaint, is that the English descriptions/translations were at each side of the stage and it was hard to read and watch the show at the same time. I recommend this show to anyone visiting Luang Prabang.
The Buddhist light display was fantastic, creating a warm atmosphere. We loved the traditional Laotian dance. The performers had intricate movements and vibrant costumes. The music paired perfectly with the lights, enhancing the whole vibe. It was an unforgettable evening, showcasing the beauty and depth of Lao culture.
I was honestly pretty disappointed by the **Buddha's Lights Stage Show** in Luang Prabang. I was expecting something that would offer a meaningful or artistic insight into local culture, but the overall artistic value felt quite low. The choreography and storytelling came across as overly simplistic and repetitive, and the show relied heavily on lighting effects rather than substance. On top of that, the subtitle screens were placed on the sides of the stage instead of above or below it, which meant constantly having to look away from the performance — a major distraction that made it hard to stay engaged. Overall, it felt far more like a tourist-oriented production than a genuine cultural performance and didn’t really live up to expectations.
I booked the show last minute on a solo trip and I was delighted they arranged tuktuk pick up and they were very communicative ahead of time. There was no issue. The tuktuk waited for me during the performance as well and all of the dancers radiated such a positive cheery light, tying in their devotion to Buddhism through all the dance numbers! The lighting effects + the costumes were very gorgeous! Great Job! Made me smile & gave me joy. They also give an opportunity for you to take immersive pictures with them!
Amazing show, can’t believe that the venue wasn’t packed. The costumes, dancing, lighting , special effects and music were just excellent. There are subtitles to explain the narrative. Thoroughly enjoyed the show.
Excellent production both visually, technically and choreography.
Excellent experience. Vibrant light and music show depicting the life of the Buddha. There is an opportunity for pictures with the performers at the end.
My daughter (2 years old) loved it. Nice to see a local show. You should book a tuk tuk to go and come back as it is a bit far away from the center and everybody leaves as soon as the show is over.
Beautiful show. Great dancing and singing. It's the story of Buddha. Costumes and scenery are first class The opera house is quite new. It's a 20 minute taxi ride from town
A truly wonderful experience. A magnificent show in a superb setting. Some of the music is performed live. The dancers, although young, are very talented. We highly recommend it.
Loved it! The projections, lighting and animations were excellent, great staging and costumes, excellent live music with lovely performances from talented young performers. An excellent way to engage with and support Lao culture with the Buddhist theme. The participatory dance outside at the end around the fire was a great touch. The booking process was seamless, and communications with the ticket holder were professional, efficient and friendly. Highly recommended.
Another amazing dance this time in Luang Probing, Laos. From the moment you arrive the girls are outside to welcome and Kow tow making you feel so special. Like royalty climbing the stairs with them all lined up outside. The story telling and variety of performances was interesting and performed with such skill. We were waiting around outside and met some of the young dancers who were delighted with our response. The only issue is trying to find the show, if you go by tuk tuk they have to go over the furthest bridge and they are not always sure where to go. The theatre is outside of the town.
1. The auditorium is average 2. The story kind of tries combining buddha and lical cture but coherence is missing it feels like 7 -8 acts stictched together ..not following common theme 3. The complexity level is low .. it feels like kids annual function 4. The performers are mostly teen agers .. they lack intricacies and experience 5. Not worth of 37usd, max it should be 12usd.. given the kind of shows you can watch at 37usd around the world
Really beautiful theatrical performance. Talented dancers and gorgeous costumes and sets. This was much better than I had expected and the theatre itself is very grand. A pleasant surprise and enjoyable way to spend an evening.
The best thing in Laos. This show is amazing, the people in it are great performers. And the production is really incredible. The way they present the story of Buddha is very inspiring. It’s really the best thing I saw in all my time in Laos. I recommend it a 100%. The seats are super comfortable as well.
Come to Luang Prabang, the "Buddhist city" and see ancient temples during the day. At night you might want to step into a stage about faith and culture. Buddha’s Light is a cultural performance created by Luang Prabang International Theatre, which combines dance, music, drama, lighting and projection inspired by Buddhist classics, Lao folklore and traditional culture. 🌿 From Lotus to Buddha Light, tell the story of an awakening journey The stage begins with the story of all things heaven and earth: The lotus flowers faded, the divine tree appeared and Buddha came down to earth. Through dance and light, the actors present compassion, cause and effect, reincarnation and enlightenment in Buddhism. Even if you don't know Buddhism, you can feel its expression of kindness, hope and inner peace. ✨ A few moments worth watching Gorgeous traditional costumes, young actors' dances and changing lighting scenes give ancient cultures the vitality of a modern stage. The show begins with a traditional welcome dance and blessing ceremony; at the end, the actors see off the audience to make the evening more of a complete cultural experience. 🎭 Real feeling It's not a big Broadway musical, it's more of a Lao cultural showcase. The plot is uncomplicated and focuses on vision, music, dance and the transmission of Buddhist spirituality. If you like history, humanities and traditional art, this is a very special Luang Prabang night memory. 📍Luang Prabang International Theatre ⏰ It is recommended to arrive 30 minutes early for the welcome dance ðŸ A little further from the centre of the old city, it is recommended to take a breakout car 🎟️ VIP area with better view, ordinary tickets can also feel the complete atmosphere
Beautiful paintings to see, many dancers, and just for the work put in by the young people, to encourage them, you have to go. A cultural approach to Buddhism and Laos, magnificent costumes, beautiful performance by the young people.
Before we went to the Opera House, we were welcomed by the beautifully dressed dancers. After the dance, a green branch was dipped in a water bowl and our hand was wetted with it. We were enchanted by the varied and very beautiful dances with a very beautiful splendor of colours and beautiful music accompaniment. Picking up from the hotel and returning to the hotel in a tuk-tuk worked flawlessly.
Frankly, it was magical! I strongly advise, it is a very nice experience to live! Dancers, costumes and history are great. The experience is well worth the price.
A wonderful show! We were delighted by the performance. It was magical. Costumes, dances, directing. It is a sight to see absolutely!
